  2. i have noticed the washer spray pattern has been getting lower and lower down the windscreen , i finally removed both of the jets and using a jug of hot water with a sterilising tablet and a spare washer pump i circulated the hot water through the jets and back into the jug ,i was very surprised with the colour of the water and after refitting the jets they work like new again.

  5. Hi Les and John, That is the conclusion I came to as well... Booked into Listers at Cheltenham on Thursday for diagnostic check - £80 + vat, which I don't think is too bad at all, as I could end up spending more than that just changing out parts trying to find the answer. Got to say that I've been delighted with the car. I had Jeep Grand Cherokees for years but when the last one started playing up I decided it was time for a change, especially as I had a bit of a journey coming up. I spotted the RX300 on AutoTrader and thought it looked nice and when the Dealer offered me £1,200 in part-ex for my old V8 Jeep, I was off down to Southampton before he had time to change his mind! Five weeks later I drove to Kiev and back ...and it didn't miss a beat, even when driving over some of the worst "roads" I have encountered for a long time (actually, that was in Ukraine as well) and through what I can only describe as a monsoon. It was loaded to the gunwales with four adults plus baggage, was a solid as a rock and almost silent ...such a pleasent change from the Jeep!!

  6. Cheers Guys. So I make that 3 orders placed so far? Any more for any more?! Don't know if Simon/Rafi actually set any sort of cut-off date, but we will need to agree one in order for me to arrange delivery to you fine folks. Simon will be putting these orders to one side ready for collection by me, or one of my mates over there. I don't want anyone to miss out on this great opportunity to buy a solid product that will actually add a lot of value to your F's handling, but appreciate those of you who've ordered don't want to wait forever........ Let me know when you think we should close the door on this (maybe end of October?), and I can then start making plans to get these over here to distribute. All the best, Pete

  8. Just in case you suffer a breakdown of the sort that renders the car immobile but the engine still runs alright, you may wish to have a copy of this book in the glove box (I've got the paper version of the book and tried it with an old car and it does indeed work well!):

  10. hmmmmmm, whoever did the paint job didn't get a properly good match with the bridge But I like the " burgundy " , is it ? and I like the interior colour too .... the rest of the car i would find just so complex and daunting to drive tbh It would probably take me the rest of my days to learn what all the bits and pieces are for. 11. Hey everyone, so my old car has gone creating the way for my dream project! Always wanted to do this build its had to wait its turn and now is the perfect timing for it! My old car was a MK1 Focus RS for anyone interested, i was pretty big into the ford scene going to nearly all the main ford shows in the calender. The Focus was running a healthy 411bhp, i had this for around 5yrs and once i completed a trip to he nurburgring it was time to sell. I took my time looking for an IS300, i wanted 1 which was solid with no rust. It had to be lowish miles and clean. I met almost all the plans....... i found an IS300 with just 28k geniune miles on it but .................. it was a cat c. The car itself wasnt too bad, the damage making it a cat c was front bumper, n/s/f wing, door and n/s/r door all dented from a drunk driver managing to smash every car is this poor blokes street. Not wanting to loose this car i drove 2hrs to rhyl the day it went up for sale. Quick scoot round it checking that the damage was limited to just panels and not suspension and sills, no signs of any rust and interior was absolutly immaculate. Gave it a very short drive up and down this guys street and i was happy so deposit was left. There was no way i was doing a long road test or driving this thing back though as it had 3 nakered tyres and all different tyre sizes! Got my mate to stick it on his trailor and dragged her home. From the pictures you can this thing was peppered with bird sh!t, paintwork ropey, damage on the n/s, stupid rubber strip things stuck to the bumpers, bulge in the tyre...... this would have put most people off but i could see past all this as that low miles factor was the key. So a quick wash later and now i could see what im dealing with Didnt scrub up too bad tbh i was suprised. Paintwork up close was heavily stained with bird crap and water marks. Sooooo off i went again, cleaned up the bonnet, roof and boot lid 1st with a claybar and quick detailer, after just doing a small section of the bonnet i knew i had my work cut out.... But i carried on finishing off 2 clay bars in the process! I then hit it with the DA and 3m fast cut just 2 passes and 1 pass with the ultrafina and i was amazed.... Now down to the fun stuff...... I stripped it down, both bumpers, front wings, all 4 wheels and arch liners out and all undertrays removed. I must have pulled out 14lbs worth of sand off all the trays! Needless to say if this was left on the coast and not cleaned up it would have been a rust bucket! I then gave it a good deep clean of the wheel arches unfortunatly the car did not escape the dreaded tin worm, but it is just surface rust so shouldnt be a problem to clean up! I dried her off and tucked her away back in the garage.

  12. Good afternoon all, I've just ordered my first Lexus - an NX300h Sport in Mercury Grey with the parking and protection packs - after a good few years with Honda. I'm currently a moderator over on the HondaKarma forum, and the move away from a brand I've had for quite some time and one that I have a great respect for has been a difficult decision. Why an NX300h? Well, I only buy from Japanese manufacturers as I value the build quality and reliability after some bad experiences a few years ago with overpriced German rubbish - don't get me started on the VAG DSG gearbox! I looked at a new CR-V to replace my current CR-V, but to be frank I think it is a little out-dated now especially when compared to the Lexus. I like the way the NX looks, I like the interior quality and I liked the drive - in the end it was an easier decision than I expected. There were two deciding factors - one positive reason for buying and one negative. The positive was the deal and service from Lexus Swindon which has been simply excellent. The negative was that Honda have what they call 'Connect' as their latest 'app' based satnav and audio system, and IMHO it is hopeless. I'm not into tech, and just want stuff that is simple to use - and the Lexus standard system reminds me of the system in my current CR-V, and that was a real positive. I'm hoping to be an active member here, and looking forward to getting to know you all. I should pick up the car in a couple of weeks.

  13. The strut with the broken spring is out and now stripped down, it actually takes longer to remove the rear seat and parcel shelf! This is TEMS strut so has the wiring which controls valves inside to vary the damping, the connector took a bit of working out as it has 3 pieces to enable the top mount nut to pass over it. Bushings and mounts are all reuseable even after 23 years.

  14. Welcome Matthew, If I had to bet, I would say blocked EGR valve. Quick and easy to fix, so fingers crossed that is where the problem is. At what RPM does the turbo kick in? Anything much above 1600-1700rpm and the EGR Valve being blocked becomes more likely. Although what Ian suggests is a good idea, so it is worth following his advice.

  15. Hi Stephen and welcome to the LOC UK. To accurately diagnose the fault you really need the fault codes read, Lexus vehicles can be a little picky with aftermarket code readers and Lexus will charge around £60.00 I think to do it. A very common cause apparently is a clogged up EGR valve which can be cleaned on a DIY basic ( this is not done routinely as part of a service). It may be worth doing this to see if it sorts out the fault. Have a read here Type in "Lexus IS220d EGR cleaning" into google and look for the video tutorials.

  16. Interesting. I find it surprising that what some manufacturers fit as standard - none of my Hondas had memory seats but all had the mirror tilt function - others don't. Ho hum, hardly a show stopper, especially with the amazing discounts Lexus are giving on the Sport models! I was also told that the parking pack had the same functionality as that fitted to the Luxury grade, which is true to a point...again, discounts hard to come by on a Luxury but thousands of pounds on a Sport, so do I care? Nope... Especially given the quality and drive of the NX. What an interior...just wonderful. Thanks @rayaans much appreciated.

  17. 1) I believe the Sport spec doesn't have that function. The dipping mirrors are only available if you have memory seats which is only available on F-Sport with Premier pack or on the Premier trim. This is because if there's no memory function, the mirrors don't know which position to go back to. 2) The Parking pack is a dealer fitted option and doesn't come from the factory. Therefore, its not connected to the central screen in any way so you will only hear audible beeps. The Luxury and above grades come with factory fitted parking sensors which feed to the central screen. 3) no idea on DAB, don't use it much as FM sounds better to my ears.

  19. Finally picked up my new NX this afternoon. The side protectors are still on order, so will be fitted at some point over the next couple of weeks. Rob at Lexus Swindon has been excellent all the way through the buying process, and barring a small scuff to one of the interior trims (lower door) the car is beautifully presented. There are some small things I'll miss from my Honda - I personally find Lexus standard specification a bit odd, but having been with Honda for years maybe that's no surprise. No auto dimming rear view mirror, lumbar on the front seats and a navigation system that doesn't drop the volume of the radio when giving instructions are odd exclusions for a car costing £30k plus IMHO, although the quiet drive, general quality and things like the collision detection and radar cruise control all make up for that. One thing i know I'll miss is the passenger mirror doesn't seem to dip when you select reverse, unless I'm missing something? Many happy and smooth miles ahead of me and my Lexus I hope...sure I'll have questions, will ask them in the NX section as and when they crop up. Now, I'm off to play...

  20. Given how long it's taken some of us to find out all the subtle bits in our 400's I agree with you, I will not live long enough to play with everything in a 500.

  21. In all seriousness, about this time of year I do make sure I have a decent de-icer (Halfords in a trigger spray, not the aerosol muck) and keep the screenwash topped up. Other than that not much else unless I'm planning a journey then it's the Kendal Mint Cake, dragon glass, warm coat, sprouts etc. However, the other car on the fleet is a 2014 XC90 and winter or all season tyres are a wonderful thing on the odd occasions the white stuff comes down. Unfortunately these days we do have this ridiculous marketing spread of winter, summer and all season tyres. Most cars come with what seem to be classed as summer tyres due to our current obsession with large alloys, ridiculously low profile tyres and the ability to do the Nurburgring in less than 10 minutes even though most of the time we're doing 5mph on the way to or from work. For the last few family wagons I've run the factory fit tyres until it's justified to get rid and fitted winters or all seasons and run them year round. Sounding a bit Wurther's Original but it's how tyres used to be

  22. I thought I should reply to with the outcome in case someone else has the same problem and does a forum search. Dealer investigated and found it was a fault due to faulty pins in the door detecting if/when closed etc. They said the cost would be £90 to rectify. It was all done foc under the Lexus used Warranty. I imagine if you didn't have a warranty and could source some pins and it could be done relatively cheaply.

  23. This is my understanding, yes. However, once the green 'ready' light is on, the hybrid battery takes over and power is supplied to accessories from that. At this 'ready' point, the car is on, and in a non-hybrid vehicle, the combustion engine would be running and powering all the accessories. If your hybrid has shut its combustion engine off, the hybrid battery is able to power and run all accessories that the driver is demanding. The hybrid in 'ready' state is a substitute for a running petrol engine. This is my understanding.

  25. Yes that would be an interesting swap for sure but i do like the sound of a NA v8, nice induction set up and make it scream. I wasnt much of a fan when thses came out but like said already the more i look at them the more i like them. Especially with a few tweeks to the outside, lowered, wheels and a kit and it transforms them

  26. So time for some more updates, firstly ive just become a gold member 🤘 got to support the club. Ive tried to change my profile name too but im not sure thats worked. On to the car and time for some more transmission bits, next up was the pedal swap and master cylinder fitment. I was going to use the wilwood master supplied with the clutch kit but as this was designed for a mk3 supra, the billet adaptor supplied would have to be modified to fit the IS300. I really looked into this but i just could not see a way round it without butchering the billet adaptor and i did not want it looking crap. I decided the wilwood master would be sold and i am going for an IS200 OEM master and clutch line. This would again be using original toyota/lexus parts making it look nice and factory fitted. I first of all made a little template out of card to mark the bulk head. I then marked up the bulk head and drilled the holes for the master cylinder studs I the used a cone cutter to cut the hole for the mater cylinder plunger to go through. As you can see good old toyota came up trumps again by leaving a hole in the insulation for the bulk head exposing the master cylinder location. This was the same for the inside of the car on the bulk head insulation. It was pre cut so all i had to do was pull it out. I then fitted the master ready for the pedal to go in. Now as this was auto i would have to swap out the large auto pedal for the manual pedal, ebay provided these. Went from this ........ To this .......... Thats better, looking like a proper original manual now! Master cylinder all bolted up to the pedal box now and a paper gasket used. Just waiting on the factory clutch line now and the beauty of this is the clips on the bulk head holding the brake lines have the blank space for the line the clip into. So no ugly braided line hanging across the bay and another part i can sell on with the wilwood master. Whilst i was at toyota i also ordered a gear pattern plaque for the center console, not fitting this yet but just thought it would be a nice touch to make it look OEM factory fitted. This brings me up to date, from here updates will be slower but i will keep this going soon as i get something else done. Once the clutch line comes, next weekend im hoping the engine will be out so some juicy updates to come.

  27. It may be of interest that more readily available CR 2032 cells will work perfectly well as the voltage is the same. The downside is that they will only last about half the time period "about 4 to 5 years" because of there smaller size and capacity. John.

  36. Today I thought I'd measure up for some silver strip for the front and rear bumpers as mine were grey but the stripes on the side of the car are silver. Anyway, as I was doing this I suddenly thought, surely they don't just need a rub like the grill fins did, could they? So I thinned out some G3 rubbing compound with some water and gave it a gentle rub. Yes really, for some reason Lexus UK decided to cover up more shiney stuff with a light coat of grey. What amazes me more is that somehow it's stayed like that for near on 14 years without giving up it's secret. So once again Lexus UK has decided to dumb down part of a beautiful car here, and yet the US market gets to have the shines bits straight out the box. Why? Anyway, pictures. Bod

  37. Here are a few photos of my RX300 purchased this week. Impressions Dealer:- Very pleased with the dealer description of this Lexus, as I did not wish to travel 150 miles just to turn round and go home. I viewed an almost identical car locally and it was dire in comparison to this one. It has had only one owner from new and a full Toyota (Listers) service history – Lexus Hatfield before that. It appears to have been well looked after, possibly garaged. The owner sadly died. There was ¾ of a tank of fuel left in it! Only a couple of small things I can find. One remote key is broken and the other does not unlock the car. You can still use the seat settings by pressing buttons 1 or 2. I was told all this by the dealer before I travelled. Fingernail scratches on the passenger door handle. When I took the RX out today the main window controls would not work! Thanks to this wonderful site, I had read about re-programming them – AND it worked! That could have been a real downer. Initial Impressions:- I was pleased with the test drive and drove it the 150 miles home. Driving the RX 300 was an eye opener. I had expected it to wallow in the corners and be a bit sluggish compared to my LS 400. The gearbox seemed to change quite quickly and smoothly. I was also surprised how good the ride was, I was expecting it to be quite hard. It holds the road really well and the steering gives me a feeling of confidence. The high driving position adds to that feeling. I have tried not to compare it with my LS400, as they are very different vehicles, but to be honest it has the same feel of quality. I do not think I could be more pleased if I had bought a much newer RX. I would like to thank Rayaans, for his help in compiling a checklist. It is early days yet but my initial impressions are very positive. Just a quick tip when viewing cars on-line – make sure your computer screen is clean!

  39. I left the Celsior at a hotel near to East Midlands airport whilst on holiday and came back to a very slammed rear end. On the near side I could just get my fingers between the tyre and arch but the offside was so low there was no gap at all. Got the AA out and discovered that the offside spring had broken and slipped over the bottom mounting. No other option but a rear lift tow back home, the AA have some clever little devices which they fit around the damper/shock absorber to stop the suspension from bottoming out completely during transportation. 2 new KYB springs ordered, job doesn't look too bad but mine has the TEMS so may be a bit more involved, can't grumble with 23 years old springs and UK roads.
