  2. So I have experienced my first and so far only issue with the F. I had a pre-cat lamda sensor fail... to be specific P0031 H02S Heater Control Circuit Low Bank 1 Sensor 1 So dashboard does its Christmas tree impressions on the M6, I pull into the services to check it out, I must be one of few who carry a code reader in the car with me at all times just for interest. Find it to be the lambda so no great drama carry on my merry way. First call of course to Lexus to give them the specifics and to get a quote. £580 inc. VAT fitted. So after I picked myself up off the floor started searching and this is what I found. Denso/Toyota to a specific replacement, part no. DOX-0504 and can be found here: http://www.denso-am.co.uk/e-catalogue/ and can be bought here: http://www.sparkplugs.co.uk/denso-direct-fit-lambda-sensor-dox-0504 for £94 although I have a motorfactors around the corner from me and I paid the same through them. Looked at fitting myself but without a ramp I wouldnt recommend it. Being the pre-cat its pretty well hidden, you can get at the sensor to remove easy enough but the connection to the loom is very well hidden. I took it to a local independant and watched the process. For information at this stage Bank 1 is the bank of cylinders containing cylinder no.1 and is the passenger side of the car (I didnt know this). So they had to remove the small heat shield that sits behind the manifold to be able to get a hand up to unclip the sensor from the loom, The extension they had to use to take off this shield must have been near on 2ft. After its removal everything was easy, took them 45 mins all told. That 45 mins plus the fault clear and re-check was £60. All in a grand total of £154. Where Lexus get their figures for service items I have no idea. Anyway, this may well be useful to others in the future. Happy motoring LOC members....

  3. OK so essentially, the actual engine and hybrid setup remain the same from 2009-2015. All are 295hp regardless of trim. The facelift was in 2012 where DRL's were added. Now what the link doesn't tell you is that the shocks were changed in 2012 to give the RX a better ride and hence its probably better to go for a facelifted RX, not to mention it looks better IMO. I would say the pick of the range is the Advance from 2014 onwards in terms of value. Something I forgot to mention is that the LED lights are a must have IMO, they're awesome at night, the xenon's don't even come close. Also be aware that the Premier has air suspension. AFAIK, there's not been many failures on 450h but they cost a bomb if they go. The ride is not much more different either so not really worth moving to a Premier for the air suspension alone. The F-Sport is great as it has the heads up display. It has lateral dampers to reduce vibration but the PDF doesn't mention that it also has stiffened suspension. It rolls a lot less compared to the other models and I got it because it looks better and comes with decent handling. I felt the other RX's rolled a bit too much. The PDF also doesn't mention that the Premier has semi-aniline leather i.e. it requires a lot more care and its rather delicate compared to the leather used in other trim levels.

  4. Replaced the rear section, custom build by Infiniti Exhausts near Bath, doesn't sound too bad I think.

  5. Hi, my wifes CT 200h F-sport needs new tyres... again! we live in Milton Keynes which has quite a few roundabouts and we're only getting around 10,000 miles out of the fronts before they need changing due to outer edge wear. Thats the worst although across the whole tyre it's not particularly great. It has Bridgestone AE50's on it (which is what it was supplied with) wondered about other people's experiences, particularly from a wear perspective thanks Andy

  9. You are in closed loop, the vehicle hasn't switched to using the O2 sensors to adjust trim. You also need to let it complete a few drive cycles as you reset the error codes so it is showing some data as 'incomplete'. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  10. Any leather cleaner should be fine. However, because the car is new, currently its best to maintain with a damp microfibre cloth. You should only need to clean the tahara trim properly with a leather cleaner once every year providing its a 10k/year car.

  11. The cats are still in place and there is no x pipe fitted, this is probably why there is such a price difference, if you want to listen to it I am not that far from you, just drop me a PM. One thing they did say was they can make alterations in the future, x pipe, cat removal etc

  12. I,ve seen plenty of lexus listed by him since the start of this thread, some saying that he was still trading, some having a pop at this site, but I don't link to him anymore, as I begrudge him the free advertising.

  15. I guess my point was that Forces often fail to differentiate between theft of / TWOC / theft from a vehicle or vehicle Interference. They tend to lump it all under the term 'Vehicle Crime' in these stats which can be very misleading. My local force is typical of this hence It's extremely difficult to differentiate between the theft of high value vehicles as in the OP's case or someone taking some wheel trims. Dumbing down crime (vehicle crime in particular) is all part of the usual Government plot to mess with the stats when it suits them. When it was necessary to make austerity cuts it was also necessary to sweep volume crime under the carpet and remove it as a priority. When they need some good news again acquisitive crime will become a priority, figures will drop and we can all clap our hands at what a marvellous job the Govt of the day are doing.

  16. So a throttle body clean could be in order if its not been cleaned in recent times.? I'd also use some Wynns Petrol Injector cleaner if you have a long journey in mind. Not saying it will solve problem but less work / expense than changing plug leads and plugs. Throttle bodies do get carbon build up and injector cleaner will improve performance.

  17. With your permission Stu, I'll be following this thread with interest. We plan our next vehicle to be an RX next May time, looking at spending £20k ish too. Did you spot the pdf tht Monte linked on one of the threads...very useful list of models, specs and dates ?

  18. clicking is odd. Is it wheel rotation speed dependant? Have you, in a nice safe way, given it a bloody good stop or two. It might not help but it is fun.

  19. Most modern cars are nicked by people snaffling keys from the kitchen via a side door or simply screwing the house. Nowadays vehicle crime isn't a priority so getting accurate figures on makes and numbers from any individual Police force is virtually impossible. The figures do exist however and trust me in the big scheme of things its not enough to lose sleep over.

  20. The lexus factory state that in the absence of the correct but expensive 0/20 oil it is permissible to use cheaper 5/30 oil. This increases fuel consumption dramatically. After my car has been serviced I have started to routinely monitor fuel consumption very closely before and after the service over the same journey. On two occasions , I have changed my own oil and found an immediate improvement of fuel consumption. I have challenged the Lexus garage about this phenomenon however they confirm that the oil used was within Lexus specification...... just as you might expect if they used the 5/30 which is specified by lexus as an alternative. I routinely buy the right oil and prepare to change it post service. This way I maintain my valuable serviced by main dealer service record and the self funded oil change repays me within 5000 miles. I have now come to regard the service oil fill simply as flushing oil. I have also most recently carried out a routine cold viscosity check of my oil by timing the flow through a full tundish and have confrimed that the Lexus supplied oil passes through the tundish slower than the 0/20 which I replace it with. I have mentioned it to the dealer once and i now know what to expect. I really dont have the time or the inclination to make any more of an issue of it. This has just confirmed my already low opinion of the motor trade in general. Its nice when I dont get ripped off;nevertheless I do expect to get ripped off all the same.Turning the clock back a couple of decades; In the case of jaguar cars, I would happily buy a car from a jaguar specialist but learnt not to buy one from a jaguar dealer at any cost.

  25. Hello! Have just driven back in the IS-F from the dealer garage after listening to the part-exchange and finance options they have. GibletPH - I wouldn't have bothered if it was a new car, I think £75k is a lot, but the one in the photo below is only 8 months old and has lost nearly £20k, so you never know - might be worth asking if they think you might buy it! emjay82/Mark - yes I totally agree about the look, Especially when I first saw it a few months ago I thought it reminded me of the old Bangle BMW 7 series (which btw I think look a bit better now than they did when they were new), and overall it wasn't a positive impression. This time, maybe I've got my lust goggles on, but I think it looks better - see the photo attached and please excuse me blocking some of the car. So... driving the IS-F again. Firstly, the seat feels too high compared to the GS-F and the steering is heavier at parking speeds, in a bad way. It's so simple with the lack of buttons and tech - there's a lot less to go wrong with it. And... I love how fun and enjoyable it is when I mash the throttle in it - the sound is boomier but it's having fun and so am I. It's nowhere near as precise or involving as the GS-F but it's not necessarily a bad thing. The GS-F is a fairly serious, pretty fast car, whereas the IS-F is like a puppy sports dog, a bit all over the place, I don't quite know what's going through it's head but it's really heart warming and makes me laugh, and is probably more memorable than the GS-F. Regarding cornering technique, late braking and throttle variation is ok in the IS-F which just tries to keep up, but the GS-F doesn't like it and needs smoother inputs, perhaps because it's heavier, but mostly I think because it's more faithfully telling you what's going on and the chassis is more precise. Also, My wife gets it spot on when she says the GS-F needs to be given a boy's name because it's so relatively aggressive and rorty, whereas the IS-F is a girl and sort of cute. The IS-F makes us both laugh when madly accelerating, the GS-F just demands respect and makes you think "good car". These things are relative of course, it's not black and white!

  26. No badges says CHAV to me I am afraid! Cars without badges do make me look twice. Hence why manufacturers have logos to identify their brand.

  28. Same here, and you can choose your local preferred fitting shop, yet keeping them at "online prices". Main problem is that when you get tires online it is usually hard time to find shop which fits them as most won't take tires from "outside". As well I would never use eBay for tires. It is huge chance to get "expired tires" which are new but out of their shelf time, some people have even reported receiving remanufactured tires... which obviously will not last.

  29. I agree with John. I personally wouldn't be happy with buying tyres off Ebay. You never can really tell what you are getting from there. Although feedback does go a long way with Ebay, so perhaps a well established seller with good feedback would be ok. The good thing in my case was that, since it was during a service and they had the tyre in stock, the whole thing was sorted within 10 minutes. Damn annoying though because that is now 2 tyres with decent amount of tread on them that I have had to replace because of cuts in the last year.

  30. In my honest opinion, your tyres are the most critical safety component on your car, the only thing connecting you to the road. for the sake of a few quid, I would stick to known retailers (blackcircle, lexus, trusted tyre dealers etc...) to ensure quality and condition you think you are getting. Ebay sounds like a risk to me, just for a few quid.
