  2. I ran a 2007 Quattroporte Executive a few years back for about 18 months as a daily, no problems. Awesome car, every time I got in it was an event and the sound from the engine was sublime. Easily one of the top three cars I've owned out of 30+. Enjoy!

  3. @Joey020 I asked the dealer why they fitted that type of parcel shelf. He said it was because people were moaning about the roller type cover as fitted to my current RX because they had to roll back the fabric cover to put things in the boot rather than the boot being fully accessible when the tailgate is lifted. My view, I prefer the roller cover, it is much less fiddly to take off and store but hey ho, we are all different in our thoughts and opinions

  4. I tested (and ordered) 450 f sport 20inch wheels. It was absolutely fine. You don't notice the extra weight much because of the electric assistance with instant torque. Note that takumi doesn't actually get any real mechanical differences to standard. I loved the car with only gripes being: 1. I just don't understand how the car feels smaller inside when it's roughly the same size as an X3 and Q5 and 2. Silly parcel shelf.

  5. Neither do I. If one says they don’t like the electric locks, they all do and they’re absolutely fine. How else are you going to include this bike and vehicle protection, you’d have to have some electrical mechanical de-couple device which would cost a fortune and be unreliable. Then they jump on the run flat bandwagon. I think they flick through a few reviews to see what other are writing before going to the trouble of making their own full assessment. This NX of mine with 20 inch wheels is super compliant over the bumps.

  6. After selling my ISF last year I have been running about in a wee Toyota starlet turbo - which I love but needed a bigger car for occasional use and longer journeys so after much research and swallowing a few brave pills took the step into Maserati ownership .

  8. This function stopped working with my 300e. Turned out it was because I had turned off smart entry! I would never have linked the two, and was assuming a glitch in the app. Lexus support were really helpful in resolving the problem, but I thought I would provide a heads up in case any one else gets the same issue [don't know if this would also apply to the hybrids though].

  9. I've owned two Audi A6s. I only owned them for two and three years respectively, but to be fair, I never had any issues with them. I've had five Mercedes E Class over the last 14 years or so, no problem with any of them either (bar an annoying occasional rattly buzz from the dashboard in my current car). Looking to downsize now, but not too much. Lexus had a few things going for it when I started looking; cost (a lot cheaper lease-wise than the Audi, BMW or Mercedes alternatives), it's still a quality marque to my mind and the Audi Q5 is such a bland, boring looking car to me. I've never had an SUV type car before, but after the test drive I am very much looking forward to having one in 6 months time (fingers crossed).

  10. Having test drived both cars, I did not find Q5 more comfy than the NX. Q5 TfsiE has a pretty poor reliability record here, huge delivery waiting time and equipment shortages NX all the way !!!

  13. I agree, but surely even a blind man on the No.87 bus can see that we just cannot possibly do away with fossil fuels until we have a viable alternative in place beforehand. We are woefully short of doing that yet so we need new oil and gas fields, and maybe even start digging for coal again, to avoid being held to ransom by the foreign powers who supply our energy needs.

  14. First questions I would ask - do you actually have any issue with your gearbox so you considering this? Not only because of "whenever you looking for issues", but as well because if this process causes some issues it will be easier to prove i.e. if there were no problems before you did it, then the process caused the issue, but if there were already issue and they became worse it would be very difficult to prove it caused further damage. Second question - does the company doing the job provides any guarantee or at least have suitable insurance cover to support you if you face issues? Finally, let's not confuse the two - ATF top-up, replacement, refresh etc is not "flushing the transmission" and it does not clean it. It is very simple process - drain ATF and replace it with same just new ATF. When you say cleaning chemicals, this is completely different process. I can't say for sure how it works and what it does, but it is fundamentally more complex process which cleans transmission internally before replacing the fluid. How do they ensure there is no "cleaning" chemical are left in the transmission after it is done I have no clue and if any left then how do they ensure that does not cause issues for transmission going forward I don't know either. In any case this is more risky than ATF change and I would not recommend it unless you already have an issue and this is the last resort.

  15. In the medium term, energy prices will remain high. That's because our government is like a number of other Western Governments wedded to "Net Zero" as a policy for the near future. They are as zealous in their push to wean us of fossil fuels as they were to stop people smoking. If they haven't reduced fuel duty by now in a bit to soften the blow, I don't think they are going to any time soon. I'm just glad unlike the poor Scots in the North, our Government hasn't started messing about with alcohol prices too much. I mean how would our teenagers cope without a ready supply of cheap cider? 😄

  20. I don’t think there is a defined service life on water pumps. Your pump was replaced under warranty after just 4 years and this one is still OK after 10 years, my now sold 1994 Celsior still had it’s original after 26 years. It would certainly be easier to replace whilst the radiator is out of the way but given it’s serpentine belt driven not cam belt driven it’s not a major strip down to replace it later if it fails. A visual inspection would reveal any seepage from the gasket and bearing seals, a rock and spin on the pulley any bearing play or noise and I would imagine given Lexus quality the impeller won’t just fall off the shaft like some other lesser makes of car. LPD do have them discounted if you go ahead and replace it.

  21. I read somewhere on the US site that a member dismantled his speedo and cleaned the rotating shaft at the base as it had oily residue on it which caused it to stick. He seemed to think that this lubricant was applied at manufacture and hardened up over time, he cleaned it up and the problem disappeared.

  22. If thumping it frees up the speedo, then something is sticking. If anyone feels brave, you could open it up and see if you can discover what is sticking and maybe clean it. It may be that it has worn a notch in the mechanism, or could be a cracked solder joint that is disconnecting and reconnecting when jolted.

  23. What about buying a used instrument cluster, there are a few on Ebay for around £100. Easy to replace and you will have spares in case the cathode tubes or anything else goes faulty.

  25. I suspect that it is a limiter (equates to 270 kph). The RCF has a similar quoted top speed and it accelerates well up to a point then stops you going faster. The speedo on mine read 177 mph when electronics stopped the fun, despite repeated attempts to go faster. I imagine 177 on the clock was 168 actual. I can recommend the newish 3 lane section of Autobahn 4 to the East of Aachen, early on summer Sunday. Conveniently it is on the route between Spa and the Nurburgring

  26. I have no idea of your set-up or the complexity of change BUT on our beloved Ls400s we change the cambelt and waterpump at 100k miles / 10 years ...... it's a big big job with ours sadly ... I've changed waterpumps on other marques whrere the complexity just hasn't been there thankfully Hope someone brings you the definitive answer soon Malc

  27. Recently, the blower motor on my IS250 started to make a horrible rumbling sound which was more prominent at higher settings but gradually got worse. A new motor from Lexus is pushing £500 and one from a breaker about £70 to £100. Of course a used one might end up the same depending on mileage. A quick look on Youtube found the following video on removing and dismantling the fan. I took his advice and bought a couple of small ball bearings and fitted them but they didn't work and were very noisey. I removed the 2 bronze bushes and measured them and the shaft from the fan. The shaft was approx 8mm and the bushes had an inside diameter slightly bigger but had worn badly causing the fan to rock. The outside diameter of the bushed was 14mm and about 14.5mm long. A search resulted in finding a supplier of new oilite self lubricating bushes but imperial. 5/16 x 9/16 x 3/4 which are very close. So having bought two of these and some new Starlock washers, I basically started an 8mm drill through the center to slightly enlarge the hole and kept trying them for a fit over the shaft until it was a smooth fit. Next I had to reduce the outside diameter a fraction so I could press them into the plastic carrier in the coil windings. Assembled everything with a new Starlock washer and the fan is now whisper quiet. All done for just over £10. One other thing is that the guy in the video describes the circular disc under the locking washer as a thrust washer. It is actually magnetic and I think has a part to play in the electronics so don't break it. I also took out the top washer of three at the bottom of the shaft and put a copper washer so the flanged bush would bear and run on that. Taking the fan out and pulling apart can be done in minutes. Links to video and suppliers below. The whole process is much easier than reading the above would have you believe. https://www.hendersonbearings.co.uk/catalog/product/view/id/74546 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/163259494535

  28. Just an update. Blower motor still working quietly and I should add that when assembling the motor spindle into the new bearings, I added a bit of Moly grease even though these are "oilite" bushes.

  30. I saw that video and it's actually pretty good for repairing what i need to repair. Currently sat waiting on Lexus Cheltenham to post me out the parts i require. To be fair OEM was not too expensive. £9 for both including postage. Couldn't get the seals anywhere else without the entire unit and i don't fancy chucking on some nitrile o-rings from screwfix.

  31. this is just brilliant .......... over 22 years driving a Ls400 people have been in quite some awe of me and my car ... well, the car really that long ago coz they were new and rare to be seen on the roads . then a bit more common . but now, again in awe coz it's so rare to see one on the roads I've probably driven 250k miles over those years in a Ls400 .... I've enjoyed supreme comfort, style, reliability, power and acceleration at Will and by the bucket load .. and enjoyed every single moment of my motoring, the UK, Ireland and much of Europe ....... Ok there's a few dings from time to time and this old lady is now a quite presentable but Cat N ...........4 ltr V8 limo I would earnestly encourage you to drive your cars to the fullest you can, to enjoy every minute of owning your car and not to worry too much about the inevitable odd dings and dents Life is for living and one fine day it will all come to a sudden STOP ...... so Just get out there and ENJOY ........ it's so important to do so ... don't live to regret not enjoying your car Malc

  32. You haven't got an RX petrol, you've got a hybrid. Given the size and weight of the car, a petrol only RX would do well to return 20mpg but my 450h regularly gets 35+ I can live with that.
