So I was sat in the traffic in Kitt the other day the weather was quite balmy windows down, a Mondeo pulled up alongside male driver and a lad about ten years old in the front passenger seat....... look daddy that car is driving with no one in it......... it's like Kitt from Knight Rider......... father replied........ No son it's just that little short arsed old builder who lives up the road Big Rat

  3. As can be seen I'm along with others exploring the exhausts available for my Rcf whilst on there site I see that the system for the isF has been reduced to a little over £800.00, I know that a few on here have considered this system before maybe worth a second look. Big Rat

  5. As a precaution, I contacted my insurance agent who took my car with a tow truck and took it to the LEXUS garage. I spoke with the workshop manager and he will try to look at this today. To answer the various questions, the engine oil level is ok and the oil has a nice normal color, there is no mayonnaise inside the oil filler cap.

  6. Talking to Ratty the other day about Kitt - his new RC-F. He pretty much confirmed what all RC-F owners know - the RC-F gets lots of attention and comments. If passers by have commented on, or reacted to your car, please share the story here. Here's some of my favs - Whilst waiting at junction, two teenage lads walked by. Lad A said to Lad B - "Oooooo - Lexus.....................................................LOOSER!!!" Whilst driving slowly through town, a young lad said to his dad - "Daddy - that car makes my ears hurt". The dad just smiled Sat in a traffic jam. Couple in the car behind were having an argument. I blipped the throttle. The woman s*** herself, then they both immediately started laughing. Marriage guidance by Lexus Drove past a bus stop (I was in the passenger sear). About 15 school kids queued up, all heads down looking at their phones. All looked up, and syncro swivelled their heads as we went past. Joining the M5, I applied suitable pedal pressure whilst driving down the slip round. I joined in front of a family in a people carrier. Driver kept flashing me. Initially I thought he was angry, but he was actually giving it the thumbs up. I let him pass and then overtook him. He'd wound the window down just to hear a V8 Let's hear you stories - I know @Comedian has some!

  10. For what it’s worth, my uncle has a 2004 XK with 19k from new, he loves it....obviously doesn’t use it much either, just a sunny weekend car, my sister best friend has the XKR......from new, about 50k and it’s been a complete money pit, been told to get rid as it’s a car that once it starts to fail it keeps on failing, I’ve driven the F type R and found it to lift on heavy acceleration, to the point of letting off, I was in twisty lane territory of which I know very well, i don’t feel the need to lift off with the ISF but didn’t have the same confidence in the jag, only thing I really enjoyed was the sound, I definitely wouldn’t be looking at one as a replacement

  11. Much irritated this morning by a "design defect" in the RC. Upon opening the boot after a light overnight snowfall the thin layer of what I had erroneously thought to be solidly frozen flakes on the rear window slid unhindered directly into the boot as a single slab of ice. Admittedly my reaction time was a bit slow but the event was completely unexpected insofar as on the previous occasions I have had frozen snow on the car it stayed put long enough for me to reach inside the boot for my brush. The "defect", if such it is, results from the slope of the window being so flat as to prevent sliding ice from being caught or blocked by the boot drainage channel. In future, when snow is forecast, I'll keep my brush inside the cabin.

  12. I love this car but thats its....Not long back I gave this car a raving review, best looking car I've ever owned and it is..most kitted out with the multimedia ML system etc etc,,Sad to say for all its plus points in the last 6 months its become a mechanical bad dream culmitating in a large cloud of smoke with a blown turbo...Ironically due to the previous smoke issues it had which were all cured on a temporary basis I did suspect the turbo was at fault...Now the ironic bit...Given my thoughts I bought a 2nd turbo which I re-furbed ready to pop on some months ago..The smoke magically vanished then came back..replaced a few sensors ,cleaned a few usual suspects and off it went again...THEN in one almighty smokescreen on my way to nightshift (after 6 days off argh!!!!) on sat the turbo decided to dump oil thro the exhaust to the undrivable point..car was recovered home whilst I went to work..After a joyus 13hr shift I went to remove the turbo only to find on the exhaust side the nuts were rounded already...hmmm!! So thinking on my toes and having rebuit the replacement unit I relised the vane side could remain attached to the zaust and just swap the turbine side so of I went,,Soon became apparent that this wasnt the 1st time it had been done given the tell tail markings on the pipes (for re assembly) by some previous mech..still chin up off it came and the refurb one fitted (2 hr job on your own if your handy with spanners) oil/coolant topped up and up it fired..yup smoke due to the already present oil in the system but onwards and upward as this is my baby...£30 on BP's finest and set off down the motorway..revs at 2200/2500 for a good 25 mile and the smog cleared so 25 miles return, yee result...mpg at 60/65 high 40's and into the 50's at times..turbo pulling great job done...Time for bed (up for 26 hrs...worked 13hrs..2 hrs in the cold changing turbo and 80 min drive squinting in the side mirror) Oh yeah really...the rear brakes started squeeling in reverse and having just been replaced for that very reason just ended the love affair for me boo!!,,I love fixing things but i draw the line at fixing things thats been fixed at great cost so..we are getting divorced!!!so if anyone wants a divorced lovely pearl F sport before we buy your car gets it.........few pics of the doomed impeller and 1 of the shiny refurb turbine.

  13. @Womble72 wish I could bring myself to daily it everyday but I'm still super cautious about other drivers and where I park it. People see the car and my age and I just worry about the attention that brings. May I suggest an IS200 for a daily run around? Mines still a dream to drive after nearly 4 years and just under 100k that I've covered myself. Brought it of eBay for £750 at the time with 70k on the clock and just passed over 170500 the other day. Never missed abeat.. not the fastest thing but it can shift it has a nice rasp to it when it gets going and it's got all the creature comforts your expect from a Lexus.. dirt cheap too

  15. Good afternoon fellow F'ers. http://www.trdparts.jp/english/lexus/isf_ccsp.html anyone ever seen any of these parts fitted to the ISF? looks like a 2014 model was introduced in japan called the ISF CCSP.. A more track derived kit with all the carbon and aerodynamic wizardry to go with it. TRD have stopped making the parts now but when they did they came with quite a price tag, wonder if they still have some in the back room somewhere..

  22. Who would be interested in a group buy of a QUICKSILVER Cat back system for there Rcf im happy to organise it, I have spoke with Paul Goddard in the past and for 5 he will give 20% which is a fair chunk but I fully accept they are still not cheap. Now one member on here has this on his car and it's very good nice V8 sound and no drone, check out there site, they have discontinued the valved system due to lack of demand and price was a factor no doubt. So if there's enough of us I'll negotiate stick your name on here or just pm me. Big Rat

  24. `Yeah, an RC-F is definitely on my shopping list, just have to finish my house extension first. Then I'll see if there is any money left for a car update this year. Though looking at the RC-F prices at the weekend it looks like they are getting into the territory I might be able to afford. Just need to apply some man maths to the wife...

  25. Big rat, I'm in, just need a group buy discount on an RC-F to go with it... That builders tea is expensive..

  26. I’m of the same opinion, except when it comes to exhausts and F cars. The standard sound on the ISF was lacking and the RCF is even more dull.

  28. Anyone considering an IS diesel should read this carefully! I am really questioning the sense in buying an expensive car unless you have a decent warranty. I decided to buy an older RX300, rather than the more expensive 400h. My reasoning is that If things go badly wrong, then the financial hit is not so great. My conclusion was that I could buy a lot of expensive repairs and fuel for the financial difference. If it all goes pear shaped, will let you know!

  29. Excellent stuff Etienne. Sounds like it's probably the cooler leak discussed over on the US forum, or something less serious than a head gasket failure at the very least! Look forward to hearing further once you hear back from Lexus. Fingers crossed it's nothing too serious or costly.

  30. Well in fact there is a complete lightly used system for sale on the bay it started out at £4K it's down to £1500.00 now dispite the fact it says the sale has ended I have spoken with the owner and it's still up for grabs. Ive decided against it as a valved system in the wonderful uk climate is not for me, the search continues.......... Big Rat

  31. Hey Etienne, Can you check inside oil cap please? Need to see if there are any signs of a mayonnaise type gunk in there. If so, looking like a blown head gasket, which would be extremely odd and rare. Personally liking the US suggestion about the gearbox cooler in the radiator failing, still not ideal, but has to be better than a head gasket failure?

  32. I've looked into the ISF Meisterschaft exhaust and would be very interested, the $4000 dollar price tag put me OFF but great sounding jekyll and hyde exhaust IMO.

  33. The real shame of this is now the car runs as it should(I will state i'm no mechanic but have been building cars for 29 years now( and the son of a brilliant engineer hence the hands on ) Having owned 5 petrol is's in the past the marque to me is the one...sadly the financial loss I will take on this car will leave me side tracked for sometime until i can recoop the loss...fortunatly (financially) I work for a motor company lease cars to employees,,,I can actually lease a new car complete (insurance,,tax,,servicing etc) for less than 120 a month so thats the plan,,sad to leave but what would lexus do,,,,nothin as they just want this model in the scrap yard!!

  34. Shame, rest of car is prob peachy! Since getting into Lexus ownership and doing lots of homework/research for months before purchase I came to the conclusion that the worst thing Lexus ever done was put a D on the boot lid. Again shame really as I reckon they were running with the flock when there was a glut of heavy oil in the world and manufactures were obliged/urged via tax incentives to have a DERV version in their brochures. I have always been in the mindset that Diesel engines are not suited in small road vehicles, but more like generators and ships! ideally suited to constant revs with constant load ( heavy) for prolonged duration ( hours/days, weeks even) so putting one in a school run never to get muddy 4X4 is not suited to say the least and I do think diesel has had it's day in the small/mid size non commercial vehicle. hopefully you will stick to the Lexus brand because you know they really want to do their upmost best for the end user! cheers Paul m.

  35. So got the sump welded today... then cleaned it up and gave it a spray, looking nice and fresh again..... 1 last final inspection of inside the block to make sure nothing had fell in there and hiding and all was ok, applied the toyota sump sealer and dropped the sump on.... Then fitted the sump baffle..... Also noticed something really cool which toyota did. Where the oil return boss has been welded in, the baffle tray already has a nice moulding to it to catch the oil and return it into the sump pan.... Then got the pick up pipe fitted with new gasket and fitted the lower sump pan again with toyota sump sealer.... Also painted the alternator, now i could have stripped this down but i used a trick i think i found on this forum for painting this. I just tucked bits of news paper in between all the gaps so the paint didnt go inside it, then pulled them all out and it worked a treat.... Thats it for now, next plan is to paint the a/c compressor and bracket for power steering pump, also paint the large metal coolant line that goes around the block and make a new coolant line to bypass the auto transmission cooler. Head will be back on saturday now and by then my gasket set should have come from toyota, no over night parts from japan like toretto here!!

  36. @Blista Oliver I recently sold mine in Silver on a 59 a couple of weeks ago it's at Lexus Cheltenham, but falls into your budget. There is also a car there owned by a forum member until recently which meets your requirements but is a fair bit more money as the lower mileage later cars will be especially from a dealer. Be a good idea if you posted on the 'F' forum and you will get all the help and advice there matey. Big Rat

  39. Great story and credit to Lexus Liverpool. When I picked up my F from Lexus Stoke I noticed a lack of fuel in the car. The salesman said “There’s a supermarket not too far away and you can get fuel there”. Quality

  40. However, no one is forcing anyone to pay over the odds and no one is forcing anyone to accept under the odds. Of course it's all a game. The seller wants as much as possible for their car as does the dealer. Part exchanging is sometimes worth the loss to save the hassle of selling privately. The price we get for ours and the price we pay for theirs is not really relevant. It's the difference that matters.

  41. Hello, I'm from France so apologize for the spelling mistakes ... I took a few weeks ago my 2008 LEXUS ISF to an independent mechanic I know to install the USRS kit, bleed the brake fluid, repaint the front bumper, the bonnet and the 4 wheels. I got my car back on Friday, February 9, I traveled 50 km to go home and everything was ok. The next afternoon, I drove 20 km and back in my garage I see a big leak of coolant and a big puddle under the car! The big problem is that the liquid is a little greasy and mixed with oil. With a friend we found the origin of the leak: When I start the car, after 3 seconds, the big engine coolant supply hose becomes hard and the coolant leaks through the hose too much full right next to the coolant reservoir cap. The coolant in the tank has a milk chocolate color. What is your diagnosis? Do you think this is related to the passage of the car at the independent mechanic or is it a bad coincidence? I will contact my car mechanic tomorrow to discuss it.
