  1. Hi All - Finally found the perfect RX450h Premier 2014 with 86k miles and collected it yesterday. Service by Lexus last week so got another year worth of Lexus Warranty. Hybrid Warranty check, New brake pads and Discs done in the last month, with fresh MOT and full service history. Very happy with my choice and I’m glad I didn’t go for the for the lemon with all the advisories. See previous post Just wanted to say many thanks for the keen advice I got on here with helping me make the decision to go for this one… Jag

  2. Being new to Lexus ownership I had high hopes for the 10 year warranty, but was slightly sceptical. Had to take my newly acquired RCF to Lexus Edinburgh, having not noticed on purchasing that only cold air was coming out on the passenger side. Additionally, drivers seatbelt wasn't retracting too well. It was a private purchase, but with full DSH. Superb dealer experience really well looked after and no charge for diagnosis. The entire passenger heater box needs to be replaced, along with the seatbelt. Non warranty cost is £3k ! Covered in full, without hesitation, subject to taking a couple of weeks to get the parts. Shows the value in dealer servicing, especially as these cars age.

  3. Thanks Eggie. I have just done the reset, and did manage to do the complete reset, set up my profile, link all my keys to it, and phone etc. It did lose all the settings I had redone when I did the previous reset (just from the personal info menu), but amazingly my previous favourites and recent destinations have reappeared. These were set with the native Lexus profile, so no idea how that has happened. I did lose the station favourites, but as you say, easily reloaded. No more blue terms and conditions screen. And the app is recording the journeys, although not tried a journey since this last update. So all is well. Let's just see if the horrible profile sync issue emerges again. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I have a suggestion or two for Toyota, like why are they such dicks when it comes to all this.

  4. Just got my GS back from it's annual service and MOT, 7 years old now but still looks and drives beautifully. Total clean sheet from Lexus, no advisories at all. Thought I'd treat her to a full detail to celebrate. Kudos to Lexus Hedge End for their usual spot on service. I was just thinking, what else could you buy now in the Lexus range (excluding LC/RC-F) that can rival the comfort, power and economy of this GS ? It's a keeper for sure! Dave.

  6. It's cheaper. Toyota/Lexus will claim one is better than the other everytime they flip flop from NiMH to Lithium Ion and back again to NiMH. The newer bi-polar battery means it is more powerful than the old NiMH ones, so it doesn't have to be so large - this was the main reason they fitted more expensive Lithium Ion batteries in the past where they needed the boot space in a vehicle. Potentially the new Yaris Cross will move to this battery too, or maybe just the higher powered version that is equivalent to the LBX - there's a lack of info on this until nearer the launch.

  7. What a bone of contention getting an 'old' car serviced at its main dealership. Personally speaking I will Always take a Lexus to Lexus for its servicing and MOT. It's because I was loyal to Lexus Stockport that they gave me a new UX250H free of charge for FOUR days when they replaced the faulty alternator on my beloved is250. To you sceptics. Would your independent do that? I doubt very very very much they would. Simple thing is. You Get What You Pay For. Pay peanuts you get monkeys working on your car. As for installing a dash cam into a car. Unless one is unfortunately disabled then why can't one fit it ones self?

  8. It does! I also have an ancient aluminium skinned motorhome that is distinctively scabby. On the plus side it keeps the robbers away.

  9. Yes, but that was in 2021 on 2015 car, meaning it gives you Lexus Relax warranty. At that point I agree - it is totally worth it. This is on 2011 in 2024, no Lexus Relax included. In short it was £1,300 service plan on 6 years old car that is worth £12,000+warranty vs. £1,300 on 13 years old car worth £6,000 and no warranty. Honestly, the main problem is that Lexus discontinued Essential Care, because I remember having 2 year service plans for £500 (£180+£320). That makes perfect sense and in fact independent service probably would cost just as much. The service plan only makes sense when warranty is included in it, else it is certainly too expensive for cars over 10 years old. Also Lexus "approved" parts is questionable. Any parts are always at extra cost, except of things like air filters and oil filters, so yes they use Lexus parts, but you have to pay for them so I just can't see how is that benefit. You may as well buy the parts at 30% of the cost from US or UAE and bring them to your independent?

  10. @Jim1977 I think some of the forum members from higher risk areas may start parking their car outside your house to get that renewal price?!

  11. I was poking around getting an idea for what I wanted to swap out my '15 Suzuki Swift Sport for and once again came round to the idea of a CT. Plenty of looked after cars around at reasonable prices and then accidentally came across a very nice dealer car. High end of the prices but well worth it. One 550mile round trip later and I got myself a very tidy 1 owner car. 2020 F-Sport in Deep Blue with black leather and 12k on the clocks Tech, Convenience, and Leather packs Premium Nav and 10 speaker Fresh full service and MOT Catloc fitted by the dealer when they took it in. Full tank of fuel (they accidentally filled it) I hadn't driven one of these since my days valet parking some 7 years ago and the salesman was quite surprised I still knew where every switch and fiddly bit was and more so that I was quite happy just to get in it and go without any sort of test drive. Feels built like an absolute tank and incredibly comfortable for the ride home. I got around 56mpg on the way home with the aircon on and doing 70mph. That used to be diesel territory on a good day. And 10mpg more than my previous car on the trip up. Will be interesting to see how it stacks up with my normal commute driving.

  12. 1991 Lexus LS 4.0 400 4dr for sale for £8,790 in London, Middlesex (autotrader.co.uk) This looks quite amazing and all original they say ............. same colour and year as mine but obviously more immaculate and pristine and with it's original hifi set-up ...... just a few speedo miles less tho' and NOT to be used everyday methinks . well, only if you want to keep it's value and not get the enjoyment from her ....... and that would be a waste ............. and it's non-interference cambelt so's not to worry if it's not been changed too often ( or at all ) ....... I don't remember it being ever specified with this model tbh ENJOY Malc

  13. I got an Euki-X10 for about £40 on amazon and it works a treat. Brilliant back-up from customer support to should you need help or spares. No screen behind the camera but you can view the footage on your mobile phone if you download it. Great value. I've not gone to the trouble of hiding the wiring but the kit includes a tool to tuck the wires into the lining should you want to. Quite reasonable 1030 HD images.

  15. Having owned a N54 powered BMW and tunned it to run at double the factory turbo boost pressure I fully appreciate the need for maintenance :). The IS300H is on a different level interms of both mechanical stress and maintenance, we have no plans to sell the IS till it falls apart which I suspect will be never!!

  17. Good advice, but before ordering anything, you'll have to make sure you have an independent garage that is willing to fit customer-supplied parts. Many will refuse to do so.

  20. Right…the director of the wheel refurbishing business, examined with me the broken TPMS and in fairness to him, I had to agree that the batteries in the part are not made to last forever 7-10 years. So, I pointed me in the direction of a company he uses and offered to pay for them to supply and fit a replacement TPMS which would be a clone from the existing TPMS. The job was completed this morning to my satisfaction. The wheel refurbishing people have footed the bill. After fitting the part, the warning light on my dash went off almost immediately. So, all sorted now. The technician has held onto the original part, because he told me that they never put them back inside the customers car as the part can interfere with the new TPMS. Not something I’ve ever thought about. Strange, but true. He told me that should the cloning method ever be required again, it will have to be done from the original part. A member of my family will pick it up in his car to avoid any problems. He added that the cloning method has become far less expensive than replacing an original sensor, which can vary in cost. As long as it works for the for a few years, I’ll be happy. Thanks for all replies and interest.

  21. Only the smallest detail at the mo, in relation to my rear pads seeming a bit worn (nearside has cut a groove into the disc and was scarping before that, so I'll happily guess it's the pads worn). Bagged myself an original Lexus disc set from ebay for the handsome price of £57 (£270 the pair on OUQ parts). Was chekcingout the weights of thw various top end discs online - Textar, Brembo etc - and they were recorded as 6kg each. Weighed in the original Toyota disc just now and 5.7kg... Result!! Though I understand/appreciate it's better to have more weight at the rear wheels for snow/traction. The cheaper Delphi/Blueprint types seemed to be showing up at 11kg, but that may have been for the pair! Pads ordered (JapCarParts) and will get em all sorted in the coming weeks. Hopefully it'll sort my slightly sticky handbrake too!

  22. My short lived Rear screen didn't last twenty four hours. I had a restless night and the neighbour telling my wife "sorry I have bad news for you" I heard whilst still in bed and guessed the worst. Postman tells me that a Glass Door at a Community Centre has been smashed and a Garden Wall knocked down in our Millenium Square. Have I heard from the Rozzers? No. Have I seen a patrol Car? - no. Vandalism running rife. Just wonder what will happen when I have replaced the Glass with my "Cabriolet" style rear screen? A different Window smashed or a blade taken to the Canvas? Its very disheartening to say the least. S'pose I'll have to invest in CCTV rather than the Dummy I have on the House.

  24. I had a non OEM windscreen fitted by Autoglass two years ago. Work was carried out at my home. No problems with the new screen, everything works as before and the quality of the work was excellent.

  25. I've had two new windscreens fitted to my IS 300h over the years - neither Lexus branded - both have performed the same as the original OEM screen in both the sensors and noise. TBH the bigger issue is how good the fitters are...!

  27. Well - and this my personal opinion - if I’ve understood you correctly, that’s £1300 for 1 main and 2 intermediate services, plus 3 MOTs, by Lexus-trained mechanics using Lexus approved parts. All guaranteed by Lexus and at a fixed price for three years. That sounds like a reasonable deal to me. In fact it sounds so reasonable that I have been on just such a three year deal, renewed every three years, with Lexus MK ever since I bought my car from them. In return I feel that the Dealer reciprocates my commitment to them and responds with an excellent level of service. But that’s just my personal experience! 😊

  28. I went from an NX300h to an RX450h+ and haven't looked back. Yes, the RX is bigger and this brings with it a larger boot space which is what we wanted. As for manoeuvrability, I haven't had any issues so far, especially with the cameras for tight spots. It does overhang some of the smaller parking spots, especially in supermarket carparks but nowadays cars in general are much larger and parking spaces haven't kept up. Given that, my wife hasn't driven the RX and I think she will find it a little on the large size when she does. She didn't have a problem driving the NX. Would I go back to the NX300h, well no but I haven't really experienced, other than test drives, the NX450h+. Overall, I'm very happy with the RX450h+ and wouldn't hesitate to purchase again but that would also depended on what cars, Lexus or otherwise, were available that I liked at the time.

  29. I understand about comparing the Rc f to the the 300h in terms of price but the biggest difference between the 2 is the insurance premiums...the 300h is 32 and the Rc f is around 50 which is a massive difference between 2 massive different cars

  30. I have been having a close look at mine today, i can see a couple of mounting points one on the front of the inner engine bay and one on the inner wing that a metal bar / plate could go across to prevent the headlamp wires from being unplugged , i will get a soft steel strap to get the shape right then will get something stronger made. Something else i considered whilst under the bonnet is removing a relay i will be looking at diagrams to see which one would stop the car starting or being used.

  33. Parked it on a flat surface. Headlights to OFF position. No auto. Press power button twice (no feet on pedals) to get to IGN ON. Check fuel level / to determine number of clicks. Press power button once to turn car off. Press power button twice (again no feet on pedals). Pull stalk toward you (full beams) and hold. Whilst holding, rotate headlight on switch to on (see video above from 2:45) and off 3 times. Once done, headlight levelling indicator on cluster will flash on and off. It’s expecting your further input. Then rotate lights to ON (dipped) and off the required number of times depending on fuel level. After that the cluster will be flashing like mad, a little haywire. Switch car off and done. Took a few goes. Watch the video and read instructions. You'll soon get it! My thought is that the headlight positioning may need adjusting after 12v disconnected. Last time I did this (new battery June 2020) it was on a slightly downward facing driveway. Hence my lights aiming lower. Just a thought. No technical knowledge to back this up mind.

  34. Doesn’t the Service Plan also include Intermediate Services? Servicing is either done on a mileage basis or annually, after all. Your Service Plan also protects you from any price increases over the three year period. Logically, a car doesn’t really get cheaper to maintain as it gets older. In many cases it’s quite the reverse - it’s just that owners spend less because it’s equated to the diminishing value of the car. Of course a good local independent may be just as competent, although may lack the Lexus support material, tooling and information. This may be less significant for an older car.

  35. An excellent start! I fitted my BlackVue camera with their Power Magic Pro - a device that connects the camera to the battery and supplies power when the ignition is off. It monitors the battery charge so that if it drops below a pre-set level, it disconnects the camera to preserve the battery. Most good cameras will offer a similar system. https://blackvue.co.uk/products/power-magic-pro/ Waste of money. I would agree with Linas about that. It’s an inefficient and clunky system at the best of times. I don’t think Lexus support the system any more anyway. I once contacted an independent that claimed to offer an SD update - they failed to respond to two emails, so I gave up on them. In fact I use my far superior Garmin system and others rely on very efficient apps on their smart phones. Quite why a company that can source Mark Levinson audio can’t buy in a decent satnav is one of Life’s automotive mysteries.

  36. Welcome 🙂 Do you have 2 keys or just the one? I'm sure you're worrying over nothing, but you could maybe put the key in the centre console and just watch the person whilst they work. Should only take about an hour at most. £410 to update the maps? Sheesh, I would put that on hold indefinitely. When I first got my car I was told it would be circa £200 and I was loathe to pay that much. Better off using free apps like Google maps or Waze.

Pop a note thru your Cctv neighbours door so he gets it Wednesday when he returns maybe …… I’d bring private prosecutions if the Police refuse to act ……. this is so damnably AWFUL If you can’t prosecute and the Police refuse to act then report it to Social Services, the local Council, County Council maybe too …… these vandals need rounding up and severely punishing Oh I forgot, they’re Mental Health victims needing compassion counselling and a breakaway to DisneyLand whatever to repair their tiny minds ……. don’t worry, you’ll pay whatever as the taxpayer 🥵 So infuriates me Malc

  43. That’s ridiculous I feel your pain. Yes 1977 is my birth year, so still in the sweet spot of not too young or old. My dad has seen similar hikes due to his age. In fact, I experimented with adding him as a named driver to see if it affected the premium for the better (in the past it had and meant he could always use my car if needed) but this time round adding him would have taken the premium to well over £600!
