  1. As you’re leasing then the residual won’t be of any concern - if your primarily doing only 150 miles a week then range isn’t a concern. Will you have a home charger - if so, then the RZ will be a great car providing the lease payments are competitive. The recent software update (which a new car will have) have improved the range drop in using the ac / heating so a lot of the early reviews and particularly the What Car review are not as relevant. As a buyer rather than a leaser’ I very much regret getting an EV when I did - I wouldn’t if getting one now ! If you keep to about 60 - 65 on a motorway you may squeeze 200 miles without a charging stop. Charging is fairly rapid, actual world on a 150kw charger really is less than 30 minutes from 20% to 80%. You’ll read a lot about cars having say 250kw charge capacity but the overall average over a charge is always far below that so the actual time saved is say maybe 10 mins. For your mileage I would say if you want to go full EV (no doubt tax will be a major consideration on a company car) then the RZ would be a good car.

  2. The only downside to getting this car at such a good price is that I keep thinking something is going to go wrong……. Despite now having clocked up 750 miles and an MOT qualified mechanic telling me it’s in great order. 😉 I do indeed ‘get it’ now and can’t believe word hasn’t got out. These cars are fantastic fun and great value for money.

  4. You could just ask for a regas, that may well fix the issue. Best thing with air con is to leave it on all the time, otherwise seals etc can dry out.

  5. Got to have the mindset that this is the equivalent of £100k car in todays money. Also....will a £100k car bought today last 20 years? I think not!

  6. Looks like this is the closest thread I could find on the topic, fitted Toyota Harrier skirts and front lip to the olde sofa on wheels yesterday. Actually like it more than I thought I would!

  8. Lexus fitted front and rear cameras to my NX450+ and I never had a problem with DAB or indeed anything else.

  9. Replacing the timing belt is the insurance policy you don’t get a 5-10k destroyed engine . Owners are just playing Russian roulette if it’s over due. With used SC430’s it’s finding the balance between a totally neglected model to ones that only ever seen a main dealer for everything. Gary’s example was one they stands out to me, very low price paid yet only needed servicing etc 👍🏻

  10. I’ve started looking for something to replace my is300 I have had for 10 years. Drawn up a similar list to everybody else. LBX, CHR, Corolla, CX 30, Honda Civic Quite liked the LBX but expensive in Takumi spec, CHR not sure about the interior and not a fan of flush door handles. Liked the CX 30 in Takumi spec but mate has just got one and it seems a bit thirsty. Civic similar size to my IS but not sure the build quality is as good as the doors felt a bit tinny. There are compromises to be had with all of them from boot size that will fit golf clubs and trolley in to rear seat space and dealer proximity. Out of all of them my favourite is my IS300 it’s a shame Lexus stopped it as a modern version would probably have been my choice.

  12. Our 2015 NX will play 128GB formatted with fat32. I suspect it's the filesystem type that is preventing it playing. Modern versions of windows can't format fat32 in large filesystems so you need a third party program. Paul

  14. I've got front and rear cam's and not had any interference. I do recall a thread a year or so ago where some people did have a problem (if I've remembered correctly). That some have had a problem and others haven't could be because some took the wiring down the near-side and others took it down the off-side maybe.

  15. I would love to own a LS400 as I have heard so much about it but sadly will have to pay 12.50 a day to drive it here in London. Should have done it sooner!

  16. Yes it will until it is 6 years old I believe.

  17. Supposed be really good that, would have it on a new car but not my old car, too expensive. Guy at work just paid £250 to have it done on his new motor from the dealer. Think the salt on the roads recently has exasperated the issue. Never seemed so bad last year. Aluminium hates salt water. Remember having a new motorbike years ago and going out one day in winter without cleaning it off afterwards properly. The aluminium swingarm looked a mess, like pitting from the salt.

  20. It's not about the cat's being stolen now, the opportunist thief has found electric car charging cables a more profitable target. The Smart water is probably the best deterrent in stopping attempted theft of keyless locking cars, that are taken to chop shops and sold as spare parts etc, these numbers are increasing year on year as spare part prices increase by large amounts. As said previously they will no longer take delivery of smart water marked/ registered cars. It's almost impossible to get Land Rover Insurance in London at present even with full NCB. The Ct200h might not be high on their shopping list but my Insurance premium is now suffering the consequence of Car Insurance company losses. The safer we all make our cars regardless of make or model from being stolen, hopefully the less the impact on our premium will be.

  22. Well, I do have a suggestion, Sean, but it depends on how much you want to spend on a 14 year-old car. Look for a good local Detailer and have a ceramic finish applied. I did it on my 2015 IS250 over three years ago. It turned out to be a three day process but the results were excellent and road dirt, bird lime and such like are easy to remove. In fact, a heavy rainfall does the washing for me! You can see the initial results on my LOC page.

  23. Check out this site/page https://www.amayama.com/en/catalogs/lexus/is300h/3-sedan-left-xe30-2016-r-3951/body-and-interior-3/package-tray-panel-luggage-compartment-mat-221 It should tell you exactly which river/part number you need. But ... what i don't get it is, the bootliner has multiple rivets. Just take one and measure the dimensions and you'll know if the ones you find are the right size.

  24. Forgot to add, just in case anyone miatakenly drops by the thread whilst exploring maintenance bits on their LS430. The discs were very very worn. Down to about 10mm whenthe minimal spec is 14.5mm I believe (according to some etching on the new original discs). When removing the rear discs, the parking brake/drum brake may have cut a groove inside the disc inner face. You'd want to back off the parking brake by aligning the hole (at 9 o clock and 3 o clock respectively on either side) and finding the little tightening rotor inside. Then use a flat head screw driver to get in the hole and loosen it slightly (don't forget to retighten in reverse and finding the optimal engagement). Here's a little diagram I made explain which side is righty tighty and which is righty loosy!

  26. I am in a similar position after test driving the LBX, a beautiful car, but my wife found the passenger seat to be so uncomfortable we are forced to look elsewhere. Yaris Cross felt a poor relation after the LBX (though maybe the new Premiere Edition might be better). Mazda CX-30 felt gutless and I missed the power of a turbo at lower revs, had to really rev the Mazda to get it to go! Not a fan of the CH-R looks, felt I should be 30 years younger to admire it!!!! Now booked a test drive in a 1.5 litre VW T-Roc tomorrow, a quick sit in a neighbours entry level T-Roc proved the seats were okayish so hoping the top models leather seats are better. Mini Countryman and Volvo 40 are really much bigger than we need, how can they still call it a Mini when it’s nearly 4.4 metres long? Any other ideas welcomed.

  27. Not sure if you were talking about F Sport trim specifically, but in terms of the UX.. Lexus have sold approx 23k UX (hybrid & Ev) vs 34k CTs, 89k IS, 41k NX, and 61k RX in the UK. Some of those will have been scrapped by now, but, I suspect perspective may be skewed slightly in terms of what you’re noticing on the road! The UX (hybrid & EV combined) was (just) the best selling Lexus in the UK in 2021, 2022 and 2023 - around 1 in 3 Lexus cars sold those years. However, it was only just the best selling model - the new generation NX (hybrid & plugin) was only a couple of hundred units behind the UX in each of 2022 & 2023

  28. No, EVs are the opposite - they are efficient at low speed but are worse at high speed due to wind resistance.

  29. That has nothing to do with key feature, although there is such feature on most Lexus cars since 2001 or so. However, I doubt you held unlock button for 5 seconds without noticing it, whilst also being withing ~50m from the car. This happens when your windows are not "initialised". Happened to me once, what was worse it was sunny summer day with about 30 minutes of freak heavy shower in the middle and windows opened exactly during that shower - just my luck! So the car was all wet. And also my master windows switch worked despite replacing battery, but it was definitely not properly initialised. Basically after batter is replaced, or disconnected and reconnected one has to re-initialise all windows. If this is not done then all windows can randomly open like that. Door should not unlock to be honest, but my bets are still on windows initialisation problem rather than somehow pressing unlock button for 5 seconds on the key. Below shows how you initialise all windows:

  31. Hi Christine and welcome to the LOC. There is a remote key fob function that will do this I.e. wind down all your windows and open the sun roof. IIRC ( check this in your owner’s handbook) you need to press and hold the unlock button. I wonder if you accidentally pushed the button as you walked away and put the keys in your pocket or bag? The other option is did you try and open the car from a distance on your return and pressed the unlock button several times or for a longer press than normal? Obviously keep an eye on it.
    1 point
  32. This is most likely a "feature" of the smart key where holding the unlock button for a period of time will unlock the doors and then open all windows and the sunroof. Holding the lock button will close them. This becomes a problem if you accidentally sit on the unlock button when the keys are in your pocket for example - my bets are on this. If you can rule this out by trying it yourself then I'm not sure of the issue.

  33. Firstly on a like for like model basis the differential in mrrp between the NX and the RX is nearer £12k. I have just taken delivery of a RX450h+ after 6 years with initially a NX300H followed by a NX450h+. I wasn't really contemplating changing my car as I was well satisfied with the NX450h+ which was 2 years old with c19000 miles on the click but was invited by the dealership to a sales event in February. If an attractive deal was available on a NX450h+ f-sport I would be interested but only with the correct colour/trim and accessory options. Unfortunately nothing was available from UK stock but as I was about to exit the showroom I sat in a RX and was suitably impressed. With an attractive finance package, manufacturers and dealership discounts and incentives the cost difference against an equivalent NX was less than £20 per month! So that aside, in answer to your question you get a bigger car (strangely looks and feels much, much bigger than the fairly minimal extra dimensions in comparison to the NX), a quieter, more refined cabin, more comfortable seats (possibly the same very comfortable seats of the NX but with extra padding), superior ride thanks to the longer wheelbase more presence on the road and styling that sets it apart. It also gives a panoramic roof option which wasnt available on the NX450h+. The NX is a fantastic car and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend however the RX is a Lexus that truly wafts along the road and if the 5th generation of this range can replicate the longevity and quality of the previous incarnations then this 5th generation Lexus RX is worth every penny.

  34. Certainly no sign of anything untoward round the bumper on mine. I just gave it a thorough wash a few days ago and would have noticed any marks/damage. As I say, a photo o anything you've noted would helpful. Thanks
    1 point
  35. They have to remove the front bumper so there is the possibility of damage, same as when any work is undertaken. But I would expect the dealer to be liable for any damage.
    1 point
  36. You would get a little more boot and interior space 😉 On paper it is a little difficult to justify the price difference between the two these days. Yes the RX is a nicer place to be with a slightly higher spec and improved sound insulation but the main difference used to be the drivetrain and they are the same now (with the NX improved and the RX worse without it's V6).

  37. When my car system required me to login every 3 days or so I really regretted my long password. My lexus dealer had no idea how to change the password and strongly advised against using the option to reset to factory state in the settings. Fortunately the system is now working properly.

  41. Pad material deposited on the discs can cause a brake judder. A couple of hard stops from speed can remove this but depending on driving style and where one drives can cause a build up again. When you say 'new front brakes' what exactly did you change? If you replaced the discs you may have introduced some dirt or rust between the disc and hub mounting face. The smallest amount can cause a very bad judder. The mounting faces must be scrupulously clean. I'd recommend getting a good garage to check over the brakes, if it is that bad a quick test drive by the technician will illustrate the problem.

  42. Just did it for a day and drive around 70miles, 2.5bar front and 2.4bar rear. The car feels better, steering is sharper and less spongy but still comfortable. Mpg doesnt change but the road feed back is satisfying. Gonna keep this configuration.

  44. I agree with you 100% and not the OP, 5 weeks ago I traded in my 2015 39Kmls 1.3ltr Yaris Icon for a 2018 Lexus CT. in my opinion these two cars at at opposite ends of the spectrum, the Yaris was a good clean little Car in fantastic condition but it was like driving around with a pail of loose nuts and bolts lying on the floor it was full of rattles and the music system had to be on low as it caused a lot of vibration to the dash when the low bass notes were played. Doing 70mph in this in 6th gear it would feel like is was in 4th with the revs being well above 3K, often I would inadvertently try and shift this into 5th when it was already in 6th. I'm sure I suffer from PTSD after owning this car, even my friends are telling me I am looking a lot better since getting rid of it? Now the Lexus is a very luxurious car in comparison, very comfortable and quiet, to me it feels like a much larger car than the small hatch that it is, turning up the music to an uncomfortable listening level and there is no adverse vibration with the car. doing 70mph once up to speed the revs drop from 3K to just above 2K unless you hit an incline which then raises it a little. If I was to say anything bad about this that would be that it is a little stiff (good on the corners) and not absorbing going over speed bumps and potholes but not really uncomfortable and not what I would term as being harsh? overall I would suggest this has a very well built interior and not as described by the OP? Having owned a few sturdy well built cars, Volvo 240, 740 and 940 plus an EX Honda Accord I would say this Lexus compares to any of them as far as build quality is concerned and I am very pleased to have it.

  46. For a healthy charged battery to go flat overnight, there has to be a decent parasitic load. Something like a light, fan, fuel or water pump, or screen heater. Most of these loads will either shut down automatically or sound a warning when you exit the car. So the only suggestion I can come up with is to carefully check around the car using eyes and ears to see if you can detect anything that continues to operate after you have shut down the car. Cheers...

  47. I did get a low battery message one of the times I pushed the EV button - the other times it said - Not Available. I'll test it some more.

  48. Yeah, this. My insurers required a Tracker so I added an immobiliser for an extra £100, plus a windscreen sticker instead of flashing leds, plus I use a Milenco steering wheel lock when away from home. Not a deal breaker but be aware extra security is essential for peace of mind. Sounds like you know exactly what you're after stating a 17/18 model - the pre GPF exhaust! They're utterly fantastic cars, you won't be disappointed.

  49. Unless you are David Beckham or have a company Lexus, I don't think anyone can afford £150+ per hour labour charges, I have a fault on my Rav 4 and 3 main dealers could not tell what the fault actually is!! I read of one person who had his car in a dealer for 5days before they discovered a loose connector on the ecu plug, we all love our Lexi and know they are special, but to a competent technician they are no different to work on than any other car! Just my opinion 🤷 Stew

  50. Juan Thornes the administrator of the Facebook Group Lexus SC430 Club UK posted this last month which seems like a good deal and might be of interest to someone needing this done. “Evening all! Lexus Sheffield after sales director Gary Hudson called me this morning to say that the £499 cambelt and water pump replacement including labour and coolant offer will have to end due to price inflation on parts and sundries. Good news!!! Lexus Sheffield will still offer all Lexus SC430 Club UK members the same excellent offer with a slight increase to £599. This £100 increase is still GREAT bargain. Take advantage of this wonderful offer and also book you SC or any other Lexus vehicle in for a service with Lexus Sheffield. Thank you all. Iooking forward in see you all at this year's workshop and car show in June. Best wishes. Juan.
