  1. I’d still recommend getting a cheap reader. Even if you’re not handy with the spanners, it’s still useful to be armed with some info when it goes into a garage with “issues”. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  2. Just spotted this! Congratulations on the new car, looks great. I too purchased my GS450 from Lexus Edgware Road and recognise that room they sit you down in for paperwork while you look at your "new" car through the windows, very theatrical and good fun. Have fun with it!

  3. Hi Mark. Welcome to LOC. I would expect mid to high 30s on a motorway run, but at 75 to 90 your not pushing it in any way. I drive twisty country roads with some zest, lots of. accelerating and braking returning the mid 30s. The lowest tank full ever was 32 mpg. I would not be concerned with the battery. The shocks are prone to leeking at around 250 each if you fit them yourself. Not difficult as a spring compressor is not required The exhaust is prone tto failure at the rear Y pice. The rear section is around 850 complete about 1250. A purpose made stainless system is the way to go. John

  4. Hi Nick, welcome to LOC and congratulations with the new car! Enjoy it! I am like you moved from BMW and was surprised how different Lexus feels to BMW, agree with all your points, Lexus just is so relaxing and you don't need to prove anything to anyone while driving, even other drivers are nicer to you! lol! Happy New Year!

  6. I wouldn't even consider trying to rebuild this car. It saved your life by folding correctly and absorbing all the kinetic energy that would have scrambled your insides. I don't believe anyone could give the car the accident safety to factory standards. I once went to an accident where a Saab got hit by an Artic. The kinetic energy from the impact was so great that the Saab suffered very little damage but unlike your car didn't dissipate the energy (older technology). Both occupants barely marked but stone dead from their innards absorbing all the energy rather than the car dissipating it. This is why would take the money and run.

  7. I had an 'Advisory' for 'cracks' in the tyres ( between tread) on my daughters Fiat 500 and to my they were very badly cracked so they must have to be horrendous to actually fail! The tyre might/should have a date on it in the format of week/year ie 16/13. paul m

  8. Hi, I have Dunlop Sportmaxx on my CT, fitted 30 months ago and there are cracks between the treads! Mine passed the MOT last time with them, coming up for a new MOT on Monday, I'll let you know if it passes again!

  9. No problem Ian, glad to help if I can. It's possible to replace cell blocks as and when necessary rather than a whole battery at once, but I suppose there will come a time when age just takes its toll.

  10. Hi everyone, After having driven Mercedes cars for several years (W204 C220 CDI, W204 C350 CDI, W212 350CDI, W212 6.3 E63AM Performance Pack) and BMW for over a year and half (F10 520D SE), I was thinking of changing my car with something more environmental friendly and ULEZ free (since I live in London) and above all, I wanted another car with no Diesel engine - I have read a lot of posts and articles about dirty diesel and shockingly all diesels even new cars emits too much NOX including the EURO 6 Diesels! In fact, they should be banned on the road in my honest opinion. So, it was no brainer that LEXUS got my initial interest since they do not make any Diesel engines anymore and that they have been mastering the self-charging Hybrid technology - So I had my interest with the IS300 H F sport, which I had been looking around but in the end, I actually found a beautiful GS450H (2014 Luxury) with my local Lexus dealership, which looks absolutely beautiful, understated and very comfortable and roomy inside (with a very powerful engine combined with electric engine). I finally got the car on the 24th Dec 18 and I can honestly say that it is by far the best car I have ever driven - it is simply such a luxurious car to drive, far more smooth than the BMW I drove and the seats are so comfortable. Lexus has done a wonderful job here and I am perplexed that it is not getting more credits from the press (lots of journalists are so pro German cars). Lexus is different for sure and for the best actually. Here are my honest views so far: EXTERIOR LOOK AND ENGINE Simply beautiful and understated at the same time, no one would know that this car is a very powerful machine 3.5 V6 but with the electric power it feels like a 4.5 V6. In fact I took it for a spin on the motorway and was blown away with the amount of torque it delivers (it reminded me of my E63 AMG!). In town, it drives so smoothly and the suspensions are definitely smoother than my predecessor BMW car. The car is silent and it is clever actually, as it encourages you as a driver to drive gently (as opposed to BMW) to benefit the electric power. INTERIOR AND SAT NAV SYSTEM Again, it is a breath of fresh air and love the simplicity and luxurious feel of the leather around the dashboard. the seats are superb and more comfortable than the BMW and a bit more elevated than before, but I am happy with the visibility around. I love the leather gear box, it feels solid and glad it is in the centre console (Mercedes have made a terrible mistake to put the gear behind the steering wheel). The SAT NAV system is very different to any system that I have had (Mercedes and BMW) and heard a lot of bad press about it with the mouse pad, but frankly it actually exceeded my expectations: it is fine using the mouse pad (after a bit of practice) and the system is actually a good one to use and for many reasons I can say it is a brilliant system: I can receive my emails, sms texts, live traffic information at no extra cost - with BMW, you would have to pay an annual subscription of £140 to receive emails, sms, RTTI (real Traffic Time Info). Really pleased with the system. I can use bluetooth connection (Spotify) and USB (iPod) to listen to my music and the sound system (basic system with 10 speakers) is actually very good and clear. The sat nav is ok to use also - BMW has a better graphic with 3D but overall, the Lexus sat nav does the job well. DEALERSHIP SERVICE I bought the car from LEXUS Edgware Road and so far, the staff have been brilliant ensuring I am happy with my Lexus car. It will be returning to the dealership this week, so that my alloys are refurbished (a few scratches were found when car was for sale), including a paint job to be done at the back of the bumper. So, they will provide me with a courtesy car until all jobs are completed. If I had waited for the jobs to be done, the car would only have been ready on 9th Jan, so I could not wait this long and wanted to drive it as quickly as possible. Overall, I am extremely excited to be part of this exclusive brand and I am looking forward to many months of driving this machine...

  11. Thanks everyone for the lovely comments! You are right I was in the 'handover room' doing all the paper work before getting to drive the car away. They made this moment quite special I must say as I never had this kind of treatment. whilst the paper work was being done, I could see someone doing cleaning on my car through the dark windows... I am very excited to be driving this car and it is so smooth. I am trying to find all sorts of excuses to get out picking something from the shops...

  12. Well fitted the new unit over the hols. Very easy to change. The second hand light cluster had the wiring attached. All I had to do was remove the battery cover and a few more plastic tabs to get the lining back far enough to reach in and undo 3 fixing bolts which are very lightly torqued. Plugged in the new unit and bolted up, all working 😊 Probably a 10 minute job if you've done it before. Took me half an hour being cautious.

  13. Whoops Not going to edit it now, but you are absolutely right. What's interesting is that I use the phrase 'see if you can hear it' in conversation with the context of 'examine this...', so it has taken on a double meaning for me. That's what you get for writing phonetically I suppose.

  14. I am left handed John. I use the mouse in my right hand and use two hands on the keyboard. I operate the car systems with my left hand as is required. I eat right handed, wear my watch on my left wrist and play golf left handed. I played cricket left handed with a right handed bat. I wrote badly at school left handed because they gave me a right handed nib in the pen. I played tennis, table tennis and squash left handed. I cannot use right handed scissors, but can use a right handed potato peeler. Your question has opened a bag of worms my friend!

  15. You would need to buy whole rear sub frame, axel, maybe diff too. Have you check prop shaft ? Sub frame mounting points can also be damaged. It is a lot of work and there is no warranty you will be able to align everything as needed. It is ISF and not Megane as from my link after all and even small misalignment will be bad. Some parts: - https://allegro.pl/oferta/lexus-isf-5-0-v8-10r-zawieszenie-tyl-7069544716 - rear sub frame with all arms (without shocks) - £210 - https://allegro.pl/oferta/dyfer-dyferencjal-lexus-is-f-isf-7735900046 - diff - £420 - https://allegro.pl/lexus-isf-5-0-v8-2010r-polos-komplet-p-l-i7069509768.html - both axels - £210 - https://allegro.pl/lexus-is-isf-zderzak-tylny-i7712699191.html - rear bumper - £180 and check this one out, looks like specially for you: - https://allegro.pl/lexus-isf-is-5-0-06-12r-tyl-ciety-i7108668664.html -whole rear chassis cut out with fenders, boot lid, lamps etc. They can probably cut as much as you want, like buying some beef with butcher 🙂 In your case it might be easier to just cut out whole rear of the car and weld the one from last link. You got better chances for proper chases geometry. That what have happened to RX7 but in this case front was smashed 😛 Anyway it would be easier to ship whole car to Poland and source parts there. If I'm correct I've paid £300-£400 for RX7 to be send over there. In your case you could drive it back.

  16. Having spraffed on earlier in this thread about how I feel the same as Matt... the irony is, when my mate had my LS400 for those 4 years, whenever he mentioned getting rid of the car due to upcoming repair bills I always told him in the strongest possible terms... DON'T DO IT! I always said he should go 'Alistair Darling' on it and spend "whatever it takes" to keep the best car he's ever going to drive on the road. Perhaps I knew I might get it back one day Now the shoe is on my foot!! Well, today, I finally got around to disconnecting the wind screen washer level sensor so I no longer have to look at the little orange warning light on the dash (should have done that years ago, took 5 mins) also cleaned the pollen filter (it was filthy). Sunny afternoon here, so took I it out for a drive just for the pleasure and stared thinking... perhaps I'm keeping this one for a little longer... it still drives so beautifully. Better the devil you know sometimes. I've purchased a set of ECU caps, just need to find a local PCB merchant to solder them in. Would try myself as I'm OK with a soldering iron... but I have a feeling OK is not going to be good enough. Also ordered a new 12v car battery as the current one is dead. Once that's all sorted, the rear coil spring is next.

  19. Hi Mark, welcome to the forum. I used to have a Volvo S80 D5 and it was a fine car, but I can understand your desire to move on. To answer your questions the MkIII GS450 is a pretty reliable car compared to the E Class/A6/5 Series competition but there are a few weak areas. The main things to look for are leaking shock absorbers and rust around the Y section in the exhaust. I think battery failures are relatively rare, and providing you have a hybrid health check each year you should be covered. But like you say £800 will fix it and you'll be right as rain afterwards. I've been a 2008 GS450H owner for 18 months and I'm very pleased with it by and large, but there have been a number of niggly issues which surprised me. You can read about these in my post about a year with my car. I'm now 18 months in and in addition to what's mentioned in the post I've since had all the TPMS sensors replaced under warranty. With regard to your questions about spotting adaptive cruise, the other tell-tale is the little extra button on the right hand side of the steering wheel that regulates distance to the car ahead. On the topic of the aux port, I think the usefulness of this is limited. I was lucky enough that mine came with the iPod adaptor, but GROM (and similar) devices are available that connect to the stereo and provide a far richer experience for not much over £100, so I wouldn't let aux or not get in the way. I use a combination of my iPod in the glovebox and a £15 Bluetooth FM transmitter and get on ok. There are plenty of reasons for wanting a facelift but personally I wouldn't include the aux port in them. I didn't really look at pre-facelift GS450s, but I don't think the boot got MUCH bigger with the facelift, but the battery pack may have been packaged differently to free up a few more cubic litres. The boot is small though regardless, so despite the car being fairly large don't assume it's capable of carrying as much stuff as you might expect - think Fiesta sized boot. Don't buy any GS450 (facelift or otherwise) if trips to Ikea feature in your life! The thorny matter of fuel economy is a valid one. Other people on the forum seem to get far higher MPG than I do (annoyingly). On a slow (65-70) motorway run I'd expect mid 30s, and normal driving (like I do) I'd expect late 20s. Over 18.5 thousand miles I've averaged 28 MPG, running on premium fuels with a full Lexus history. In the winter the MPG will suffer and in summer it will improve. Going back to your questions, the GS450H is a good car. Quick, basically pretty reliable, quite subtle, and enjoyably different from the obvious competition. I'd recommend one for sure, but remember you're buying a car that was nearly £50K a decade or so ago, so when things wear out they aren't going to be cheap. Have fun looking and let us know how you get on.

  24. Just an update on this one parts gathering has been slow due to unforseen circumstances at home. Wheels splash guards etc have arrived. Still need a few pipes brackets and plastics. Airbag unit has been sent off for reset due to the pop up hood activation. It will be running with 235/35/19 tyres all round. Gaps are nice with these. Updates to follow when I get back on it. Hopefully soon.

  25. They're good, aren't they? Welcome Nick. I have had mine just over 3 months now and I am still surprised occasionally by how well it drives. Love the interior colour of yours, beat the boring black that mine is. Happy motoring

  26. Glad you agree with my findings. It is built for one purpose: to be very calm and relax from A to B without having to prove anything. The car is exciting and I love the memory seats with steering wheels moving back when stepping out and moving in when fastening seat belt. It feels wonderful. The clock is simple but very elegant, I could stay inside for a long while for sure. I am super excited to be part of this exclusive Brand.

  27. Very nice car - enjoy Totally agree with the car promoting a sedate driving style. When driving the 430 i'm calm and relaxed watching the revs and being careful over potholes etc. When i'm in the BMW I often find myself turning the dial to sport mode and just flooring it lol

  28. Hi Tom There are 3 lines of enquiry you can adopt: 1) Look around the engine bay for a sticker 2) Look in the service history book and contact previous garages who have serviced the car and ask them. 3) If possible contact the previous owner and ask them. I actually bought an LS400 years ago without a cambelt change and was able to verify this info by googling and contacting the owners name. Failing this factor the cost of a cambelt, Waterpump and tensioner change into your buying price and then get it done at a garage of your choice. hope this helps

  30. I posted a while ago as I had a headlight bulb fail - well it became intermittent. Gave up trying to change them, asked my local garage to do it - I provided the bulbs and went with Osram Nightbreaker Lasers. I think they are better, but as one bulb was out its difficult to say

  33. Adam, in case you haven't read this entire thread, make sure you check any work they do to the wheels very carefully. Other than that, it looks pretty tidy, with the added bonus of a better colour interior than mine. I wouldn't worry too much about the battery, but make sure it has a full Lexus history before you make the trip. Again, as you can read on this thread, don't just assume that it has one since apparently it is not a requirement for it to be sold at a main dealer.
