  1. In case anyone wonders what it looks like from above. Taken from the Lexus hospitality box at Goodwood last year

  2. I've had notifications on my 56' IS250 and 2008 ISF, but only a brave man would change his route following advice from a Lexus navigation.

  3. .....but only on side light bulbs! No advisories either so that can't be bad. Strange though the way it has to be noted as a fail, even though the tester replaced the bulbs. My fault of course for not checking properly.

  4. Yes I guess that is what they called "professional or premium" sat nav on 2010+ models. Still that might work intra city, try it in London and you will realise ... there is no street without accident and as such not really good alternative routes - just one big mess. And in this mess any car build in satnav gets confused and sends you on stupid route. For example in RC300h I tried built in one against my phone and as I was returning car on weekday morning I though it would be good challenge to compare what root they would suggest. I knew were Lexus dealership is and how to get there ~20 min drive, but waze found faster route ~15 min, Lexus built in one sent me completely opposite direction and straight into the middle of traffic jam. I have not tried following Lexus route, but it given me ~55 minutes drive. To be honest haven even tried waze, simply used the route I know and it was ~15 anyway. Furthermore, to start navigation on phone and find where I want to go takes literally few seconds - to do same on satnav is like few minutes and even then it not always recognises post codes etc.

  7. Only ever bought one new car and the depreciation was about £1600 a year. The big question and one that I do struggle with, is how much to spend? My LS400 has taught be that you can go old and really still enjoy a good car with reliability. A friend bought a secondhand Peugeot 3008, around £12000 he paid. It now has clutch problems and is going to cost quite a bit of money to sort it. Trade-in he will lose a great deal. If you spend a lot, then something major goes wrong, you have little choice but to take the hit. If you buy "cheap" then you can just say goodbye without losing too much. It is a balancing act.

  8. I go with the Honda marque for good secondhand utterly reliable ( hopes ) and cheap to buy .... my 56 plate Legend with 106k miles and Full Honda Service History was a " no brainer " to purchase ...... £4k last August Likewise my Mk3 Ls400, 6 years ago at £1400 and now at 193k miles and costs nearly bugger all in annual maintenance bar simple servicing costs ........ and magical comfort, power and speed when needed and utter, utter reliability Depreciation on both cars, well, almost annualise at zero ..... and gadgets a-plenty too ............ we do about 18k miles a year on average Malc

  9. That's me too. I couldn't and wouldn't want to afford a new RX. Mine is 4 years old and reasonable mileage at 55k. My annual mileage is around 8k, so it will soon be back down to average. I'll probably keep this vehicle for 3 years and looking at typical prices, my depreciation is going to be around £2k pa. Cheap motoring for a luxury vehicle. An extra £500 pa for a Lexus extended warranty and I have controlled outgoings, just like a lease customer, but at a fraction of the cost Not much above £200 per month ! With interest rates so low, the cost of investment in my RX is virtually zero

  10. So before buying my daily car which is a second-hand 2003 1 owner Accord 2.4 Executive, I toyed with the idea of actually financing a nearly new or new Lexus. But after some further investigation researching online and few videos I decided to go with a well looked after second hand car which based on my knowledge packed pretty much anything in terms of toys/gadgets one could find in a 2017 car apart from Bluetooth connectivity, lane keeping assist and reversing camera which truth be told are gadgets I can live without. Majority of my music are still on CD’s so I don’t stream music from my phone. Having owned about 9 cars in total the youngest car I have owned was 5 years old. And I am the sort that tends to change my cars every 2.5 to 3 years so didn’t want to be locked in or keep driving the same car for the next 4 - 5 years which tends to be the average years car finance/hire contract runs for. I also couldn’t justify making monthly payments on something which is depreciating faster compared to a 5 year or older second-hand which has done most of its depreciation so not a lot to loose when reselling. Advance in auto technology has improved mpg figures and emissions which keeps road tax down on newer cars but my maths concluded the savings made on mpg and road tax will be wiped out by monthly payments towards driving the car compared to a less fuel efficient but decent older car bought outright with no monthly payments being made on it. Also came across this US article which in a way persuaded me more in my decision not to bother with financing a new/ nearly new car. http://thegarage.jalopnik.com/heres-four-reasons-why-you-should-never-ever-finance-a-1638384343 So for those who prefer new cars what’s your reason for making this decision and would you go back to an older car in future or keep financing new and for those who prefer to buy and drive second hand cars would you buy another older car or finance new and what will be your reason?

  11. Hi All, Sold my coupe e92 M3 recently and have just purchased a 2013 Lexus ISF. I needed a 4 door equivalent of the M3 but having spent over 1k on repairs in the last month on it (the dreaded throttle actuators and an ABS sensor) I decided not to even contemplate the saloon version as a replacement. Failing throttle actuators I felt was a bit of a mickey take and poor design from BMW to be using second rate components. So, after lots of reading decided the ISF was the way forward. So far very pleased and I have no regrets...looking forward to not shelling out on unnecessary repairs touch wood! If anything, the ISF seems a little dated in terms of interior design but it reminds me very much of the Honda S2000 I owned in terms of the dated design and engine that erupted once you went past a certain RPM. One little query - can the Lexus Enform software be updated to be a little more current? Can I display album art embedded in my MP3's? My M3 was 2010 and yet the software seems more current and enabled me to display album art etc. Not a major issue, but the mp3 playing from a usb is seriously slow and old fashioned. Thanks a lot

  12. Unfortunately it was ****** with rain, heavy traffic and on roads I'm not familiar with but I did manage to open it up through 2nd into 3rd a couple of times. I think it put it's power down better than my ISF but i didn't notice it feeling any quicker. I couldn't get over how distant feeling that V8 felt, not even a bit of vibration off it and very quiet. The seating position was much lower but very comfortable and the suspension made the whole car feel silky smooth. I found the dash displays overwhelming , way too much to take in plus the guy was flicking through the driving modes so I wasn't getting a chance to take it all in properly. I'd love to own one but I'd be terrified to park it anywhere, I'm bad enough with my ISF which hides in the garage most of the time. Probably why I've been thinking about replacing it with an imported FJ cruiser.

  13. Good luck mate, wait to hear before you loise faith in the brand. Plenty massive mileage motors on here still running well.

  14. Agree with the above. This is what put me off an LS600 I saw at auction a year or so back. Looked a lovely car, and was good value in the low teens. The potential was there though, for some big bills, several thousands of pounds per job. You'd have no option but to spend the money, which makes the car now seem very poor value. One important point though, if going the bangernomics route, give yourself a sporting chance by choosing Japanese....... Lexus, Toyota or Honda imo.

  15. i would remove the door panel and make sure the waterproof membrane is intact if there has been an issue inside the door the membrame may of been torn or not replaced correctly. 10 minutes to remove the door panel

  16. Thought this view look familiar, I was up there on the Saturday. I thought it looked really smart - more like a concept car than one for production.

  17. I am not mixing up the models, what I am saying is that both models offer traffic info and alternative routes across a 6 year span.

  20. I think in the last three posts the case for used is pretty well set out. -Buy quality. -Buy the lowest mileage/serviced to budget. -Buy when depreciation has sucked up VAT and forecourt drive off price. -Maintain properly either privately or dealer/warranty to best possible standard. - it's an individual decision how far you are prepared to stretch the equation. No lightening bolts really. Interesting to hear the reasons for new purchasing..... emotive and practical. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC

  21. WOW, driving along a country lane at the back of Benenden School there was another Ls400 right behind me wanting to overtake and a really strange phenomenon ........... There wasn't really a safe line of sight for him so I slowed a little and in my rear view mirror it seemed, just for a moment, that his car went into starting leopard leap mode,.... . slightly back on its haunches and nose slightly lifting as it prepared to leap past me in power acceleration mode ..... looked brilliant . I'm sure i didn't imagine it Then he held back, I turned right and off he went ............ as only a Ls400 in a hurry can Malc

  24. Don't they offer that with any used "F-car"? For me, it seems that anytime they have nearly new expensive Lexus to resale they offer either warranty deal or service deal (or both).

  25. I know where your coming from with the I8. I had a chance to get a good look at a white one the other day in the works car park and I didn't like the back end on it. Like everything it's personal preferences. They had a sonic red LC500h with alot of beige leather. Wasn't sure about the interior but the colour looked great.

  27. The first thing to do is to put the 12volt battery on charge for a short while. If the 12 volt battery is low "possibly because the doors were left open for some time" it can give rise to false warnings being given. If your 12 volt battery is the original it is at the end of it's life, and will have little capacity left. The battery is in the boot under the carpet cover on the passengers side. Try to find out if the "AG man" tried to jump start the car. John.

  28. If you are looking for some decent cheap tyres I've just had a pair of Event Semita tyres fitted at ATS for the princely sum of £137, I bought the car with these fitted already and have to say they tick all the boxes for me - good grip wet or dry, decent wear characteristics, quiet and comfortable so I replaced with the same. I have to say I've had pretty decent results from 'budget tyres' in the past and never been effected by their so called ditch finding tendencies so from experience I tend not to pay for 'name brands' any longer.
