  1. I’ve now competed 250 miles in my new RX 450h Premium with Tech, Safety and Protection packs. Those miles have been across A-Roads, B-Roads and mostly motorway on the M4. Previously I’ve owned two NX 300h, the first a Sport from 2017 and the second a Luxury from 2018, competing 30k miles across the two. My initial comparisons are: Comfort - a score draw. Both have exceptionally comfortable seats that suit me very well. The driving environment in the NX felt more compact, with some functions easier to get to - the heated seats and climate controls the most obvious. However, the RX counters with the automatic heating/ventilation for the seats which have meant I’ve simply left it all on ‘auto’ and let it do its thing. All very good. Ride quality - a narrow win for the RX. I always found the NX ride to be good, despite some of the media reviews. Yes, bigger potholes tended to make things a bit ‘crashy’ but generally it was a refined experience. However, the RX copes better and is much smoother over a wider variety of road surfaces. Bigger imperfections have a similar ‘crashy’ quality to the NX, albeit much less obvious. Refinement - a clear win for the RX. Don’t get me wrong, the NX is a very refined cruiser, but only when driven gently. That’s how I drive, but the difference in the RX is marked. At 70mph on the motorway, the RX is almost silent. At the end of a long day, facing a 70 mile drive in the dark and wet, I can’t think of a better car I’ve owned. There’s a sense of serenity that just made me very relaxed. I thought the NX was good - and it was - but the difference is much greater than I expected. Quality - score draw. As you’d expect with Lexus, both are exceptional. I can’t see any difference in material quality, or paint finish or anything really. Superb. Space - narrow win for the NX (but it’s relative!). Bear with me here. The RX is clearly larger, and has more space. However, given the size difference it doesn’t have as much space as you might think, especially in the boot with the seats up. The NX is actually a very practical car and is usefully smaller. Boot space seems to be about the same which has surprised me. I know the numbers say the RX has more capacity but my real world perception is that it isn’t noticeable. Economy - win for the NX. Accepting that my RX hasn’t loosened up yet, but economy - using the onboard computer - mirrors my experience when having RX loan cars. On the journeys I’ve completed in the RX so far, I’d have achieved 40mpg I’m the NX. In the RX I’m getting 32mpg with the same driving style. That’s fine for me, but worth noting. Equipment - not really able to compare, as the RX I have is a higher trim level and much more expensive. The NX had everything I thought I needed, but the RX takes things to a whole new level. The panoramic roof is lovely. The HUD and blind spot monitors are very useful. The heated steering wheel is real luxury! Is it all really necessary - obviously the answer is no. Do I like it? The answer is a definite yes! The only thing I’m unconvinced by is the steering assist, but I may get used to it over time. Overall I loved my time with the NX. It’s a great car. To be fair, every Lexus I’ve driven - IS, GS, UX, NX, and RC - has been fantastic. They all have a feeling of superb quality, and a sense of occasion that I haven’t experienced in any other brand. The RX continues the theme. It’s a lovely thing, and I realise I’m privileged to be able to own it. It takes the strengths of the NX and builds on them, but at a financial cost. If you have an RX and are considering downsizing I personally don’t think an NX would feel like you are dropping down too much. If you have an NX and are considering an RX the differences are enough to notice, but the question is whether the extra expense is worth it. I think it is - after all, if we all simply had what we ‘needed’ then I’d be driving a Fiesta!

  3. The bulb in question is likely a universal size rated at a voltage varying in relation to where it is located within the display this can be anything from 4.5v to 12v I have some bulbs that were sent with my new A/C lcd board on my Mark1 but were not used You simply solder them to the exiting terminals and swop over the green hood. I will send you a couple, PM me with your address.

  4. If possible it’s usually best to replace bulbs in pairs. Bulbs degrade in performance over time anyway and it’s usually more time and cost effective to do a preemptive strike on the remaining bulb, rather than wait for it to fail at a less convenient time..

  5. I’ll pick the low hanging fruit. We just all need to make sure we think outside the box and ensure we get to a win-win position. When we’ve agreed between us I’ll run it up the flagpole and the senior team can sign it off and move forward…

  8. Not a solution your battery problem, unfortunately. But some time ago I invested in a NOCO Power Pack just in case I was caught with a flat battery and no time to use the trickle charger. Knowing you have one in the boot will at least ensure that you’re never going to be stuck - provided, of course that it’s very occasionally recharged!

  9. 'Many Lexus models have a button labelled ‘Snow’ near the gear shift lever. If so, use it. Activating this setting allows the sophisticated electronics to maximise grip on slippery surfaces by reducing torque to the driven wheels' Quote from Lexus website regarding driving in snow. But it does say about 1 sentence above it the importance of correct tyres 🙂

  11. Hi All, Just joined the forum yesterday. I bought an IS250 C a few months back and have to say that this is, by a country mile, the best car I have ever owned. It came with a full Lexus service history and no issues at all, until a couple of minor ones cropped up recently. I have some questions for the experienced owners, but first let me tell you a bit about the car. Wifey and I got bitten by the convertible bug around 6 years ago when we decided to get a Megane CC, itself a nice comfortable car but sadly things were starting to go wrong, so it was time for it to go. I didn’t want another boring straight-4 and having owned a Probe V6 many years ago, the idea of having another lazy V6, VR6 or a straight-6 was quite appealing. So after some research I whittled my options down to either a VW Eos with the right spec or an IS250. Being aware of Lexus’ reliability and refinement, I took the plunge when the 'right' one presented itself and we’re not disappointed. The car is used as the daily, I get 30–34 mpg and after having this and the previous car with auto transmission, I doubt I’d choose a manual again as like most of us, I frequently have to deal with stop/start traffic during the 32-mile round trip commute, and this is where an auto box comes into its’ own. Occasionally, I get the odd ‘good’ run to work and back home. I’ll briefly run through some early mods I’ve done, but before that some of the first things I replaced were the air filter and cabin filter (which looked as if it had never been changed), and I sourced a space saver for use as a spare. I then bought a third-party set of floor mats in black, for use in wet weather to protect the cream mats that came with the car. Didn’t like the black steering wheel much, I felt it made the dash look slightly monotonous so I got a cream coloured steering wheel cover to give some contrast and I also treated myself to a soft head restraint pillow, which is very comfortable. I’ve replaced the interior bulbs and side lights with some nice bright LED’s and I bought a basic but easy to read analogue clock, which I stuck over the digital clock display that I felt was a bit dated and looked like a 1990’s era VCR. As the model is an SE-L you’ll be aware that it comes in 'grandad' spec, which is absolutely fine for those who like Classy and Refined, but it’s not to my taste. So I covered the door button panel inserts and great aunt Fanny’s dining table with a smart, contemporary dark brushed-steel effect wrap. It’s all subjective, and this may not be to someone else’s liking, but I think it’s an improvement. In fact, everyone who has seen it thinks it’s better. I’m not a fan of carbon fibre weave either. Whilst I had the centre console out, I thought it might be good idea to replace the green/amber LED’s on the seat heater & cooler rotary controllers with something more appropriate, so I removed the control pcb module and replaced the LED’s with red/blue bi-colour LED’s. Now, when the seat heater is turned on, the indicator lights red and when the cooler is turned on, the indicator is blue. More recently I’ve bought a small third-party DAB+ radio adaptor, which works surprisingly well and sounds ok too. Future projects may include replacing the green dashboard LED’s with something more fancy, but I am hesitant as the car is so well put together, I don’t want to ruin anything. So there you go, my initial impressions are very positive. Although I have a few nit-picks with the car, the comfort, quietness and sheer driving quality outweigh the other things I’d like to change. Oh, and the missus is now officially the queen of our local Tesco and Asda car parks! On a sunny day. Anyway enough waffling, sorry for the looong first post, and thanks for letting me join LOC.

  13. Not located at the dashboard, but I use the Brodit 853618 and I'm very satisfied. Great quality and vibration is a non-issue. https://www.brodit.com/product.html?id=853618&pn=prod&brand=Lexus&model=GS+Series&year=2007 The location could be argued to be a negative however, as well as the price since you also need to acquire a device holder.

  15. Well as suggested above, it is a crack in the head. So it needs a new head. Dealer is trying to sort something out with Lexus as it must have been a latent defect from new.

  16. The app or as I call it "My Lexus" requires you to sign in on the Lexus UK website assuming you created the a/c first and should then show two things after signing in, 1. Owned cars and Orders. If you click orders the next screen shows your ES in the colour you chose and a status which in my case shows Left the Factory and also it's location which is Toyota City. Aichi Prefecture Japan. A Track my Order link shows the history of the build and it's current status.

  19. Hi VFR - thanks, I think you're quite right about an all season probably being a good compromise and preferable given winters are rarely constantly cold. Unfortunately, as NemisisUK says, Michelin don't appear a 275 35 19 tyre in the Cross Climates nor do Continental in the AllSeasonContact - although they do a 40. I'm not sure how unusual the RCF's tyre sizes are?

  20. I can’t imagine anyone describing you - or anyone - as ‘homophonic’ Graham. Mainly because it’s a term that applies to a musical or choral construct. What you may be, Graham, is the innocent victim of the autocorrect software, of which I have moaned about in the past!

  21. I've never liked sticking things to the dashboard so I use the vent fixings. The dashboard fixings certainly give a better phone location though. I'd probably look for one with as few joints as possible to minimise vibration.

  22. Today I found …….. Was icy this morning and had remembered about a setting in the climate section that someone had posted so had a peep, there was on the first screen that opened in climate a small box on the bottom at centre of screen, it has the screen defrost logo with a line through it so clicked on it and it lite up green on the sides. Very shortly after nice warm air was coming out of the screen and side vents even though I had only turned the car on a few min’s before so there must be a heater in there somewhere geared to this situation.

  23. I am quite annoyed by all these electric scooters on the streets. I must admit there are only a few where I live in Ireland but in Italy and where my parents live in Palermo it is an invasion. Especially there, it seems that they do not care about rules and you always risk to run over one of them.

  24. Meetings! Today I've had two meetings scheduled, neither of which I was looking forward to at all. Both were cancelled and rescheduled for tomorrow. This means I've got to endure the "I'm not looking forward to this meeting" stress all over again in the morning. I am not happy about this at all, make no mistake!

  41. I offered someone on eBay £200 and he accepted but there was also a £20 customs charge when it arrived 😞 needless to say, they do look good. I opted for the red colour and I’ve got my MOT this weekend but I shouldn’t worry too much as these lights also have a rear fog function. It uses the reversing light as the rear fog. My only downside was that the inner light clusters narrowly scrape the putter light clusters when opening/closing. Not sure if this is a common issue with anyone else but I see it happening on both sides so could just be a defect with mine.
    1 point
  42. Ok, took the plunge and ordered the Vland rear lights, I went for red set in the end, also replaced the gas struts in the boot yesterday, what a difference, was an easier job than I thought it would be. The car is coming along quite nicely.

  43. Thank you to everyone who has commented and shown pictures of their lights, now I am torn, both the red and the smoked lights look amazing, my car is grey, one thing is for sure, i will be getting a set, just have to choose which ones.

  46. As mentioned, they do have fog lights. I went for the red lenses as I didn’t want it to look modified / non factory to the untrained eye. Main reason to swap was that I didn’t like the orange indicators and them not being LED. Daytime pics below of lights on and off.
