I do prefer the LS430 over the LS400, thatās not to say I donāt like the LS400, itās still a great car. The LS430 feels a lot more modern and feels that bit more refined to me. The LS430 has a lot more leg and headroom than the LS400 and it has more toys which I like!!! Some people question the styling of the LS430, particularly the front end saying it looks too ostentatious with the big chrome grille and big headlights but I like that!!! I certainly donāt buy into this notion that the LS430 isnāt as well made as the LS400, its true the LS430 is a more complex car but that doesnāt mean it isnāt well made and the LS400 is by no means invincible, they can have their fair share of foibles too like any car can. My current LS430 feels very solid with no squeaks, rattles, knocks or bangs anywhere, it also feels less plasticky than the LS400 probably due to the increased wood, brushed aluminium and velour covered pillars rather than plastic. LS400s are becoming increasingly scarce but I see absolutely no reason why anybody should see the LS430 as second best. The key with the LS430 is to find one thatās been well looked after with good service history and cambelt changed, change the radiator if it hasnāt already been done to prevent the water in the gearbox issue, check everything works (like you would any car) and thatās it!!! I got it wrong with my first LS430 from Old Baz and ended up with a bad one and admittedly that put me off them for a while but I didnāt know exactly what to check for then and thatās where this forum has proved invaluable.2 points

I'm still deciding what tyres to put on my LS 400 17" dhp wheels, I need all five as I'm changing to a different size, due to expense and the age (2007) of my existing tyres. As usual I'm doing my research re noise , handling etc ( I probably overdo the research at times ) It occurred to me that I do low mileage (currently on 69000), so the next replacements may be needed due to age rather than mileage. I contacted Blackcircles and asked whether I could specify tyres with a very recent date (DOT number), to ensure that I get the maximum lifespan. Their response explained that they could not guarantee recent tyres, as they obtained tyres from many suppliers. They also explained that tyres sold as new can be up to five years old, by law. It seems to be the luck of the draw, but your new tyres may have been manufactured a month ago, or 59 months ago. Obviously, much depends on handling and storage (exposure to sunlight etc), but I imagine the process of perishing starts immediately. I'd bet this is not common knowledge. it probably is not an issue for people who do greater mileages, but for me, it could be.1 point

This was to the date the cheapest RC-F ever sold on Auto trader at Ā£32k over 6 month ago. Sadly the video was no available back then as I would guess it would have added extra confidence for any buyer that car is not smashed underneath. As for the colour, my personal opinion is that it is ugly - but that is exactly the point of the wrap, you put it on... play around maybe have the car tracked few times, maybe it helps to get trough boring winter days... But in the end you not committed to the colour and you can peel it away anytime you feel you had enough of this.1 point

Thanks again for all the feedback. Spoke to the dealer today and it has full Lexus service history. Iām hoping to view and drive it at the weekend.1 point

One option to guarantee a recent production date is to buy a tyre which has only been recently introduced.1 point

As far as I know the 7x17" wheels on a S3 GS (as fitted to the 300 and post 2010 450h SE) are ET50. The tyre size is 225/50 R17. As for the brake calipers I believe the front ones on the 430, 450h and 460 are the same but I think the ones on the 300 are different.1 point

I've bought from these people in the past and never had a Tyre date I wasn't satisfied with. I have them delivered and then arrange fitting at a local Tyre / Exhaust fitter. I have standard size wheels for the Car. https://www.camskill.co.uk/1 point

Nice one Glad it worked. Do you mean single spaces between the first and second part of the number? E.g. 07770 000000? If so, then that is odd since I have the same formatting on my phone and they appear on my car without problem?1 point

A new tyre is one that has not been used Harry. In my opinion however a tyre that was manufactured 5 years ago cannot be treated by a purchaser as new and in all likelihood does not conform to current manfacturing specification of a new tyre . If you want a new tyre you should specify that it must have been manufactured within the last 12 mnoths and conforms with the current spcification for that tyre. Similarly a "new car" can have been manufactured over 12 months ago,but has sat in a Compound somewhere, but is still sold "as new".So the thing to do is to specify that your new car must have been manufactured within the last 12 months and its spec is identical to the current spec of that model. Just my view.1 point

Looks good. Didn't quite have that much snow round our way last week but made it up hills with a couple of inches of fresh snow no problem with the Michelin Cross Climate tyres on the car. Someone else in an Audi A1 with summer tyres didn't fair so well. I have a traction control off button on mine?1 point

Yes, not so much the worry of needing a new rad but the transmission chaos which seems to follow. What I would personally do is first of all take into account the age of the car & with that in mind I would change the rad & drive round for years without the slightest worry or interest in the rad. After all, very few cars have nothing at all go wrong with them in 11 years, age degenerates everything to some degree, the reason the rad has become so much of an emphasis with the 430 is because of the transmission problem it causes.............end of1 point

I looked at this. Nippon Autospares in Derby were the best price at the time. Give them a ring to make sure they are the actual part you need and are brand new though, this was double checked by me at the time but there was some scepticism over the prices they were quoting. Also, they can better their ebay price buying direct. Good luck!1 point

One of the advantages of changing the radiator is that you get to have fresh coolant which has to be a plus.1 point

Excellent and well done. Did mine in stainless and it is slightly louder than before but better for it. I had them call me and email me video files before and after from inside and outside the car. They could have made it quieter but would have been smaller bore and it does benefit from the extra breathing. Car sounds good, inside and outside, and slightly better oomph.1 point

Andrew I agree with your solution. I my case I have the little MiFi because the property I go to has no WiFi and my wife's phone has a very limited data allowance. What data SIMs do people buy? I use EE because their 4G signal is good at the property (nothing else is) and always buy new SIM rather than topping up which is very expensive. John1 point

Ok, been out to take a look (sorry, forgot to do it yesterday). This is what I did: First, you need to disconnect the phone from the cars Bluetooth (I forgot to get a picture of how to get here. If you press your phone dial button, you should then be able to see a Settings option in the bottom left): Then, select Phonebook: Next, if you want to start from scratch, you can delete the current contacts by pressing Delete: You then press the Transfer data button: The next screen (which I also forgot to picture) is if you want to have more then one group of contacts. In my case I didn't, so I just selected Group00. Now, on your phone, you go to your Contacts, and select Share: Something similar to the following should appear giving the option to select and transfer all: You then select sharing by Bluetooth: The source will be whatever the Bluetooth name of your car is called, in my case Hands Free: The car should display this during this time: Once the phone has finished, a notification similar to this one appears: The car screen should have now reverted to this: As you can see, I transferred 70 contacts. They all appear to be present: Finally, remember to reactivate Auto connect: And that should do it. There may be some slight differences. One thing to note is that all my contacts are stored in the same place on my phone. This may not work if you have more then one location enabled. Another thing is that this is on my IS220d, which I believe uses the Gen 05 sat nav system. The phone used is a Samsung Galaxy S8. I hope this is helpful to some of you.1 point

Well if you want to play like that - 1) Read my comment - I said "I think the PPF needs removing" - usually when someone says "I think" it usually means that its their opinion. Nobody said you had to do it. 2) Autobrite products are OK, there are better out there. Again my opinion but many people agree with me. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to do some research and find out. 3) It will be back in 6 months - I've been doing this a while - you would think I know what I'm talking about - its not a case of stopping swirls from happening, its about reducing the likelihood of it getting worse. 4) Spell technique properly - its annoying. 5) I also said nice work in my original post, which it is, but that doesn't mean it wont come back. I've owned these cars for over 12 years now and I know that the Black paint, particularly Velvet black is extremely soft and will be scratched just by running a microfiber cloth over it. 6) Someone's been telling porkies because they don't make their own products - there are many suppliers behind what's in the bottles. I suggest you speak to Mark at Autobrite to confirm if you're really interested though! "A little learning is a dangerous thing....." P.S if you want to share results of detailing, don't clog up the IS forum and stick it in the detailing forum - the number of posts I've reported this week for being in irrelevant sections is unbelievable. Thank you, have a good day!1 point
