  2. I bought this car. Β£1950 as I felt bad about haggling. The gardening company is the grandson, Selling for his widowed grandmother, proven in V5. It is all legit and a fine example (my second Mk IV). I had been looking for 6 months. 76k all pretty much immaculate apart from a small ding to the front wing apparently done in the woodyard by a stump grinder. Repair quote high at Β£250 Full LSH based on exact mileage. MOT search spot on. I had the timing belt done in Brighton, although Lee said it it looked as though it had recently been replaced. This car was registered in the last month for 400's I believe. Thanks to Messi for loving his SC

  3. The first Celica would be my choice for CRAVE = the 2.0 litre ST or 1.6 - not fussy. They rusted well and are now quite rare and expensive for a good one. I agree with MikeyV - it would not be about value but love for the car. The Celica compared with my LS would probably be horrid to travel in .... but it was a car I nearly bought in the 1970's. I would stil love one ... just for its looks and sentimental reasons. My 2nd choice:- LS400 MkIV - wow! I have won the lottery!

  4. Firstly, your wife clearly has excellent taste. If you like the IS, you will love driving the SC. The SC430 is a very reliable car, the build quality is excellent and it's fun to drive. The V8 3UZ-FE engine is one of the very best, 80k to 120k would be regarded as just 'run in.' If serviced correctly the engine is just about unbreakable. There's no SE, SEL, F Sport, etc, they are all highly specified V8s as standard so choices are mostly about colour however there was a 'face-lift' revision in 2005 with a few extra features that add up to a worthwhile improvement. 6 speed box, AFS lights, new wheel design, etc. It's ideal for shopping with the roof down as it limits the amount that can be purchased in one visit to what can be placed on the back seats but being serious, the boot with the roof up, is actually only slightly smaller than that of the IS. Expect about 26 mpg overall, less in town and more on a long cruise. When looking for a good one, check the service history and make sure that everything operates as it should. I would pay attention to all the of the usual parts that wear; brakes, suspension, tyres and exhaust. It's a big powerful, V8 but not so different to your IS chassis. Parts are easy to source and there is a healthy amount of knowledge online for repair and servicing advice. There are a few difficult jobs but overall it's a good car to work on if you're handy with a spanner. Just one piece of advice for your wife when you discover the joys of an SC......hide the keys.

  5. Hi, I'm a new Lexus IS300H 2017 which I got from the dealer three weeks ago. Here in Spain Lexus isn't a very well known brand so It's difficult to find out some things of these cars. Despite my bad english I have been reading you by a long time and found that this is one of the few interesting forums dedicated to lexus so I have decided to join and collaborate and learn as much as I can about these nice cars. Everybody has told me that all Lexus current cars are mirrorlink 1.0... The thing that confuses me is that I can't not connect one S3 with drivelink but in the other hand mirrorlink works well with Samsung Galaxy Alpha (1.1 mirrorlink) or S4 mini (1.1 mirrorlink too). S7 doesn't work. Can anybody shed light on this matter? Sorry for my bad english and grettings from Spain.

  6. I've been toying with the idea of selling my IS-F for a short while now and have decided to take the plunge. I can't fault the car one bit but the lure of 2 wheels gets me every summer since I sold my last bike when my eldest was born.......so enough is enough and the Lexus has to go. I'm after an estate as a daily (Saab 9-3/Alfa 159/VW Passat), and then the remainder will be spent on 2 bikes. A Ducati 999/Aprilia RSV and either a 250cc 2 stroke or a track bike. So anyone who is after an IS-F or knows of someone give me a shout. It's a 2008 with private ISF plate valued at Β£1000, 51k miles, full Lexus history, full MOT, 2 years extended Lexus warranty, just been serviced last month and had its major one with plugs and rear brakes last year costing over Β£1700. It also comes with the optional sunroof. Looking for Β£17,995.

  8. Oh yes... I didn't say it is not possible to do it, just that there might be some challenges in the way. Definitely, there should be a way of adjusting the sensor (or I should say arm which goes into it) and making AFS work on lowered car, it is just a matter of finding how to adjust it and how much it can be adjusted. ... and as always don't forget to post how your finished project looks like ... and good luck

  9. R34 was always quite expensive, but Supra is another matter. I remember coming to UK in 2009 and looking for a nice car - car prices in UK compared to my country were like madly cheap... 2-3 times less. I remember I really liked 2001 Subaru WRX/STI "bug-eye" (yes... I know everyone hated it ) so that was my first car to check for insurance. The car costed Β£2500 (I believe it was WRX with pro-drive kit), the insurance for me was Β£30000 (no - that is correct 30k), the next one I checked was "rally coloured" 1.8l GX version aka STI replica for Β£1300 ... that one was Β£14000 to insure. At this point, I realised there is no love for Subaru drivers in UK and moved on.... onto Toyota Supra I believe it was 3l 1994 non-turbo one for ~Β£1500, just to illustrate how many times the price multiplied - there were no that many cars ~8-10 on Autotrader at the time, but you could fit them all in Β£1500-Β£3500 price range... Now you can imagine when I checked insurance for this one ... it was... yes Β£36000. At this point I realised there is no discrimination against Subaru, just against the drivers overall.

  10. There definitely few around e.g. @Yorkie740 who might be able to give you more info. The important thing to ask whenever there is AFS on lowered car, as if there no AFS it is just a matter of popping up the lowering springs and be done with it. As well check your car - it might be exactly that if you don't have Xenons (HID). As well look around US forums where modifying Lexus is more popular: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/suspension/183257-afs-light-flashing-after-tanabe-nf210-s.html

  11. No problem... In terms of mk2 check whenever your car has mentioned auto-leveling headlights (AFS). For some guidance, if you have Xenon (distinguishable from washers "most of the times") then you will have auto-levelling, as well you can check against the wall - when you turn on the engine with lights on, they should go down and up. These were standard in all SE-L, SE-i and F-Sport models and option on SE, Sport, Advance and SR models. The problem with auto-leveling is that there is a sensor which checks your ride height aka load and adjusts the headlamps. Obviously, it is adjusted for standard height and if you just pop lowering springs on the car then the system will go bonkers i.e. flashing AFS light on the dashboard, error messages and obviously your lights will not self-adjust or adjust incorrectly. I am sure there should be a way to readjust the sensor, but as I said it is not as straight forwards as it looks.

  12. Not exactly answers your question, but: 1. try posting in IS mk3 forum (your IS 300h is mk3). 2. I believe Auto-leveling headlights were standard on Mk3 (same as Mk2 SE-L) , which means fitting lowering springs will mess-up this system - my point is that it might be much more complex job than it looks and you might end up fighting some issues.

  16. Another day another modification! Lots and lots happened recently, managed to get a spare hour today whilst my wife and daughter had an afternoon nap so get my new custom steering wheel and carbon fibre controls fitted. This steering wheel not only looks amazing but feels even better really adds something to the driving experience again another modification I am over the moon with!

  18. this is not good of Lexus - I tried this feature in my 04 LS430 and it does work but only a few phrases like air conditioner but you have to speak loud and clearly. Im thinking if it didn't work very well in 2004 then Lexus should of improved on it by now!

  20. @sorcerer Ah! apologies, thanks John, yes I copied and pasted the wrong notes. You are quite right. Which way to the headmaster's study? I would like to claim that I was distracted 'elsewhere' on the complexities of dropping a 5 litre 2UR-GSE into an SC430 chassis but I'm sure the mods will dismiss my plea for leniency on the grounds of it being another far-fetched fantasy story. As punishment, I'm probably going to be locked up for a long 'stretch' in the V8 forums where I belong, with the other tearaways. @Nickyt211Yes it does in theory and in practice. Just follow John's procedure.

  21. Overland, I've got the same setup on my car and the menu being displayed when the map screen is on is a 'design feature' I think, as Lexus assume you will want to set a destination rather than just look at the map! I guess there are as many people who would say "why doesn't the menu just come up automatically to save me having to press the menu soft key....." if they hid it. Anyway it doesn't bother me too much as a quick press of the backup key on the console clears it. Ive not found the system slow at all, far from it the performance is very good and apart from a few crashes and hangs especially on iPod functionality using my iPhone, it's been fine. Both occasions I put this down to the iPhone bit failing as unplug/replug fixed it. For those with the old Premium system, the home screen feature is no more and the default is full screen map with the side bar available to view other features. Or you can have other functions full screen with the sidebar as well. Gone is the triple setup on the old car, but it is possible to setup the Nav to show 3 different views of the map splitting the screen into thirds! Functionality and viewing of info is generally better I think, I prefer it.

  27. For me it would be either the Toyota Supra MK4, or the R34 GTR Skyline. Both are commanding silly prices (more so the R34 GTR), and are set to be highly collectable in years to come. I'd also love to build a 240Z with a full RB26, GTR running gear conversion. Old skool looks with modern performance and handling.

  28. Think I bought the wheels off @effordoff last year and use them for my winter wheels. i used 255 / 35 / 19 bridgestone blizzaks all round , can't check as I'm on my hols!( but the same as the std rear) probably a size too small for the 19x10 but had not rubbing issues at all. Didn't have to roll the arches. look great on the car

  29. With the greatest of respect to Neil, I'm not sure if those instructions are for the RX300 - ours involves a lot of opening and closing the driver's door but no pressing of any pedals and using the lock button if I remember correctly (although it was about a year ago that I did this, so sincere apologies Neil if I have got it wrong). Have a look at this previous topic I started a while ago:

  32. You've got a nice example there Tom with low mileage, someone should snap it up but shame to see you part with the F. I think it all went wrong when you decided to opt for a 2 week holiday in the sun rather than joining the Welsh Blat. If you would've stayed away from certain members on here and not incurred the cake cost, you would have saved enough for your bike 🚲 πŸ˜‰

  33. @Tom24 Be great if you could hang onto it, you'd get the best of both worlds ! Stabillse the drive, then gravel it in the stone of your choice you'll save sufficient monies to fund the bike purchases ! As long as you use this underneath the gravel you'll have a firm surface. Big Rat

  35. I mentioned the Sunbeam Tiger a little back on here ... I remember in the late 70's I very nearly bought one, they were then an astonishing high Β£ 6k and would have really been beyond my economic reach ( my house was then worth max Β£18k )....... looking now at the USA where they fetch up to $250,000 ( Β£200,000 ) SO in all those years they possibly wouldn't have been that brilliant an investment compared to UK bricks and mortar I guess. BUT hey, the fun I could have had, that 4+ litre engine in that tiny body .. so now have to cope with that 4 litre engine in the big body with armchair comfort etc etc etc and old age

  38. Same as antiques, if you buy something you love, then enjoy using it, any profit is a bonus. I find shows like Quentin and Jodies classic car series, with it's focus on prices, a bit tiresome, I'd prefer more emphasis on the actual cars qualities.

  42. I test drove one of these, back to back with an MGC and an MGB, all soft tops, all around the same Β£1200 mark, in the mid 70s. I don't know whether the Tiger or the 'C' were great examples, as I never drove either model again, but I ended up buying the 'B', which was slower than the others, but a much nicer drive. That's the great thing about dream cars though, the dream is often more enjoyable than the reality, and doesn't cost a penny.

  43. What a load of bollox !!!! So you think only Lexus bodyshops possess the skills to use rulers and verniers and have access to relevant paint coding systems, etc ? All those other OEM approved bodyshops must be totally incompetent then and not even able to bolt a suspension component back to the right torque setting I agree that bodyshops who are performing insurance work are constantly squeezed on their margins, but like everything in life there are good and bad ones (no doubt even bad Lexus approved ones). OP .. don't forget you have the ability to reject your car once you see it on delivery or collection, try not to get carried away in the moment of you receiving your nice shiny car back and look round it with a fine toothed comb, whoever the bodyshop is.

  44. Well I'm going to disagree about the SEL with air suspension. I looked for some time to find the right top spec model. It's well worth having the benefit of air and only difficult to deal with if you don't know what you're doing or use a garage that doesn't and that's where forum knowledge should help out. Most air suspension issues are to do with height controller faults that are easily fixed. I've only had one fail on the RX at about 130k miles, it took me 15 mins to replace the controller and order was restored. I've had air suspension since the 1991 Soarer and several hundred thousand miles confirms it's really not that difficult or expensive to deal with.
