  2. There is something to be said for 'Winter blues' when it comes to these things I reckon. I'm chomping at the bit to get mine out to enjoy the new supercharger setup, but the cold weather is a real fun killer in that respect! I'm sure it will be worth the wait, but do see why people lose interest or think about selling up. A few years back I bought a Navara because I thought it would be useful with snow etc, that's fine, but in reality how many snow days do we get each year?! Not many! Don't buy a car for the wrong reasons, don't sell a car on a whim, you only live to regret it I find.

  3. Well I have made it home but it wasn't drama free, serves me right for opening my big mouth, it's dangerous out there in freezing temperatures and packed ice on some roads, took me ages to get back on account of stopping three times, firstly to tow a Defender out of a ditch, then a gritting lorry and finally a snowplough - none of which unlike me were on winter tyres! On a more serious note, I took the LS for a blast round a very empty and icy a Tesco car park, very difficult to break traction unless seriously provoked and tried some emergency stops, no drama, no abs etc, will be interesting to see if the conditions in the morning can provide more challenge.

  8. Hey Mike, Indeed, made the same mistake myself when I sold my UK spec with a nice small single conversion! Would be worth a small fortune in comparison to what I got for it nowadays! You live and learn I guess!

  9. I have locked this as its sinking to the depths of tit for tat insults. We are meant to be adults so let's try and act like adults. Its Christmas time let's see some Christmas cheer and be nice to each other. Remember we are all allowed our opinion.

  11. I love the old fj40s as well especially the troop carrier style I saw for sale last year from Oz. Really I could maybe opt for one of these newer forerunners and keep the ISF. The beast aka my trusty t sport Yaris would have to go instead

  12. Couple more cars new to sale one at Lexus Leicester a White low miles one owner........here is a couple of pics of it in London 3 years ago looks nice http://usedcars.lexus.co.uk/en/used-lexus/Lexus/IS-F/50-V8-with-Mark-Levinson-Premium-Audio-qxbk4e6 And this Silver one on autotrader in isF circles this is quite a famous car as it was one of the first registered in the UK and was used in a lot of promotional work and magazine articles, I see the car has had fair old wedge spent on it including a short block, looks a nice car at a fair price https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201712041791211?make=LEXUS&model=IS F&logcode=p And here is a picture of her in action March 2008 Big Rat

  13. I'm still getting used to the whole hybrid experience and I'm really missing a rev counter for the engine. I've read all the manuals and I think I've pressed all the buttons but I can't see anything that will show revs - I haven't missed anything, have I?

  14. @mike m Your right about the confidence thing I worked hard to like my last car a 996 turbo, I spent money it had a relatively low mileage for 52 plate, and I thought if I keep it low the value would go up. So I wasn’t using it much, it’s ridiculous so I started using it all the time up when the mileage down went the reliability and the values of them started to rise. So I resparked my interest in the ISF, sold the 911 got nearly 5k more than I paid for it 18months before, so here I am now, and I’m glad I did. We need to use these things and enjoy 😊 🐀

  22. Agreed with other members Your gearbox will not get up to 6th gear until the engines warmed up - to see this yourself select the gear selection screen on the dash and take it for a drive in the morning and you will see for 3 or 4 miles or so it will remain in 5th gear. Obviously the cold weather will affect the time it takes to warm up. Its important to keep your coolant changes up to date also as this cools the gearbox. The temp sensor for the gearbox is, I believe, on the upper side of the box and some can be affected by condensation, coupled together with the freezing weather then it may explain why its taking a while to get to speed but if at fault there will be an error thrown up. Its not normal to only get to 30. I would put a code reader on it just to see if there are any stored codes. The dash board Christmas tree lights on mine came on last week in the snow and it was the MAF sensor that needed cleaning so it is more than likely weather related as it has been cold but I would get your codes read...

I've taken it out on my RX too. Good luck in your search, they're lovely motors.

  29. If you look at the Reliability Surveys which have been issued over the last 15 years James, you might have been much less surprised. It is extremely unusual for any purchaser of a JLR product to be a private consumer. They are Corporate or Self Employed who can offset the cost against taxation. The private buyer looks increasingly towards Japan and South East Asian owned organisations. The ones who give 5 or more year Warranties on their products.

  30. Seems a reasonable explanation to me. Keep the revs up to warm up more quickly. Certainly how it was in my Mercs, both held low gears until engine and perhaps more importantly the CATs had warmed up. Did you notice 'normal' or expected operation resumed once your engine had warmed up?

  31. By the looks of it you do have headlight washers fitted. They use the washer fluid to push up the cover when operating and it looks like its frozen the fluid and expanded pushing it up. Try heating the area up gradually with luke warm water.

  33. Hi phil once you adjusted the tire pressures you need to reset the warning - the button is located just above the pedals - you need to switch on ignition and press and hold the button for a few seconds - hope this helps

  34. Yes, heated washer nozzles is not too much to ask for on a car of this type, perhaps wired into the rear screen / wing mirror heaters.

  36. I'm in a 350 Peter, with old mismatched tyres on it the sensation was predominantly RWD. Very interesting in a big heavy jeep with no traction. I made it to work and immediately had a new set of tyres fitted (Hankook Durapro) which has given me the confidence that the gentlemen above have enjoyed. Totally put any scares I had down to the old tyres and my lack of driving ability. Snow mode seems to adjust the throttle response and gear shift in relation to RPM. When pressed it gives a reassuring feel of additional traction and stability, I believe that most Toyota models have this feature built into their electronic transmission control. Even my automatic Starlet has it. Hope that helps.

  38. yes nothing is fail safe and I still drive steady with the winter tyres on - dendonc my 'juggernaut' incident was on summer tyres and prompted the change to winters, the abs issue you state is a non issue as with winter tyres the beauty is that the abs rarely kicks in and I have never been on any hill in any condition in which I could not bring the car to a stop. It's minus 6 here and I'm just about to drive home and famous last words but I am confident I will make it home drama free.

  40. I don't know how you can achieve those figures, please share. My average since owning my NX is 33.1, which roughly is 35 in summer and 31 in winter. My last fill up I managed just 27 due to the cold snap. The best I have ever achieved from a tankful is 39.7, With a good run getting near to 40. I think it must be due to the roads you drive, or flat countryside with few hills on A and B roads. I do a regular motorway journey of 150 miles and at a constant 70mph I get no better than 38. I admit I do a lot of very short journeys with the car barely warming up, so I know I am below national average. Some tips would be good. :)

  42. All things considered with lexus, the tensioner does seem like the likely cause, And as someone with history working with (much simpler) engines, I had no problems agreeing with the lexus tech that this is a likely symptom, however I just hate the idea of chasing a problem around this engine not knowing whether it will be a problem again, also if bank 1 has this issue.. how long before bank 2 shows the same issue! I spoke to Lee at srd this morning, And I realised that love this car and realistically the only thing I would chop it in for realistically is a gsf... and i think thay might give the mrs a brain aneurysm, so I think theres only one way forward really, engine swap it is for me! So I'm on the lookout for an engine, any help from you guys on this front would be much appreciated.... I've seen the ads for the scrapped vehicles and talked to them, the 2010 already has it's engine sold and the 2008 is certainly expensive so I've got to keep my mind open and hope that something will come up, If anyone knows of any engines collecting dust somewhere im happy to give it a loving home where it will be pampered!! Honestly thanks for all your help so far and hopefully in advance for the help going forward Andy

  44. I already have a wife and her name is not Michael. Takes an average Joe quite a few weeks to actually save up £700 pounds to spend doesn't it? That's why it makes me feel quite ticked off to hear about professionals taking advantage of their position. These people just don't understand what a great proportion of a persons annual disposable income they are asking for when they make such slapdash repair estimates. I am very pleased that my input saved you a wedge, now go out and spoil the wife and bank the change!

  46. Quote: its the enjoyment from driving the car and the presence of it on the road I could not agree more. A trip to Bristol in a noisy diesel at 42 mpg or in the LS400 at 30 mpg? - no contest..... but........ if I only got 20mpg ... might have to think again!

  47. I can beat that ... I can remember a few years ago (2014) I thought I would see what mileage I could get - I posted it on the forum titled "Tank Range" - I don't know how to link a post into a post but you can find it on a search for Tank Range I recorded the mileage done after changing sensors and after a service and doing the caliper pins etc so the car was running spot on with no issue - I thionk at the time I was also using the BG44 engine cleaner 1st time I got 483 miles driving on a mixture of roads and the second time I got 540miles with all motorway (with 9 miles left reported as the range left !!) and the third time I got to 586miles. The cars are totally capable of good MPG if looked after and driven like Miss Daisy ! I have not monitored it since but I am off to Bristol tomorrow which is usually around 300 miles each way. I usually do M56 / M6 / M5 going and M5 / M6 / M54 and the A roads coming back so I will keep an eye out to see if I can match the figures below but I am not running it so low as the the second time as that was just to see what was possible. I have changed the exhaust since which may make a difference and I am due to service it next month but I will keep an eye out for comparison. Will be a big day tomorrow as well as this will be the second Lexus I have taken over the 100k mark ... is there a special club for this? I have put the pictures below 1 - 483 miles 2 - 540 miles 3 - 586 miles

  48. The LS 600h has a rev counter. Its handy for telling if the engine is stopped at low speeds. Normal motorway speeds it sits around 1100 rpm.

  49. Hey Guys, I'm not sure if you are still wondering about this - it seems like the post is pretty old. But, in case someone else runs across the question, I thought I would Chime in. I've been in the car business for 20 years, and always try to help when it comes to finding those hard-to-find parts for people that return their leases. Headphones are one of those things that people just dont think about until they have to return their leased car. Then, all-of-a-sudden it becomes an added lease return expense. it's a bit frustrating. While good dealerships will accept factory replacement parts (like IR headphones from china), many dealers want to be able to re-sell their investment with the original parts in the car. ebay is a good place to find parts, but you can also search on Google for reputable companies. I use http://www.froogle.com to find lots of parts sold by reputable companies with good return policies. For Lexus headphones and GPS discs, I have been fairly successful with http://www.audiovideo2go.com/categories/Automotive-Headphones/Lexus/ Just my two cents... http://leasexpert.wordpress.com/

  50. A little sad answering my own post but I managed to get a pair of these, £11.12 each plus P&P. I added the two AAA batteries to each headphone and they just worked flawlessly. I didn't realise how cheap they would be. :) But how long they last well that's a different matter.
