I was just reading a thread on this site whereby a member felt the need to apologise to another member for getting the gender of their car wrong. I feel that in this day and age we need to be careful about gender stereotyping and wondered what gender other members give to their cars and why? What makes a male car and what makes a female car? I do not want to upset mine by getting it wrong!3 points

@mrfunex And look at the internal engine problems that both the Mercedes has had C63 stretched head bolts and the M3 spinning crank shells......... Id be wrong to say either of these engines have had lots of major issues they haven't I've owned the M3 and had access use of a C63 would I buy a product again from either of these companies absolutely not as engines aside they both suffer from numerous other problems niggles...... I want reliability now and @FTBBCVoodoois absolutely right they are reliable all the 'F's have a reliability record the Germans could only dream of...... if they could be bothered that is ๐2 points

The definition of gender is being male or female. Male = of or denoting the s*x that produces gametes, especially spermatozoa, with which a female may be fertilized or inseminated to produce offspring. I dont think cars can fertilise each other - would therefore have to say they don't have a gender - but I mean everything exists in the mind so if you want yours to be a girl then so be it. I find this whole gender debate stupid and utterly ridiculous - we've become a society scared of saying anything in case of offending someone. I prefer to keep things simple - a male is a male if it looks like a male and a female is a female if it looks like a female. If they want to identify themselves as something else, then they better let me know or I'll probably end up offending them all day long Give it a few years and someone will probably start a trend of identifying themselves as a kangaroo.2 points

Given that the GSF hadnโt been dreamed up when the ISFโs design was being finalised, I find the claim that the ISF was held back to stop it stepping on the toes of its big brother unlikely... Yamaha did a pretty good job with the intakes on the ISF, Iโd imagine any gains by polishing etc to be negligible - worth a play if youโre interested in that kind of thing though. The ECU will relearn any subtle changes, so a remap ought not to be required. The OEM exhaust is, however, a bit restrictive. It has a flat section to get it past the back axle - proper aftermarket ones maybe release 10bhp or so...2 points

So my rod bearings and turbo have come....... but the rod bearings are damaged. Ive emailed whifbitz about it and just waiting for a response, it was just poorly packaged and the turbo has dented/crushed the bearings so its a little set back but its ok im sure it will be sorted. The turbo on the other hand ......... jesus ***** it is huuuuuuuuuge!!! Alot bigger in person compared to looking at pictures of it! Just for comparison ive placed a 2ltr coke bottle next to it, keep in mind this is slightly larger than the normal 2ltr And 1 next to honey ๐ Will crack on with piston ring gaps tomorrow and hopefully my bearings wont set me back too much1 point

Yep there G spyders same as mine. Mine were in a dreadful state but had all 4 refurbished last year for 300 notes and they look splendid now. You really need to get the caliper pins lubes up. Trust me when they seize up they are a nightmare to free up. I ended up having to replace the housing on the rears and it wasn't cheap. Other than that it' a superb car. Enjoy ๐1 point

My LS400 is male called Rio, after the number plate. My RX 300, I think is female. Chloe after the number plate KL0. I say to "her" in the morning, "Well KLO, what do ya know?" And she always starts first time!1 point

Naturally young man. I pick it up on Wednesday hopefully so I'll take some pics if the weather's decent.1 point

Interestingly I put a deposit on a silver Lexus today, I can easily understand how a fetish may grow from it.1 point

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. I was the one being apologised to! My GS450h is Gus, as in Angus. Itโs a boy. My wifeโs RX350 is Roxy and is obviously a girl. We only started naming our cars after we bought a red SLK which had a nice note from the previous owner in the handbook explaining that he was called Manfred after Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen aka The Red Baron. My โ15 Touareg was Rufus (numberplate started with RF). I think itโs cute but also stupid to name cars. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Well spotted, its probably an LS400. Too many negatives for anyone to take it seriously unless they live next door to it and already know the car.1 point

How am I supposed to know they're a ladyboy lol - unless you go to Bangkok fairly regularly I dont think its much of an issue1 point

Been on a good run, it's a lot better but not quite right. There is a slight blip on the revs when I come to a halt, not as bad as it was. Next job is to fully remove the throttle body and give the barrel and all the passage ways a good clean. bring on the good weather.1 point

Hmm...hard to diagnose anything from that - except that you are in USA? Do you have an annual emissions check - if so, what did that say? I think you need someone who can use an oscilloscope to diagnose where your misfire is and what is causing it. No point in trying to replace anything else or tackle the smell until that has been sorted out. It is just possible, although unlikely, that you have an internal engine problem - burned valve or broken piston ring so a compression test might be a good idea.1 point

@Big Rat Do you keep a database on all the ISF's in the UK? If so, do you have much on mine - AY10 XNX, formerly in Peterborough? Will make a very good value for money buy when I come to upgrade to an RCF in 12 months or so... Thanks,1 point

The difference is the same as saying when the 2jz went vvti of course they progress otherwise we need to revolt against them lol but it is restrictive in the isf otherwise why would you automatically gain so much more power and rev range from a N/A car... simple question is why can BMW achieve similar power from a 4 litre and from a 5 so much more. This was nothing to do with emissions was simply the boat was not entirely pushed out. I know the engines have a difference my point is from a performance aspect... My Japanese has slipped slightly lol but I have built my fair share of grey imports to know where they hold back but usually it's a simple improve to make the engine and car a thing to make the Germans tremble... sadly not anymore.1 point

The engine in the GSF, albeit similar, is not the same as the ISF, nor is the ISF โstrangledโ. The ISF was very good for the day; the GSF is approximately 8 years newer - engines move on. The newer 2UR-GSE uses different materials, a higher compression rate, a higher pressure DI fuel system. It revs higher as itโs slight better balanced, has slightly larger valves and a better designed cooling system. The exhaust system and intake are different. Itโs still a 5.0 V8, but not many parts are interchangeable. The LC500 *does* use the same engine as the GSF and the RCF, by with a twin air intake this liberates another 4bhp. You can read (depending on your skill at Japanese!) up on it here... some of the diagrams are self-explanatory.1 point

Personally, all my cars, including my current one, have been male. I just feel that it is too bulky and rough to be anything else. My partners Renault Clio was female. Maybe it was because she was delicate and fell apart easily?1 point

Its MOT shows some dodgy mileages, it went backwards for 11000 miles. I would bother any further with it unless you are absolutely desperate to own an LS which could cost you a fortune in repairs. MOT out in March. Photographed in the dark, the guy isn't serious about selling it or thinks we are all a load of Bozos. Lexus purposely restricted the ISF engines performance so that they did not need to force induction the GSF. The torque and performance aren't the moon and sun type of figures especially when they graced us with the 2JZ vvti twin turbo that could achieve amazing stuff with minimal effort 2 decades prior to the isf. We all know in reality bhp should be nearer to 100 bhp per litre and figures exceeding 400lb ft of torque.1 point

The quick and easy way to adjust the dip beam is to adjust the position of the link on the front N/S suspension. This can be got at with the wheels turned to full lefthand lock, and requires a 10mm spanner to slacken the adjuster nut. John.1 point
