  2. I've mentioned the site before on here a useful toool when car buying or even looking up the cars you used to own. They are in the process of updating the site with more information and there is now a drop down selection with the MOT history where it was done and so on, they have now included manufacturers recall information. Its still work in progress but it makes a change to see where some of the money fleeced from us motorists by the government is put back into something beneficial. https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history Take a look. 5. Model ID mistakes like this are not uncommon. It is usually the case that the incorrect model is selected by backroom admin dealer staff when registering the vehicle for the first time using AFRL (Automated First Registration & Licensing System). These staff members do not often have insightful knowledge, especially on niche models like an IS-F. Those with better product knowledge ( i.e. sales staff) are forbidden from being involved in the registration process.

  6. According to a friend of mine, who runs a body repair business, it is all to do with the insurance companies trying to force down the cost of repairs but giving them a bigger profit on insurance costs. My friend is constantly being hassled by insurance companies over costs. If he quotes using a special paint then the insurance company will try to make him use a cheaper product, even though it might not blend in with the original paint. All the insurance companies want is the cheapest job, and the quality of the job is of no interest to them. If you repair, for instance, Mercedes or BMW, then you have to go to all sorts of training and buy in special equipment, and have the company site inspected by the car company before you can get a franchise. This is a very expensive over-head. However, the insurance companies want my friend to ignore all the quality checks and methods and just do quick repairs. So it is quite possible, depending on who repairs your Mercedes, that the bodywork warranty will be null and void if it repaired by a big insurance company. Basically these insurance companies are just a bunch of cheapskates who are only interested in profit. They will instruct a repair company to throw a cheap, third party, wing onto the car, whatever make the car is, rather than using an original part. Then you wonder why the wing, or door or whatever, starts to rust after 3 or 4 years even though the car has a 30 year body warranty guarantee against corrosion. The answer is [a] don't trust the insurance company, and try to get the car repaired yourself by a reputable, and responsible, body repair company. Parkman.

  7. Having watched episode 2 tonight, it's a good show, the celebrity section just takes out a slot which would be much h better used for for another car review/news, which would make the show even better.

  13. Well, more of a courtesy car than a test drive really. My wife's new NX needed some minor paintwork sorting out so they brought a 67-reg CT200 with 2k miles on the clock for us to use. We've done about 250 miles in it including some motorway, urban and a trip into central London, right across to the west, and back again. Pretty mixed driving. I don't know what trim level it is but it seems to be specc'd OK with satnav, cruise, heated seats, rear camera etc. So here goes: Likes: MPG: 49 and I was not driving for economy. That includes a lot of fairly "assertive" central London driving and 80mph motorway driving. Not bad at all. And it's still new and relatively tight. Smooth. It really is, especially in traffic. Good pickup in Sport mode, which it was in for most of the time. It seems to go much further on battery than the NX does which is a major plus. Build quality - whilst the inside feels a little cheap in places compared to a Golf, it feels really solid. And we know that the Prius upon which it is based lasts forever............ Dislikes (sorry, there are a few ): Road noise. Seems rather excessive. Probably the low profile tyres. Ride. Bordering on terrible. I'd just eaten and had a coffee before I went out in it for the first time and I could feel my dinner jiggling around in my stomach over our fairly average local roads. And this isn't a "sporty" car, so why's it so hard? Headlights. They're like half-awake gloworms in jars, and I'd just cleaned them. Very poor. I'd expected LEDs or xenons on a well equipped model. The satnav. Aaaaarrrrghhhhhhhh.........I can't even begin to list all of the issues. One example: I needed to enter a road name in London rather than a postcode. It would not let me enter London on its own as a Town and then move onto the street name. I tried. And tried.. This stuff should be intuitive, as it is on a £100 Garmin. But to be fair, the premier system in the NX is similarly frustrating. Satnav routing. Weird. Just weird. And I'd checked the settings. I got to see some weird and wonderful parts of London last night on the way home. Telephone: I've paired phones in the NX but didn't stand a chance with the CT. The same phones and the system just could not see each other. Again, this should be intuitive. So overall, mixed. Fundamentally, the actual drive itself was very impressive. I guess a gazillion Uber drivers in similarly platformed but less plush Prius' can't be wrong. It's the details and tuning that don't work for me. I've read about the 2018 model and would be pretty confident that Lexus will improve some of these things. and we know that every Lexus is a fantastic long term buy. If they fixed one or two of the irritants, I'd definitely consider it.

  14. I was doing all the time since Top Gear times... I was actually fine with F1 drivers in "reasonably prices car", because to be honest at least they are paid to be best drivers in the world and you can see what they can do on track even it cheap and underpowered car. But celebrities... honestly waste of time. GT1 was kid of fun where they had "brain crash", ridiculous but fun, but obviously after 10 series it was time for it to go.

  21. IT certainly sounds plausible that the wheel bearing might have had enough. Although, perhaps I am mistaken, but whenever I have had the same issue before, it is more of a clicking sound. Anyway, have you tried rocking the wheel back and forth to check for play in the bearing? If you are handy with a dial gauge, you could check it like so: Also, unless someone can clarify differently, it does look like the hub assembly and bearing are one unit:

  26. They really seems to be "unleashed now"... quite discriminating at point even beyond "my levels"... so far I consider GT as improvement over first series, with one caveat - I really hate celebrity part, I hate it since Top Gear times... in nutshell I don't really appreciate "celebrities", they are just normal people made popular by other people...

  27. IS-F should certainly show up as IS-F's and I have seen several showing-up, though I have seen RC-F and RC300h appearing as simply RC so it is bit hit and miss. What you need to do is after inserting VRN where it asks if that is correct car it states make colour and engine displacement. So if it shows IS250 with 5l engine, then it is likely IS-F... or just IS with 5L engine... "after all it is just engine and gearbox which is different" Now they show outstanding recalls on the cars as well - quite good site...

  28. Clips arrived today. Clearly Chinese copies but look the same to the untrained eye. 10x for £2.18 ain’t bad. Popped the replacement in and had a closer look at the panel while I was at it. Not idea why the manual says to remove it when changing the dipped beam as doing so really won’t give you anymore room. Osram Night Breaker Unlimited have been a good improvement over the standard Osram bulbs in before. Not much more distance on the road but brighter, clearer and also light up signs better.

  31. Arghh my eyes blue and beige Nice looking motor with the alternative wheels but not my cup of tea. Would need a nice black interior from an is220d... Mine is still pretty low around 20800 miles on the clock ,13 plate.

  32. Yeah I was a tad gutted when I first saw it being advertised. It's started at £24k then dropped quite quickly. Ending up not far off what I paid for mine but a year newer and 10k less on the miles. Still over the moon with mine anyway so can't complain too much!

  34. I agree with the above post, transmission failure would probably write the car off, for me. Suspension would make my eyes water a bit, but I'd bite the bullet and replace the lot with conventional struts, which should be a one off solution. Fixing one corner wouldn't work for me, I'd just be waiting for the next one to go pop. I'd also replace the radiator immediately after buying a 430, again, for peace of mind.

  36. My wife did the same on our IS except she went into the garage door. My dealer is Lexus Bradford who use the RRG bodyshop in Bolton. I had to pay non approved repairer excess I think but all the panels were fitted properly, the paint patch was spot on and panel gaps were all the same. I went through insurance and it was £2.3k needing new front bumper and wing with front door, a pillar and bonnet needing blending in. Lexus picked up the car, fixed it in a week and dropped it off again. Massively efficient service and the job was top notch. Been 2 years since and no problems at all, no one would know Tbh I wouldn't take the IS to anyone other than Lexus. These guys know how to take the car apart and put it back without any diagrams. I wouldn't take my car to someone who probably hadn't even worked on an IS before. Oh, this is my wifes car this year when I washed it

  37. Thanks all for the advice, looks like I may go down the insurance route and have Rrg accident repairs to carry out the work because the age of my car and are Lexus approved, atleast I have some sort of comeback if I'm not happy with the job. estimate came back at £2.5k.

  38. Good point parkman and quite true having read similar in other car forums. However if my celestial black is300h had to have an insurance body repair and they instructed the repairer to 'skimp' the repair then after I would inspect the repair and not be happy with it and I would get all the info from the repairer I'd let the insurance company knowand threaten them with legal action if the repair was not up to manufacturer quality. All my insurance policies have had built in to them a top notch repair. But this threads originator isn't going thru his insurance. He's paying cash.

  41. Pete It sounds like you have a airlock within the heating matrix and this is causing restricted flow that is fluctuating with increased pressure from the engine when the temp goes up. You will be best served getting the system totally flushed and refilled properly exhausting any airlocks. The leak in the radiator can cause the problem you have in that it will draw air into the system as it cools down after use this air lock will travel round the system and get lodged because the pressure on both sides of the airlock equalises.
