6 months on and it’s been a dream to drive again. the link to my YouTube vid on how to replace the battery recent jobs include front crankshaft oil seal. radiator flush invertor fluid change water pump change (200k on its original water pump!!) fan belt change now it’s sat on 205,000 miles, still going well and just about to have an interior upgrade

Quite frankly everything I have read would not put me off buying an IS/300h! If it is just a case of buying a small jump starter for the odd occasion the battery goes flat then as far as I am concerned no worries. Others can buy a Mercedes or BMW and not have to worry about their battery reliability - they just have to worry about everything else on their car! Yes, it is an issue, but not insurmountable.

Aided, presumably, by razor-sharp reflexes? 🙂

Quite - I don't get all the angst about the 12V battery in Lexus. In my BMW the battery died with little warning and I had to get a jump start and fitted a new battery as it was by then quite old. In my wife's Honda she flattened the battery leaving the radio on (without the engine running) whilst waiting to pick up my daughter - I had to go out and jump start the car and then replaced the battery a few months later as it didn't hold charge again properly. In my daughters Fiesta the battery died with no prior warning - just wouldn't start the car after being left for a day in a car park. She got a bump start to get home and I went and replaced the battery for her. Batteries fail, sometimes with little or no prior warning. Lexus are no different in that respect. I have always carried jump leads in my previous cars and now carry the jump starter pack (which is great for a hybrid as they need so little power anyway if the 12V battery dies) - simples!

I agree. When we used to play 10-15 years ago, half of this stuff didnt happen. There are way too many players falling over after a simple barge. I think some contact should be allowed. I have no problem with players barging others out of the way but the "owww he touched me" and falling to the ground is too much. For example the Sterling penalty was attrocious. Its a dive every time. If you run between two players I dont understand what the opposition are expected to do? Move out of the way perhaps and just let the opposing team score?! Utterly ridiculous

I think I've had to jump start my IS300h about 2 or 3 times now due to me not using it and failing to heed the advice from Lexus on running it in Ready for an hour a week. I really should trade it in for something more reliable. Lexus - hang your heads in shame. Call yourselves Paragons of Reliability? I think not.... (tongueincheeksmiley)

When you say everything else looks suspicious what do you mean? A couple of things to consider a) it is a North East registered car sitting up in edinburgh. With the car market the way it is this could simply mean the dealer purchased it from a private seller in the North East or could mean something else. b) Check the dealer out for reviews on the Web, although they have a number of positive reviews they also have a few negative reviews c) The mileage is above average for its age and it is priced at 19K. If you were to look for a similar spec car with similar miles, it's likely you would find an approved used car from a lexus dealer for about 1K more. If you are buying with finance, the additional price from a main dealer is likely to have a minimal overall impact on the total cost as it is likely that better rates of finance are available from a lexus dealer. The additional approved used benefits may also provide a further level of assurance when purchasing from a main dealer. (breakdown cover, approved used warranty etc.) - although the car you are looking at may qualify for lexus relax warranty if it was serviced at a lexus dealer recently, having said that it will not qualify as the last service stamp in the book suggests it was 18month ago so it is due a service. If this was done at a dealer it would cost 500-700 pound, again its just put that price on the car which starts getting close to main dealer prices. The Apr rate advertised from the dealer on a pcp purchase is high at 11. 9 percent. This puts over 5k in interest on the car over a 48 month period. d) The advert states it has a long mot till October 21. That's about 4 month away which is not a long mot. The advert states it is £30 a year road tax, again this is incorrect as it was registered in October 2017 so does not qualify for £30 tax. As a) above they may be absolutely nothing wrong with the car but as with any secondhand car you have to do what feels right for yourself rather than be pushed to decide on any sort of deal that you have concerns over. Finally you would need to typically inspect any car in the usual way and agree on any rectifications that may be needed prior to the point of sale (tyres, brakes, cosmetics etc) , this applies to a purchase from any garage/dealer. What has drawn you to this specific car, is it the spec, the price or something else?

My daly driver, just clocked up 205,000 miles in it and now treating it to an F-sport interior upgrade. normally I move my cars on by this mileage but this one doesn’t look like it’s done half it’s mileage so it’s staying for a while

So after the disaster that the ID3 was, I bought a Nissan Leaf e+ tekna, a car that surprisingly reminds me - and the misus - a lot the Lexus CT. Actually I think that if lexus could put the UX300e battery into the CT body and price it accordingly, would sell like hot bread. Anyway, pretty happy with it, it's no Lexus UX300e in quality but it's almost half the price,has full spec , is surprisingly fast and will easily do 200 motorway miles ( there's been a facelift in February, they may have tuned the battery a bit, not sure) Come on Lexus, do your bit!

Get better my friend. Spain is a blessing in September compared to UK.

Maxxis are great tyres for mountainbike, second only to Schwalbe (for me) but they are not seen as quiet tyres on cars. In an RX450h I suppose it does not matter as the big car probably is quieter than a CT. All in all it seems that all or at least most tyre companies are more interested in developing all season tyres as there are more market for these so the latest all season tyres may not be needed where we live, but may still be best choice.

Maybe the Annual Sail will produce a bargain Phil ?🤣

The main benefit of the service plan is it fixes the prices for a couple of years and you can pay it interest free monthly if you wish. It also gives a discount (I can't remember how much though) on any other parts that are needed outside of the normal service schedule, for example tyres, brake pads, MOT etc.

Please nobody else bid on these so that I can get them cheap 😀

If you become a Gold Member of this club then some dealers will give various discounts. For instance, Lexus Teeside, where I bought my car, will give 20% off servicing parts, 10% off accessories, 25% off labour. Lexus Preston, where I live, give 15% discount on parts and labour. However, now that Lexus Relax has been thrust upon us and gives us a 12-month warranty with every service, I'm not sure if these discounts will still apply.

They've already quoted best price, which works out exactly how much I would pay for individual services so no saving 😃

Anyway yesterday England played better but that was not a penalty at all! It was actually a good dive from Sterling and everybody but English fans would agree.

I purchased a DB Power 400A 12,000mAh Portable Car Jump Starter at the end of 2016. I can at least say it worked when needed to help someone else (started a diesel van with a flat battery).

If you look back through David's posts it seems like he did not have a good experience when going to the dealer for a drive of an IS 300h car and then after purchasing a 2019 IS 300h was let down 5 times in the first 3 weeks due to an issue with the 12V battery. The battery was replaced by Lexus and his comment was "Since the new battery was fitted “so far so good”.". Clearly there was an issue with his 12V battery - could have been due to the time it was at the dealer before being sold or due to the previous owner - we will never know. Certainly in normal operating conditions the 12V battery on a 2019 car should not have been an issue (I am still on my original 12V battery on my 2014 IS 300h with 103k miles on it). I can understand his frustrations having just purchased the car though and maybe not had the best dealer experience. On any car purchased second-hand however this issue could occur, especially after the issues of cars stood not being driven over the pandemic, and certainly doesn't make them "unreliable". Carrying one of the glovebox starter packs is a sensible idea for any car (I carry one just in case and in fact used it to start someone else's car in a car park the other day to get them mobile). Yes, there are a few additional thoughts for a hybrid such as keep it in Ready mode when using the electrics rather than just using the 12V battery (but I follow the same thought for any other ICE car having experienced a flat battery in an ICE in the same circumstances and at least a hybrid only starts the engine now and again) and not to leave the car in N in Ready mode but only in P or D otherwise the traction battery doesn't charge (but that's in the manual). Once we all have to move to BEVs and the new procedures needed for those, goodness knows what will happen if the above is such a big issue...

WHAT!!!!! I would argue totally the opposite, a modern Lexus IS the definition of reliability. my 300h did 180,000 miles before giving any hint of trouble, that’s 12 years worth of motoring in 5 years. you had bad luck, your experience is not typical of Lexus or Toyota hybrids

Well done England!!! The final will be a one off game and there are plenty of occasions in the past when a better team has lost on the night. Our record under Southgate isn’t too far off Italy’s under Mancini. Of course On paper Italy are the better side but it’s a one off game with a lot at stake and it will depend who can play better under the pressure of such a big occasion. This may or may not be the best team on paper. I remain very hopeful that England will do it. Last night was a tense affair but overall the stats showed that England deserved the victory. Denmark are a very good side and we deserve a lot of credit for beating them. Italy will be a difficult game for sure but we definitely have a chance and they have my support, 100%. My thoughts on winning the semi final are of euphoria and enjoyment amd they are not and never will be that we won’t beat Italy. Luckily the players and the manager will not have this defeatist attitude and will give it their all and believe that they can win it. Come on England!!!!

No problem, I'm sure everyone on the forum can also comment on any thoughts. If your looking to definately find a car and see one at a main dealer my advice is to act quickly, secure it with a holding deposit (which is refundable). The used car market is high in demand at the moment and cars are being sold quite quickly.

As a BMW owner and forum member I found that the vast majority of drivers changed to non run flats at the first opportunity. Because only run flats were offered on the X3 with no spare, was the main reason I opted for my RX rather than the X3 BMW.

Naturally, I am hoping England will beat Italy on Sunday but I fear the quickness, movement and accuracy of passing of Italy may lead to disappointment. If it goes to penalties, let's hope Kane, supposedly our best penalty taker, get's the ball in the net at first attempt!

Well we bit the bullet and bought an interior. thats 8 foot tall by the way and about 95% of an entire F-sport interior. it was filthy, but having cleaned up the front seats they literally were plug and play. So I’ve gone from manual half leather to electric operation and heated half leather sport seats, I so with I had done it earlier this was the seats when I took them out of the container. there’s quite a lot of things in the crate I’m not going to transfer over to my SE though

Well we are there the italians will prove sturdy opponents but i think we can do it. I can remember 66 v Portugal sat in front room at my Grandads and the final i was in Felixstowe at the church lads brigade summer camp memories. Its coming home.

Hello Gordon, I remember seeing a comment on this in one the other threads before now. This advice was given by a dealer. Basically Economy in town, Normal on A/B roads, Sport on the motorways. I decided to follow this guidance after reading it and over a number of months my average fuel economy moved from about 48 mpg to 52.5 mpg today and still climbing slowly. I didn't reset the computer at the time of my change to my driving behaviour so its coloured by some old driving behaviour. I have just done a reset now so it will be interesting to see how the average settles for the period going forward.

HUD for me. I could easily live without it, but I do believe it increases safety by not taking your eyes off the road. I quite like blind spot monitors as well - I certainly like them on other people's cars as they are less likely to pull out on me 🙂.

I had a Scorpio estate as a company car. It was like driving my leather sofa down the road although it didn’t handle as well as my sofa. A hateful car and I couldn’t wait to get rid. I always liked the boxy ones before.

Apologies I have been trying to Cut & Paste Data from the London Borough of Hillingdon for Catalytic Converter thefts 4/5/20 to 4/5/21 but it appears to be protected from the sender ( Met Police ) Anyhow these are the models that have been recorded. This is my local area and despite the Police success in targeting these criminals the thefts are increasing. Prius 453, Auris 366 Jazz 310 Civic 133 CRV 124 CT200H 74 RX400 55 Accord 46 Golf 33 Yaris 25 MX5 23 3 Series 23 Polo 20 Beetle 10 Focus 9 Astra 9 A4 8 Not sure how this translates across the country, this is the first data I have seen, I did not appreciate that models outside the Japanese fold were being targeted.

I personally think it looked better than it was simply because Ukraine arent as great a team as many teams who are already out. The group stages were very much in their favour, in fact it appears the whole tournament has been but maybe thats just the cynic in me! If they dont win this year I dont think England ever will!

I agree John. I owned a BMW 3 series M Sport before I got my RC300h several years ago, the rotary wheel (where the LC has the trackpad) was superfast and nice and tactile. Maybe premium cars should go back to physical buttons and touchscreens for everyone else?😁

It’s the simple jobs that give the biggest satisfaction sometimes. Over the last few months the bonnet catch has been a bit iffy, it won’t close without really slamming the bonnet on it and when opening it doesn’t “pop” when the handle is pulled. I put it down in part to the 145,000 miles the Lexus has now covered. Tonight I decided to remove and inspect it, not a difficult job. First remove the black plastic trim that sits along the front panel, there are about 10 self expanding clips that need popping out. Remove the plastic panel and this revealed the bonnet catch mechanism. The catch is held on by 3x10 mm bolts and the plastic dirt shield is held in place with 2 self expanding clips. In adoption there is also the bonnet warning switch wiring loon that is held on the dirt shield as well. With the catch off the car it was clear to see why it was so gummed up....white grease and general road crud had caused the pivots to almost seize. After about half an hour in the parts washer and a good going over with a stiff brush most of the debris was cleared off the latch, the micro switch that signals the warning light was taken off and cleaned up, all the pivots were oiled and freed up and the return springs were cleaned, oiled and reseated. Reassembled back on the car, all cleaned and tested, it all works like it did when I first bought the car now, that’s a win [emoji106] Last weekend I replaced the EGR cooler and egr, I’ll do a write up that shortly when I can finally look at the pictures without A) breaking out in a sweat B) having nightmares about the job It was a total pain in the backside, but a job that needed doing.
