  1. Hi Ronnie - I disagree with you on this one. Please see what you think to my perspective: Yes, many makes of vehicle get stolen. But there are several problems here regards Toyota vehicles specifically: 1. Toyota models (not just Lexus) have an extremely vulnerable wiring loom that CAN (see what I did there...) be rapidly accessed with almost no damage to the car. This is more vulnerable than other car makers. At least with Range Rover a hole needs to be cut in the body to get to the wiring. And JLR have been doing a recall to add some security into the CAN. 2. Look at the statistics. RX is very high up on theft statistics, as is (gen 1) NX in France I believe. The CAN theft issue came to light in Japan in July 2021 with the theft of a Lexus. This seems to mean that vehicles with a known security flaw were being sold for almost 2 years after the issue was reported. And it's not that vehicles are just getting stolen from "dodgy places". Thieves are steering vehicles directly from people drive ways. So how can people be more vigilant in parking that on their own drive way? 3. My car is still under its original 3 year warranty, has a massive security flaw and Lexus is, so far, doing very little to improve matters other than putting on two small pieces of steel. I guess they are too busy working on wireless android auto or finding a new intern to work on Lexus Link Plus. And if I buy a car and the manufacturer refuses to engage in problems in a timely manner, am I really not going to let this influence my decision to buy another car from them? What happend to the quality that the brand used to display? Anyway, sorry for the rant, I am happy to agree to disagree with your perspective! Paul

  3. These are two theft methods. The key fob boosting I'd called a relay attack. The CANbus method doesn't require the key at all.

  7. Very well said, from a personal standpoint being a Lexus owner for one year and new to the brand their lack of action is a disappointment. In my eyes the brand is tarnished with poor dealer experience and a UK division that has badly let their customers down. When my ES is replaced it absolutely will not be with another Lexus vehicle. Even if they acted now and did a recall it is all too late and not good enough.

  8. Just the same for me yesterday, occurred every time I started the car. Seem to be spending more time with this car messing about with messages on the multimedia system than actually watching where I'm going. It's one hell of a distraction.

  9. Yes....and another one with same problem.... on a 450+. As others, I have pressed OK button and followed instructions to re-instate, only to get same on next trip. It also shows a 'reset' in red, wanting password etc....I have left this well alone. Would suggest that Lexus owners who do not read this forum will be queuing outside or on the phone to respective dealers. Beginning to agree with many people on this forum, that it is a great car totally let down by Multimedia software

  11. I don't believe 'cornering lamps' are an MoT check as long as the function is a separate bulb. Dealers may be able to code out the cornering lamps, telling the car it doesn't have them fitted if other variants don't have them. Personally I find them very useful, especially reversing in dark driveways or car parks.

  17. Luckily I had booked through Booking.com and had free cancellation until 22nd December so cancelled joined the club and booked again through there website but it’s not free cancellation, we can’t win can we but it was £15 cheaper so we will see if I get free parking. Dell

  19. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to respond. At least I now know it's not something I've done myself!! As others have said, I am now questioning whether I would get another Lexus when I decide to change. This is my first Lexus (apart from an IS200 when they were first launched which was a company car), and the 'Experience Amazing' strap line they use is not appropriate to my experience. Maybe it should be: 'You'll Be Amazed'...............by the number of issues you'll have! 😁

  20. There's a battery heater and cooler on board which whilst taking some power itself must have some positive effect on the efficiency of the traction battery. Regardless of that the miles/kWh certainly takes a dive south at the moment.

  22. Yup, me too. I’ve been experiencing exactly same for a couple of weeks. I have discussed with dealer who admits they have no idea what is causing it and it has been added to the rather long list of connectivity issues I have and which tech support are supposedly working on. @Alan Thompson I’ll be interested to hear what Lexus Leeds have to say.

  23. Guys....happening on my NX 450h+ as well. It appears each time I start the car and I have to re-enable it. The message says Geolocation Sharing disabled by outside network settings so maybe from the Lexus Connected servers? It's a PITA so would be pleased to find out how to overcome it. Colin

  24. Hi Alan, I had the same pop-up in my NX350h yesterday so you're not alone. I clicked on "OK" and then re-enabled the "Share geolocation with Toyota" option. I haven't driven the car since doing that so not sure if the problem has been resolved permanently. Maybe a blip at the Lexus\Toyota back-end?

  26. Consistent result from previous with the overnight charge at 51.2/45.6. Battery was completed depleted again and temperatures were below zero. Actual from yesterday's charge was a disappointing 31.9 miles on a regular journey that gave 48 - 50 in the summer months. Daytime temperatures yesterday were never above 5 degrees. Batteries certainly don't like the cold!

  27. You’re absolutely right about that. The trouble is that my wife simply cannot face the day without breakfast, so that when we travel together, I inevitably end up with two breakfasts on the hotel bill. When I travel alone (which is rare nowadays) I never take breakfast in the hotel but head for the nearest place where I can get served at a fairer price. Believe it or not, I sometimes used to do this as a matter of principle even when travelling at company expense. The thing about hotel breakfasts is that you can quite easily estimate the difference between the costs and the price of what you eat, and, as far as I’m concerned, gross margins that often look to be around 90% are difficult to accept regardless of the quality, class and location of the hotel.

  29. Yeah CR2032 anyhow got a couple of Duracell delivered. Changed it over tried the car wouldn't open. Ooooh have they sent duds, changed again put the other one in same again. Mmmm told Mrs Alaw she said I'm sure we have some somewhere in a pack she got them for some gadget. She found them a pack of six one missing but i spotted a CR2032. Put it in the key fob and presto it worked. The Duracell looked in pristine condition well packaged i thought they cant be duds. They weren't. I noticed on the back of the battery a small sticker that small you could hardly read it. Something about harmful etc. The sticker was very small i mean small. Anyhow took one off took the working battery out and put the Duracell in minus the sticker presto it worked. never would i have thought that small sticker would hinder the contacts. To be honest it was a straight forward job easy to do i was expecting all sorts of procedures to do to get key recognized again but no so easy. The manual just tells you to change the battery. Happy days folks.

  31. When i first passed my test that 1.4 SRI Corsa was a sports car. Everyone else running 1.0 ecotec cars while i had that full injection model with enough torque to pull my car left under full throttle... Technically my Supra was a sportscar. 😁

  33. Take it should be "spray" and "underseal" 😊 I agree with everything you've put apart from the above if it's that "carpet" type stuff inside the rear wheel arches. Ours keeps getting clogged with leaves and bits of everything else, you can't get it clean unless you use a pressure washer on it which I don't want to have to get out every time the car gets washed, I can see it being a nightmare when we get some snow and that packs in it. P.S. I'm just complaining on behalf of SWMBO who does the car cleaning, I'm fed up of hearing her moan about it. 😉

  34. I had a similar experience with a Peugeot - got an M16 405 or was it 406? after having the std 405 with 1.9 engine. The result was banned from driving by the sheriff of Forfar for two weeks and £150 fine doing 135 mph on the A9 instead of 70. The rover 825 police car could not catch me until I stopped at road works about 5 miles further on ☺️. I never learned from that. Banned for 3 months and 300 Euro fine by the Tarn police doing 200Kph in a quick Megane on an empty country road with a 90Kph limit. I am now a good and very careful driver thank you.😇 BTW - they chased but never caught me doing 175 on the M61 on a tuned Yamaha 1000... Not proud of being stupid - Sorry everyone! It was when I was young and very thick.

  39. Tyre pressure certainly drops with a decrease in temperature. It can be enough to activate the TPMS warning light - I’ve had it myself. But 5C is not that cold and 2.3 bar to 0.9 bar is surely a slow leak. If you know what wheel it is, I’d examine the tread for a small nail - or similar - and the valve for an air leak. Another possibility is wheel rim damage.

  40. Dear all, It is only today (16th Nov) that I am getting my car back from the workshop. They said that the loom cable did not need to be replaced but that the repair was successful and a new adaptor was plugged in on the headlight. new bumper was fitted in to complete the work. So I was without my car for near 6 weeks and had to bear driving the Hyundai Ionic in the meantime. All in all, I am extremely displeased with my insurance (Churchill) for failing to provide me with a car that is in the same category group as my ES, so they will be informed that I will cancel Churchill insurance as I have got another car insurance set up for a new vehicle that I am going to pick up tomorrow. Yes, sadly I am getting rid of the ES300h, as I do not wish to repeat this experience should there be a 3rd time with another attempted theft. I certainly am not willing or prepared to wait for another 6 weeks without my car for more repairs to be done worse is if the loom cable needs replacing, it would be a 3 months wait without the ES. In my opinion, Lexus has seriously failed to address this matter quickly: currently all ES are vulnerable, even if the 2023 is more secure with the encrypted CANBUS, it will not fully stop thieves from trying to steal the car knowing how easy it seems to be with headlight hacking techniques, so prospect of damaging the bumper and loom cable remains a huge risk in my opinion. I remain glad that the Metatrak Plus as additional immobiliser has done a great job keeping my car in my parking drive regardless of the 2 attempted thefts. So, tomorrow I am picking up an AUDI A6 AVANT 2.0L Black Edition Quattro S Line 2018, which ticks all the boxes with all options I wanted. I never had this car before and think it will be a very practical car for my family. However, I am still a Lexus fan and I am keeping my SC430 and NX300H.

  41. I've not tried in the UX but typically if you have the AC off and you hit the front demist button it will temporarily turn on AC - worth trying this as it will reduce your need to use the touch screen.

  44. As with the RX, UX, NX, LS and LC it’s just not good enough. Lexus should do a recall on all affected cars. There is no point fitting immobilisers and steering locks at owners cost when thieves will still try and steal the cars. Steel plates or a revised canbus system or a free immobiliser - whatever it takes. The thought of Lexus ending up with the same reputation as Land Rover doesn’t bear thinking about.

  45. As mentioned previously I believe all vulnerable ES models should be recalled. Lexus should install a third party immobiliser to make up for their design issues. Alternatively all vehicles could be updated to ensure MITM attacks cannot be conducted on the Cambus

This is what really hacks me off when a loyal customer who, like me has driven Lexus and Toyota cars for years has to consider changing brands because Lexus couldn't give a monkey's if they do and all because of the failure of Lexus to provide adequate anti theft measures to their product range. Not withstanding useless Insurers/Repair shops who don't fulfill their obligations in a reasonable time frame. Lexus cars world wide are one of the most likely to be stolen because they are pitifully easy to steal. Owning a car eventually will just become too much of a headache in addition to the stealth taxes they are subject to by every Government since Adam was a lad. The motorist is a cash cow, from fuel duty, road tax, insurance and UK new car prices all of which are going only in one direction - UP
