  1. David.. You Have The most Wonderfull car But Just out of Sheer Curiosity Was Your car Built in Japan Or Canada ? This Might Have No Relevance Whatsoever But I did watch a video Recently which Suggested that Lexus cars built in Canada were not so Maticulously Built As Opposed to the Cars rolling of the Production line In Japan ..That of course does Not mean your car is not of the same Calibre and Distiction as any other Lexus Built Car but the video did seem to suggest that The build Was Ever so slightly Better... Another possible Point To Consider Is That when you hear A Crackle or Creak Coming from Your car Once your Mindset Registers This It has the Capability of Making us Concentrate on this Noise and then Everytime you switch on the vehicle Your first Thought is to Focus entirely on what you expect to Hear.. In Effect The car Takes over your Rational way of Thinking..I Have done this myself in the past as i,m sure lots of L.O.C. members have too...Try What Social Scientists call Systematic Scepticism I.e. ( Making yourself A Stranger in a world That is Familiar to You )..Or On Another Pretext Walking in to your Home as if its the First Time as a Stranger and see How your perception Changes.. I Could be entirely Wrong on both counts david And this is my opinion Only But I hope that possibly Gives a little Scientific Thought to the Problem .......

  2. Well guys, I bought it. I got it down to £13k. Taking a bit of a loss on my Avensis but that was always going to be the case (floated it on AT a few times - no interest). They've agreed to polish all the scratches out of it - it's quite rough in person scratch wise. And to repair the alloys (one has a big metal edge scrape) - and to valet the interior as it's a tad.. mouldy inside (but I've seen this on a lot of other cars, even 25k+ newer Mercs for sale that were sitting). I think how rough and unloved it looks in person is why it's been sitting - that, for the former 14.3k price wouldn't interest anyone. Not least a seasoned Lexus buyer. But for £13k and the promise of having it corrected, I was quite happy. I own a 2018 Avensis which has the dreaded BMW diesel engine - that's pretty much the main reason I'm selling it as I don't like what I'm seeing with owners experiencing catastrophic or costly failures on 2016/17 models already and a £3600+ quote for timing chain job by Toyota, who admitted they don't want to do it and haven't done it before, as they say the chain is a lifetime part... Anyway, it was a Toyota without reliability. And it was a bit neglected in the range too. Size was nice, but expensive to fuel and bad MPG of low 40s, in return for no real power. So I went looking for another Toyota or Lexus product. CT200h is perfect. A little smaller, still practical, a bit more thought into the driving experience, petrol (I prefer petrol), hybrid!, pure through and through Toyota engineering with some aspects taken further with the Lexus touches 🙂 In around a week it'll be ready to pick up. I am so so so excited. I appreciate and look after any car I've owned, from truly owned and done cars, to the newer ones in between, but I think this will be the first car I'll own that's truly a car people buy because of it's virtues beyond fitting a price point, or ticking a box, I think this is the first one classed as 'luxury' and one that will very much reward putting a lot of time in polishing, servicing, looking after and driving from 🙂

  3. After my glitch in October, my figures have been gradually increasing and are back to where they once were, very close to the experience of other owners. Average of last 3 charges is 46.8/41.4 with, I think, similar actual distances. I wonder how reliable the app reported distances are? Was my sudden drop in October just an app issue rather than an actual change in range? I suspect it might be as the dash reported range hasn't varied by the same amount; although, naturally, it has decreased with the cold weather.

  4. When I had my handles replaced last week, the service person showed me a list of mods to the new handles, and whilst I didn't make a note of them there was certainly several design changes.

  5. Well, when I got my IS250 I occasionally- when driving at night - would flick from dip to main just to check that they were actually on! I thought the standard lighting was far inferior to my previous Honda Accord. Even more of a surprise was that when I checked with the Lexus dealer if it was possible to upgrade to an HID bulb, I was told my model already had them! So I did fit the Osram Nightbreaker laser Xenarc and they were an excellent upgrade - especially the dipped beam, which gives a brighter, better controlled light along the verges of our country lanes. They are also road-legal in the UK. https://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/d4s-osram-night-breaker-laser-xenarc-220-bulbs-next-generation-pair.html

  7. The seatbelt rattle is a really frustrating one and seems to be due to the use of cheap 'scratchy' plastics on the inside of the B pillar in the NX. In my view these may be appropriate in a Toyota but Lexus should aspire to the quality of say a BMW and banish scratchy plastics from the cabin. They just scream 'cheap'.

  9. I've got this to look forward to when my first road tax is due at the end of August... I'm already dreading it. The 2020 UX I had previously was also just under the limit. I specifically ordered it to be that way. It was the F-Sport with the Tech & Safety and Premium Plus packs. It took it to an 'almost Takumi' spec and at the time it come to something like £39,700 ish. I know... It's a limit which sounds reasonable enough but when you have a look at the costs of new cars these days, especially with the way they've literally gone skywards over the last decade, even some relatively modest cars are now comfortably over £30k. The £40k limit really out to be at least £10k higher now.

  10. I did love the £20/ year too 😀 I am really surprised that most manufacturers don't have a few models at £39,999.

  11. I tried for ages to find a car under £40k but everything had one compromise too many. This then became my justification for “there’s no point paying it on something just over the £40k limit… make the extra luxury payment worthwhile”. Hence a NX 450h+… I do miss the £20/year I used to pay for my Audi, but I don’t regret having to pay the expensive VED at all, as I have a brilliant car I enjoy driving.

  12. Most modern batteries are sealed/AGM so there is never any need to check them or top them up. However, what is needed is to think about what you are doing. Flattening a battery is pretty easy. I flattened my LS430 battery a couple of years ago. I was at the Eurotunnel terminal waiting for my severely delayed train (waited 5 hours) so was sat in the car with the windows open and the radio on for 5 hours. When they finally called my train, I went to start the car and it struggled and would not start. Luckily this is a common issue at the terminal so they had a guy come over with a jump pack and she started fine. I kept the engine running until I was actually on the train (about 30 mins) and then left the ignition off for the trip across to Calais. It started fine in Calais and I had no further problems that trip. When home I ordered a Jump Pack which I then charged, and tested the procedure so I would know what to do if/when it happens again. It is in my spare wheel well and gets topped up every 6 months. The radio, even at low volume draws 10W which is just under 1Amp. In theory a 68Ah battery should last 68 hours at that level, but I was also adjusting the windows and charging my phone, and chances are the car was doing stuff in the background too. It all adds up and in my case after 5 hours the battery didn't have enough oomph left to start the engine.

  15. Another overnight charge and a further drop in with aircon. Prediction is 47.6/40.9. Previous indication was 41.4 but in yesterday's plunging temperatures I only managed a miserable 25 miles before the ICE cut in.

  17. Aux belt done thankfully. Thw Milwaukee bendy ratchet I had bought to work on the Subaru H6 (horizontally opposed, 6 cylinder, space in the engine bay is very very tight) came in very handy. What came off was a Gates belt (so assumingly not the original from 20 years ago) and it's a Dayco off ebay that went back on. Had to ensure everything went back on in the correct orientation but it wasn't too hard. Main thing was figuring out which pulley I needed to rotate sideways to release the pressure/stretch on the belt (a little help from youtube). One pulley/bearing removed for good measure. Might order a few and get em done in advance!

  18. I have a Noco Boost GB40. It fits in the glovebox. I can confirm it jumps a totally dead 300e. You just connect it to the positive and negative terminals on the 12v battery. Turn it on. Press the boost button if the 12v is too dead for the Noco to detect (I had to do that). Start the car. Then with the car still on, turn off the Noco, then disconnect. NB positive first, then negative when connecting. Negative first, then positive when disconnecting.

  19. Interior still unfinished and work in progress. But finally got round to installing the Passenger side RCF seat too. Was supposed to do this ages ago but got very busy and the wiring for the passenger side seat is a lot different to the Driver seat and hence wasn't as straight-forward. Passenger seat has the occupancy detection system which involves a lot more work. Full details on this and many of my other mods on my Instagram page. Here are few photos of the passenger seat now in.

  22. I can see it was first registered in Barrow in Furness, a bit late now but I always avoid cars from the coast it's a bit salty, I'd have asked them to show you the engine bay, looking for rusty pipe clips and bolts, in the current climate there are a lot of cars being used as submarines.

  24. Just some ideas on this, find a relay or fuse (somewhere inside the car easy to reach) and maybe remove that each time - then nobody can start it. Not ideal, but might work. Get a proper good GPS tracker fitted as well, in case if it is fitted it can be tracked by the police? Might lower your insurance too.

  25. Hopefully down your way days like that will be very much the exception to the rule. We’re in the Midlands and it is generally mild here, as you mentioned wet grip and water clearing properties are probably more relevant. I popped into our local dealer, who wanted about £900 to fit 4 Cross Climates. They want £1400 to fit a tow bar too. I’m just sitting on the tow bar install for now. Wanted a dealer to do it really but that’s a lot to stomach. I was thinking £1000 tops…..

  29. I usually change insurers every year, however, for the last three years no-one has been able to beat Chris Knott. Adrian's Flux's quote was double. I don't even bother with comparison websites anymore as they don't come close either. I was about to call Hastings direct to see what they can offer, but can't find a phone number anywhere! Ridiculous

  30. I recommend Red Stuff for daily driving, if you plan any track days go Yellow - though they do report to be a lot more dusty than Red. Yes, both of these pads from EBC have the little notch in them to accept the OEM wear sensors.

  31. Not that we have much choice when it comes to selecting battery size/capacity for cars but, if you do wish to calculate need/usage, then it should be done at 50% of the battery's capacity. In other words, a 68Ah battery will give you 34Ah effective usage before you start causing excessive wear on the battery.

  32. Same! First RCF I drove was actually a white with carbon pack. It felt too boy racer which was weird for a Lexus. And I certainly couldn't feel the difference, in fact the non-carbon I drove after felt faster if anything (which I ended up buying). Realistically they shouldn't have bothered with carbon at all, they should have done weight savings in other places first. It's a lot of money for a 20 KGs saving on an 1800KG car. The funny thing is the standard bonnet is already quite light being aluminium.

  34. Good price for the year and mileage if it has history, sport or not. Kia agent part exchange they probably want rid of. Hard to recognise in black, stand out better in red often with black roof, trim, side mirrors and wheels. Same spec as standard otherwise. the F had the spindle front grill. I've been offered around that price for my 14 plate non S with approx 47k

  35. Firstly I thought the NX built for uk market all came from Japan. I happy to be corrected. regarding the rattles I know its a long shot but when I had one I traced it to the glasses compartment above the rear view mirror. My glasses when in there were causing the rattle which stopped when I removed them or wrapped the cleaning cloth around them.

  36. I would push them a bit harder. I mentioned that I wanted to door handles replaced at my service last September; this didn't happen (no parts) but after problems during the cold spell in December, new parts were ordered but still aren't due in country until 24th January. Apparently, some colours are quicker to get than others but, given the time lag, I would want them on order sooner rather than later. Like you, I didn't have problems last winter when the car was newer and, I think, the winter was milder. I hope that the new door handles are a modified design and don't suffer the same problem after being in use for a year. Owner reports so far are good, no reported problems with the new handles, so hopefully Lexus have found a permanent solution.

  37. Good point about the car tax. I really object to paying the extra. My plan was to buy something just under the £40k. Lots of nice cars in that price range. I obviously forgot about my plan when buying the NX 🙈

  38. Not in the UK myself, but I always like to "investigate" these kind of things just for fun. It looks like in the UK Lexus offered a Sport and a F-Sport. https://mag.lexus.co.uk/high-value-sport-model-leads-new-2017-lexus-ct-range/ The Sport had a more basic trim which could be upgraded to a F-Sport with i.e. sunroof, sensors, smart key entry etc. Maybe that's why you found CT's listed as Sport where some had those options and some don't.

  40. Mine makes a noise like someone dis-embowelling a dalek, I can sometimes hear it in the car, but it does cut off at 15mph. It's only when going forwards. I think if it beeped like a reversing truck (Kia's do this?) would make me want to change my car. Apparently it's a UN directive (UN R138.01) picked up by many countries, to help vulnerable road users to be more aware of almost silent BEVs & PHEVs. You would think that as we've spent £50, 60, 70k on a car we should be able to choose the noise it makes - I'd pick the sound of an ice cream van to upset the expectant children when they see it's me and not the ice cream man coming down the street!! 😂

  41. Something like Stepppy recommends above will do the job. I have one from Aldi which I suspect is a rebranded version of Stepppy’s as the display screen is identical. I used that overnight in the garage once I’d jumped my 300e to get the battery back to a full charge and balanced. If not using the car for a while I would put it on again, once full it will just sit and occasionally condition the battery, it’s designed to be left attached. I used mine on our Kia EV and our Honda during the pandemic when the cars were often not used for weeks and weeks. About once a month I would put them on a float charge and never ran into any issues. One of these, plus the Noco, covers you with prevention and if the worst happens cure. No need to worry about the 12v letting you down then 👍

  44. Got the letter from Lexus in December and contacted my dealership - got reply about being busy and closure over Christmas and they would be in touch - still waiting, so end of last week contacted my “local” Lexus service dealer (they cannot sell Lexus but can service them) they said ok we can get the keys in a couple of days when do you want to come in it takes about 1/2 hr so we will fit you in almost anytime. Took it in this morning, all OK - it did take just under the hour, but to be fair the complementary health check and the valet & wash took most of the time, and the coffee was quite good !! ps still waiting for the printed owners handbook my dealership promised me in September

  45. Both great cars. I m on my second NX and delighted overall. The current NX is a huge advance on the previous model but that said the NX300 is still a fantastic car. Given its a second car and bootspace isn't a priority I would go for a UX. Have driven a few either as demonstrator test drives (incl the UX 300e) or courtesy cars when the NX has been in for service and have been impressed. If its a brand new car you are seeking then perhaps holding off for a bit may be useful as I believe a refreshed range under the collective title of UX300 is imminent.

  46. Hadn't given a lot of thought to the demands of a 12 v battery in all 6 Lexus hybrids I've owned until yesterday when my LS500h went flat totally after 5 weeks of ownership. The car was a pre owned Lexus approved car but all previous 5 hybrids never once went flat regardless of how long they were left unused. Just ordered a small Jump pack from Machine Mart which I will now carry with me. The AA came out within 40 mins and spoke of the huge number of ECU's and Modems cars have now and the very high spec of this car makes me wonder just how many electrical systems are powered up each time you press that start button. My battery went down to 3 volts so total power loss and despite the AA getting it running with a jump pack and I gave it a 40 minute run out I'm not sure the battery can be saved. If it starts tomorrow I'll be amazed. The AA had to clear a large number of error codes due to multiple warning lights flashing away after he started the car and eventually the car returned to normal. I'm ringing the dealer first thing to test the battery under the 12 month warranty I got with the car.

  47. Sorry to hear this Rayaan if you remember i put a thread up about the 12v battery discharged on return from hol with the UX parked at airport i think i named it 12v battery anxiety. See if you can find it i had some good replies. I found also lexus do a solar charger that you plug in under steering wheel/dashboard area there's a proper usb i think to connect to then the solar trickles to the 12v. The other option is to carry a jump starter. That raises a few questions in itself where to jump from.

  48. After 12 years of variously owning 2 Prius’s, a Nissan Leaf, a MY2019 Hyundai Kona EV (current) and a MY2021 IS 300h (current), with no 12v problems, my 2 cents worth is: Your biggest problem is lack of information, on a daily basis you have no idea what your 12v is doing. This didn’t matter in ICE cars with large cranking capacity - it certainly does with EVs/hybrids. Meter testing only provides a voltage at one point in time, whereas you need battery history over days/weeks to look for patterns of behaviour. Solutions such as the Noco are last resort, the “ambulance at the bottom of the cliff”. You still have no idea if/when your 12v is going to fail, and if it has failed once, then it is more likely to again. As in life, solutions of the “primary care at the top of the cliff” sort, are the way to go. The one I use is the BM2 battery monitor, usually widely available on Amazon, EBay etc. It runs 24/7 on the 12v terminals with minuscule drain, records full voltage history for months at least, provides 1 day / 7 day charting, and feeds all this to an Android/IOS app via Bluetooth. It is widely discussed on many EV/hybrid forums. I have 1 of these for each car, for daily perusal over breakfast. So EASY.. Both have been continuously running since 2021, totally reliable. Highly recommended!!

  49. Just a quick update on progress so far: There are still a few jobs to do, but I'm really glad the weeks of flatting, compounding and polishing has finally finished! I've also repainted the wheels, although one day I might get them professionally stripped and repainted.

  50. I always go for the top spec when buying a car, I had an IS300h Premier, now have a NX350h Takumi, as I don't want to regret not getting the full spec if I had a lower model. I also keep my cars for eight to ten years so I want to have all the luxury features for the duration. Obviously a personal preference and I am lucky to have the funds to do it, although my wife still says why don't you get a Toyota Yaris as that gets you from A to B.
