  1. So I have not posted on here for a while (but have used the excellent "Tutorials" page on numerous occasions) thought I would add a few updated pics of "Lexy" to my Album and sing her praises yet AGAIN. She now has 92K on the clock, is 21 years old and still running like a star! have recently upgraded my old original 16" chromes for some 6 spoke 17' off a 2004 LS430. (Thus ensuring they cleared the BIG front calipers.) Also replaced the orange side markers with clear ones and have added V8 badges. I have a pack of new LED Orange/White replacement lamps and ballast resistors to enable me to remove the orange plastic mouldings from within the the front corner markers, which when done will give it a "clear/clean" look I'm after. Everything else is still stock and other than regular fluids and filter replacements, all four O2 sensors and a wiper blade, the last 5 years have been trouble free! LS400's with low miles are now VERY rare over here, in fact some mid 90's models have sold for over $12000. It's a rare thing nowadays to buy a non-classic car that is a daily driver and yet is STILL appreciating in value!!! ๐Ÿ˜

  2. Possibly not the best example as servicing of the aircon system isn't deemed an owner's task and therefore wouldn't be in the owners manual. In fact doing it incorrectly in the UK could mean you are breaking the law. For the competent person, they would know to look in the engine bay where there is an information sticker stating ND11 is required on Lexus hybrid vehicles.

  3. Morning folks hope your all ok. Yes it always generates discussion does motor insurance especially at renewal time. Religiously I have always at renewal time carried out a comparison check on the various websites mentioned on here. Worth remembering that not all underwriters are available on the comparison sites. So always worth allowing a bit of time checking those as well. Reading the posts here interesting that declaring different things have adjusted policy,s. Your details are kept on the MID (motor insurance database) administered i believe by the MIB (motor insurance bureau). it might be worth you having a look what is held about you on the MID. You might not agree you may want to have something corrected. You can make a request to have the info what is held about you. Here is a link to the MIB if i can put it on. Stat safe. Welcome to MIB

  5. Thought this would of interest to all RX owners fitted with 20 inch alloys. Had Yokohama Blue earth winter tyres 235/55/r20 fitted in November..............bought on line at ยฃ107 each via Roundtrip Tyres.........had the tyres fitted by Lexus Derby coinciding with the MOT...........they charged ยฃ5 per tyre fully fitted and balanced. The car rides superbly with these tyres particularly in the wet. Living in the Peak District we have had plenty of snow and icy conditions recently.........the car behaved surefooted and stable albeit on short local covid allowed shopping trips etc. The car rides very well indeed, much better than the normal Bridgestones Summer tyres.

  6. You're not alone. I downloaded and read the owner's manual and Nav manual in the 3 months wait for delivery of my car from Japan. I then joined the owner's club both here and the US version. Soon after I setup an account with Lexus-tech.eu and read/downloaded loads of tech/service docs for my model. Fascinating stuff!!

  7. They would if they researched it, would they not? Seriously though, maybe I'm just a one off but when you get something you've never had before, be it a car, a computer, a hifi system or whatever, are you not excited about it and eager to learn all you can about it? I am and that's what led me to join this owners club in the first place.

  8. My 450h has sat largely undriven on my drive since February. I fire it up once each and let it run for 45 mins during which time it will top and start and stop and start and......all while I am nearby tending the garden or talking with passers by, or reading the Forum. I have on very very few occasions taken it out and about for a short run- no more than 20 miles. It is fine. I have read the Handbook and I understand what it can and cannot do. I have total respect for it.

  9. Morning Chums, yesterday my current wife subjected me to what can only be described as a tirade against my driving skills, or the apparent lack of (in her opinion). She was of course completely wrong but I was wondering about investigating the Advanced Driving course (https://www.iamroadsmart.com/), so if she did complain in future I could reply "I've done the Advanced Driving Course, so nuuuur". Has anyone else here done the course, and if so, what are your thoughts? I should add that I was awarded "this week's Star Baker" status on a driving day at Thruxton in 2018....

  10. Yeah, sorry, bad example, although someone must buy those 'off the shelf' cans of refrigerant from places like Halfords. Personally I'd take it to a proper aircon specialist.

  11. Hi, I have no idea if any Lexus owners have experimented with this, but, on recent Toyota hybrid cars, where 'keyless entry' is featured, that option can be turned off via a dashboard menu or even Techstream. I have an idea that after approximately a week of complete inactivity, some models will actually do something similar to automatically save battery power. From measurements I've seen, the quiescent loading on the battery is reduced from about 50mA to about 30mA when this keyless entry function is disabled. But, in doing this, the keyless 'Start' button function is also disabled, so the ignition key fob has to be held against the 'stop/start' button for the key to be recognised when the button is pressed, and this is not always instant as it usually is - several attempts are often needed. The keyfob door lock 'open/close' buttons work as before with this keyless option set to off. I have no idea what this option is called on Lexus dash menus or Techstream. On a Toyota I think it might be labelled as 'Auto entry cancel SW', or similar, at least it is when viewed through the Techstream configuration menu. Perhaps this information is of some use to eke out your 12v battery charge when your car is not being used?

  14. This is the thing isn't it? Toy/Lex obviously don't consider it to be a problem or they would either warn us of it in the owners manual or take steps to stop it happening, as we found that Hyundai do on the Ioniq earlier in the topic. However, and I'm going to say it again, the lack of information or of a practical solution from the manufacturer does not preclude someone from doing their own research (preferably) before or even after buying the car. I don't recall any mention in the owners manual of having to use ND11 oil instead of PAG oil if the aircon needs to be topped up with refrigerant, but as I mentioned in the list above, if you don't, you could be left thousands of pounds out of pocket. If it happened to you, would you take responsibility for not finding out first or would you go to Lexus and say that it was their fault because they didn't tell you about it? This is why we have notices on bags of peanuts warning us that this bag may contain nuts!

  18. interesting, I don't think the 300h is as much work as the seats don't need removal I will have them side by side when I pick up the new one from the dealers, that will be the first time I see the new one. That said if it isn't the same then I go home with my old one Thanks, I saw this a few days ago and have been running thorough it, I don't see too many issues Well I bit the bullet and pick the new battery up on Saturday morning, im paying more for this battery than I have for many of my cars that ive driven in the past ๐Ÿคฃ. I have a go pro that will be on time lapse, hopefully I can get the whole process on you tube

  20. Canโ€™t help with advice on led bulbs,as you say they may be legality or other issues. The simple alternative is to fit uprated halogen bulbs.Iโ€™ve done this many times in the past, and while you wonโ€™t transform your lights to the brightness of led or hid you will change them from poor to adequate.

  21. Something wrong there Malc. They're a fibre crush washer and my Lexus parts department gave me a handful a year or two ago. Should be changed at every oil change. Never had the sump off the IS, GS or LS but did your indy possibly have the sump off and fitted a new sump gasket?

  22. Absolutely Vlad there may be something on the MID that is erroneous about you. Ultimately when insurers access the MID about you it may affect your costing. The MID is accessed by the Police, DVLA and others.

  23. Chosen the Registration plate for the UX yesterday - I amused myself because Ive convinced myself it says O-zone xx70ZNE I mean itll be coming off to make way for the private number plate anyway so I wasnt too fussed. I need to get more information from the salesman about the Lexus charging point - for the time being Ill just use the 3 pin socket or a supermarket charger as its a second car Looking into ceramic coatings and leather coatings as well now that its nearly on the way, although I probably wont get to do this until atleast easter time I think Ill probably be selling the IS300h privately when the time comes. Its only done 19k miles and had 7 Lexus dealer services so would make a bargain for someone.

  24. If I may suggest, try replacing the power steering fluid. As far as I can see from the parts diagram there is no fluid filter that may have been blocked. Turn the steering wheel fully to each direction to bleed the system. My respect and admiration to your knowledge, contributions and days you have won! Chris.

  26. You should experience the heated seats in the GS F. They are about as useful as a mouse breathing on an iceberg. The ventilated seats aren't a lot better, but on the plus side, they are the most comfortable seats in any car I have driven.

  27. on a lesser note, many years ago I was quite involved with Longplayer, a company that provided insurance coy replacements for stolen etc videos, records, dvds and the like .... long gone with the advent of say, spotify etc NOW we had a big big issue with office waste bins, and yes, it was a big H&S issue at the time believe it or not The rules frequently moved between having metal bins, wicker bins, cardboard bins and I think finally back to metal bins for fire safety issues ..... and quite ridiculous costs in between all the changes Malc

  29. Weighing up options looks like I'm sticking with what I have for a bit. MOT due in Feb so if it passes ok then fine, I'm not aware of any problems it still drives well. if I need to spend on it then probably worth holding on to it to get some value out of what I may have to spend on it. No real rush to do anything but I've had it 3 years now and don't usually keep a car that long.

  31. So seeing as my wheel arch roller has come i decided to give it a go. Tried my best to not crack the paint but i think its pretty much impossible. I heated the paint/metal with a heatgun and gently kept adjusting and rolling until the lip was rolled and arch slightly pulled. Only a couple of slight cracks on the edge, prettt hard to see so i will probably have a go and get this cleaned up and painted. Anyway heres a few pics... Image quality seems to have been completely killed by the forum, i tried ๐Ÿ˜‚. Also got my Fuel pressure sensor installed too but still need to pin this into the AEM, pretty easy install, just removed a screw plug on the regulator and used an adapter to fit the sensor.

  32. Bought lots of high end kit from Peter Huet over the years but of course I do my own installs. He is indeed an enthusiast and a genuine nice guy. Sorry to hear the deal on the LS600 didn't work out. I quite fancy an LS but they are very rare. I would say a slightly higher mileage car that has been looked after might be better than one with less than 80k that hasn't had much done to it. I almost bought an 09 with 70k on it but the bodywork needed a few minor dings sorting out and the dealer wasn't going to move enough on price so I left it. Lexus Guildford had a nice looking 09 for ยฃ19k but that seems to have disappeared. There are one or two later low mileage models around but none of them are keenly priced.

  33. I took ROSPA motorcycle test 2 years ago, I found it a very good experience and gives you more knowledge on road positioning and anticipation, I got Silver. Now, before every bike season I read Roadcraft as a reminder, just so I a safer rider. After I passed mine I was going to buy a few car lessons for my wife (car lessons) but arrival of a 2nd daughter didn't let that happen!

  34. ^^ In about 2013 my employer paid for a group of us to complete a two day course run by two former police drivers. I can honestly say my driving changed forever after that course, which included classroom sessions, sessions where the instructors drove, and sessions where we drove and were assessed. Driving for 30 minutes on public roads while having to โ€˜commentateโ€™ on everything I saw and why I did things was fascinating, but by the third time it became almost second nature. Something as obvious as really looking ahead was actually difficult at first. We all develop bad habits I guess. Based on my experience Iโ€™d fully recommend some type of advanced course for everybody on a ten year cycle.
