  1. Hello, today was our collection day to pick up the NX300h from Lexus Leicester to London and we drove back really impressed with this car. We are so happy with this purchase! Amazing car!! We love the way it drives on the motorway and city. It is really a good car and I can see the things that have been done to it compare to my GS 450h. The car does have enough power and it has a tendency to cruise at the same speed for a while even if you release the accelerator (our Tiguan did not do this, it would decrease speed instantly) - so long driving distances, this is perfect and very relaxing. The adapting cruise control is a very good thing to have when in lots of traffic on motorway. The air con is brilliant, provide cool air like wind blowing from time to time unlike Tiguan making the air con constant blowing. There are some small touches that show how much they thought through like stopping the air con for back passengers (brilliant idea!). We cannot wait to drive luxurious miles with this car - even our 2 young kids (8 and 6) did not complain during the entire trip back home...They were super happy. Please see some photos of this car parked next to our GS450h...

  2. Back in my 400 days, I found my internal boot release lever badly bent. The car had been laid up for a couple of months and I'd taken it for a full valet to spruce it up. The young lad doing the cleaning had bent the lever trying to open the boot.....not realising that it was an electrical switch and it had been disabled. Luckily, it was only bent and could be 'persuaded' back into shape.

  5. I've been using the Faraday pouches for a long time and yes, they do work well to begin with, but they do fail. My current Monojoy ones have failed after about 9 months use so two more are being delivered today. The metallic mesh has to be flexible but it appears that that flexibility also makes it delicate and eventually the movement of the keys will break the continuity.

  7. As promised, I contacted the parts departments today of two major Lexus franchises regarding the 12v battery for my car representing the 3rd generation and some earlier generation RX450h cars. These were the franchises of Snows Exeter and Thistle Groups Cheltenham Branch. Both confirmed that there was only one battery specified for my car, the AGM S55D23L and that it was only available as a 51Ah battery. Cheltenham kindly unboxed a new one to check the specification. So this further supports what I thought was the case. I could not establish the specification of the 12v battery of the 4th generation because either the chassis number or the registration number of a car is needed and I have neither. In the circumstances, I repeat my request for somebody to give me the specification and size of the battery on their car so I can check how this compares with previous generations. Thank you.

  8. Hi there, I'm a owner of GS250(2013 F-sport) since 2018. This is a great car, becoming a rare. Let me highlight the reasons why I chosen this vehicle over others Lexus models at my budget, when I bought mine. Remember, this is my personal opinion only. I was thinking about IS300h, IS250, GS300h and GS250. 450h was over my budget. I had to refuse all IS models due to I'm 6ft, and I like to have more room (I can still fit to an IS but getting in/out is easier in GS) I do like pure V6 engine, simple engine,no turbos, but still enough powerful and sounds nice on higher revs :) I do prefer traditional auto gear box over CVT. I know, new CVTs are better than before, but I'm a fan of auto-shifting gears. I do not mind the fuel economy, so I choose pure petrol car over 300h hybrid Lexus. Service costs are very similar comparing to other models at this age, sometimes are less. The only cons I found at the moment is the road tax cost but it is law,we can not change it :( Overall, GS250 is a nice vehicle to drive unless you drive a huge distances. Do a right choice :)

Now you know one of the reasons beyond that of family and work in that order. Revel in it, it's your time in life to expect the best and no doubt you fully deserve it.

  14. £4k to £5k premium is probably correct but the Rav starts at £46.5k and is better equipped than most current base level Lexus vehicles which hopefully means a starting price around £51k.

  15. Agree with you 100% Steve. This will be a class leading SUV. I reckon the 350h will start at £39k with the 450h+ at £50k.

  17. It looks like there are different types for the centre section and sides, there are some on Fleabay claiming to be “ genuine” but the provided part number doesn’t exist. Found these on Amazon but again duff part numbers and only lists 2003-2006 facelift models. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultrasonic-Reverse-Parking-89341-50011-8934150011B0/dp/B018TR4KHE Give LexusPartsDirect a call they will help you with part numbers and supply.

  18. That’s the key to keeping an expensive car on the road whether it’s a LS400 or something else like a BMW M3. Parts are not cheap but if you can fit them yourself it makes a huge difference. For what you have had done it would be approx £300 for rear discs/pads and brake shoes, genuine Lexus parts as well and that’s not expensive at all in my opinion. The time fitting them, and I can speak from experience, would be around 4 hours if done properly. Removing everything, cleaning everything, fitting the parts correctly, adjusting the parking brake if needed (it will probably need adjusting). All that is assuming everything else is working ok, calipers are not seized etc.

  19. Completely disagree. There was a grave danger that in redesigning the NX they would design out the appeal of the shape and look of the first model which is stunning to look at, still. This even more aggressive looking version of the current look I think completely manages to update without losing what I loved and still love about the NX. It still looks very different to other SUVs on the road. They all fade into the background while this one continues to be a head turner. I'll be first in the queue.

  20. I don't think it would do any harm because alternators do occasionally fail and you may not notice immediately as car continues to function. I would just add to Herbs comment I hope you don't have to stop for petrol or anything else en route because restarting a great lump takes a lot out of the batter. This reminds me of an experience I had with one of my 3.2 Litre Fiat coupes many years ago. There was a public transport strike and I knew my alternator had failed but didn't have time to exchange it for a spare I had. I needed to get to my office in London so I fully charged the in situ one and also a spare overnight and recharged both batteries at a point near my desk. I was then able to get home which was about 12 miles away and probably took some 45 mins. I was then able to fit a replacement alternator. Of course things have got more electronically complex on cars since then, but maybe you could extend your battery reserve to linking up say with jump leads in parallel to another battery if you have one or can borrow one but I am not familiar with your car.

  21. My Alternator gave up the ghost just before the QE2 Bridge at Dartford and even with sometime slow Windscreen wipers going (just a spot of rain) I got as far as half mile from the Stop 24 Service Station on A20 Can't be absolutely sure that there was no charge but Dash lights kept flickering. It was a fairly new Yuasa Battery. Google how many miles that is? Quite a few! The Battery after the incident was charged gain and is still in the Car today although as left in France since August 2020 I suspect it may now be a dead Duck.

Also, The US is a good market as the legal stricture around deliverable quality is far tougher than here. Do check out AUTODOC and Micks Garage as they can be useful.

  27. After talking to the seller, I don’t think it’s going to be sold for less than £9k - £10k. My bid of £2500 isn’t going to cut the mustard😢 so I’ll forget it. I would have gone to £4K for it as I think it’s worth it.

  28. Could be rotten but could also be in excellent condition if it’s been stored well. Only one way to find out which one is true, if it was nearer I’d be having a look. If it’s in excellent condition and only done 15k it must be worth at least £2500, especially if you can do any needed mechanical work yourself. Timing belt and water pump etc being one of the first jobs I would think, £500 at a friendly Lexus Dealer or tackle it yourself. If you maybe spend £1k - £2k in parts and do the work yourself then you could potentially have a near brand new LS400 for less than £5k, I say ‘potentially’ because it may not turn out that way of course. Worth a go in my opinion, if you have spare cash and can do the work yourself otherwise it would be expensive paying garages to do any work.

  30. Damned Type IV tastes nasty! 🤣 Superglue is useless on plastics. It sticks skin really well (what it was invented for), porous materials really well, metals good if over large areas, glass ok, but utterly useless on any plastic I've ever tried it on. For something like that, if you can identify the plastic type, you can get specific glues. I have ABS Cement and Perspex Cement in the garage as I glue those quite often. Otherwise it's epoxy glue, but most of those don't stick to plastics that well either. I also do plastic welding but not for a small part like that.

  34. Agree entirely, and as I forecasted in an earlier piece this will be an unintended consequence of the Lexus Relax programme. The same resistance to change is being seen in the smartphone market. Vendors are touting their latest model iteration as "game-changing" when in fact, the user, sees them as being not significant enough in either functionality or economically to warrant a change. And when you add the mantra word "sustainability" to the debate the argument not to change is even more compelling. Just because you have money doesn't mean you have to spend it does it? 😎

  36. Am looking at a second EV for the house hold the range and price of the UX E is actually OK. Pretty much every half decent EV starts at £40-50k these days. The problem is the IS300H that it be replacing is simply proving to be TOO RELIABLE!!! Its done just 34k in coming up to 7 years, I've started to skip the annual oil service as its used so little, but even than its not using a drop of oil/coolant/brake fluid between 2 year services. Still returning 45-50mpg, and with petrol prices at a very stable £1.25/l, its costing less than a few hundred £ per year to refuel + VED is only £10/year. Its simply so cheap and hassle free to own/run, spending £40-50k on ANY new car to replace it seems crazy. So because of Lexus build quality and reliability we simply cannot find any reason why we need a new car to replace the IS......at this rate even by 2030 I don't think there would be a 'logical' argument to replace the IS!!!

  37. I never purchased an extended warranty on any of my Lexus vehicles (except for my GS F - due to parts being so expensive for that if something were to fail, and it makes it easier to sell; gives the purchaser some reassurance) so I understand your argument. Some people just like the piece of mind and financial budgeting that the warranty provides. Your figures are slightly inflated though. Yes if you purchased 3 extended warranties it would have cost £3k over the six years but £175 pa covers breakdown and MOT which you would need to purchase separately so the true saving is around £2k rather than £3k. £2k should be enough for a lot of repairs, such as an O2 sensor or seized brake calliper, but a misting headlight at £1k or a sat nav screen at £2k makes quick work of those savings. But I guess if you are without warranty then you source a second hand replacement for a fraction of the price and don't use Lexus to carry out the work.

  38. Hello All, This is my first post on this forum. It's been really interesting to see all the comments about the UXe- especially about how it drives and the battery range. I have a Takumi Pack model on order (as a company car) and decided on Mercury Grey with a black interior in the end. There were many other EV's available but I went for the Lexus because of their reputation for quality and excellent dealer service. I'm currently investigating a home charger and will post some pictures when it arrives, which will be another 4-6 weeks. Best wishes, Chris

  39. Hello all, just had the car back and no issue what so ever. As most folks suggested, it was an A/C drain. Nothing picked up during full service / health check so all good. Damn, this thing scared the life of me this morning!

  40. Point well made Shahpor. There are many of us in that boat with you. It might be useful going forward if we had access to the design life of parts that seem subject to the most claims, whether they are included or excluded from the new Relax warranty.eg, Shock absorbers, Multi-media systems, Headlights etc. We could then perhaps form a view as to whether a particular failure was due to poor design, defect of manufacture, design life having been achieved (wear and tear?), not fit for purpose ,etc. We could then decide how to pursue the matter eg, use the Relax warranty, accept wear and tear, or not fit for purpose under Sale of Goods Acts etc. There is much for us all to reflect upon. As I said in another Post, if 80% of claims are approved, there will be general acceptance.

  41. For me this is the crux of the issue. Personally, I have had a shock absorber and engine mounts replaced under warranty and I know there are members on here that have had headlights and multimedia screens changed, so these things do occur and are, as you say, very expensive to rectify. As someone of limited means (I am far from homeless but a repair of £'000's is beyond my usual income limits) the worry of something like this happening would somewhat rob me of the pleasure of owning one of these cars. Shame really as I do like the Lexus experience a lot.

  45. Why go all the way to the US when you could just have your own alternator remanufactured here? This company are local to me but I'm sure there'll be someone closer to you although if not, I do know that you can send/they will pick up https://www.ribblesdale.co.uk/ EDIT: - they have a delivery van that goes into deepest, darkest Yorkshire twice a week. EDIT 2 - I don't know if this place will only deal with the full power steering pump or if they will sell you a seal kit but it's got to be worth a phone call to find out https://www.carparts-direct.co.uk/power-steering-pumps

  46. Back to batteries! Some of you folks will be aware that Lexus Parts Direct were reducing the discount they gave us to as not to be so close as trade prices. I therefore checked their web site to see how this would affect their prices. They show the RX450hL 2017 on as £199,04 (inc VAT), battery ref 28800-31291 also with free shipping for Gold Club Members. During my conversation with 'Josh', I asked out of curiosity how much it was for the 3 series like mine and he checked it out on their system using my reg number and it came up with the same battery as above. (I was under the impression that the 4th series had a larger battery but perhaps not. So far from increasing the cost of this battery, they have now reduced it! (Strange!) So anybody wanting a battery might do well to contact them while the offer is still there but check the series as some earlier series used a different battery. Now in order that it doesn't keep me awake at night, LOL, I would be grateful if somebody with a 4 series could post the battery dimensions of their 4 series along with any designation so I may know for certain whether that miniscule battery in my 3 Series has indeed been carried over into the 4th Series or that Parts Direct have got it wrong. /lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/parts/lexus-rx/lexus-rx-phase-iv-2015-present/lexus-rx-4-engine-service-kits/lexus-rx450hl-phase-4-12v-starter-battery/ Finally, I mention in passing that I have purchased a Halfords 027 AGM 5 Year warranty (Yuasa) battery for my 3 series, while these were on offer and with Gold Member discount. I have assembled all the parts and have just to modify the original battery tray. This will increase the Ah over the original Pan battery by almost 20%. It also has other advantages. I will detail how I did it, show pics and give links on another thread I started within the next 2 weeks, hopefully.

  48. Ahhh.....a man after my very own heart! GS250 is a fantastic car. Its very much the right car for those who were happy in a Rover 75 2.5 Connoisseur, 3.0 Omega Elite etc. Ie those wanting a comfortable, brisk, well equipped smooth riding car but with added class and reliability from Lexus. Its really the last in line of decades of conventional, mid sized 6 cylinder engined cars. True, you will still pay a fair premium for it being a Lexus, but you will get a superbly engineered and extremely reliable car for your money. Looking at prices for the GS250 it looks like they've held their value quite a bit and am fairly surprised at the fact there is barely anything under 10 grand for an 8-9 year old vehicle. Think I paid £13k for mine with a 3yr warranty, 26k on the clock from Lexus Sidcup in December 2018. Looks like mine has only lost around 1k in value judging by whats out there. Yes the 300h is more frugal and the 450h is pretty rapid for the class of vehicle. Yes both are your options if you want to buy newer. But a car like this can be bought on condition as opposed to age. I'm more than happy with mine. I came from an E60 2.5 petrol and whilst it was a nice car overall, the difference in reliability and engineering is chalk and cheese. Good luck

  49. Proud owner of a Lexus GS 460 . I've recently fitted a set of Borbet LX 19 inch . Which in my opinion complements the car . Obviously kept the original 18s . Only other modifications to the vehicle is the exhaust system. I have fitted a Tenabe Medallion which sounds real nice improves the sound of the V8 but not over the top. I've kept the original exhaust. What I am really on here for is advice on choice of engine oil. When I bought the vehicle 18months ago it was on 37860 miles it's only on 39200miles now . Weekend milage. In that time I've changed the oil twice and bought the engine oil from Lexus dealer at a cost of approximately £200 with the filters. what I would like advice on is do you think I am wasting money buying from the dealer . Considering the car take 8.3 litres which bis obviously a lot of oil each service . I've seen some suggestions about something like Helix 5w 30 fully synthetic 5litres just over £20. Would people agree or disagree this oil is equivalent and the same compatibly as the recommended Lexus genuine product . I would like to change the oil quite regularly due to not much millage. By the way since the photos I've bought full set of vented Black diamond discs. Quality plus enhances the look of the alloys.
