My long awaited parcel turned up yesterday Heard good things about these products on dark coloured cars. gave the car another going over with the clay mit beforehand Completed one panel at a time as I've never used poorboys products before. i usually would have gone over the car with meguires scratch x beforehand but time was short so a carried on with the glaze and the wax. I have to say that these are the easiest detailing products I have ever used, goes on really easily and comes off with a single wipe, no residue or dust was left even when I was a bit heavy handed with the application! I was amazed how little I used to do the whole car. The black hole glaze gave the paint a nice deep depth. the nattys black wax gave the car a real wet look. In the words of my wife 'wow, I didn't think you could make it any shinier!' Really pleased I gave them a try, will definitely be using there products in the future. not the cheapest but well worth the money, I don't think you'd be disappointed. Who knows what will happen, but I think IS-Fs have got a fair way to fall yet. Like others have said, I don't see that the RCF / GSF offer much over the IS-F, but also, what does the IS-F offer over the RCF / GSF?

Ronaldo thatll never happen. A 2008 car no matter how well looked after is still a 2008 car, and in two years will fall outside main dealer warranty. the isf offers four practical seats the Rcf offers two, for that reason alone the market must diminish massively. i can't afford either regardless...

Had windscreen replaced today at national windscreens, they showed me the old one and confirmed definitely the source of the leak, LH and LH bottom corner had not attached itself at all with the bonding material. I was pretty confident it was this but always good to have your thoughts confirmed once and for all. Also said the previous fitter didn't install the rain sensor stuff properly and asked if I had problems with auto wipers not working as they should - of which I had, so they sorted tghat too - Top service. Now just one rear tail light gasket remaining that I'm awaiting part for and she's all done!

As some of you are aware, Lexus currently have an approved 2013 IS-F on sale for £37,975 and an approved 2015 RC-F on sale for £35,750. A lot of people here are talking about the possibility of the IS-F starting to rise a little or, at least, level off from a depreciation perspective. I guess that would lead us to believe that there'll soon come a point where a well cared for, reasonably low miles, 2008 IS-F will cost the same as the equivelant 2015 RC-F. It doesn't seem logical - but, then again, neither does paying more for a car that's 2 years older at this stage of it's life, i.e. both less than 4 years old (where both started off at a similar price). What are your thoughts?

That is true, but not at the high-end of the price. Definitely, IS-F will start to level out at the bottom end, my prediction is that it will drop to around £7000-8000 from where it will start to rise. But one on sale for £37k will depreciate greatly... dealership might have a luxury of keeping it for sale at that price, but now imagine if anyone would buy it... They would loose £10k the same second they step outside of the dealership - which explains why that car will not shift soon. As well nobody compares car prices by comparing the cheapest of the kind with the most expensive of the kind... you need to look to average of each and you will see that there is firm £15k gap in between, I am sure it will stay there for long time. Similar, trends can be seen when you look to different generation of any car e.g. BMW M3 e46 and e92, you can find e46 for as much as £17k and you can find e92 for as cheap as £14k. That again is beyond me why would anyone buy e46 for 17k, while they can get e92 cheaper, same here - nobody will buy that IS-F for the stated £37.975, yet nobody can stop dealership for advertising it at that price. RC-F loosing value fast is good sign for any of us who want any "F's", because that drives prices down not only for other RC-F, but as well for GS-Fs and IS-Fs, that is obviously not that great news for current owners. But again average RC-F price of £45k doesn't threaten average IS-F owner investment at ~£25k... it might only impact certain group of the cars e.g. that particular IS-F example which is currently in dealership... lets face it dealership has just lost £10k by accepting this high risk "end-of-life", but considering their standard margins they still going to make profit even selling it £20k at loss. Same would apply to any private owner who was stupid enough to pay £37k for 2013 IS-F, instead of paying £37k for 2015 RC-F.

RC-F has pretty much turned out to be a sales flop, it seems to have really missed its target audience, the RC300h and 200t maybe a different story. My thoughts on the IS-F are a little different.

@emjay82 From a personal standpoint coupled with having a healthy mistrust of insurance/warranty companies I've never been prepared to give them even the slightest get out clause as a result of something I've done. The components on these cars are very expensive and to void the cover just because I want to modify something is a non runner for me, if I've still got her when she's no longer warrantable that's a completely different matter. I got no motorways either John, not 1 in our county and a good hour plus to get to closest in neigbouring county, so know what you mean (we only got a handful of decent dual a roads lol). I can see the sport being better on fuel as in normal, when accelerating gently the meter is very low anyway, circa 10/15 mpg, but in sport it drops lower, say to 10ish, but your off the acceleration much soon as get to speed far quicker, thus less overall and more off pedal coasting following the acceleration. However, when i found the difference, it was my right foot that caused the issues, as got over excited and took every opportunity to stab it quick. I must have a word with it and charge rent if it keeps it up 😃 averaged 16 on a bit I normally get 30 on, oups.

After months of truly miserable weather that ALWAYS seemed to coincide with my days off, I finally got the weekend I'd been craving. So I gave my car the first proper clean its had since its been in my ownership. Not a full detail, but I'll hopefully get a chance to do the stuff next week that I didn't have time for today. Products used were mostly old favourites that have been in my kit for a while, but new to me was Autoglym's new flagship Ultra High Definition shampoo. Like their other HD products, its quite pricey but with the current Halfords offer plus LOC discount, it cost me £12-odd for a bottle which isn't too bad because it's really good and well worth the money IMO. Anyway, as my aching limbs will attest, I spent about 6hrs in total washing, claying, polishing & waxing. The fact I was doing everything in direct sunlight made the job more time-consuming and harder work than it should've been, but I don't care. The end result was very satisfying. John My advice is for all things that are not broke don't try to fix them it usually ends in tears.

Job done, started climbing at 4:30, got to top at 5:50. wind was around 40+mph a fair bit of ice and snow near summit, brilliant sunrise. Photo of my son taking photos for college project wrapped up like an Eskimo. My camera does not do the scene any justice. Bought new head torches for trip, well worth doing, and about 10 other people were up there to see it. I managed to keep up with my son on the climb up, but my knees ached all day Sunday, but determined not to let getting close to 60 get in the way of some darned fine views to be had around the UK.

I had a decent drive this weekend, so fiddled with the combos of these buttons. Sport definitely made a difference to throtal response, and not that mild, it's noticeably sharper and more eager to shoot off. Id go as far as saying, from normal to sport made more difference than going from sport to sport plus power. Apart from using more fuel, it's a button that should always be on. I'll be using it more now 😆

Was thinking just the other day, if the roar from the second intake kicked in slightly earlier, you would get some of the thrill in city driving 30/40mph and increase the fun whilst day to day driving, rather than having to wait for a national speed limit road.

Yep, although with exhaust prices from £500 + to give that better V8 sound, it can be achieved. Lexus are the King's of understated and conservative motors but why on earth was it not stock...nuts 😕

Hi big rat . I'm not sure if there are any gains in bhp. I would possibly give it a dyno . They reckon it performs better with a cat back . I added mine just for the sound . And it seems to work well with the exhaust.

I have recently had fitted a Blackvue dashcam in my IS300h. My prime reason for this is to ensure that I have some protection should anything happen in front of me but it also highlighted some interesting views of a Lexus Bristol engineer today when it went in for an intermediate service today. First to put some context to this story. A couple of miles into the journey to the showroom I noticed the paddles would not work as normal and it would not go from drive into S mode. A short distance later I had the warning flash up 'Hybrid System Has Stopped. Please Stop Your Car in a Safe Place' I did this and turned the engine off. It restarted OK then I carried on my journey. Now, something to point out here is that I was low on fuel. The display indicated I had about 30 miles left. I have been as low as 7 miles and haven't seen this behaviour before. I realise I should probably not let it get too low on fuel and most of the time I don't. Anyway back to the point of the post. I informed the service dept of this occurrence on arrival which was duly noted down on the paperwork for checking. I have reviewed the camera footage recorded during its service and at one point my engineer summons another to discuss the notes written on the paperwork about the warning message that flashed up earlier. He points out that there is an engine management code - Fuel Run Out - but no hybrid system code. When he hears about the paddles not working he find it highly amusing - "thats **** ridiculous because they don't do nothing. That's just **** about with the ECU. It doesn't make the car go any different, it's a computer game. All this (obviously pointing out the paddles to his mate........) doesn't do anything. It's a total illusion, it tells the machine 'oh he wants to **** play or make it sound like he's changing gear'. It doesn't do **** all." I am fully aware that the paddles do not change gear and that they are purely frequency steps in a CVT unit. I use it akin to some engine braking to avoid unnecessary periods of dabbing the brake pedal. My point was that they were not working AT ALL. Anyway back to our engineer (whose first name is mentioned but I won't reveal it here). He goes on to say, "the trouble is these ***** think its electric.... (at which point my engineer quickly indicates the existence of the dashcam!) ....the trouble is they think it's electric and fuel and if they run out of fuel they can carry on with electric, they can't, they work in conjunction with each other" The other says, "so it needs fuel basically" followed by a chuckle. Again I am fully aware of the basic workings of the hybrid system. I do not expect the engine to keep working without any petrol in it. I am happy to accept that the indicated code probably had something to do with the issue but I did not totally run out of fuel. After I had restarted the engine I travelled a few more miles to get to the showroom. I repeat I did not install the dashcam to nosey in on engineers who service my car but I guess I was curious. Anyway my curiosity has discovered that one particular engineer at Bristol thinks this particular Lexus owner is as thick as ****! Now do I mention it when Lexus ask me for feedback on my service experience? I'm pretty thick skinned but to be called a ****** and basically clueless has ****** me off a little! Having posted this Ive just noticed the foul language is edited out. Rightly so probably but suffice to say one of the foul words he likened me to was the worst. You know the one I mean.

I noticed that M4 prices are dropping pretty fast. Interestingly, the most expensive M3 (V8) is going for more than the cheapest M4.

At last, so good to hear that the screen was an issue. A bonus that they fixed your rain sensing wipers too.

I find in sport mode on rural country roads my fuel consumption actually improves. I do a 50 mile trip on a regular basis over the last 28 years so I know every twist and turn along with the potholes, and hidden overtaking places. In sport mode I can use around 2 MPG less than in normal mode. In the year that I have owned the car I have never been on a motorway with it. This is simply because there are no motorways close to where I live. John

OK, we all know that the Silver ISF is the fastest variety. Stick that driving god @Big Rat behind the wheel and you've got a formidable weapon. Balance that up with my driving abilities, and on average, Silver ones are no faster than others!!!

the costs are absolutely criminal coz the strips are about twopenneth worth of metal ! Those prices look about right from what I was quoted. The new windscreen I had fortunately the strips could be re-used ok, the insurers were very unhappy should they have been called upon to pay for the trims too...... they actually told me to make sure the fitters took huge care to leave the existing in re-usable condition.

I was amazed to find a local scrappy this morning (not 10 mins away) who told me he had a knackered caliper bracket with both bolts in place. Said I could have the bolt if I wanted it, just remove it myself..................... for nowt. Wow and double wow ... what a stonkingly good chap!!!!! The tricky part now will be getting the part-sheared off end out of my carrier on the car. That's next Saturday's job sorted then. Thanks again for the offer John, you are a true gent.

Thanks, Comparing IS200 to GS300 - well GS wins every time :) Since IS200 I've had Mercedes E220 (W211), Jag S-Type, Two company cars (Audi A4 S-Line & Jaguar XF) and finally Chrysler Crossfire so don't remember much of my IS200.

Looks great. Since discovering g-technique c2 v3 I have never looked back! It is spray on and buff off and takes me 20 minutes to do the whole car. It can also be applied to glass and plastic. It's used by pro detaikera and lasts for 6 months with one coat. Epic stuff.

Even silver isn't 400kg lighter and 100hp more powerful...

Treated myself to a similar gadget, will be testing a few camera angles this week. Hopefully we will get some great footage /photos between us.

Don't get me wrong - I love IS-F but I didn't find the video representative of.... actually anything. F430 Scuderia is lightened version of exotic sports car weighting 1300kg and with 510hp.... I don't think it is great car and honestly I would take IS-F instead if I have to make choice between two. IS-F is propped-up luxury saloon with 423hp and weighting 1700kg, great and "almost" practical car, but on track has no chances against even standard F430. It is quite obvious that F430 driver is rookie and has no balls or is simply warming up... hard to say much about IS-F driver.. Anyway if that is video of 2 friends having fun on the track then yes... I appreciate it. But it is not representative of the cars as they are so far apart... maybe I am just boring person trying to find meaning in meaningless things, which are just meant for fun..

Don't know if it's the same type of squeak and click that I had, but I found the bolts that held my driver's seat in had worked slightly loose and gave a squeak or a click at every corner. You remove the plastic cover on the front and rear end of the seat rails, and there is a bolt at each end. Mine didn't have any thread lock on them. I tightened these up with some thread lock and the problem went away...

We just bought a 1999 Lexus (our first) GS 300 with 9,324 miles on it from Carmax with paint, interior, engine, and trunk that support this is truly a very low mileage car. Our glee was dashed when the third day we owned it the "check engine" light came on. A desperate call to the local Richmond, VA Lexus dealership put me in touch with a service rep who (informing me that Carmax usually performed a thorough check) provided the following solution and explanation. He did say to FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER. With the car off as though you were at the gas pump, take the gas cap off and leave it off for 30 seconds. Replace the gas cap and TURN IT UNTIL YOU HEAR THREE CLICKS...THREE CLICKS...CLICK, CLICK, CLICK (it sounds more like crack, crack, crack). The "check engine" light should go off after you have driven the car a few more times. He added that this coud take a couple of days. The light was off the next day. Something about if the gas cap seal is not tight, it will make the car think that there is a pressure leak which will trigger the "check engine" light. Of course this means that every time you get gas you have to make sure you turn the cap until you hear at least three clicks or else the "check engine" light may keep coming on.
