  1. Hi, I can confirm that the message should automatically disappear after about one week. I’ve found the section in the manual… (I do like a hard copy manual; strangely easier to navigate than the online version). My week expires tonight so I’m hopeful it will be gone soon.

  2. Neil in 2007 i had a quadruple bypass. It has its risks as any op does the success rate is very good nowadays. Stephen at Boomer posts well. Its seems a slow recovery but you will get stronger and stronger. I grabbed my new given life with both hands looked after myself and hopefully will get a few more years. i hope you get the op quickly. You'll be alright good luck my friend onwards.

  3. I had a triple CABG (Conorary Artery By-pass Graft!) 8 years ago. my blockages were 95%, 85% and 70% if I remember correctly. You will not be allowed to drive for 6 weeks after the operation. The post op exercise classes are essential to get back your fitness - you may even begin to enjoy them! They will probably take a vein from your leg and use that as the "tube" for the by-pass. It is considered a routine operation, but not to the person who is having it! As Stephen said above, the main pain you get is from coughing - that is why they give you a rolled towel to hold against your chest. You will feel quite weak for at least 2 weeks. Please DO NOT attempt any form of exercise until you are told to. I got bored and decided to polish the car roof after 3 weeks - oh did I suffer! Be a patient patient and your recovery will be quicker! Try not to worry unduly and if they offer you an earlier appointment take it! Keep us informed how it goes please - all the best!

  5. I had 3 stents fitted 12 years ago following a heart attack. I've been having pains for the last couple of years and getting progressively worse. I had an angiogram/camera job done in July last year, they thought maybe one of the stents had collapsed and that was causing the pain, as it turned out the stents were fine but the camera video shows that one artery is 50% blocked and another 30% blocked. The main blockage is too near to the heart wall to be stented so needs to be bypassed, so doing both. The medication they give me six months ago is superb but the surgeon says it wont last long before the pains will be back. The surgeon is a bit of a joker, he says the main reason for doing the bypass is because he still has a large mortgage to pay off. The car is in for the Ghost at 11.30 this morning.

  7. The latter comes with a very high success rate. Indeed, you are in more danger crossing the road these days. I won't lie it is going to hurt like hell afterwards when they reflate your lungs and your sternum is mending, but if you are having this OP because you have symptoms of Angina brought about by hardening of the arteries then be aware you are about to be given a second bite at life IF you want to make the most of it post OP. I was in for a Quintuple bypass (the lot). Had the Op all day Tuesday and I went home Saturday morning clutching my rolled up towel to my chest ( LOL you'll find out what thats for). Initially pretty wiped, but just over a week later I started step ups on the bottom step of the stairs. 3 weeks later I attended Heart whatever they call it for some sessions each week to rebuild my stamina. 6 months later I was doing step ups for 2 hr sessions outside any weather. Actually rains great for cooling you down. That was 13 years ago and literally 3 laps of the world ago. I did see quite a few people who went through the same OP who really just took it all for granted and could not be bothered to take the gift they had been given. Guess they have been back in and out for stents. In summary, whilst any operation comes with risk it is in my view a risk to reward well worth taking just get your head in the game and don't flunk the opportunity. I should say feel free to pm me if there is anything you would like to know about what is coming your way with this. I know it's a bit of a worry. because it is no small thing to undergo.

  8. The problem for Labour is that despite their promises at the core it is always about wealth distribution regardless. The problem with that is real wealth has no borders so the axe will always fall on the next strata down because it is the only target that has the money and is still a fixed target that can be hit. Many businesses of course fall into that category as well as individuals. High asset value people and multi nationals can hardly ever be really caught. Hence, any promises to get behind business is just 'please elect us' then we can stab you in the back.

  13. Removing and replacing a screen is really for a professional, thats IF you can get a new one. Failing that you could try Paul at lexus spares direct to see if he has one and can remove it and ask a screen fitter if they could do the job for you. I doubt there would be any guarantee given on a used screen though. Paul - 07590072646

  16. Neil, 3 months should be enough to get stamina back. Probably not quite enough in some other respects. Namely, they break your sternum for access purposes. Post OP bone calcifies over break and can start in just a few weeks. That might be enough to roll through coughs and small contacts, but not enough for more serious stuff. You lose muscle post OP and lifting etc will be that bit more tough. In my case I couldn't really get on a weight bench for nearly 18 mths. I did try before that ,but the resultant pressure on my sternum was always there. The rolled up towel I mentioned earlier is to hold against your chest when you cough, because coughing etc stills hurts when the sternum is still freshly broken and has not yet knitted together. Yoo will also needs to do some stretching as your chest will feel 'tight', but you cannot get into that until the sternum is really knitting together. If your boating holiday is actually sailing I think some of the physical stuff will be still be quite a struggle at 3 mths. Of course different people different strokes there is always the chance you might get there quicker than I did. In summary, your stamina and legs get back there a lot quicker than your upper body. Good luck.

  17. It isn't - it's a rushed compliance car that is woefully uncompetitive. Even The Car Care Nut on YouTube, who couldn't be anymore pro Toyota/Lexus, said it wasn't a good car.

  18. Unfortunately i don't have the space to DIY it so i took it to my trusted mechanic. Apparently the entire system was gunked up, it's likely the previous owner put either low quality fluid or just straight up water. Was about a €50 job to clean everything but at least now it works.

  19. That’s the problem - £70k. For a car that barely goes 200 miles on electric. it’s an awful purchase compared to pretty much any other option. They also don’t have real leather on any trim. The new similar size Porsche Macan EV starts at £70k and will go another 100 miles or so on its battery.

The sensor is located on a bracket to the right and slightly up from the crank pulley ( 1 o’clock position) it is secured with a single bolt. 2nd picture shows position albeit on a dismantled engine. The 3 codes you have include a possible defective CPS if you look at the service and diagnostic sheets in the video.

I have been missing for sometime because I have been through the mill with personal and health problems but fortunately I am now out the other side! Does anyone know if there are plans afoot for an annual SC430 meet this year? It is usually June and we need to be booking hotel rooms if its happening. Anthony 🙂

My father at 55 ( heart attack ) based on simple maths I expect to depart at 77 ( heart attack ). I've just got a few years left. Non smoker - drinks loads - got a motorbike OMG - it could be any time now!! I don't mind that having seen some relatives suffer the long decline with C you know what.

  30. That sucks 😞 Might need to contact Pilkington and see if they can make one for your LS if they don't have it in stock. https://www.pilkington.com/en-gb/uk/automotive/classic-cars-home/makes-and-models/all-makes-and-models?make=lexus They do list items for the first generation XF10 LS400 (HT1076) which should fit your 93. Bonded screens are a royal PITA to remove without damaging them. Then once successfully removed they need to be carefully cleaned before bonding them into your car.

  31. There is no magic bullet. We all know a bit of regular exercise and a decent diet is the way to go, BUT the bad news is a large chunk of this issue is genetic. If you have a heart condition then the likelihood is if you look you will find it is hereditary. On my mothers side for me. The good news is be aware of whats going on with yourself. Do things seem increasingly difficult beyond what you might expect from aging. Are you getting any pain in the left upper arm etc. with shortness of breath. Classic symptoms of a blood to heart problem that need a urgent look at. if you can get in and prevent the heart attack from happening that's very useful. I actually did not have the heart attack like Neil (god knows how I got that lucky) so a bypass is in my mind (a strange place to be) just like putting a fresh set of rubber on a Ferrari.😉

  33. Sounds about the same. This is the 2nd turbo-charged car I have driven for any length of time and the turbo-lag on both was atrocious and to me unacceptable. I lived with it on my S320CDI for 18 months but hated it and would never go back to that. I can see where Hybrids can use the electric part to fill in that gap in the performance but otherwise turbos are a big NO from me. What is the point of a gazillion Bhp when it doesn't respond instantly? In a race car maybe, but not on the road.

  34. All the very best wishes with that, Neil. Many years ago I was assured by the Head of Heart Surgery at the John Radcliffe, Oxford that a heart bypass was as near to routine as modern surgery gets. I take it that stents were not an option in your case, but as Stephen has eloquently described, this bypass is literally the gift of a new lease of Life. Apart from that, how are you getting on with the Ghost? It’s something I considered but in the end didn’t think my eight year old Lexus was a prime target for the local thievery. But I thought it an impressive piece of kit.

  40. The Hybrid battery is 15-years / unlimited mileage (subject to the Hybrid Health Check being up to date), below extract from the Lexus website, this should also be stated in your service history booklet. For hybrid vehicles, the service will include a Hybrid Health Check to extend the hybrid component and battery warranty cover. If the vehicle is eligible for the hybrid components and battery cover will be included in the same Lexus Warranty contract until 10 years or 100,000 miles, whichever is soonest. You can then independently extend the hybrid component and battery warranty cover for up to 15 years and unlimited mileage by having a Hybrid Health Check.

  41. Takumi test sounds good but Ford have done better. New engineers have to be able to cross thread at least two spark plugs and a sump nut then bash at least two wing panels with a spanner then disappear up their own bottoms before they are allowed on the production line.

  43. That's an interesting idea, thanks. I only live about 45 mins from H&S, so I'll drop them a line and see what they reckon. It is a full system. I have driven a completely stock ISF and the intake noise was still a big enough draw without the drama from the exhaust. Might have something to do with being a previous owner of VTEC engines. Good to have options.

  44. Placed a big order last week with Lexus Direct Parts, all being well, it'll come tomorrow and I'll be doing the following jobs: Oil & Filter change Coolant replacement Transmission fluid replacement Engine air filter replacement Pollen / cabin filter replacement Brake fluid replacement Air conditioning system clean Fuel system clean Paint stone chip touch up Spark plugs replaced Quite a 'complete service' incoming for the car. I can't be sure after that initial three years what was done.. to what standard and what parts were used. I doubt it was genuine fluids. It's unclear if they 'topped up' brake fluid or properly replaced it etc... as that said dealer I bought the car from did lie to me on my last car about changing brake fluid I thought why take the chance.. for a few £. They allegedly also changed the spark plugs but did they? and did they use genuine parts.. probably not. Why chance it? This will set it right. Then I plan to most likely take it to Lexus for the Relax warranty for the last 2/3 eligible years. I am tempted to video each of these jobs and put it up on YouTube as a how-to or just a follow along video.

  47. Well a week or so later and I have made up my mind...... It is going to be the NX Premier. I found the RX a bit daunting in size and felt it would be an absolute devil to park in tight multi storey car parks. It is gorgeous though and so wide inside, or so it felt. So after a few days humming and haa-ing and after test drives, I plumped for the NX. My son in law has the F Sport version, so I knew the interior was going to be good. It was nice to see one with a few more bells and whistles on it though 😂 Getting in and out of the NX was easy too, which was my main self-afflicted gripe over the IS we currently have. It will be a shame to say goodbye to the IS because it is a lovely car to drive, just a bummer getting out of it at my age, old fart that I am 😜 We collect the NX on Friday. It is a 66 plate in Mercury Grey, with about 38k miles on it. The interior looks great, no sagging seats or marked interior despite the higher than normal mileage. Looks like I will have to change my nom de plume on here now 😊 Thanks for all the comments and suggestions too, they did help.

  48. I have owned in succession a RX400h (outgoing Executive Limited Edition), a RX450h (SEI) and now a NX300f (F-Sport). Best on your comments, I am assuming that you would be looking at a previous generation RX450h, as opposed to the current one. Size: On paper, the RX is not that much bigger, but you do notice the difference in car parks and along country lanes. The boot in the NX is smaller, but I have never found it to be a problem. The NX is narrower and this can be an issue if you regularly carry 3 passengers in the back, otherwise space is plentiful for two rear passengers, even with the panoramic root. Room at the front is more than adequate. Performance: No doubt about it, the RX is much more powerful, and therefore feels and is a lot faster. Swifter progress, but you pay for it at the pump, although you'll never stop grinning. I never managed to better an average of 29mpg, but that was without trying hard as mpg never was a priority. Comfort: The RX is very comfortable and I travelled (very) long distances at times without suffering from my back etc. The seats are more like armchairs, the suspension is relatively cosetting. My sons tell me that the rear seats are equally as comfortable and the incline of the backrest can be changed to help find your ideal position. Having said this, all of us agree that the NX is equally as comfortable... but in a different way. Firmer suspension with better control around corners and bends, and seats are better sculpted and more supportive in some ways. Personally, I love the seats in the NX F-Sport. Noise: the 6 cylinders of the RX, backed up by laminated (double) glazing and good insulation contribute to a quieter ride. Also, the engine being more powerful, it is less strained under load. The downside is that you notice that it is far more rattly than the NX. Our RX suffered from a rattly back seat that used to drive us mad, plus the odd squeak here and there that would come and go, and friction noise from the front windows against the runners/rubber (never managed to completely get rid of this), depending on the weather and the outside temperature. On the other hand, absolutely no parasite noise in the NX and I find the engine noise well controlled... until you need to hurry up a hill. Technology: The RX is an older design than the NX. As a result, you get more toys in the NX - depending on trim level of course - and they are more up to date. At the end of the day, I'd recommend the NX over a previous generation RX450h. Unless you want the performance and the space, the NX is a better compromise, it arguably looks better, is cheaper to run... and for the same amount of cash you will get a much newer car. Now if I had to make the choice between the current RX and the NX, I'd plump for the RX!

  49. I believe we had multiple threads about different options so sorry for starting it all over. However, I wanted to create single one where we have a list of recommended bulbs for each application. To begin with making a clear distinction between 2 options. As we all know there are HID/Xenon set-up and Halogen set-up. High beam and parking lights would be the same, but the Main beam cannot be more different. 2 main criteria are Colour and Light output (strength): So the light output is calculated in Lumens (lm) and the higher the better, here is where I guess many people get it confused with colour and latter is not "the higher is the better. Colour is represented by kelvins and the "higher is the bluer", quick introduction into Kelvin rating as well: Based on the scale above Halogens are in the range between 2500-4500. I believe standard Lexus ones were 4300k giving nice white colour though quite weak (in lm). Anything below 3000k I consider vintage or fog. Not sure about Lexus parking/side lights, but they are same for both types, yellowish ~3000k. High beam is the same for both cars again, I believe it to be similar temp as HID/Xenon ~ 5500K. This is as well around the range I prefer - I don't really like anything above 6000K aka blue light (or aka cheap xenon/LED kits). As well I have adjustable video light with 3200K to 6500K range. I personally found that ~5300K is perfect for my taste, so I guess anything between 5000-5500k would be ok. Xenon/HID Recommendation: High beam (standard 5500K/~?lm) - I believe it is HB3 are there any LED options? It seems that best HB3 bulb I can find is ~1700/1800lm which is fairly weak. Main beam D2S (standard 5500k/~2400lm) - Osram XENARC COOL BLUE INTENSE (sounds scary blue, but it is actually 5500k), Cool Blue is as well rated at 3200lm whilst "Night Breakers" and "Long Life" are both rated 2800lm and colour is 4350k (kind of towards yellow at least on paper). There are as well Phillips Xenon White vision ~ price range £65-85 Side light T10 - PHILIPS XTREME VISION 360 LED T10, there are 4000/6000/8000k versions ~£13-17 Halogen Recommendation: (LED/Xenon conversion kits are illegal to use in UK due to "construction and use" and therefore I would like to avoid recommending any of these). High beam (standard 5500K/~?lm) - I believe it is HB3 are there any LED options? Main beam - I believe it is H7 , what are the best options? Side light T10 - PHILIPS XTREME VISION 360 LED T10, there are 4000/6000/8000k versions ~£13-17 I am not sure if I am going to be able to edit an original post due to changes in forum, but I guess I will summarise suggestion in a new post.
