  1. Wow, I didn't expect an answer like that Keith, that is indeed a catastrophic failure. I agree with everything Mark said above - it does sound like the battery or jump leads have been connected the wrong way round or water damage somewhere. Please don't take offence at this, I'm really not being nasty about it, but it's clear from the way you're just buying and changing things randomly, like the aircon module for instance, you haven't got the skills to tackle a job like this - that way lies an empty bank account and a bald head after pulling your hair out in frustration. If you really want to carry on with it yourself then starting with Techstream like Mark suggested is a good idea, but I really would strongly suggest that you hand it over to a properly-qualified auto electrician. Not a mechanic or somewhere like Halfords, but a proper auto electrician.

  2. Charging issue fixed. Turned out to be the positive terminal, it was badly corroded where the cables are bolted to the battery clamp. Cleaned off with a wire brush and refitted. All is well, however I think the battery has suffered. Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk

  3. If you read most of the reports, whilst oil development has come a long way as you say, these engines were designed to run on a more basic product without problems, and I have read you could actually not be doing your engine any favours by using the latest specs. I would stick with what is in the handbook, I use semi synthetic in mine, but the key point is, to change it regularly .

  6. Well folks, my lovely NX will be 5 years old in November and, I am wondering what economically viable options will be available to me at that time. Currently I have a Service Plan in force along with a Lexus Warranty. At the 5 year point it will have enjoyed a Full Lexus Service History. I will definitely be replacing the Warranty when it runs out in January My car has 31K on the clock and so I am wondering what route to take, particularly with regard to the Service Plan. I have heard of, but am not familiar with, a cheaper servicing option and am wondering if any fellow members actually make use of this or, do they still go for the standard servicing plan. Many thanks.

  9. You have to be methodical and logical when doing any diagnostics work, let alone such a proliferation of problems, so lets start at the beginning. 1. What were you working on and/or trying to do when you damaged the loom? 2. Do you have a laptop, miniVCI cable and Techstream? 3. If the answer to No. 2 is no, do you at least have some form of OBD2 code reader? 4. Do you have electrical test gear such as a multimeter and clamp ammeter? If you don't have No.2 (preferably) or No.3, you just aren't going to get anywhere. If you don't have a multimeter at the very least, you just aren't going to get anywhere. Here's a couple of pages that give you an indication of what's involved in diagnosing an immobiliser fault:

  10. Apologies for 12oz to the pound, I should never post so late at night.

  11. If it were me I'd re-examine the loom, just in case the damage was worse than first thought. Just going on your description of what isn't working it sounds like something is shorting out, especially if the battery is going flat (had the same fun with a parasitic drain on an MR2 years back). A good auto-spark should be able to trace this by pulling the fuses one by one until the drain disappears. That might give them a bead on where your fault lies. I'm probably off on the wrong tangent and it's nothing to do with wiring! Keep us posted and good luck with getting it sorted.

  12. Cutting and re-connecting two wires doesn't usually result in this sort of catastrophic failure. The only time I've ever seen a list of errors like that is when the battery has been connected the wrong way round or the car has suffered damage from water ingress. The only other thing that could explain it is if the wires were something like digital data signal wires where simply resoldering them isn't necessarily the way to repair the wire. The only thing I can suggest is to hook the car up to techstream so you get an idea of what modules are reporting faults. It's possible that multiple modules have lost connection to a single module and that's why you're getting so many errors. Have you disconnected the battery for 20 minutes or so to reset the car's systems? The old "turn it off and back on again!" trick might just reset all the modules so they communicate with each other again.

  16. Somebody on the forum mentioned that he got a heavily discounted pair from Lexus Birmingham in June. When I finally got though to them on the 3rd occasion in July and a week apart, having been told they would ring me back but didn't, they said the offer had ended and the rails were at a much higher price, I contacted 'Lexus Direct' (who sometimes put in an appearance on this forum) and they agreed to post a pair to me for the inclusive price of Β£300. and it hopefully stil on their website This is quite a bit cheaper than the normal price. (Lexus Exeter have them on ebay for circa Β£350 pounds for example. If you do get a pair, here are a couple of tips. The instructions are all in symbol form and these suggest you bin certain parts you have to remove but I suggest you retain these. If the next purchaser of your car does not wish to have these rails, you can then easily remove them and reinstate the original bits you removed, as so many people want these rails.you will find a buyer. Another tip is to fit the undersides of the plastic - yes plastic, (cheap skates) end covers before offering up to fix, as trying to spring these in after bolts could stress the plastic. The tops then snap into place.

  18. Added a bit of bling today....... I was given these a while back, however I have a feeling they are for a CT200 as the throttle pedal is too small. The other 3 were quite easy to fit, however I’m on the hunt for a ali throttle pedal from something like an Fsport Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  20. Well, with the greatest of respect Keith, just stabbing in the dark and assuming things is not a good way of fixing problems. Which fuse or module was it that you changed and what circuit(s) does it protect? It may be the immobiliser but it may not. Do you have a spark at the plugs? Do you have fuel to the injectors? Is the gear selector in P or N as it should be to start the engine? Even if it is, it could be a fault with the starter inhibitor switch that prevents the engine from starting if anything other than P or N is selected. When you say "I have a number of electrical faults on my car", what exactly do you mean? Start at the beginning and tell us what you've done and why, and maybe we'll have a better chance of helping you mate.

  21. I don't like the idea of obscuring instrumentation or sticking mounts into vents (which I am sure Lexus did not intend.) My solution was to mount my TomTom as shown in the pics. For Herbs and anybody else who is curious. I made a platform of 3mm thick aluminium with cut out in shape of vent on top of dash. it is attached to 2 bearers of rectangular 40x20mm aluminium box, 2mm thick. There is a 3mm 90 degree angle to which an alternative TomTom mount is bolted. Milliput modelling epoxy was used to get the shape along the bearers with a 3mm thick aluminium face plate that helped establish the extent of the Milliput. This plate was stuck in place with Epoxy 151. I also used Milliput to close off the end of each bearer (although this was not essential) The bearers were each secured with two rows of industrial quality 3M double sided tape, so total contact could be made between them and the top of the dash. Pictures show the platform on it's side prior to installation, and with the Nav in place. I beefed up the TomTom mount with Milliput and locked it in the optimum position for me. I have a matte glass film (obtained from Germany) to add along with a hood I will be modifying. When I eventually trade the car for a mobility scooter the buyer can either keep the platform as it is, use it to secure a phone or it could be removed with fishing line or piano wire like the old glued windscreen rubbers are cut loose. I made a mock up out of wood and ply to start with to ensure there would be sufficient space all round and am pleased with the result. now seen. I have an uninterrupted view through the windscreen (although this may not appear to be so in pic) and have only to make the slightest eye movement to see the screen whilst keeping the road ahead in my peripheral vision. There remains the matter of connectivity to resolve.

  22. Hybrids are indeed exempt from emissions testing (MoT) but any half decent MoT inspector looking under on the ramp will see the replacement tubing, fail.

  25. Longer post in LS400 forum - the IS has replaced it after 16 years of ownership - very early days but lovely car. 2014 Luxury model 28k miles purchased from Lexus Derby who were seamless in providing superb service.

  26. Unless there is something weird about the NX Nav, BT provides all services - it just provides Internet access the same as wifi. Live traffic updates, Street View and other apps via BT worked on my old IS, it works on my current GS and it works on my wife's Prius. Connected services is flakey at best so maybe it was coincidence that is wasn't working when you tried BT? If you have an iPhone, or any other type of smartphone, I cannot understand why you would want to use the slow, poorly navigated implementation of Street View on the Lexus Nav system - so much easier and faster directly on a phone.

  27. I think the find my car stuff is very interesting at the moment, MB are in trouble as they have been tracking there cars and people have said its against GPDR so I guess having the position of every Lexus at all times of the day and night on a server somwhere could be deemed a bit intrusive.

  28. Why set up your phone every time you go out? You set it up once on your iPhone and the car automatically connects to it each time you turn it on.

  30. I did end up purchasing the car linked in the thread - i drove 1000k in the first week of ownership and it performed very well. has some jobs to do but i don't use my car in the week (it's garaged) so I will be attending to these as and when. so far i am enjoying owning the GS - my previous LS400 was meaner in terms of size and noise but the GS is much sleeker.

  32. I've watched this as well and although I only had my GS300 for 6 months I didn't find any issues apart from the creaky dash which I sorted easily enough. To be honest I'd be happy with another one should my lovely LS ever see fit to say goodbye!

  33. Eventually got around to having my wheels refurbished and I'm very pleased with them. Before and after photos attached. Just driven home and took photos immediately but really I should have given them a wash/wipe first. However, you can see the massive improvement. πŸ˜€
