  1. All MOTs pre 2006 will not "exist" when checking online as the test was not "computerised" yet.

  2. I did the same over the Christmas period. Not a lexus but a Merc. Needed two new lower ball joints on the front and a full alignment. I’m still fighting the council, their stance at the mo is that as I can’t prove ownership (V5 is not ownership proof according to them), I can’t claim. My solicitor is now stepping in. I hope you are both ok. Get home and have a nice hot drink. Deal with Lexus on the morning.

  3. Hi Buddy. I’m loving it. I’ve not been well so only just starting to get out in it. Full service completed including cam belt and pump. Mechanic said it was a cracking car and very clean underneath. Ill get some photos once the sun comes out. Wrinkles: 1. Passenger memory buttons don’t work. 2. Headlamp washers broken. 3. Front grille had been painted body colour….. so I bought a salvage one which is very clean. Fitted that today. Ive ordered the throttle controller which should be with me next week. Oh and discovered why it sounded so sweet. Back box has been replaced with stainless pipes straight through. Perfect mix of sound without offending the neighbours. I have a question for everyone…… On these wet roads, the front tyres feel like they’ll break away very easily….. Good tread on budget tyres but I don’t actually think they are the issue. It just feels very light which it can’t be with that engine above them!

  4. Thank you Malcolm for your very clear and detailed fix and glad to hear that it worked for you. However as someone who is not that tech savvy when it comes to actual resets etc, and with respect, if part of the work was not understandable and scary for you.... then I have decided to leave well alone. It is such an annoyance, disappointment, and shame that a high end luxury expensive vehicle should have these ongoing MultiMedia /app type of problems, and at the same time told by the media of excellent Lexus reliability. Like many others I have lost count of the number of 'updates' for phones, PCs, apps, etc over the years with no problems whatsoever. I will try to ignore the let down and hope that between now and the next service, some further fix 'update' becomes available although that in it self could be scary !! I wonder how many Lexus owners up and down the country have the same issue right now.

  5. My renewal price £736 vs £659 last year. Happy with that after reading all the crazy prices others are asked to pay. With NFU who are top rated. 67 year old. Full no claims. East Yorks.

  6. Max hi, I suspect the owner just gave up driving and couldn't bear to part with his car and laid it up for a while ....... garaged and washed sometimes and hence tiny mileage ...... possibly a totally rust free car ................... with even the Y pipe good for another 100k miles 🤣 The vendor will give it all a spruce-up and regular service and a fresh MOT ............... might last another 33 years even doing 10k miles per annum If I bought such a car I would just use her as a main car and get the full enjoyment from such wonderful motoring As I do ......... driving around in a pair of elderly Ls400s is utter JOY Malc

  7. Thanks @Malc1 I will try Chris as well @H3XME thanks - I will be starting the direct ring around today as well. Thanks for the further recommendation on the Mazda, will take a good look this weekend.

  8. Firmer sportier than the ES, as to be expected It is slower 0-30 without the instant hybrid push, but once it picks up in the higher revs it feels more capable. Not missing the rear seat space as I pretty much drive alone anyway, in terms of equipment it is almost the same, sunroof, CarPlay, heated seat and wheel etc, I do really like the heads up display but am really missing the auto start from indoors on a cold morning. The Bose setup is better than the standard Pioneer but no where near the ML I have averaged 30ish around town and hope to get the 45+ on my motorway trip later, so economy is looking OK. I was getting 45-55 in the ES My insurance has halved

  9. Bear in mind that I am no expert and have no inside knowledge so I can only tell you what I think - You've guessed it, disclaimer coming up! I bear no responsibility for what may happen to your system. Of course, everything should be recoverable. In my case, I felt obliged to take some risk as my dealer is 160 miles away. Remember, I'm using an Android phone. If you have Lexus Link Plus version 2.5.2 installed and it was working okay before you did the OTA Navigation Services and Voice Services update, I would leave that alone to start with. If the following doesn't get you going, I would "Clear cache" in the app (from the phone's Settings\Apps\Storage) and try again. If it still didn't work, I would also then "Clear storage" (same place) and try again. Only if the problems persisted would I: clear both caches, delete and reinstall the app. If Lexus Link Plus wasn't working okay before the OTA update; personally, I'd go straight for the reinstall. Now for the scary bit (only because I don't really understand why this works). With the car in Ready mode, in the car Settings, go to Info & Security and press Reset, heed the warning that this will delete your profile. Your personal Info, Bluetooth, etc should be gone, if not, try a reset again. I think I also pressed the Reset option in the Personal Info section as well. Be patient, the car seems a bit slow to respond sometimes; I think it may have to connect with Lexus servers. This delay, and my impatience, may be the reason that I ended up doing 3 resets, I just didn't wait long enough for the first Reset to register. Next I went back to Info & Security. This time, the screen was different, it had 3 agreement options (Not Agree, Agree with Multimedia, Agree with Multimedia and Voice, - or something like that) instead of the two agreement options seen hitherto. Also, the displayed QR code was different, denser, than I had seen before. I scanned the QR code and almost instantly was taken to the next screen. My app was now showing the mileage, charge state, location, last recorded journey, etc as expected. I then went through the Infotainment Settings screens from top to bottom. I found some of my preferences needed to be set again (such as linking my key, pairing with my phone) but others were remembered, presumably stored along with my account info at Lexus. Touch wood, several on/off cycles and a couple of journeys later, and all seems to be well and the connection arrows have remained blue (connected) since performing the above. Hope this helps and works for you. Good Luck!

  10. I have a phase 4 facelift GS450h Premier, and previously had a pre-face lift GS450h Premier. The premier and f sport GS450h have larger front disc brakes and 17” wheels will not fit. I am unsure about the GS300h. The Newer car has 19” wheels, the ride is OK, but the tyres and wheels are more likely to be damaged by kerbs and bumps I think. The facelift drives and rides better than the previous model. I would get the facelift if you can. My notes are below: I have listed the differences between the pre and post face-lift premier cars. Face lift has the Lexus Safety System + LSS+ - Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) - Pre-Crash Safety system (PCS) - Lane Keep Assist (LKA) - Sway Warning - Traffic Signal Recognition (TSR) - Automatic High Beam system Facelift has Blind spot BSM and rear cross traffic alert RCTA, Pre-face-lift only has Blind spot indicator. Head-up display. This became available in around 2015 in the GS as I think an optional extra. It is standard in the facelift. Headlights. Facelift has 3 Eye LED headlamps with AHS (Adaptive High-beam System) Pre face lift has headlights that point toward direction of steering, but do not blank out light to other road users on full beam. Interior. Facelift analogue clock is automatically set by GPS or similar which is handy whereas pre-facelift car is manually set. Main display is split screen so two different items may be displayed, Sat Nav is updated, though there appears to be no speed limit display or recognition on the sat nav that I can find. Steering wheel display is much more comprehensive, the LSS+ features can be set here. Heated steering wheel with wood rim in facelift, compared with full leather no heating in older car. Display controls in front of armrest are more comprehensive and better. Rear camera picture quality is markedly improved in facelift. Seat patterns are slightly different but the seats feel and adjust the same. In the facelift I have set the seat heating so it come on when the car starts and stays on at 3 bars, features I could not do in previous car. Driving; comparing a 25k newer car with a 80k older car. The steering on the facelift is much more direct and not at all vague. The suspension is much better, with fewer crashes in potholes and none of the very slight swaying in older car. I would have thought the engine and transmission are pretty much identical, and the consumption figures so far a very similar (about 40mpg in summer.) Drive mode for facelift includes the ‘customise’ setting where you can specify desired throttle response, suspension and eco/normal aircon settings. I was worried that the ride would be harsh on the 19” wheels compared to the older car’s 18” wheels, but it is fine. Overall the facelift is a better car due to the improved steering, suspension, LSS+ features and displays.

  11. Transferring a private plate to a new (unregistered) car is quick and simple. Transferring to a pre-registered or secondhand car is a little more involved. My dealer sorted everything for me in both cases, only the timescale was longer for the secondhand transfer, waiting for the DVLA to process things but even then it was only 5-7 days

  12. I’ve had a private number plate for 25+ years and have never heard anything like this from any dealer! Usually they simply have the whole thing sorted by the time I collect any new vehicle seemingly without any involvement from me!

  15. The comparison sites generally offer dates 1-month in advance of the policy start date. So I took out a new policy as soon as I could, then two weeks later saw exactly the same policy and company on another comparison site for around £240 cheaper (nuts I know). So cancelled the first policy before it started and took out the cheaper option, (cost £20 in admin to cancel, but I did get a £15 Amazon voucher for taking out the policy initially).

  16. Make sure you try several of the comparison sites as well, I found significant differences in the prices for the same company & policy.

  17. Yes dealers can do it. I think a lot of people don’t seem to bother unless they get faults on the dash coming up. To be fair I would think there is probably only going to be issues if the adjustments to the alignment required were quite large. After I had my alignment done I checked the steering angle sensor and it still read zero in the straight ahead position, similarly the yaw sensor read zero too. That said, I did carry out zero point calibration using techstream which is free to download if you’re reasonably tech savvy; you need a cable too to connect to OBD port to a laptop. If you get one make sure it’s firmware version 2.0.4, the lower firmware versions have limited functionality; most on eBay seem to be the lower firmware. You should be able to set yourself up with all you need for about £70 for dealer level diagnostics software which can read all ECUs on the car and perform error code reading/resets and configurations/calibrations. The process for zero point calibration is straight forward, the hardest thing was finding some level ground with less then 1 degree variation!

  18. An interesting and useful comparison. My car is a GS300h Premier, pre face lift. A couple of nit-picks: My car has RCTA and head-up display. It has 18" wheels and the larger discs - I didn't know 17" wheels wouldn't fit but can well believe it. The sat nav shows speed limits (not always accurately, but my last map update was 2019). I think that improvements/spec changes are incremental and come in randomly during model life, so some pre face lift will have features that others don't and that probably carries on for post face lift as well. I don't think the ride is all that wonderful - I'd agree with the post somewhere that gave it 6/10. I understand that pre facelift cars are Euro V and post are Euro VI My road tax is £25 per annum. I love my car and expect to keep it for many years!

  20. To be fair the exhaust on the LS400s were factory stainless steel with the exception of the Y pipe so will all look this good. How much crud has accumulated inside the rear wheel arch lips is a better indication of care along with the condition of the rear subframe and suspension components. I must confess the driver’s seat looks as new with none of the cracking or wear normally present.

  21. All Lexus hybrid's suffer from poor 12v battery life which is a problem if you rarely use the vehicle but you are using it enough. Assuming you don't have something added to the vehicle that is consuming power (e.g. dash cam, tracker) and if it is still under warranty all you can do is take it back again - maybe record a video when you have issues to prove there is an issue.

  22. How often do you drive your car, and how far? Potentially you may not be driving it enough for the car to recharge the battery. You don't keep your key fob very near your car do you? If it is within communication distance it can consume more power (ideally you should keep your key far away and in a Faraday pouch to stop the risk of a relay theft attack).

  23. Hopeless aren't they. My car with a private plate on isn't recognised on the app, or sometimes if I book it in for service. Yet it's recognised on price compare and car parts internet sites. I've told them, and can't be bothered to tell them again.

  24. Indeed. It should hardly be the first time they have p/x a vehicle with a private plate.

  25. In that case it looks like a duff head unit, or else a connector isn't seated correctly. Time to get the radio out and check over all the connectors there.

  27. Being new to Lexus ownership I had high hopes for the 10 year warranty, but was slightly sceptical. Had to take my newly acquired RCF to Lexus Edinburgh, having not noticed on purchasing that only cold air was coming out on the passenger side. Additionally, drivers seatbelt wasn't retracting too well. It was a private purchase, but with full DSH. Superb dealer experience really well looked after and no charge for diagnosis. The entire passenger heater box needs to be replaced, along with the seatbelt. Non warranty cost is £3k ! Covered in full, without hesitation, subject to taking a couple of weeks to get the parts. Shows the value in dealer servicing, especially as these cars age.

  29. DRS now completely fixed, it was the DRS ECU. I looked at the mechanics of the Steering rack, very simple, very robust, would be supprised if this was to fail so assumed it wasn't the failure point. My orignal fault code was "C1241 Low Power Supply Voltage Malfunction (Presumed due to the previous Low battery) which I replaced, I had to jump start the car at this point. Then I got a new error C1B17. On Tis, if the ECU reports "C1B17 Motor Rotation Angle Mismatch (Stroke Sensor)" it says replace the rack, this obviously assumed the ECU is not defective. This was my original fault after I noticed on the live data I had no supply perminent 12v supply to the PIG Power Supply, The ECU was reporting 0.46v but should be between 11 and 14v, I measured the Feed and it was 12v, so the ECU was not seeing this. My Brother who is an electronics genius disassembled the ECU up to a point and noticed lots of "Dry Joints" soldered them up, reinstalled and the ECU was then reporting 12v. BINGO! Note that the ECU is servicible but lots and lots of pins will need to be desoldered, luckly for me I didn't have to go down this path, note the following link which shows a similar ECU used in the Toyota Camry - Russian Site with Disassembled ECU I now needed to test the steering and set the Neutral Position and Calibrate the actuatior (I had previously reset this), note jacking point to do this in picbelow, chock the front wheels! If you follow the steps in Techstream to memorize neutral and calibrate the rear steering it won't work because Techstream is wrong (or at least my version is 16.00.020), you need to cycle the ignition on and off between steps to presumably put the ECU in programming mode, once done the rear ECU actuated the steering, store the callibration and everything was back to normal. 30. Yeah, I didn't actually know until I got my F-sport that it had rear steering so didn't do any research before purchase but anecdotally its hard to know if it's a likely issue - here in Ireland there can't be more than a handful so you would think from 2 failures there is a big issue but from other responses on here and my own searching on various forums here in UK and US there was hardly anyone else posting about this issue. I spoke two 2 dealers and a Lexus specialist in the UK on the phone who claimed they'd never seen this issue themselves if that helps at all. Maybe speak to some Scottish dealers and see if they've seen any incidents. It would be a shame to put you off as the f-sport 450h is awesome.

  31. Quick update: The rear rack was fixed at a total cost of about 4.1k Euro - 1K euro for fitting + ECU and other stuff I had done + 3.1k Euro for the unit itself which included Delivery + VAT + duty. I ordered the required rear steering part from Amayama Japan and it arrived after a few weeks - I must say their service is incredible! Lexus Galway fitted it no problems and will warranty the work/unit for 12m. The ECU controlling the steering unit had also fried which was another ~2.5K euros (!) but luckily they had one from another customer and sold it to me for 10% of the price. So, in the end an expensive fix, but the original price was well north of 12k so I think I did well enough to get costs down thanks to this great forum. Cheers to everyone who replied. Damien

  32. Iv'e just hit a massive pothole here at Gatwick. The police are attending, but my wife and I are really shaken by this. It's over 2 meters in size and 6 inches deep, the car took a very hard blow. I've put into the council a report of what's happened in case of any damage. As for the car itself, it seems to be OK, but by the sound of what happened I'm sure some damage must have taken place. What's best now to proceed, do you think. The local Lexus dealer will charge around £150 for a quick look i'm sure

  33. When I decided to replace my IS with a UX the Lexus dealer said they couldn’t take my car in P/x with the private plate on it as it was against the law ( what a load of crap ) anyway I said not a problem I will put it on retention so had to wait 5 days until the logbook turned up, it turned up Saturday so I arranged to collect the UX today, got to dealership then they told me they couldn’t take my car in P/x today because upon hpi check it was showing the wrong registration number, I said I wasn’t going to go home in my old car because the insurance changed to the new car from 1200 today so ended up coming away with an NX on there insurance until the hpi check had sorted itself out. This doesn’t give me much confidence in the company.

  34. Was tempted by a spare wheel cover from Japan. £45. Tried to add it onto my order but the buggers wanted to charge shipping for cover as an individual item, not as part of original order. Not sure it would fit over my spare anyway as it is 10mm wider than OEM. Towel will have to do for now! Gone off idea of taking it to Spain now, sadly. 1. It would burn 4000 of my 5000 miles on insurance. 2. Cannot take two folding bicycles. 3. Will be no space for wine and souvenirs. 4. Will cost £600 more in fuel, which affects number 3 above! Jazz it has to be. May try for a smaller Euro trip later in the year.

  35. The likelihood is your Insurer will notate your account as a change of car and when the LBX goes live will retro quote the premium adjustment. As long as they have the registration number, make, version etc you won't be left without cover, particularly if you are down sizing one Lexus for a newer entry model Lexus. If you insure through Lexus Insurance then you will also have that added protection. Not a good luck for any own brand insurance product if their new LBX owners are left hanging and if the Police have cause to stop you they will likely ask you why your registration number doesn't match the car model. At least you will be able to explain the background.
