  2. I made the jump last week from IS300h to GS300h. The GS is absolutely fantastic, a lot more comfortable and surprisingly economical despite extra weight. The comfort levels are terrific. I really liked the IS but I now love the GS.

  3. Got quite a lot done today, 8 suspension arms and two ball joints changed... Finish it off tomorrow and change the discs and pads all round as well... I'll do a proper write up at the end but here's a taster for now...... love the shadows created by the multi bulbed LED work light...!!!

  7. Been to Cardiff Lexus today. Usual coffee and greeting from Natalie. Explained the problem best I could and expressed my concern about the diagnosis charge (£138) as I suspected one of their technicians would have come across this before. Anyway, lift in to town together with coffee voucher for Marriott Hotel. Early afternoon I had an email on my phone with video of safety inspection, it highlighted usual stuff.....wiper smearing, brake disc lips, can of gunk in boot out of date etc.....and a siezed rear caliper on driver side. I then received a call from Natalie advising about the caliper and confirming that the water pump was u/s. She had received confirmation from warranty people that caliper and pump were both covered and would be replaced foc. Also, the diagnosis fee would be waived too. A courtesy car (CT200h) was provided as I was 60 miles from home. I'm returning tomorrow at 5:00pm to return CT and collect my IS. Excellent service !!!

  11. Hello, New in this forum. I am from Malaga - Spain. I bought my Lexus in November, its my second one. Before my IS300H i had the Lexus IS200d Fsport, this new model is much better in all aspects in my opinion. I have to say that y love this brand, they are one of the most confortable cars i have ever driven. And its incredible the design they have.

  12. Yep, gotta go with the vote, lots of people coming from all over the place so will never find the perfect location. I'm just worried about the amount of fast food shacks I will have to try and resist on the way up....

  15. Funny, from what I've heard locally, Pompey is dying on its a*se but it's interesting by contrast you think it's better now than it was. I often visit places I knew as a kid 'up north' and I find it incredibly depressing how run down some look, and yet other places seem to be booming more than they ever were. Places seem to be increasingly polarised, the UK over. Anyway, you are lucky to be in Somerset; I love Exmoor, it's about the closest 'wild' I can get to. A lovely 2.5hr jaunt down the A303 and I am there. Do you recognise the location in the attached picture? On a day off work just over two years ago and enjoyed a day on the roads of Somerset, Devon and Wiltshire. One of my regular quarterly 'road trip' days in the old Lexus. Meanwhile, I will do my best to keep the Lexus Motorsport section up to date, even if it only for the two of us!

  17. Before I purchased my NX, I had watched a lot of reviews on YouTube and read dozens of articles and reviews. Although I'd set my heart on getting a Lexus, I started my test drive with some trepidation that the ride would be unbearable, the gearbox awful and the fuel consumption dreadful. Thankfully I was able to have a two hour test drive to make my own mind up. The ride is firmish, but still a lot better than previous Golf Gti, Audi A5 and BMW 5 series I've owned before. Now I have an NX, I've found it supremely comfortable and the ride perfectly acceptable. The gearbox only makes a noise of in Eco or Normal drive mode and you plant your foot to the floor, but it's not something I'm bothered about at all. As for fuel consumption, I'm getting up to 36 around town and driving at 60 on the motorway for 60 miles, I got 43mpg. Going at 70 drops the consumption to 33. Overall I'm delighted with my NX . I've concluded that reviews are helpful in looking for downsides, but only test driving and living with the car will you really work out whether it's for you. Personally I just think most journalists simply don't get what Lexus is about... It is different to the usual fare out there, but for me it's stylish, comfortable, practical, plenty of gadgets, good value, reliable and superbly finished with great dealer service. That's what I was looking for and I've certainly feel I've got what I set out to achieve.

  23. What I do not understand in this now very deep, and confusing blog, is that the vehicle is always owned by you. Providing you do not allow the insurance company to take control of said vehicle you can choose. If you do not wish to claim, then don't and repair yourself. Nobody can force you to take any particular course of action and if the insurance offer is too low, don't accept it and do what you want. I am going to enquire about gap insurance as the probable solution. i

  25. A classic mini did not have wind down windows! It had two sliding windows. Non of this new fangled stuff although some did have heaters. A little black box in front of the gear lever with little flaps that you closed if you wanted to demist the windscreen, and a cord that you pulled to open the doors. A button on the floor to start the car, and certainly no power outlet or cigarette lighter. It did have the battery in the boot, now where have I seen that on modern cars? You will be telling me next your sons mini had syncromesh on all four gears. John

  26. I wonder what the residuals will be like bearing in mind the new motor tax system. The five year cost of tax for an RC-F registered after April 2017 will be £1,700 + (£450 * 4) = £3,500. It'll cost £140 p/a after that. The five year cost of tax for one registered today will be £885 + (£500 * 4) = £2,885. It'll cost £500 p/a after that. Looking at the above figures, I highly doubt anyone is waiting until April to buy a car with an RRP approaching £60k. The running costs and depreciation dwarfs the tax-related considerations. However, for the used buyer 6-7 years down the line, surely they'll be looking for a discount, based on today's tax rates, of £3k - £4k over and above the normal annual depreciation solely to cover the higher value of the same car handled under the new tax system.

  28. I did try CT as a loan car when my RX was serviced and I did like it , it was a good comfortable ride . I'm not a fast driver, so I wasn't particularly concerned about speed but I thought it was a good car and if I was in the market for a small Lexus I would certainly get one. 30. Four fig repair costs for potential hybrid 400h issues in addition to hardly any mpg improvement renders a 400h a no go for me. The £500 annual tax means the RX350 is also a no go. Get a 04/05 RX300 SE (not SEL)

  31. You're not getting it cheap just because you're being nice you know... To be honest I think I overpaid for it, by the time I have it where I want it I could have bought a nice one anyway.... I'm not doing it to make money though, it is just the spec and colour I wanted and that is worth a lot to me these days, my maximum bid was well over £6.000 so I'm glad you didn't bid it up anymore... I like the GS, went to look at a 400 but they are just a bit too small for me...

  33. Hi i did walk away , i'm just not sure it was a full spec se-l something didn't ring true with my research ... hence previous post. the inner petrol head in me said no. i was walking around it weighing up pros and cons , if all was ok i'm sure i would have felt it, could it have been a true car without the rear massage seats?

  35. Ive owned a 2nd Gen 54 plate RX for 6 years now. Ive never taken it to a garage for servicing. Did the yearly oil/filter myself and also replaced the brake discs and pads myself. Car is a family car and has been faultless. I also have a track focused car for my personal use but with the rain, ice and general poor weather I am considering another 04/05 RX300. Love the 450H F sports but waiting till they drop below £10k before getting one. At £3k ish the RX300 must be one of the best buys out there for someone looking for a reliable and practical car.

  36. I've just ordered a set of these.. Was going to go with a genuine set but the Ivory ones come with gold edging and logo and I don't like it.. These are equivalent carpet, if not better, and the company offer 15% off via our Gold member scheme... Going to wash all the carpets in mine and then hit the lot with gallons of Scotchguard to try to keep the lovely Ivory looking good.... Also ordered a set of 8 iridium spark plugs from the states for £50, as opposed to £160 here....!!!!

  38. Try cleaning the throttle body "butterfly and surrounding area" and lubricate the throttle shaft (WD40). You should be able to operate the throttle against the spring with your fingers, and it's operation should be smooth with no sticking or grittiness. Next carefully clean the MAF sensor being careful not to break the two fine wires. Best done by removing the MAF sensor and using aerosol can of MAF cleaner. Check all vacuum hoses for secure fitting and air leaks. Chang e the "o" ring on the dipstick if there is one. John

  39. Hi Yong, This sounds wrong. i strongly suggest to visit the dealer and have the traction control system inspected. I just cannot drift spin or whatever with my IS as the traction control steps in immediately if wheels loose traction. The engine immediately looses power revs drop regardless what you do with the throttle and the brakes are active on the wheel(s) neccesary. All this is instant and without hesitation or possibillitiy to influence. BMW has a more forgiving TCS that allows a certain drift angle before the system pulls you right but not the IS. I am told this is to prevent the rear wheels spinning and overrevving the electric motor. Anyhow, your story seems there could be something seriously wrong with the TCS system is it functional is it working?? take care Dutchie

  40. its ok to have the car set on recirculate but only use this mode for a short period of time, using this mode to demist with AC on is good, and in the summer having recirculate turned on will help to cool the car quicker, the tell tale signs that recirc has been on for too long is that your windscreen will slowly start to mist at the bottom and / or the rear window will mist up as soon as you see these signs turn the recirc off.
    1 point
  41. That's your problem.....don't have it on recirculate as per my post above.
    1 point
  42. Is you air button switched to 'outside' ? You aren't recirculating I take it ..? if not, is the car misted up first thing in the morning ( and if so and its happening more often than not) then you must have water incursion somewhere...or are you carrying damp gear..my golf equipment caused this issue.
