  1. Hi, Just joined, have had my ES300H since May 2021, now done 72000 miles, getting 55mpg in winter and nearly 60 in summer, what's not to love!! mix of motorway and town work, living in Leicester

  2. Just heard back from Lexus in response to my email over the weekend. They are assuring me that things are moving towards a programme of remedial action and have advised that the police have seized a load of equipment used for the CAN BUS thefts in the London area. Also they have stated that the new RX/RZ is on a different platform with different software so should not be as vulnerable. How quickly this translates into positive action for us I cannot say. I will keep in contact with Lexus.

  7. Dropped all seat related plans to have some enjoyment over half term whilst the wife is off work and the weather favourable. Have made the executive decision to just repair/ repaint the seats for now. Car should be back with me next week, the weather is nice, so heated seat function is low down priority and I'll save it for a winter job. So the mystery shall remain for now. Have cleaned the seats and my dad is popping over tomorrow with spray gun to apply dye and newly acquired sealant. Will do my best to get some pics for the forum to assess 😉

  8. Fri 19th outside a hotel in Pulford, Cheshire. Absolutely gorgeous and I'd never seen the colour before; I had to go online to find out what it was Perfectly set off with an Ochre interior. My wife said I could buy one like it for her, as an anniversary present...... Anyone on here claim ownership, and do you want to swap it for an RCF?

Just noticed funny "trick" or bug in the insurance quote (at least on comparethamrket.com)... basically I was insuring GS300 and after entering VRN it gives two options for the car, which are identical: However... if you select the first one in the list, then insurance price is £562, but if you select the second in the list, then price drops to £471. Not sure why, not sure if this applies to all years and maybe other models, but usually when I enter the registration it only gives one selection whereas this time there were two and they have noticeable difference in the price despite being identical. I am sure that somebody will comment that it is important to make sure to select correct one , or that I must call insurance and clarify, or else insurance will get "invalidated" or some other paranoid stuff... NOPE - they are both correct and as a consumer there is no way for me to distinguish them, so I have absolute right to choose the cheaper option even if somewhere in the back end of the database they are somehow different. So if you have GS300, then make sure to play around with the options and see if you getting only one model to select or maybe more.

  10. Day 2 not much milage today, still trying to sort out the technical setup - keeps asking me to accept terms and conditions ????? but after charge numbers are 41.3 / 39.2. So slightly up from yesterday

  11. Actual range after first 1,035 miles. In reasonably hot weather, 70mph for more than 50% of the time, with aircon on high for about 70% of the time I have used 336Kw which equates to consumption of 3.08 miles to the Kw. With a usable 64Kw = 197 miles which is what the car reports, so it confirms the range indicated can be relied upon. Not the best range but maybe the most reliable one !

John..here Waze is free to use.The only adverts I have noticed are for petrol stations (clearly marked as adverts) and only on the petrol price page.This is a very useful feature and regularly updated.When I first installed it,thea screen showed the location of all the other Waze users on the map.This made the screen very "busy",but this feature can be disabled.All round a very good app.Worth you looking at in more detail...I seem to remember that it is a Google app..I don't see the sense as Google maps exist.

  14. I find that Waze does all that anyway doesn't it? When I used to use a stand-alone TomTom many years ago I subscribed to the camera database supplied by https://www.pocketgpsworld.com/ I haven't looked recently but I think it used to be £20/year and if you reported a camera location that wasn't already on their database you got a free 12 month subscription. It works the same way as you've described Coyote in that it shows fixed, mobile, average speed and temporary cameras on both sides of the road and is constantly updated. I've neither used it nor needed it since I discovered Waze but it strikes me that it would be a very good alternative to Coyote for those who want it.

  16. Hi. Yes it was mrcarmax. Had it installed during COVID so around 2-3 years ago. Personally have not had any issue with it. Some sound is noticeable from the cage movement when going over speed bumps but not from the physical welded and bolted steel plate. I'm going to go back now that I have recent bought an additional rx450h and have the same done. I would recommend a mechanic look over the exhaust before hand as any work required is going to be impossible after its installation unless removed completely. Actually I think it has protected the exhaust from many elements. I use the car regularly. Also just had the scorpion X immobilizer installed in the 450h. Very pleased with results. This was from a separate merchant, trackershop found via Google.

  18. The lights on my RX300 were very good. But the 400h I owned was poor, even after a lens buff. No comparison compared to the excellent LED's they now fit.

  20. I have no idea how old you are, but most people will not hear any difference between lossless and 512kbps when passed the 40 - 50 years. 320kbps will also be fine for most.

Yes, my insurance has gone up from 400 to 480 this year in Pinner in London, my old cars insurance was 230 (fully comp) it was a qashqai. , the prices should get better as until you reach around 65 then it increases, is what I have heard. Try adding friends or family who have licenses and a clean record for a long time if they consent as a named second driver this helps, but make sure you don't put them as the main as then insurers will wiggle out of paying. Your occupation also help doctors for example pay nearly double as compared to an accountant when they have newer licenses. However, even though it may be tempting when a black box insurer offers you a low quote do not go with them especially with an ES300h, as they will say you accelerated to fast, sped up .... and cancel your insurance, then you will have to declare to your new insurer that your old one got cancelled, that sends insurance through the roof, i have a friend who that happened to with a BMW 3 series.

  27. My first post on range as I picked the car up today. Left dealership with range of 38 - not sure what the with AC was. Managed 33 miles on way home before it ran out - mainly dual carriageway ( did get up to 70 twice (briefly) so full charge tonight shows 39.9 / 37.9 - hope these improve as the car gets run in and I get some "good normal Norfolk" roads ie no motorway and very limited dual carriageway

  28. I have a 2013 RX450h on 105K miles. The last 2 times I have booked it in for a service at the local main dealer they have asked if I want to pay extra for an engine and Injector flush. I struggle to see that this is necessary if it is not already included in the standard service. It's also something that was not offered before but not sure if it is recommended because of the age and mileage of my vehicle or just a new way to extract a bit more money from the customer! Does anyone have any views on this? Thanks

  29. The car has been viewed and inspected by an insurance assessor. No doubt, it was taken to a repair centre, and a list of parts made to effect a satisfactory repair, by an experienced engineer. Then a report subsequently prepared given to the afore mentioned employee of the insurance company. Both of these guys will know their jobs inside out. They will have looked at the prices for the parts from lexus, and only lexus. They will then have made a decision based on the price of the parts and the Labour to return the car to pre-damaged condition. “Stolen recovered minimal damage” as you suggest here obviously is not the case. The interior damage to the trim is obviously extensive, there is a lot of trim missing and I would guess unfortunately the car probably needs a new dashboard. The glovebox looked like it has been wrenched out. Mounting lugs are probably broken and smashed. It hasn’t got minimal damage. The value of the car to the trade would have been in the region of £32-35k. So the repair to make the car right must have been in excess of £16-17k. It’s in the best interest of the insurance company to make an economic repair - in the end it costs them less than writing the car off. if this can’t be made, using the judgement and experience of the engineers who have actually seen and assessed the car, not just looked at a few photos - how is this an abuse of the category system?? The F cars are rare in the UK. salvage parts are few and far between. It’s not a 3 series or the like where any part, in any colour is readily available on eBay.

My disability makes riding a bicycle impossible, but I’d love a Renault Twizy (or similar) for local travel to the shops etc. The only thing stopping me - apart from cost as I’ve already got two cars - is wondering how other road users would ‘treat’ a Twizy. It’s more like a car than a bicycle, but I’d still bet some people would be impatient with the 35-40mpg realistic top speed…

  33. Yes, the solar meter would have been installed as part of the system some eleven years ago, so I am sure would now be beyond any warranty provided. It seems likely that my daughter will have to pay for a replacement and hopefully will be able to get this done soon as possible as we are now in the most productive period for generating electricity. Incidentally, apart from the panels which have a very long life, the inverter is quite expensive and may need replacing any time onwards now. It seems the monitor my daughter has records from the inverter. I have a very similar system to my daughter's. It was installed by the same firm within a week of hers by the same firm, so this is of potential concern to me. However, I have purchased a device that is fixed to the digital meter and then into a box containing 3, AA batteries and a transmitter which is paired to a monitor in the kitchen. Were it not for this, I would not know whether the solar meter was working as it is in the garage along with the inverter so not convenient to check on. The two types of monitor were offered at extra cost and not everybody would have opted for them or would have chosen the more expensive but less helpful one like my daughter did. (There are doubtless other devices that can be bought nowadays. Not material to the above but of possible interest is that the FIT alone repaid the total cost of our respective systems in 6.75 years, although we did have systems installed before the Government started reducing the FIT on subsequent installations. Then we have benefitted from a lot of our own generated electricity to reduce our electricity bills, with years more of benefit to come.

  38. This is interesting. I note that on the box it did state that the LED bulbs were 'for off road use only'. My RX has passed its MoT regularly ever since I upgraded to the HID conversion and recently since I changed this to the LEDs. Evidently there is some flexibility in the way testers interpret this.

  40. So that brings me to 2023 and a new year modification that actually saved me more weight than expected, a carbon bootlid. Initially the SARD wing was to be sold, but the lip spoiler I had purchased to replace it was a bad fit, so the SARD wing stayed (for now). Regarding weight loss, removing the spare and tools, as well as replacing the OEM bootlid was a large saving. Sadly less weight over the rear wheels means more sensible driving in less favorable conditions as she does step out more, but I enjoy the challange and the weight reduction thus far has transformed the car. So much so that even my friends with a DB11 and Gallardo have commented on how fun she is to drive, and how quick she is for what is a heavy sports saloon.

  42. Then came ExclusiveJDM's Full Scale show that had some incredible cars and a change of wheels. The Wedssport's never really sat well on the car for me, so it was time to have a lower offset (wider stance) and lighter wheels. So I went with some Enkei GTC01RR's as well as a caliper refresh to match them.

  43. One of the biggest modifications that cost the least than took place. A dechrome of the car, which made an incredible difference, which surprised me when I collected her. I then took the machine polisher to her and ceramic coated the car for show season and a busy summer.

  44. I have always had an addiction with carbon fibre, it's always been something that looks so perfect with modified Jap cars (to me!). Which brings me to the next big modification of last year, carbon bonnet and wings. Now although a questionable modification for weight loss on the front end, since the OEM bonnet is aluminium and OEM wings are not that much lighter than their carbon counterparts. These modifications did remove some weight over the heavy front end, but sadly the images I took of the weights has been lost. It was a marginal amount though and not life changing. I also had to make the ballsy move to cut into a freshly new carbon bonnet for the latches, as I didn't fancy losing it at higher speeds.

  45. I then decided where I wanted to take the car, I wanted to make her lighter. The conclusion that making her faster with engine modifications was going to be incredibly expensive (Supercharger), and with the entire F range being a bulky mass slowing down what is a big engine, I decided to start saving weight as a way of making her more nimble, with a view of track days in the future. The first modification for this was attacking rotational mass and addressing the issues with the staggered offset. So I went with 18's and 9.5" wide wheels all round. This was a proven upgrade in the States and a must for me. As much as I love the OEM wheels, the weak offset and larger rim size needed addressing, so I went and purchased some Wedssport SA25R'S. I also decided to remove the Vlands for the better quality OEM units. The main reason being I preferred the images of older Supras, Skylines, that still retained their 90's lights and that sometimes, it's cleaner and simpler to be stock.

  46. Then came the start of my maintenance run, ensuring the car had some areas tended to, to match the full history. Full Lexus radiator change by myself (my second one after doing the same for the GS430). I also sent the car to a local motorsport company for a full undercarriage strip and seal.

  47. Brian, The £40k threshold for VED is now a joke and bears no resemblance to the impact it was supposed to have when it was first applied.There are very few cars available now close to £30k. I have been trying to buy an MX5 and they are now £35k for the top model.Crazy.A couple of forthcoming price increases and thats the £40k passed. Are there any Lexus now below £40k.I see there is a 3% increase in July. My dealer has recently sold 2 used LC (both V8) in the same week and one of those was £90k.So hopefully the demand is still there. AJ.

  48. I'm not quite sure why some think the price is dropping. Currently, on Autotrader, the lowest price 500 is £56.5k and £57.5K for the 500h. When I cast my mind back to two key points in my ownership i.e. when I bought the car last June and again to this January, these values are both well above those then asking prices. The evidence would tend to suggest prices are still on the up and I would further add inflation affects prices of all goods and cars either new or used will be no exception to this fact. Judge for yourself and have a trawl around new car prices let alone used prices. I recall how many people laughed at the additional VED for cars over £40K only to now find themselves caught in yet another tax trap. Look at a now £30K car and factor 10%/pa inflation and lo and behold in 3 years time the price will be £40K. As with the personal income tax allowance, lifetime pension allowance and inheritance allowance to name a few, the £40K threshold is set to remain fixed till 2026, and I suspect beyond........
