  1. If you haven't got a tin box, you can also turn off the key's wireless transmission. The manual describes this as a battery saving function but as it disables the wireless transmission from the key you also can't open the car doors by holding the door handle. Instead you have to press the unlock button on the key. As far as I understand it, this would make it impossible for a thief to steal the car by amplifying the key's signal - there's no longer any signal to amplify. To disable the key, hold the lock button down while you double-press the unlock button. The red light on the key will flash four times to confirm the wireless transmission is turned off. You can also check this has worked by attempting to open the car by holding a door handle. The doors won't open when the key is turned off.

  2. With the greatest respect, it's my opinion so I can base it on what I like. That's how opinions are formed. It's obviously more than that but you can't honestly claim to have no prejudices against any brands based on the fact you don't particularly like them though there's no real reason for it. You know what, your right, I'm a knob. Can we move on as the thread is about the M4, not how bigoted I am

  3. I voted as I actually prefer blue rather than the black I own. I only got black because it is the fastest colour...

  5. Just ordered this kit in carbon for a very good price I just got the lip and sides as I'm not overly keen on the diffusers on white cars think they suit darker colours a lot more, it's on eBay if anyone's interested also ordered a set of carbon surrounds for the spotlights it's surprising how much stuff you find on the web with a bit of effort put in. I'm really starting to like the look of them vosens in the picture too think I'll be putting extra massage time in to the wife a drop a few hints for Christmas😂 you never know!.

  6. Just had an e mail from Modern Classics Magazine, the feature on my IS-F will be in the February issue, available in January!!! Hopefully they will speak highly of the car which should help residuals, shame I sold it!!!

  7. I am posting this for the information of other GS300h owners who are considering changing their tyres. Please learn from my own stupidity. Do not purchase Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 in size 235/45! When looking at reviews, I found near-universal praise for these tyres (in other sizes) for being quiet, comfortable and low rolling resistance. Despite the fact that I know full well that tyre reviews are second only to food reviews for being utterly pointless subjective tripe, I allowed myself to be persuaded away from spending the extra on Michelin CrossClimates which have been recommended by owners on here. That was foolish, and it is going to prove to be an expensive mistake. These tyres are not quiet. They produce noticeably more cabin noise than the OEM Bridgestone ER33s, which I did not consider to be a quiet tyre in the first place. They are perhaps more 'comfortable' in that they make the car feel as if it's driving through treacle. However, the biggest problem is that the rolling resistance is absolutely, utterly, appallingly terrible. Unbelievably, it has actually made a noticeable impact on performance - significantly more throttle is now required in any given situation, and the distance I can get in milkfloat mode has been considerably reduced. As a result, fuel economy is now catastrophically bad. I'm not talking a slight reduction - I'm talking a minimum 10% worse and on some journeys up to 20%. Where I would have been touching an indicated 50mpg on these cold days, I am now struggling into the low 40s and occasionally dipping down into the 30s. If I needed more proof that those ridiculous EU economy ratings are anything other than fabricated bulls--t then this is it - these tyres have the same rating as the ER33s they replaced, and the associated mumbo jumbo claims a maximum difference of 7.5% between A and G! I hoped they might just need scrubbing in, but there's been no improvement after a few hundred miles. I have tried whacking the pressures up to 2.7bar, but this has had little impact on economy. It just makes the ride unsettled. And yes, I've checked they were fitted the right way around! Clearly, these tyres can't be universally awful. I've actually got the Asymmetric 3s (the updated version) on my wife's Auris HSD and they're absolutely fine. However, on a GS300h they are an unmitigated disaster if you have even a passing interest in fuel economy. I hope this information may save others from making the same mistake as I have made.

  9. Keep us informed as to how this pans out - I would be particular interested in knowing what the results are in a few weeks/months time.... I had no issue with mine immediately after the oil change - cant see how the garage can claim that, as the ecu only decides the driving style during the first few miles after start up from when the engine / box is up to temp.....there is a feature on these cars that does not allow the full use of the box (gearing wise) until it is up to temp. You can see this from the indication on the readout display (gear selection) in auto mode when first start-up, will only take the car up to 5th gear until fully up to temp then allow selection to 6th, its why you will feel a bit of a lag on the car from cold. The gearbox on these should heat up quicker, or just as quick as the engine, Its just as important to ensure the coolant service changes are followed, not just for the engine but for the box also as the system cools the box also.

  10. Hey. To update you guyz about my is300h hunt, i am happy to have one now... i had 2 options; is300h luxry trim with 120k on the clock or is300h SE with 85k on the clock. I went for the 85K SE basic trim one... I had to sacrifice SatNav and 17" rim. But I was lucky to have it in full leather. To be honest, even the SE trim is amazing to drive in terms of comfort and coziness. Prior to this i was driving C220 (63 plate) executive... but this Lexus is way more comfortable than C220. I havent taken it to long drives but urban and city driving in London on roads full of humps and dumps, it drives amazing. You definitely feel like driving a luxry saloon. The only regret i have is it doesnt have parking sensors which i was sure about that it would have considering the fact that SE trim comes with Xenon and electric folding mirrors.... :(((( Now mine one does have the infotainment screen with few options including DAB and USB and bluetooth connnectivity. I suppose it has a mirrorlink option as well but i am not sure how it works. I guess i still have to go through more threads on this forum to make most use of my basic trim. Thank you all! 11. A bit of science.. "By the way, science and radio engineering tells us that if you want to make your own Faraday cage, you want to use a highly conductive metal, like copper or aluminum (but not anodized aluminum). If you use a mesh, make sure the holes are smaller than 1/10 the wavelength of the signal. In North America and Japan, car remotes transmit at 315 megahertz, which is a wavelength of about .95 meters, so a mesh with holes smaller than 9.5 centimeters should work. Other countries use key fobs that work at 433.92 MHz, for a wavelength of .69 meters, so holes under 7cm are what you’re looking for. Those are pretty big holes. In our mesh box they were a lot smaller. And the one thing you must do when making a Faraday enclosure for your key is to make sure the box closes. Otherwise, the radio signal will get in, and the relay exploit could still work. Science notwithstanding, our experience tells us your best protection against the relay attack is to line a box with aluminum foil. It’s more reliable, even though a nice mesh box probably works well enough and certainly looks cooler." https://makezine.com/2015/08/14/block-car-door-relay-hack-faraday-cage/ My first box had a neat plastic insert to hold the key but this insert was suspended by the rim of the lower box, so when the box lid cam down there was a rim of plastic visible. This, surprisingly, allowed the signals to get out and the car door could be opened. Next box had a overlapping lid, so when closed there was no gap. Standing next to the car, key in box, didn't allow me to open the door.

  14. No, I'm dis-Lexus, as in....I don't have one anymore! (-: Seeing spelling/grammar errors is unfortunate - I seem to spot them on 'A' boards from 50 paces, somehow. But then, I have no sense of smell now....so even me ain't perfect!

  15. Looks a good idea, and the cost is minimal. Or just stick your keys in the fridge, a microwave oven or a tin box. All would be enough to block out any threat from what I understand.

  16. Hi guys, Not wishing to rain on anyone's parade. I have just seen a write up about this place classicmotorhub.com and thought it may be suitable for a 10th annversary meet up for F cars next year. As I said I'm not trying to throw a spanner in the works if someone is already running with this, and I'm in no way associated with the venue. Just a thought. Happy to hear comments, perhaps some of you already know the place?

  17. I have always, well since about 2003, fancied an Amazon Land Cruiser when we had one on our forecourt carsales ... big, no huge, and so rugged and robust and for the Australian outback coz it would actually get you out AND back ........... but never had the need and well, I had my Mk1 Ls400 then and Ls400 ever since too. Enjoy ( a slight tinge of envy there ) Malc

  20. I have seen this review previously, I kind of like the attitude of the driver as he not overly punishes RC-F on the track even though it is arguably overweight... One thing which annoys me is that they always compare RC-F with M4+carbon ceramic brakes on the track. Whereas RC-F is excellent car in many aspects it is definitely not on par with M4 on the track... just isn't... with the weight, with the gearbox etc. Not only that they add optional Carbon ceramics brakes on M4.. which makes not much sense on the road, but on track they really add value... so how that is fair comparison?! I guess they kind of consider that and balance it out in their review, but why add optional extra on BMW in first place?

  23. Most high end cars are stolen by plugging a device into the OBD port and cloning a new key same as a main dealer will do if the fobs had been lost. If you are worried just put your fob into an RFID pouch. I don't want to knobble the luxury features of my car on the highly unlikely chance of it being stolen in this way. Ed

  26. My problem is not which Lexus I want, but what to do with my current, super reliable and completely issues free IS250. If that is solved then I would go for either new GS450h or RC-F... though choice to be honest, GS450h has perfect powertrain and reasonable economy for my city commute, but it is rather ugly in my opinion.. or lets say not the best looking car in my taste. RC-F on the other hand is beautiful car inside-out, but I am not sure that 5L V8 is the car I want to keep for all circumstances in my life, just not overly practical choice... Can I have RC450h? After all Christmas is miracles time...

  27. VW Passat CC = Arteon, it is direct replacement and re-branding. Now again in my opinion FWD has no place in premium market, I hate driving FWD cars, I hated my CC primarily because of FWD and secondly because of awful 2.0t engine from Golf GTI (to be honest the engine was fine for Golf, just no suitable for luxury coupe application). At some point I was tempted to upgrade to US import VR6, but after trying I can say that 4motion is still pretty much FWD... which is not that unexpected for intermittent AWD system. Now what is the problem with FWD.... it is balance of the car, RWD naturally tends to overseer and that is what you want in the car, FWD and most AWDs tends to understeer and that automatically takes away from driving pleasure and confidence. It would be right to say IS mk2 tends to understeer as well when pushed to the limits, but that is not be cause of inherent balance, but because of how stability control is adjusted... when car naturally starts to overseer it quickly overreacts and you end-up understeering (or in the ditch). However, all the way to the limit IS feels just fine like any other RWD. Now obviously, if you buying car for commuting only and you have no plants to ever do any spirited driving in it... then there is no difference whatsoever which wheels does the job. But in that case what is the reason to go for ES? IS is already good commuter car and it is sufficiently streamlined to quite closely match the looks of " door coupe" e.g. roof line is quite low and rear head room is already more limited than say in BMW 3 series or MB C-class... releasing another car which is even more streamlined commuters cars sounds for me like additional confusion in line-up and targeting niche of the niche market and even more niche than Audi A7, CLS and BMW 6 series grand coupe.

  31. Bought those CF fog light covers myself a little while back along with CF splitters (two piece), Novel CF duct panels and a Toms CF rear diffuser too. All are being clear coated as we speak so will post some pics once they are fitted. The clear coating makes the carbon look permanently wet and glossy, the gel-coat all these bits come in out of the factory goes dull after a while if you don’t clear coat it so it’s well worth the effort. The fog light covers just stick on over the originals. I’ve no plans to take mine off so will be tiger-sealing them in place. Pics to follow soon. I do like those cf side skirt extensions though, looks like the seller is sold out now though

  37. I cant speak directly for the IS, but my CT200h is just coming up to 140K and has been almost faultless. Although I know the drive train is different I'm sure the engineering is very similar to the IS so I would have no concerns about picking up a 100K plus model. My next car may be an IS and if I do go down that route then I will probably look for a higher mileage example.
