Except I have an SE-L so there's not a lot I can do about that. 🤣 That's the thing with old barges, once you have got yours up to snuff it's generally ill-advised to trade for another as you'll be inheriting an unknown quantity. I'll probably just end up doing what I can within the confines of the spare wheel well. I replaced the access hatch for the rear a/C filter as one of the clips had broken and it made me ponder if I could use it for other stuff. Whilst it's not useful for everyone, I've found the SE-L is a great family roadtrip machine though, I love sitting in the back with my daughter whilst Mrs D chauffeurs. The coolbox is decent enough for keeping cold beverages at hand too. A/C powered coolboxes are never as good as a proper fridge but I'd say this one is better than the ones I've had in the front of various cars, presumably because of the rear a/c unit. Only problem is fitting all the luggage in around your legs, sort of tempers the luxury vibe somewhat 😋

  5. Mate we can't get them as far as Rwanda so Mars is a none starter. We should be talking to the Danes about using the Faroe islands ,much more accessable, but as Scott says' "the sun ain't going to shine anymore" for them. Better still use the Falkland islands then let Argentina have them back in a few years time! We've done it again EV values to ?

  6. We passed a tipping point a few years ago - the majority of the UK population now get more from the government in public expenditure and tax credits / benefits than they put in. A smaller and smaller top slice of the population are paying for nearly everything. The top 10% of earners pay more than 50% of all income tax. The top 1% pay 28%. And 40p? Top rate of tax is 45p plus 2p national insurance - meaning 47% of every £1 earned disappears. And if you’re lucky / unlucky enough to earn between £100k and £125k, your marginal tax rate is *60%*. It’s a small miracle anyone still works hard and pays taxes. I am however very grateful for anyone who buys a new car - as without those purchases, there’d never be any used cars for everyone else to benefit from…

  7. The mansion we are staying at, the owner lives on the middle floor, we have the top. Lower floor she just does not use...we have to use it to access the pool. Done out in a Moroccan stylee.

Not adding much to the discussion, but I've always felt its a bit miserly and penny pinching working out tyre cost, miles per gallon and "I can change my own oil", after all you're buying at £40k+ luxury branded car! Fill up when needed, replace tyres when they reach the legal limit, service as required. Enjoy your premium purchase and relax. If I wanted to worry about all those trivial things I'm have bought a JAAAG, and an AA rescue subscription 😂

  11. Changed my car to LBX on my policy with Dial Direct and paid £442.82 including RAC and Motor Legal Protection. As I was lucky to get my car within a couple of days of making the deal, I didn't bother getting any other quotes.

  12. I would assume that the desirability of the 450h+ would produce a much higher residual value at the end of the contract compared with the 350h models. Thus the significantly lower monthly payments despite the probably higher interest charge of the original capital sum.

  13. I have no experience with current FWD vs. AWD, but have driven new RAV-4 hybrid AWD, which has similar drivetrain to NX350h. Also I have driven last gen NX. First thing - hybrids are not "true" AWD i.e. there is no drive shaft going to the rear, instead they have electric motor in the rear. So for most part there should be no difference in fuel consumption and how the car drives in straight line i.e. there is no drive train loses etc. Sure AWD model will be slightly heavier (maybe 40-50kg), but that would be really trivial impact. Now as far as handling, AWD is surprisingly good, I hate how FWD cars drive with passion, but in NX AWD it really doesn't bother me, despite it basically being FWD car with extra motor tagged in the rear. This is because traction control is quite clever and rear motor acts almost like torque vectoring differential (actually probably exactly like it), so in corner exit and under acceleration car rotates nicely and doesn't understeer like FWD. So even thought it is obviously not sports car it doesn't have that FWD car feeling that I hate, sort of overloaded front axle, fidgeting steering under acceleration, it does actually feel for all intended purposes like well adjusted AWD system. Obviously, rear will never "step out" and it will never power slide, but it works well for reducing understeer and overall gives nice neutral balance. As for drivability, obviously AWD will have an edge in mild offroad, slush, snow, mud etc. Not sure how much of that is relevant in Hampshire, but I was driving one in real winter conditions and in one occasion it literally made the difference between crashing and not crashing (long story, but I am quite convinced I would have crashed if I were in FWD), also it climbed steep slippery hill (be it in 3rd attempt and with some run-up), FWD would have stayed at the bottom of that hill. So that rear motor is not just for fun, it does it's job. If you planning just to drive it in the city or only on motorway, then perhaps it doesn't add much value, but in adverse weather conditions it does help. Tyres shouldn't be a problem, also I believe it is square set-up so they can be rotated anyway. Finally, as mentioned most cars that are in UK and available to buy are AWD, so to get FWD you would need to make it to order, which kind negates any savings on purchase and would mean at least 3 months wait time. Lexus is known to be a company that does not negotiates the price, especially not on NX which are selling quite well anyway, but I guess if you make that proposition that you looking to buy FWD and would only consider AWD if the price is somewhat adjusted, then maybe it would work. For example I just looked at carwow and they reckon you can get AWD for better price than FWD. Meaning Lexus can discount some of the AWDs because they have them in UK, but they are not willing to discount FWDs because they would need to make them to order. I have no idea how carwow comes up with monthly payments (as it seems 450h+ would work out cheaper, maybe some government grand?), but it just shows that price difference between AWD and FWD does not exist in practice, which should also reflect to any pricing in dealership in person.

Having recently acquired a 2018 ct200 I have the impression there is very little out there to compare with it for the level of comfort it gives me, it is 20yrs since I last had a Car as comfortable as this and that was a Volvo, quite amazing to me for such a small Hatchback, being an old coffin dodger in my early 70's this is likely to be the last Car I will ever buy, them Meerkats found me a good price for my insurance, however I am fortunate to live in Scotland where there is less thieving Bar Stewards around. The majority of the Cars I have owned (not that many) in 50yrs of motoring I would buy them at 3 to 4yrs of age and keep them 10yrs or more, this being far cheaper for Car ownership than changing every few years, every time you change Cars this costs a lot of money. So I would say to you if you have had trouble free motoring for the 3yrs you have owned your CT, also if it has everything you need in a Car? KEEP IT, there is just so much unreliable rubbish out there, I had the chance of a Corolla one year younger at the same price same mileage, strange the insurance group 19e against the CT at 17e another strange thing a 2016 CT with the same spec was also 19e. There is not a lot of Ct's up here in them there hills and quite a few of my friends and neighbours have remarked on how smart it looks, in my own opinion both the front and rear of the car is smarter than any of the rest and the side view is not bad either, mind you it is not likely to appeal to someone that drives a C-HR but they must have a mental health issue?

It would be interesting to see what other people would spend £70K on - put it in the bank? World cruise? Second hand Morgan and a cheaper runabout. If only......

  18. Paul had seen it once before, he said. He was pretty confident on the phone prior, that this may be the issue. I guess it is a tricky manoeuvre to crush the tensioner in the vice, insert the pin, bolt it into position and then pull the pin. He adjusted for 2 teeth, but after rotating through 2 cycles the marks were still 1 tooth off, so the routine happened twice. He loosened the bank 1 cap so he could see the marks between the halves. Great knowledge. Apart from a thorough checkover, Paul also adjusted the parking brakes and linkage, pads and discs ok for at least 12 months There was one code remaining, a B1248 LAN issue, but this due to the fact that the radio was in my workshop at home🥴 A few computer tweaks were also done. Windscreen nozzles cleared and aimed. Window operation on key fob Auto rain sensors set wipers to intermittent when car stationary.

  23. Just spoke to Lexus and been told the hardware solution (not the plates, and whatever it is, could be a software update) is due sometime in May. They don't know details of what will be updated/changed, neither do Lexus UK (or whomever the dealership spoke to on their Lexus network). I've started a new job, so travelling down south just went from once a month to daily! Just hoping the roll-out is fast and is done as a recall so everyone gets done, and then the baddies won't be able to play pot luck with us, as all cars will be done.

  24. On a happier note. I visited Paul (ToyotaTech Guildford) this morning. Due to no current MOT I needed to trailer it there obviously. Since changing the valve solenoid the only codes were the misfire on bank 2, thats cylinders 2, 4, 6 & 8. First thing to check was the suspected timing belt. This had been replaced 12,000 miles ago. sure enough it was 3 teeth astray. within 30 minutes she was purring like a kitten. A quick reset of the VSC ABS in fact the Yaw Rate sensor and she’s good as new. IMG_0618.mov

  25. The other factor now is the ZEV mandate. Manufacturers, and thus dealers, need to ensure 22% of their vehicles sold in the UK this year have an EV certificate credit. They can get a certificate by selling an EV, borrowing against a future year, buying certificates from other manufacturers (e.g. Tesla)… or earn partial credits by reducing their fleet emissions (as it’s the government, there’s of course a complex formula to work that out). This latter point helps PHEVs as their emissions are a quarter or less of a typical car now - so more incentives to sell PHEVs can be expected, just as manufacturers (including Lexus) are now offering ridiculous discounts on new EVs. Every certificate (car) short of the 22% will cost the manufacturer £15k per vehicle - so there’s big money on the line. Much better to e.g. give a £8k PCP deposit contribution (as Honda have for their EV) or other discounts on PHEVs, than pay a £15k penalty later!

I heard this morning that the house of Lords have passed the bill to send illegal immigrants to Mars and that trips start in about 12 weeks? Time to start packing methinks.

  30. Same dilemma here.The YCP isn’t available yet to my knowledge but as it’s narrower and higher it may win out for me. Also don’t like a can of spray foam as a spare wheel although it wouldn’t be a deal breaker. Just have to try both when available. I do fancy the Tacomi edition with better sound proofing and memory seat though…

  31. OK... based on the facts as disclosed, the resistor is not the problem. Plus, bypassing the resistor should have applied 12V to the pump and the car would run at all times normally albeit with a little more noise from the pump as it would be running constantly at high speed. Therefore you must have a problem with your 12V supply to the pump. There is nothing in the simple on/off fuel pump control that can change the pump speed/supply voltage gradually. It should be either 12V or a fixed lower voltage as determined by the value of the resistor. If you check the temperature of the FP relay after you have been driving for a while, it should not be any more than hand warm. If it is too hot to hold your hand on then it is likely that the relay contacts have arcing corrosion and the relay should replaced. Replacing the relay will also eliminate the possibility of a dry solder joint inside the relay. I mention that as dry joints can be responsible for faults that require a "cool down" period before the engine can be re-started. It is a feature of DC motors driving a fixed load, that if the supply voltage is reduced the current drawn will increase. That accounts for the resistor getting hot as it is having to dissipate greater than its design wattage. I suggest you first check the power supply to the FP relay to make sure that it is getting a full 12V at all times. If so, the problem is with the relay or one of its wiring connections. Cheers...

  32. Can't compare FWD against AWD as I've only ever owned AWD models (NX300h and NX450h+) but all I can say is that they were fantastic cars, totally reliable, relaxing to drive and very fuel efficient given the size and weight.

  35. I can't afford it, but if I was working 60 hour weeks and had the means, I'd definitely to it. I pass some outstanding houses on the way to work, and very rarely, see a supercar level Porsche or McLaren parked at the back of the car park. And frankly, no matter what I do, there is a 99% chance I'll never be able to afford it. But I admire the people who are living that lifestyle. In this world, it's very unlikely they're being given that money for nothing. My presumption is they're working (or have worked) extremely hard and that's simply the fruit of their labour. Today I sat around in between work typing on this forum, it's obvious to me that while I do work hard, I'm not doing anything to the extent that I deserve anybody's millions for what I do. Nor is what I do, something that anyone else can't spend a few months learning to be able to do the same or better It always annoys me when people get salty about people who are 'well off' or successful financially. I'm not talking about GMB in particular. More so my generation of mid / late 20s people who are just so salty and rather than working hard to get there, they sit around and blame systems and governments for 'keeping them down' despite the fact they've never even tried. More power to the people driving around in the fruits of their labour. And anyway, it's a small group of 'those 1% people' who pay for I think the bottom 20% of income earners NHS and other things, doesn't 40p of every £1 they earn get taken, just like that?! Personally, I think there's a case that that's unfair.. And anyway, I get an odd satisfaction just knowing that the Lexus LC500 exists, and that even though I've got a lower spec, older CT, which is a little touch of some 'luxury' for me, I like the aspirational link there. It's a little like having a poster of a bikini model on your wall, even if you know you don't have a chance with her, aren't you just a bit happier to know people like that exist, and that they're walking around as we all live life? No point getting angry and bitter if you don't 'have one' lol

  36. One of the reasons I didn't go for the SE-L was the small boot. While all the extra bells and whistles may sound good in the golf club bar, just how many times do you use them? Rear air-conditioning may be useful in southern USA or the Middle East but how many times do you REALLY need it in the UK. The reclining/massaging seats are great if you have a chauffeur or regularly carry someone with a bad back. And, in this age of I-pads, tablets and smart phones, do you really need the entertainment system? The 'normal' boot is huge and I love it. Just my tuppence worth...........

  38. There are plenty of reasons why an accurate time frame cannot be given for product delivery. Delays in R&D, testing, manufacture, international shipping, local distribution, availability of tech to train/instruct on how to install, just to name a few. Even with all that sorted you still have the challenge of customer availability too!

  42. Collected my Honda E:Ny1 yesterday, nice drive home and still some battery left. Sad to leave the nx at the Honda dealer but that’s life. To rank my previous cars I would say the LS400 was best, LS430 next, then NX followed by GS300, IS300 then IS200. The most exciting was the Lexus Club events in the mid 1990’s. The Honda is superb, dealership not so good so far. Paperwork took a little time to match the deal we had agreed! Told me I could match the MyHonda+ app with my car at home, then find it needs a Honda mechanic with access to Telematics the first time. Then find the flat tyre compressor is missing from the boot. To be fair they have dealt with these issue very quickly. Likes over the nx. Really huge infomation screen. Touch screen instead of that crazy Lexus touch pad. Wireless Apple CarPlay, Apple Maps full screen top, Apple Music in the middle and dedicated air conditioning below. Genius. NO ENGINE NOISE during acceleration, just a quiet whoosh. Lights come on with fast wipers automatically. Doors close as quietly at the nx. Look and feel quality 99% of the nx. No visits to petrol pumps. Free servicing. Yearly safety inspections. Transmission checks at 100,000 miles, battery and control checks at 150,000 miles. Dislikes. Not a Lexus, I’ll miss the coffee at Lexus Milton Keynes. I know I’ll miss the attention to detail during servicing. Lexus Sheffield and Milton Keynes were exceptional. The around 200 mile range of the Honda won’t be an issue with our current needs. The RZ ev was too big and just too expensive. The UX ev too small and too expensive. Leaving mainly because our driving distances have reduced but the risk of theft has been a factor. If it doesn’t work out I’ll be back.

  44. Told at Lexus dealer service last year my bushes were going to need replacing and was given a price circa £1500 so will be looking for less expensive alternative. Have to establish whether my car having air suspension has same trailing arms as coil sprung models.

  47. I mean I drove mine 150 miles from the dealership to home and it did over 35mpg sitting at 75mph. It used less than 10% of the hybrid battery too. Economy seems to be better than my RX450h in town so far and this thing is properly quick in comparison. Rides a lot better than my previous RX as well.

  48. I read somewhere that the cost of one suspension strut was in four figures, and that there are no aftermarket suppliers. The car was sagging at one corner, and I knew the strut had failed. At 20 years old, the other three struts had a limited life expectancy. My insurers valued my car at £1100 at the time, so converting to coil springs and shock absorbers was a no-brainer for me. I used Toyota and KYB components and my insurers did not consider it to be a modification. A good result all round.

You certainly shouldn't expect an improvement in mpg after a service if you keep to the schedule - the service schedule is designed to replace parts before they degrade the operation of the engine/vehicle (e.g. the plugs would probably go on for another 40k miles without issue, although you start to run a slight risk of tips breaking off and causing damage to the cylinders). The dealer may have disconnected the battery during the service - a reset of the ECU will mean it could take a couple of weeks to relearn everything back to your driving style.
