  1. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Not sure about MPG question but could be due to winter temperatures but for the wet windscreen and poor heating check the cabin pollen filter. This item tends to get overlooked becomes completely choked then affects air flow which in turn reduce the drying effect of the AC and the mixing of warm and cold air that comes out of the vents.

  2. All fine guys!!! Problem fixed... probably that was a wire from solenoid which should take the air off from the suspension circuit. I'm so happy! JEM quoted £800 for the sensors and £2500 for new pump... so save some money yeah. :D

I was going to email to see the condition of the drivers seat but decided against it!

  6. I wonder if an insurance company may find a way out of paying up after a serious accident if the tyre pressures were below manufacturers recommendations. On the subject of braking with the left foot, I've always done it with an auto, it feels completely natural.

  7. I ran the cable under the headlining and down behind the door pillar trim and connected it to the power socket in the centre arm rest. . No wires are visible. I like the neatness as it looks OEM very similar to how Lexus have installed the mirror & rain sensor wires. It auto switches on, the screen shows a picture for around 15 seconds. Fit & forget until needed. Don`t have an RX but no problem with the airbags in my GS.

  8. Tyre ware is directly affected by tyre pressures as is the grip of the tyres on the road. Under inflating tyres causes accelerated ware on the shoulders, more heat to be generated by the flexing of the tread, increases rolling resistance, and fuel used ultimately increasing pollution. Things are made even worse when you load the car with passengers that are not normally carried unless you adjust the pressures. Lets be honest do we alter tyre pressures unless we are going on a long prearranged run with 4 or 5 people in the car or do we carry on driving with the same pressures. Over inflation causes the centre of the tyres to ware, road grip to be lost, and extra shock loads to be transmitted to the suspension, and car body, and a greater risk of punctures and blowouts. There is a reduction in the amount of fuel used so less pollution. John

  9. I too think that his advice is spot on and generally full of commonsense. He has no axe to grind when reporting on problems and "tells it as it is " Although I must admit that I cannot bring myself to brake with my left foot (one of his pet recommendations), when driving an automatic ! I think that my relcutance to do so stems from an incident perhaps 40 years ago when I foolishly attempted to brake with my left foot when driving a manual car and almost broke my nose on the steering wheel !! Regards John

  10. I generally think his advice is spot on. I would reduce pressure by 4psi (measured cold) as they will run at the correct pressure when heated up.On my RX450h FWIW I think setting them cold at 32psi would be a reasonable solution.

  11. Picked up the RX today Pat on the back to Lexus Cheltenham who even topped the petrol tank up to 3/4 full for me. I must say, it's a completely different driving experience to the GS. Despite the test drives, bringing it back home today, I really became aware of its bulk and width and also found that it demands a completely different driving style. I miss the GS already in many respects. I found its seats slightly firmer and with more adjustment which I preferred, and it was much more of a driver's car. However the RX seems to make journey's more of an event than a chore and promotes a more laid back relaxing style of driving. The good points include the quietness of the ride, and surprisingly, how agile the car is for a 2.5 tonne beast. I'm glad we went for the F-Sport, It was worth the extra for the suspension which really does seem to limit body roll. Much less feedback though from the steering than I'm used to. It isn't bristling with as much adjustment or gadgets but perhaps that's no bad thing. HUD is brilliant as is hands free phone and satnav is a big improvement on the older version. I found that it seems better to leave the car in Sport mode all the time and just press the EV button when in town. The average of 20 miles of mixed motorway and town driving was about 32mpg but that is still rising as the tank was only just filled before I picked it up. Driving in ECO mode seems somewhat pointless. It seems to have a throttle lag/delay built in, so to make progress, say jumping into a gap when filtering onto a roundabout you have to rev the thing to get anything from it! I only had one foot to the floor moment to see how it picked up in Sport mode, and it does indeed fly. Perhaps still not quite as rapid as the GS but really there's very little in it, but only if Sport mode is selected. All that remains is to fiddle with the seating to try and get it spot on, but that always take and age when I change a vehicle. Will start a thread on longer term ownership a few months down the line but this seems a good place to sign off on this thread. For now, I have a list of jobs, which includes paint prep for polishing and sealing then waxing (cheaper than paying for the paint protection option!), then up onto the ramps for a clean off and wax-oiling of the sub frame assemblies.

  12. Just come across this. Crikey Chris, I feel for you! That much rust on a subframe of a relatively recent motor is unexpected but I guess living its life by the coast has played a large part of that corrosion. Hope your new part sorts the issues for you and you're left with a solid car for many more years to come. How is the underpan out of interest? Is that treated/sealed in some way? My last GS lived by the Severn Estuary most of its life and even at 8 years old, corrosion has set in on the engine block pulleys, the cross member supporting the radiator and various other steel pressings. I was pretty shocked when I found it, but cleaned it all up and just oiled up the parts and it never seemed to get any worse. Luckily you're a handy chap with a spanner, and if as OCD as me, then I'm expecting that you'll have that RX in far better shape than when you bought it. Look forward to seeing the end results of your labours

  13. There is a way to work out the tyre pressure for any size/type of tyre... You start off with a cold pressure of say 30psi, then drive the car at motorway speed for 30mins to get them up to temp, then take another reading, the tyre should be 4psi higher than it was when cold, if it is more or less you wait for it to cool and try again. it's a recognised way to work out the pressure when changing tyre sizes.. I'm with PCM and others though, never had any problems when running at what the manufacturer states...

  14. Have a look at the Exide Edge range of AGM batteries. Also although this sounds a bit off the wall I use a mobility scooter battery in my GS450H. These batteries are designed to withstand deep discharges on a daily basis. They also generally have a much higher amp hour capacity size for size against other batteries. They are available on line, and from some battery outlets such as The Battery Bay at Cannock. The batteries do not have standard terminal posts, but standard adaptor post can be bought and fitted for a couple of pounds. I also used a mobility battery in my Prius a very tall thin battery, and was able to find a battery of the same dimensions, but with 30% more capacity. If you are disabled no VAT is charged on mobility batteries. If you can measure the battery tray I can give details of suitable batteries. John

  15. On 1/4/2017 at 5:38 PM, NemesisUK said: I was impressed with the Lexus VC, worked 'straight out of the box'... The VC in a 2016 RC300h has been considerably improved in respect of its equivalent in a 2013 IS300h, which, presumably, was an earlier-generation version. Where the latter correctly recognized my commands five or six times out of ten if I was lucky, I now get far more first-time hits than misses irrespective of the application - and despite the fact that my voice is no less croaky or my enunciation any less slovenly. As a result, I find myself appreciating the system more and more having previously almost entirely given up on it. Although I occasionally still used it to command the Navigation to guide me home, any attempts at other more complicated Navigation entries or the Audio and Telephone functions were abandoned long ago because I could feel my blood pressure going through the roof every time I was asked to repeat myself. In short, although I am far from considering the system to be indispensable, I do find it reliable and effective, as well as valuable in helping to avoid distractions otherwise inherent in manually operating the infotainment when the car is in motion. For this latter reason alone, its use should be encouraged.

  16. Honest john or the manufacturer that designed the car and spent ages testing it to make it safe, easy choice . How can he say 30/30 without knowing size/width/speed rating, load of tyre. Total rubbish.

  17. Thanks for the response Steve. In theory, according to my receipt, the cabin filter was changed 5k miles ago at its annual service. My current thinking is that the circulation pump is faulty, preventing the hot water circulating when in EV mode. I think the damp is 3 fold - heavy condensation from the sunroof and void between the roof lining and roof, general wintry conditions and the heater malfunction means its not drying out said condensation as it likely did previously. A secondary possible assessment would be some sort of minor leak somewhere, maybe related to the heater issue or from the sunroof seal perhaps but thats me just guessing. And finally, the MPG, from reading on here, is likely just the cold weather, possibly exasperated by the need for the blowers to be one full to dry the screen and the lack of heat meaning the heating system is trying to work harder. I'm going to get on with checking the pump - will revert once I've tested it. Thanks

  19. I've had my dashcam hard wire installed in my GS for a year or so. It's right next to the rear view mirror and other than the shortest piece of cable (about 2 inches I guess) exiting the camera and heading behind the trim, absolutely no wiring is visible. Best of all it was fitted without removing any significant trim and with very simple tools in about 10 minutes. Certainly no removal of the overhead console involved... just wiring directly from the fuse box to the top of the windscreen. No wires cut and all very quickly and easily reversible. I think I spent about £10 on wiring kit and parts to make this a simple job. Happy to go into more detail / and or do a quick video if this would help anyone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  21. I wanted a tidy no wires showing no suction mounts installation. I went with a A118/B40. Works well with good picture quality. No parking mode though. Picture of it installed in my IS300 Fsport and it is now in my GS.

  22. You really need to have it up on a lift, that way you can manually adjust the height of the sensors, that will at least tell you if that's the problem.

  23. Hi, Cannot help with the ABS which would require diagnostic equipment. However regarding the wipers, these are exposed to the environment & deteriorate over time, I would recommend a strip & clean. Fronts are working but not parking correctly, possibly caused by dirt/corrosion on the electrical contact ring. There are posts on this forum regarding corrosion of the rear wiper pivot causing failure and your issue of slow/laboured operation sounds similar. Hope this helps.

  28. Indeed. Fits my wee one and the wife for weekend trips. Very reliable. It's the sr so has all the bells and whistles. Komotec do a 370, 390, 410, 430 and 460 upgrade kit which also include torque. Not cheap though. I have added a car back, alcantara wheel from the 400, splitter and side skirts. I can't lie, it's a bloody special car for gt and sports car use.

  29. Hi, So I spent the last 3 months looking for brake replacement and also where to buy the parts from. At first I queried at Lexus Croydon and was given the following prices: Replace front discs and pads inc Labor - £961 Replace back discs and pads inc Labor - £798 Bringing this to a total of £1759 This is a barbaric amount where most of that price comes from labor. Now to how i saved a lot of money. Firstly took a lot of time to find somewhere that sold the parts. Front Discs Front Discs I went OEM Brembo. Bought them from Shipley Motor Factors (www.shipleymotorfactors.co.uk). They arrived within 5 days and had good customer service. Price for 2 discs - £155.86 inc free delivery Front Pads Front pads are Hawk Ceramic Pads, i bought them off a seller on ebay and they arrived within 2 weeks from the USA - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hawk-Performance-Ceramic-Brake-Pads-IS-F-CLK55-AMG-CLK63-AMG-SLK55-AMG-/371249714168? Price for 2 sets of pads - £176.72 inc Delivery Rear Discs and Pads I bought these from Kam Racing (www.kamracing.co.uk) and just told them the part numbers over the phone as not listed on their site due to not being a part they stock a lot of. They had to back order them to Brembo Italy and they were shipped as soon as they hit UK waters. Customer service was good so was not worried about waiting. Price in total for both rear discs and pads - £341.42 Fitting Now fitting can be done at any respectable garage, there is no need to get this done at Lexus. I had mine replaced at a close friends garage and it was 2 hours work (£60 per hour), but knowing the place and having been there before I was only charged an hour. Bringing the total for changing all discs and pads to £60 Total Paid Total to replace all discs and pads including labor - £734 I am disappointed Lexus overcharge so much and this makes them lose customers when basic parts need replacing, I am not too fussed doing all this leg work but others may not have the time and end up paying silly amounts of money for the same work. I thought I would put this post up so people can see that there is other places to buy parts and save £1000 if you dont go through the dealer. Just to point out, all parts that are easily replaced and not major engine work I get done at my mates garage, everything that is engine or recall or even service gets done at the dealer.

  30. Bit of a thread revival (again) but thought I'd update the thread having just replaced the front pads & discs and rear pads. Lexus originally quoted the £1294 and then £999 after discount. Thought I could do better so bought the Brembo front discs from here http://www.bestpartstore.co.uk/1657687 - £156 inc shipping. Took about a week to arrive from Germany. Already have Hawk Ceramic Pads on the front, they stop better IMO & have lower dust compared to the OEM Brembo's, and now they do the same compound for the rears so ordered new fronts and rears from Cambridge Motorsport. - £321.69 inc delivery. http://www.cambridgemotorsport.com/node/5928 The part no for the rears is HB722Z.652 as it doesn't appear on their website but spoke to Jon at Cambridge Motorsport and he was very helpful in sourcing them! Local garage have fitted for £100. All in £577 saving £422 compared to the dealer. Nice!

  31. Hi just on the subject of MoTs. If your Local Authority does MoT testing take it there. They don't repair cars so it doesn't bother them whether it's a pass or fail, they don't make any extra money out of failing cars. I know MoTs should be fair but I had a fried who did all his own repairs etc. and every year the garage would fail him on something that the average diyer wouldn't be aware of. I told him about the Local Authority; he didn't have a single fail once he started going there! I've had a multitude of cars since the early 80s when I first started using Local Authority test centres; only had two fails in all that time. I had a Passatt estate with a load adjuster spring for the rear brakes. Every year the MoT tester would free it up instead of failing it and tell me to spray WD40 on it. Needless to say I forgot every year!

  32. Wow, so first welding quote back in.... £450+VAT.....!!! And just for the side with the hole and not the other side that almost has a hole. For those rates, it's cheaper to by a brand new cross member from Lexus!! Off to the breakers/eBay I go! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  33. Hi all, thanks for the kind comments, I am in no way an expert but have learned through experience (trial and error), experiment and research. I'd always intended to provide more write ups but having a family and a bit of an all consuming job put paid to a lot of good intentions! This lot certainly keeps me busy tho!! As you can tell, I'm a bit of a Toyota fan, seems to make sense to stick to one brand (warts and all) as tools, parts and procedures all fairly interchangeable - for example, the Celica shares a couple of parts in common with the Lex (oil filter, air filter and cabin filter, for example), plus all fluids and the same (coolant, oil, brake fluid etc) so makes things somewhat simpler... Looking forward to getting a hybrid one day to further expand my knowledge as if I ever did change career from IT, I can see a gap in the local market for Hybrid technicians/electronics engineers - might even start my own business one day! If anyone is local to Dorset and would like to pick someone else's brains on a problem or plug in to Techstream to read and set info on their vehicle, then always happy to oblige - just send me a message! Very grateful for the forum too, as it's nice to share views, knowledge, comments and experiences, so thank you all for being a good bunch! Thanks, Chris Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  34. Still no info on when the next update is due. I am amazed Tazzman600 was quoted £400 for an SD card! I found this website 360.here.com which claims to update for many car manufacturers inc Toyota (not Lexus?) through Mapcare. The update is carried when a service is carried out as part of the service. Something for Lexus to consider?
