  1. Yep, that's basically what happened with me except it was the hybrid battery that was faulty. So after some "discussion" with the dealer (non-lexus) and me showing that I knew exactly what my rights were and they were basically going to end up spending a lot of money if they didn't find an agreement, they ended up refunding a good chunk of my purchase price and I got it fixed by Richard at hybrid battery solutions. So with a brand new hybrid battery, the car cost total £2800, including what I got back from selling the old battery cells on ebay which isn't bad at all! 🙂 As with most dealers I've found, they also tried to blag that it wasn't their responsibility e.t.c. till I showed them I actually knew what the law was. Unfortunately sometimes used car dealers do live up to their reputations.

  2. OK here's one to be going on with with a special nod to David's experience up the Grossglockner Pass, although I might have posted this story before. As I have said my van was unusual in that it had a 4 speed gearbox. However it would not stay in first gear and would just drop out under load. One weekend in the early seventies we decided to drive from Ambleside up to the Kirkstone Inn, a narrow little road with several 1 in 4 hills. All went well until we reached the final steep bit and the poor old van just couldn't make it in 2nd gear so we turned round in a gateway and stormed up the last ascent in reverse. Only trouble with that was it was (for the Lake District) a hot sunny day so the engine overheated and we arrived in the carpark opposite the inn in a great cloud of steam and to a round of cheering and applause from the customers sitting outside in the sunshine!!!   3. As reported elsewhere, I was there in my LS400 Mk1 (visible on the video at around 8:25, along with me chatting to friends). I'll put some of my photos in this thread when I get them edited. It's a great show, full of stuff which is in a significant minority and often overlooked at 'normal' classic car shows. I've been to it several times previously since 2016, so far I've managed to take a different car each time. Edit: Only 40-odd seconds in and my car makes an appearance here...... In this video:

  4. This is my kind of car show, with a great walk around by Ian Hubnut. I just love ordinary cars - if I had a fantasy barn it would have to include a Skoda Estelle, Lada Riva, Hillman Imp, VW Lupo, Volvo 340, Toyota Corona (1975 vintage) Renault 5, Renault 25, Alfa 75, Peugeot 205, Vauxhall Chevette and a Daihatsu Move just for a start…🤪

  5. But why? What makes you feel uncomfortable about people looking at a 16-year old car on here, as opposed to people seeing it on the streets? Of course, you don't have to answer, but I'm just struggling and genuinely curious to understand the actual rationale behind your decision. Whatever happens, I genuinely wish you good luck and a speedy sale if that's what you want.

  6. As far as topics go, this one has moved off on a tangent but it served its purpose long ago, so why not drift a bit? Your original point was that the RX300 is heavy on petrol and we all know that anyway, so I don't know what else can be said.

  7. Hi David, You cannot play music from usb disks whilst AA/ACP is active. It is one or the other. There are two usb ports in the centre console, which are for both power and data (usb music, AA, ACP etc). There are two in the centre stack under the climate control buttons which are for charging only. There are two in the back (well, middle row in the RXL) in the centre arm rest I believe. (In the non L model they are below the rear climate vents). These are again just for charging. Paul

  8. I apologise for not updating this topic earlier. Because ChipsAway is a franchise and dependent on the individual franchisee's skills, I made some enquiries and found that the guy who covers this area has an impeccable record and many, many good reviews, so I went with him and I was not disappointed. He did an absolutely brilliant job and charged me £120. I would highly recommend David Houghton to anyone in his catchment area for the sort of jobs ChipsAway would do. For bigger jobs I use a guy who is a coachbuilder and who usually does restoration work on E-Type Jags, Bentleys, Porches and even military vehicles like a Hillman Tilly that he has in there at the moment.

Well I’m kinda coming to my own conclusion that they have cut the gpf but the way it’s been cut means I need new exhaust parts aswell thinking they are on an rx getting the cat either way over the coming days I will get to the bottom of this an will share my findings an raise awareness help stop this happening to other nx owners

Thank you so much for that info Colin It mostly went over the top really your Knowledge astounds me, it is great to have some one on our Forum that as this level of expertise It was only curiosity that led me to ask the question my 450 is running like a dream all the power that i need on tap I Did think it was not as quick as the mk3 SEL i had but that may not be the case it just felt like it, Also now that the Goodyear Eagles are bedded in (i hav done 2K on them) the car is whisper quiet and the slight rumble frorm passenger side as completly gone. Mind if i am on a really bad road you can hear the road but on normal well kept roads it is very quiet so all in all very pleased. Once again Colin and Chris thank you for the info Robert

  13. This is seriously bad luck, Grant. Yours is the first NX I've heard of having the cat stolen as they're difficult (we thought) to get to. Sounds like your thieves went to a lot of trouble. Hopefully doesn't start a spate!

  14. John, that has brought back wonderful memories for me. When I passed my test in 1974, my father had a Ford 400E for his small holding. I drove it for over year. It had the 3 speed box (column change the same). My uncle, who was in partnership with my father, worked for Rediffusion. He had an option to buy the vans they were getting rid of. My father worked for the local bus company and he was able to get old bus seats. My uncle fitted out the 400E (1963?) with bench seats and a home made roof rack. We joined him and his family for a holiday in Yugoslavia, camping. $ adults and 4 children - no seat belts - no ABS - no air conditioning. All the way to Porec on the Istra peninsula. It took us three days to get there and 3 days back. 8 days on the campsite! An experience few people can contemplate, at the time it was done.

  16. There seems to be quite a few inaccuracies in the quote you found. Firstly I assuming they are talking about the 2GR-FKS rather than the 2GR-FXS as they refer to the GS350. This engine was introduced to the GS in the 2016 facelift. It adopts Toyota VVT-iW technology - the W standard for Wide and allows the intake timing to be further altered from standard VVT-i which does allow the engine to move into an Atkinson mode when under partial load and operates in Otto mode for the rest of the time. This is performed by solenoid and oil pressure as normal. The engine does not use VVT-iE which uses an electric motor to control intake timing - this is used on the LS and the F engine in the GS F, RC F and LC500. This allows wide operation, as VVT-iW, but with advantage that intake timing can be changed when the engine is at idle, when oil pressure isn't strong enough to use the hydraulic method. This engine was not adopted in the GS450h, it kept the 2GR-FXE even with the facelift. The 2GR-FXS is the hybrid adapted version of the 2GR-FKS - it is used in the series IV RX450h, not in the GS450h.

  18. When I read this, I have to say my flabber was well and truly gasted! If this dealer is a part of a larger Group, then I would suggest a registered letter to the Group CEO detailing your complaints will concentrate minds. The Dealer certainly has the right to have the chance to rectify faults, but you cannot be placed in a position of loss as a result of their failure to fulfil the Contract they entered in to. My first reaction here would be to name this Dealer. If other posters have had similar experiences with them this may well resolve the question as to whether you persevere with this car or get an immediate refund - which you are entitled to have as the vehicle sold to you was not in the condition you were told it would be! Where to start? Well, if you're a member of the AA/RAC or similar (and if not, why not?) then I would call their Legal Department. They've been dealing with Use Car Dealers for decades! the vehicle was not buffed (while the dealer told me it will be), and when I mentioned it to him, he said, these scratches can not be buffed. Depends on whether he made the second statement before or after you'd bought it! Nonsense. The legal limit is 1.6mm but I doubt any tyre maker would recommend going below 3mm. The Tread Wear Indicators are there for a reason. This is a clip from the Continental Tyre website: Tread wear indicators are spaced evenly through the main grooves in the tyre tread. If they are flush with the level of the tread, then the tyre must be replaced. You have to question the competence of a workshop that fits a new windscreen and doesn't check the Auto Wipe function. Of course it should be working! The dealer says, the vehicle has 12 months full Lexus Warranty. You should have been given a copy. Check the conditions that apply. The faults of which you are complaining are of their own making and a result of their failure to honour their side of the Sales Contract. You should not be inconvenienced or caused a loss as a result. So if you wanted to persevere with this car I would be inclined to state that they will collect it, leave you with a courtesy vehicle as you need one for work etc and return the car to you in the condition you had paid for. Which includes new tyres and functioning Auto Wipe. Their other option is an immediate refund. Oh, and I'd probably be less inclined to deal with them in the future! Remember, right now is when you are in the strongest negotiating position.

  19. In this instance I would look for an experienced bodyshop, an outlet with good reviews or perhaps someone who is recommended by word of mouth. You could even ring the Lexus dealer and ask if the can recommend a body shop. Not all chipsaway franchises are good - it all depends on the skill of the person working on your car, A family member used chips away a couple of years ago and had to baby sit the guy (took him 3 atempts to get it right) and now the laquar is starting to peel off.

  20. Has anyone got a use for this (great colour for finding in the bottom of a bag) I now have a different style Lexus key fob, don't really want to just chuck..... recycle and all that. Don't want any money for it, happy to just pop it in an envelope and post to anyone in the UK that can use it. Regards Nikki

  21. The incorrect wheel geometry that you had could have worn the tyres in an uneven way and therefore are now contributing to the slight pull. Might be worth rotating the tyres front to back (or swap the fronts over if your tyres aren't directional (unlikely)).

  23. Make sure that everything that has been agreed between you and the seller is confirmed in writing before you collect the car. Rakesh. The Lexus Dealer will probably provide 12 month`s warranty so matters which need attention (if any) will be addressed. Ensure that car is fully serviced and MOTD (IF APPLICABLE) before collection and payment. And check car over for any cosmetic damage which needs to be corrected. Ensure that your insurance is in place. ENJOY your new purchase and show us a couple of photos please.

  24. Well I thought I'd post how I washed my car today. For a good number of years I've had a Karcher power washer. The smallest one they do. More than good enough for a car. Anyway since I've had time on my hands I watched numerous videos on YouTube as you do lol. I eventually found one with a guy with the same karcher as me tho the latest version. So I ended up buying a new foam lance thing and some foam soap. Same as the guy. I also bought from halfords the posh looking TFR stuff. So I takes all the gear out to wash my car. Attach the expanding hose to the tap, plug the mains extension in thru the kitchen window, attach water hose, attach the karcher hose (the type I have is a ruddy pain, the new version looks ace), make up the TFR in one of those 2l pump bottles, make up the foam in my new lance. Thread the karcher pistol gun thru the garden fence. Blimey I thought to myself I could have washed the car by now with a bucket and mit. But anyway I sprayed the TFR, left it a few mins the hosed it off. Blimey I thought again this is soapy stuff. Then I foamed the car. Ruddy hell this foam is like shaving foam ( the guy in the video warned its thick and a pain to swill off the tarmac). Left that a few mins then I got my wooly hand mit and proceeded with warm water in a bucket to wash my car. In all the times I've washed any car of mine the wooly mit glided across the car wow I thought. After washing I emptied my foam lance and flushed it and poured a bit of auto glym shampoo conditioner and water then attached it to my pistol gun and sprayed the car. Then I rinsed the car off with just water thru the pistol and attachment. I dried it off with a large microfiber cloth. Doing all that (including putting everything away, took over an hour. Will I was my car like that again? I doubt it very much. I finished off by using Williams waterless wash. It's got carnauba wax in it and that's why I use it as a polish. Just thought I'd post this because I found it one helluva palaver. To those of you who do this I doff my cap to you. You must have the patience of a saint.

I am sure such a car would be technically advanced and liked by some, although it looks ugly to me and compares unfavourably in this respect with the Jaguar F type and even my Maserati Indy of the nineteen seventies. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder and can be offset by other merits, the reason why I bought my RX despite it's looks.   36. Took my LS400 to a show today, Festival of the Unexceptional. It was held in Lincs this year, but still a drive of 90+ miles from me in neighbouring Norfolk. It seems like I was the only Lexus there year out of 500-1,000 old cars (mostly 1970s-90s 'normal' things). Some stunning and/or super-rare examples of once-common cars there. It was my longest journey in the LS, it acquitted itself very well.

  39. the dealership should be providing you with a courtesy car if they have one available, go back and ask them when they'll have a courtesy car available for you and book your car in for the repair.. dont let the dealership walk over you and stand your ground with them

  41. Jeez I'm pleased I never have to worry about mpg and cost£££ in my delightfully comfy powerful limo ....... I think on a good run, say 70mph on the motorway ..... fully laden I used to calculate about 30mpg ... and down to late teens ........ when poodling around and not warmed-up One of the joys of owning a big Lexus........... . just pull into the forecourt and fill-up when the orange low fuel light comes on ........ there's usually about 100 miles left in her of the 85.1 litres capacity ( I think that's it ! ) .... usually costs @ £90 on a refill ..... it's only money The RX300 is probably old technology, but younger than mine ............ no biggish Lexus could be expected to be low in fuel costs .... but you probably save in reduced maintenance bills coz it's a good quality car compared to many others with cheaper to run fuel costs It's great you enjoy your car, that's one of the main benefits of owning the car you really really want ........ and lower maintenance costs too Malc

  42. The series III GS450h uses the 2GR-FSE engine, which runs the conventional Otto cycle. The series IV GS450h (2012 onwards) uses the 2GR-FXE engine, which runs the Atkinson cycle with a higher compression ratio. It is more energy efficient and where it lacks power the electric motors compensate so is ideally suited for Hybrid vehicles. All the 2GR engines are very similar.

  44. @NemesisUKyes, I have prepared to let it go after learning that there is no way to get a definite evidence to prove my point. I'm very sure about the extra 200 miles so that's why I don't want to go into too much details on it. I created this thread to ask if I could retrieve mileage history from my car to make the dealer admit the extra 200 miles they have done not to prove it hence the trickles of information. Thank you all for your help and opinion. I have sent an email to the manager to look into the steering wheel problem for me and he agreed to do it FOC if it is an easy fix but I have to pay if there is any parts need changing. From now on I will go to another dealership and always take a photo of my mileage in case something like this happens.

  45. They kept it from 19/07 morning to 21/07 afternoon. I always set the service counter interval on to make sure I bring the car to service on time so I remember the mileage very clearly.

  46. Unfortunately it is only the MY2020 and onwards that the NX was fitted with Lexus Link and therefore logs every journey the vehicle makes. Without this, a dash cam or tracker it is essentially impossible to prove the extra mileage occurred, other than a photo of the odometer when you dropped off the vehicle. I find the attitude of the manager disappointing. I'd understand it if this was a small independent backstreet garage where I'm sure they get the occasional person trying it on, but an expensive vehicle being serviced at a franchised dealer - I'd expect them to take your word on the matter. Personally I'd make sure no one you know ever uses them again. I'd suggest complaining to Lexus GB, but I have a strong suspicion that they will just side with the dealer, which they seem to do 99% of the time 😞

  48. My alarm has gone off a few times over the years. Same car as yours. It's always been an insect in the car. My solution has always been to turn off the movement sensor for a day or two until the insect escapes or dies. I particularly liked the story another contributor described on a similar thread. His alarm would go off at 1.30am each night to his great annoyance. Couldn't find the solution. Eventually his wife cracked it. Around 1.30 am each morning a fox strolled down the pavement outside the house. The next door neighbour had movement sensor floodlights and the fox passing by turned on the floodlights. The bright light made a moth in the car think it was daytime and it started fluttering about. The car thought there was an intruder and set off the alarm.

  49. I suppose what the thread shows is that we’re all different. While some take pleasure in detailing their cars for hours some are happy with a trip to the car wash and others are happy with a bucket & chamois leather. The main thing is to be happy

  50. @Mr Vlad I’ve been detailing my cars for years. Honestly, I find spending hours on my car thinking about nothing else therapeutic, similar to how others find gardening (which I hate) or going to the gym. Keep doing it, you may get hooked!
