  1. Hi All, Passed MOT yesterday without any issues. Just one advisory on corroded brake pipe. Second time in a row passed without any work. 2004 model car with 247k Miles, that is brilliant. I am so happy tell me is there any other car out there 2004 with 247k miles which will pass mot second time without any work :) Just thought I will share this with you all. :)

  2. It would be possible to tell if the calipers were seized, and also a visual check would show some problems with the brake hose. However it would not be possible to properly bleed the brakes without the correct equipment. It is possible to do a fudge job of bleeding the brakes "if you know how", but this is not what your paying for. To be fair to the mechanic if he has never worked on hybrid braking systems before it would be easy to assume the braking system is like any other car, but this is far from the facts. I managed to dig out the typical hybrid brake circuit so that you can see it's complexity. John

  3. Bought a siena red 460 in 2015 and have run it for 2 years. Two warranty claims under extended warranty which I would not have liked paying for, a rear drive shaft and a rear air ride strut, both cost £1000 each to fit. Serviced and MOT'd twice under my ownership under a service plan, no issues or advisories. 66,000 miles and to be honest the best car I've owned. Not ever experienced a 400 or 430 which seem to have legendary reputations, but this first Lexus covers all the bases for me. At 10 years old it drives and feels like a 4 year old car and not a squeak or rattle due to the high build quality and superior materials. I'm the second owner and the first owner opted for 19 out of the 20 possible options back in 2007 and every one of them works or has not deteriorated in that time i.e comfort pack.

  4. really not quite sure what all the fuss is about ........... it's quite well proven that whatever the miles on the Ls400, even several hundred thousands, you are probably going to be buying a really good car with many years of life ahead. If you want to keep your car in aspic and never use it to it's full advantage, and enjoy the pleasure it will give you, then by all means pay many many £000s and do that. But for me the joy is in using the darned thing ............... now exactly 200,000 miles, bought it at about 123k miles June 2011 at £1400 ....... minimal maintenance costs to date ........ she's BRILLIANT Malc

  6. Hi all, As beginner in Lexus world i had ct200h advance plus 65reg and love it to the pieces for comfy ride and everything else was more better than in "other" cars, but felt I had to get more from Lexus. My desire was to get decent NX, untill I saw this... 17reg IS300H F - Sport. My decission was very spontaneously and devil in my mind opened my mailbox and with my hands wrote to lexus dealership and here we go, proudly announcing today in the morning I become happy owner of below car. I hope I will be able to cope without: M&L (yes unfortunately) and sunroof, not sure about heated steering wheel. It`s seems like I opened another world for me to discover having this as my daily ride now...next friday pick up from dealer!

  12. AFAIK RGM make the bumper guards for Lexus. There is a possibility that they just havent updated the website yet so might be worth giving them a call unless Lexus have changed supplier

  13. As in my earlier post I came across the same problem. As with sorcerer's post (John) in red it states as I did that fuel "petrol" still needs to be injected to keep the direct injectors from being destroyed making the system less viable than it normally would be. Unfortunately for the moment anyway there seems to be no way round the problem. I am now looking into the possibility of electric assist conversion to make more use of the 186 HP electric motor fitted in the GS450H transmission. This could be along the same lines as the Prius conversions. The problem with the Prius conversion is the relatively small electric motor in the Prius "50 HP" severely limited it's performance, but no such problem with the GS. This used in blended mode would give a considerable boost to MPG figures. John.

  14. I think you have the answer from Lexus. The Mechanic obviously did not know about the Lexus braking system. Brake fluid does not come out of the rear brake bleeders in the normal way by pressing the brake pedal, and as you have been told by Lexus the rear parking brake shoes have very little lining material on the when new. They also do not ware under normal circumstances as they are only used when stationary. There are times however that we drive off forgetting to release the parking brake for a short distance. Good luck with your claim, and please let us know the outcome. John.

  15. Couldn't get reads adjusted, bolt stuck. Front brought back to spec, but steering wheel slightly off, so will have to go back and get it tweaked. Driving much much better though, the hop skip and jump, gone.

  17. Thank you so much for the info, I'm basically about to take the guy to court for a partial refund. I had a caliper seize on the front near side, so I decided to replace all the discs, front two calipers and all the pads. The guy started work on the car and called me out to say the rear calipers were also seized, I found this hard to believe as I'd driven back from Cornwall to Norwich the day before yes the front near side was scoring the disc for the last 100 miles but was fine to drive with care. He showed me he couldn't push the piston back in on the rear calipers with big grips BUT I'm assuming this would be because the brake system ' locked ' so to speak. He also showed me the rear brake shoes for the foot brake and said they were very low on pad material BUT my local Lexus Specialist tell me these shoes are almost never replaced as they only open and close when the vehicle is stationery so they simply don't actually wear out and need replacing, he clearly didn't know these shoes only have a small depth of material and mine were actually hardly worn at all after talking with Lexus. As for the rear near side brake hose he could get no fluid out when he tried bleed it so again I'm assuming this is because you can't just bleed the brakes like you would on a standard car brake system ? I wrote to him with registered post with a complaint and asked for a partial refund and he never responded, I wrote again and hand delivered the same letter and it was returned by the post office because he refused to sign for it ! When he had put the car back together I had some front brakes and managed limp it to the Lexus specialist who put it on their machine, reset everything including the ' Christmas tree like dash board of lights ' that had come on and adjusted the rear foot brake as it wasn't working correctly. After all this and the guy charging me ten hours labour I think I have a pretty good case to take to court ! I just wanted confirmation that this car needs to be on a specific machine in the workshop and you simply can't do this job on axle stands on the drive. Thanks guys

  19. I had to replace mine and found it very awkward on the 430 - had to remove the airfilter box and move coolant bottle out of the way to gain access - maybe someone with smaller handles and nimble fingers might be able to fit it without problems.

  20. Original post: CTvNX.... wife + 2 offspring+ shopping= maximum paraphernalia potential . Go for the NX if wife is happy to negotiate parking it. At the end of the day, whatever the driver prefers to drive that suits the pocket should win the day and often over-rules a lot of other practical considerations. Hah! sound system arguments! Which one drowns out the sirens of emergency vehicles, plaintiff cries of crushed cyclists and mangled pedestrians... its a car, not an auditorium! You are welcome to be as offended as you like by that comment, it doesn't stop it from being the truth. By the way, there is a( in my opinion misguided) lobby keen on removing audio systems as they are a distraction to drivers.

  21. So far the car has not let me down expectation wise, i did have a minor alarm issue, but hopefully that has been resolved. The LC steering seems a lot more precise, this is mainly due to the rear wheel steer, the car acts and drives a lot like my old GS450h. Its a lot easer to get in and out of the LC, the seats although bolstered are not as high as the RC, plus the sill hight is a lot lower, the only slight issue is that the doors a longer so you need a bit of space next to you to get the doors wide open, so things may be slightly more difficult to get in and out if your parked in a tight space. The LC is very smooth compared to the RC, the gear changing seems more precise although i have found a couple of times it has got confused on which gear to use, mainly when your traveling slowly, 10/15 mph then go to accelerate. i have only done one short 70mph trip, but the car was very quiet at this speed. The seats thenselves are very comfortable and supportive , and with the aIcantara inserts your not going to burn your bum in the hot weather, I have only used the heated seats once so far and they are 100% better that the RC which i found to be nearly non excitant The infotainment system does take a bit of getting use to, although you can say this about any a new gadget you buy, but its no way near as complicated as a lot of reviews make out, the problem with the reviewers is that they probably only have the car for a few hours or a day, not enough time to really get to use it, no, there isn't switches for the heated/ventilated seats and you do have to go into the system to switch them on and of, but it does have a concierge function which when activated and set up, will automatically adjust the heat of the seats and steering wheel depending on the outside temperature and the inside temperature you have set, you don't even need to have the heating system on for this to work, it will also adjust the cooling of the seats in the same way. The RC-F was a great car and i don't regret having one, but the LC is a lot more comfortable to drive, smoother and when set in comfort mode a lot more comfortable ride, but then if you want to you can put it in sports mode and your back in a RC-F, although even in this setting i don't think it is as firm a ride as the RC was. So over all i am a very happy Bunny. for anyone who may be interested hear is a link to the LC'S detailing http://www.theultimatefinish.co.uk/car-care-blog/new-car-protection/lexus-lc-500-v8/?utm_source=UF+Newsletter+Subscribers&utm_campaign=662dca843a-Oct+Three+2017+-+Dodo+Juice+Menthol+Giveaway&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_1b3f443310-662dca843a-60208701

  25. Ebay says 275 people bought them so they can't be that bad . I would say give it a try and it is not ok you can always return it . When mine went on the gs450 i have bought some osrams from http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/ for about £60-70 i don;t remember exactly .

  27. To bleed the brake properly on the Toyota/Lexus range of cars Techstream or a suitable equivalent is a requirement. The braking system has a brake stroke simulator in it to use regen braking whenever possible. I have posted the hydraulic circuit elseware on the forum "cannot find it at the moment", but looking at this will tell you why the equipment is needed. Further a linear solenoid calibration should also be carried out on the brake actuator when ever the brake circuit is opened. John.

  30. I believe this is the case. I always take mine to roys motor company an independent toyota/Lexus specialist , Ian there told me something on the lines above before . I'm sure he would answer your question over the phone if you gave them a call and asked for Ian 01603 424877 . Based in Norwich so can't be too far from you. Have used them for over 25 years and have been superb . Phil.

  31. There is normally some sort of indication over time and not sudden failure, either play in the bearing (this is something you can confirm yourself by raising the road wheel off the ground and then trying to wobble the wheel with your hands at the 12 and 6 o'clock position then again at the 9 and 3 o lock position feeling for any play whilst doing so. The other problem is the bearing becomes rough and this can be tested by rotating the wheel both ways and listening closely, although this is usually compounded by the pads catching the discs slightly requiring pad removal. Has the car failed on this bearing or just an advisory? I would gain a second opinion before committing and if confirmed it may be more cost effective to replace the complete hub not just the bearing. I would have thought potholes would have caused suspension component damage rather than cause a wheel bearing to fail.

  32. You can take warranty out on cars up to 10 years old. So like mine that is 9 years and 10 months old, my warranty will last until the car is nearly 12 years old. I suppose you get a non Lexus warranty after 10 years old anyway? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  33. The i3 is electric only with the 22kw battery. Normal usage you'll see around 120KM (75Miles) range, up to 160km in summer and down to 90ish km on a harsh winter day. Although if you slow down to 80kmh you can increase the range 10-20%. Great car to drive, very nippy (leaves the IS and most almost all cars for dust) and i love the one pedal driving. Hopefully it will be the most reliable (and last) BMW i'll ever own. Also preconditioning is great on cold winter mornings, having a nice warm car to sit into and all the ice melted. As a second car i definitely recommend an electric car. My wife does a 90km round trip every day, which costs about ~€1.40 on night rate. The IS300h is doing 6l/100km so would cost around €7 for same trip. However we couldn't justify having an electric only household yet with the current range limitations (can't drive between the two major city's in Ireland yet with one charge unless it's a Tesla). The biggest drawback we see so far is that no one is investing in charging infrastructure in Ireland and there are a lot more electric cars (and PHEV's) on the road now. Almost all the chargers are taken every day which can be a pain if you need to charge to get home. The worst offenders are the PHEV's who are taking advantage of free parking in the cities and leaving fully charged cars plugged in all day.

  34. Hello everyone. I've recently bought an old (2006) RX400h and thought I'd share my first impressions (and a few solutions). Things I love: Very easy to drive and park - My wife doesn't feel she's driving a bigger car which was one of the selling points for us. Our family is getting bigger and we needed something more practical Efficiency - We live on the outskirts of London and most of our journeys are short (distance wise) stop start journeys. Over the first 10 days I've averaged 31mpg, with lots of short journeys, a quick blast on the motorway and hauling paving blocks from the garden centre. I think that's great for a car of this size and weight. I'm using shell V-Power btw. Not sure on people opinions on fuel types (I'm sure there's a topic on it somewhere) Gearbox/hybrid combo - I wasn't sure what I was going to make of the CVT. On the one hand I've always liked manual cars and finding the best/optimum gear to give me the torque. However, for a hybrid of this nature.. I think the smoothness of the CVT really suit it. It makes absolute sense to me For a 10 year old car it still looks relatively modern Things that annoyed me/us: The tailgate didn't stay up and the auto tailgate didn't work either. I ordered and changed the gas struts and this sorted this out. I've written the guide here: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/tutorials/article/245-replacing-tailgate-gas-struts-lexus-rx300350400h/ Sat Nav is old. OK I never expected a 10 year old car to have upto date in car technology but the lack of full postcode and being able to operate it moving was really bad. I purchased a new (2016) updated disc from eBay which works perfectly. however the routing is still not a patch on googlemaps No AUX port - I was really surprised by this! I find it shocking that something that should be standard on all cars was missing from this premium SUV. I've rectified it with an iphone/AUX kit. I wrote a guide here: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/tutorials/article/244-iphone-lightning-ipod-and-aux-connector-for-rx400h/ iPhone integration - Although I can connect the iphone for voice calls via bluetooth. I couldn't sync the contacts. I found a way around this however. I exported my icloud contacts to a file and uploaded the to my google contacts list. I was then able to pair my android tablet and upload my entire address book. However, I had to remove all spaces from all my phone numbers for them to import correctly which was annoying. The other annoyance is having to manually switch paired phones.. when my wife and I use the car. Reverse Camera - I've actually got used to this but my wife didn't really like it. So I retro fitted some reverse sensors at the cost of £12!!! It was well worth it and I've written a guide here: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/tutorials/article/246-installing-reverse-sensors-rx400h/ However even despite the small annoyances (many of which have been rectified), I think it's a great vehicle. The feeling of pulling away silently yet still being able to put your foot down to boot it is great.
