  2. Congrats to you - I know how you feel! Why? I'm a 300h owner and I picked up my 450h+ Takumi yesterday. I think it's MY24 also - the glove box is cream and I read that somewhere on here, I guess. One year and six days since I placed the order, with the last couple of months being the worst, repeated slippage, all the reports of missing parts, lack of Lexus UK status reports, Derby, Derby, Derby, etc., etc.. 40 minute drive home, mostly motorway, smooth as silk, quiet as a mouse and this thing is divine. I love it. All the hassle behind. Only one key, no card key, but hey that's minor. I can wait. The fun starts here....

  3. i get that for sure, but shoddy tyres could also make the difference between some1 buying one on a test drive and not, it hinders the NX reaching its ultimate ability, i get for example a brand like citoren/renault/nissan juke/dacia etc. it makes sense to fit the cheapest, as you dont have choice in the price point, but Lexus has the GLB,GLC X3, X4, Model Y, Q5, Macan, CRV, Sportage, RAV4, TIGUAN, e-pace, f-pace, evoque ... to contend with leaves a bit of a cheap taste, seeing as everything in the NX is perfect. I personally think that if they offered 360 camera (mid spec and above NISSANS, yes Nissans have had this since 2012 yet Lexus in 2023 makes you spend 14k extra to go to Takumi to get this) , better tyres, blind spot monitoring as standard on the lexus range their sales may be 2-3x higher in the UK. The penny pinching on the UX is a bit obvious the bonnet has a manual mount instead of a strut, offering no sat nav as standard, 10k mile service/1 y service intervals probably puts a lot of fleet managers off from buying these as rivals have 2yr/20k and cheaper service. Would you agree?

  6. Hi folks. Thought I'd post this for everyone who may want to do the same as I have. You'll have noticed that car manufacturers are making their cars to have the headlights on while driving. So I went about discovering how I could do this to my IS250. This is probably possible on other models but I don't know if the wiring colours would be the same. Doubt it. In this 1st photo you can see the connection that I worked on. It's under the steering wheel. In the second photo you'll see the wires that I shorted out to cheeks if it worked. Grey is the supply for the headlights (10V). Orange is for setting the lights to auto (10V). Blue is the side lights (5V) White is to ground all of the above. Using a solenoid to connect the grey and the white (works both side and head). The solinoid only switches on when the ignition is one. I powered the solenoid temporary to check it all worked ok. Just need to install the wiring properly now. Hope you find this helpful.

  7. We’ve just had this with our 450h Three nights in a row - 10pm 10pm and after midnight. Called Lexus after second one who asked us to check for insects and cobwebs so I dusted the car for cobwebs and sprayed it with fly spray to kill any insects. Also turned off internal sensor, but you’ve got to remember to do that every time you switch off? After night three alarm, after midnight (neighbours must be getting annoyed now) I went out and bought a steering wheel lock, so we could turn the alarm off (we can’t have the car taken away to Lexus for “reasons”) Anyway - worked out what it was. A half full two litre bottle of water was on the front seat. At night it was cooling down and you know when the bottle cracks as the air inside contracts? Triggered the alarm. Removed the bottle - nothing since.

  9. CANbus theft simply gets the thief into the car where they can then register a new key via the OBD socket. This is then recognised by the Lexus immobiliser as genuine and will release the car security. The factory fitted Lexus security is relatively easily circumvented

  15. Cobra had an alarm with a few more buttons on the remote and if not pressed correct car would be locked a while. Do not remember the name or number of it. Did not sell that well. But did function in 2000.

  16. At the height of the British empire english was the most widely spoken language and the official language of its colonies. There was little impetus to learn another language. Even now the official language of aviation is English. Only in the EU and the Eurovision song contest is there an attempt to repeat everything in french. 😁

  17. My aim - admittedly a boring one - was to make obvious what to some might have appeared to be a joke. Certainly, it was not my aim to raise the subject of the relative prowesses of Frenchmen and Englishmen in expressing themselves in each other’s languages. But, since the subject was raised, I will offer my observation, as a third party, that the degree of fluency, both spoken and written, of the average French anglophone is higher than that of a British francophone. Why this should be is difficult to say, but, historically, it probably has a lot to do with insularity on the one side and greater commercial and perhaps cultural incentives on the other. Something that has always struck me as odd is the frequency with which British comedians get laughs from their fellow countrymen’s distorted attempts to speak foreign languages, thus selling the country undeservedly short. Linguistic self-satire of this nature is rare in the majority of other countries.

  18. None of that is CAN. There is some BEAN bus there but most is discrete wiring which isn't an issue. It was around 2016 onwards (depending on specific model) where Toyota changed the lights to use CAN which introduces the method of attack that thieves are targeting - so only the RX series IV.

I was getting concerned about the possible three weeks postal time, but like you I went on official Govt website which I found straight forward easy and helpful especially the drop down box linking our V5 sections to their relevant sections to be answered on the website form. Only hiccup was the box titled "Mark" which should have been "Make" as the answer was Lexus The email receipt has arrived and like you say can be printed and covers until the original arrives in the post. Top marks to the French for getting it right as there was no need for me to be unduly worried.

  21. I reckon this is the case for all 55/05 plate GS300, maybe other years as well, so keep this in mind if you doing quote online next time. On the other hand this may be just comparethemarket.com quirk, because I had to get daily insurance from daysure and they correctly recognised the car and gave me one price.

  22. You are right that Lexus is cutting corners with the newer models. That only make it correct that they have made their reputation and now don't need to do much as the brand is already named : Premium.

  23. I do understand your point, but brands have always done this sort of thing. Putting tyres to one side for a moment, ‘less desirable’ brands have always loaded their models with more equipment at a lower price in order to try and tempt people away from ‘prestige’ or ‘more desirable’ brands. When I was young in the 1970s the family firm made a conscious decision to move away from Mercedes company cars and go to Vauxhall/Opel for exactly this reason. The absolute quality wasn’t there, but the owner/drivers loved that their new cars were stuffed full of electric windows, cassette decks, tinted glass and the like - all of which were optional extras on the previous and much dearer Mercedes. The point about Nissan above - to me - fits that same premise all these years later. Returning to tyres, I don’t think we can say Lexus is fitting ‘shoddy’ tyres. Yokohama, Dunlop, Bridgestone all are good brands. The reality is that most people don’t really notice or care. On a car forum the representative sample of views is likely to be quite different to the public at large imho. That aside, I do think Lexus is penny pinching in some areas considering the cost of the product. The bonnet strut on a UX is a small but good example. They must reason that the extra ‘perception of quality’ a gas strut would provide isn’t a deal breaker for almost anybody - and they’re probably correct - but in terms of long term satisfaction it’s that sort of thing that gets into the subconscious. I think they used to be called ‘surprise and delight’ features. I’d say the plastic door trims on the UX are far more important, and personally I think the quality there really does let the side down in an important area.

  25. Usual culprits are the rear cables (one to each axle) which tend to seize however there are various mechanisms like the quadrant and its return spring that can also seize. If you detach the single cable from the pedal (R clip and pin as circled) see if the pedal then returns fully up by just pulling the release lever. If all is now good here check the quadrant for free movement, the return spring is present then move onto the cables to the rear drums. If it is seized cables replacement is the best option as lubrication may only provide a temporary fix if any. I would normally attach pictures but the internet speed here in Rhodes is soooo slow.

  28. MID just says whenever it is insured or not, so basically nothing. MOT just shows MOT for correct car, there is nothing suspicious about it. I tied with two GS300 now and both rendered same results. I have no doubt about it... and as special deal just for today and for calling an extra £100 more expensive to improve my experience with the cover.

  30. Not got the plugs but I have looked at a spare cluster I have to determine what IC/chip needs to be reprogrammed. This is for a 97-2000 LS400, earlier models will probably be different. The IC/Chip is IC8 on the main board, it is a surface mount IC, same size and shape as the immobiliser IC/chip in the ECU. I tried reading the chip ‘in circuit’ without removing, same as the ECU immobiliser chip and can’t do it so needs to be removed. I am confident that once removed it can be read and reprogrammed for the correct mileage. However, my opinion is that if anyone needs to replace the cluster and keep the mileage correct then either swop the main circuit board if it’s ok or swop over IC8. IC8 is located under a heat sink for voltage regulator IC1 so the heat sink needs to be removed and is fixed with a bolt, spring washer and nut.

  36. These engines are designed for, and regularly achieve, 200-300k miles and more without any additives, flushes or suchlike. Just another way of relieving you of your hard-earned cash.

  38. The method I've used in the past on most cars is to put the ignition and wipers on, then wait for them to be at 90° before switching the ignition off. This normally leaves them in a position to easily change the wipers. I do seem to remember it not working on some cars as they 'park' the wipers even after switching the ignition off. Can't remember which car though..
