  1. Well, my first post on this particular board and here goes! Today, I'll be moaning about: Cars driving during darkness with the rear lights switched off. There are many around here. I can't believe that people are so stupid that they don't realise this, so my blame theory is that these drivers are just too thick / lazy to check if the side lights are on at least, or they think that 'if the front drl's are on, then the rear tail lights must be on', or like my car when the engine is started, the instrument lights come on, so seeing this they assume that the external lights magically come on at the same time. Now if the latter is the case, then the manufacturer has a responsibility and duty of care to include some sort of warning to alert the driver that the lights are in fact off, during darkness. Maybe these numpties are also completely unaware that their car also has an Auto lights setting. I'd go step further and guess that these are the same drivers who hate cars and hate driving. Rant over. Discuss. (I'm a nice person really and I shouldn't allow such things to wind me up.) 😉

  2. I was behind someone the other night without their lights on and doing around 25 in a 40. I of course gave repeated flashes to try to alert the buffoon that they had no lights on but to no avail. Given the speed and lack of concentration, I did wonder whether Katie Price had borrowed a friend's Fiesta to get home from the pub.

  3. Fantastic racing driver that Max clearly is, he does deliberately force other cars off track. He also absolutely refuses to be overtaken even when he has fairly lost a corner and will just drive round the corner off the track and rejoin after the corner in an unsafe manner and block the driver who had just overtaken him. His sudden weaving at very high speed just as he was about to be overtaken was rightly stopped in his early years although it took a while for the FIA to stamp it out. I will never forget him putting Raikkonen on the grass at 190+ on the run up from Eau Rouge at Spa in his early days as an F1 driver. Had it not been for Raikkonen’s lightning reactions we would not have been celebrating his safe retirement this year. On countless occasions this year Lewis has had to steer away from contact with Max. And at Silverstone when Lewis finally decided not to yield, Max assumed he had anyway and just turned in on him. If we’re dissecting every incident in last Sunday’s race then Max should have had a penalty for his weaving on the straight on that last lap because this illegally prevented Lewis from retaking that position. He was even warned to stop it by his team so they certainly knew it was against the rules. As far as I am concerned, the FIA and Liberty desperately wanted someone other than Lewis and Mercedes to win this year’s championships. The changes forced to the floor area of all cars prior to this season was in my view deliberately done to impact the low rake philosophy cars for this reason. Then, all stewarding decisions this year have been taken with a view to ensuring that Max and not Lewis won the championship. I still find it very hard now to understand and accept how the normal safety car regulations were not followed on Sunday. Again, my view is that it was deliberately done to give Max an opportunity to pass Lewis on the last lap. Of course Max is a brilliant driver but on Sunday he was soundly beaten by Lewis and only won because the race director decided to break the rules to give Max and Red Bull the miracle that Horner had said they needed with 10 laps or whatever it was to go. Except it wasn’t a miracle, it was a deliberate manipulation of the rules to favour Max over Lewis. This for me is very hard for me to accept, even now. Of course, the playstation brigade will love Max’s style of driving because this is what they do every day from the comfort of their own bedrooms.

  5. OK, thanks for the replies. I was thinking if there were recurring problems cropping up the members here would have heard of them. So maybe the lack of replies indicates the lack of any such issues 😃

  6. Paul I agree with your opinion of Max's driving style. I want to see the same hunger but let's keep it within the track boundary, his desperate pushes were at times over the top but like I said it's the stewards that fail the sport by not recognising that enough is enough. He, just like many other drivers will push until they are told no more. What I do disagree with is claiming that FIA has manipulated the championship to crown a different driver. Especially if you want to speculate on "breaking" the rules. They have shown lack of bias and competency during the entire season when penalising one way or another. What is your take on the track limits infringements I mentioned earlier that were committed by Lewis? Did the FIA not show bias towards Lewis in that retrospect by simply ignoring the advantage he gained and only issuing him with a warning whilst punishing Max? Let's not focus on one race alone because nobody has ever won a championship over one weekend. Fans want racing, sponsors want racing, drivers want racing. It's what we had and for once we've seen explosion in interest over F1, because it's been exciting for once. I will tune in to watch Max, Ricciardo or Fernando perform risky moves day in day out and will always prefer that over the snoozefest that Mercedes' domination has given us. It's not the drivers job to keep it civil, the reward is too high for them not to take risks. The onus is on the stewards who are employed to keep it safe and fair. More safe than fair may I add. "Culminating in a preposterous single lap shootout heavily geared in Max’s favour." I doubt that stewards gave it more than two seconds of thought that only one of those drivers have pitted for fresh tyres and which one it was. They had their hands full trying to organise a mess without working out everyone's strategies.

  8. Picked up my RC-F yesterday, after one day of ownership, I could not be happier. After mainly having older Japanese cars this is my first trip into newer territory. I love how smooth it is, power delivery is great and all the gadgets are amazing! Few little bits I want to change, personally I think it sits a little high and it needs slightly more of a V8 burble. Will track the changes here. Also, managed 35mpg on the way home on the motorways! 😄

  9. Lifted bonnet after washing and noticed a small metal pipe left hand side as you look standingfrom front. Covered with a small amount of foam. Clearly been nibbled by what i think must be a mouse. Also where the bonnet hinges are the left one against the bulk head a massive snail. That took some getting out due to location. Just a warning to you all if you havent had a look lately might be well worth it.

  11. Some people are always stuck in the old days. I managed to sit in one and the cabin is a huge upgrade over the old one. Mostly in terms of looks and functionality but the quality of materials as well. Still not for me though as I prefer the RX so waiting for that one but comparing visuals to quality of materials is hypocrisy

  14. That’s a fully valid moan! When I was growing up, Volvo cars had their sidelights illuminated when the engine was on, but also the rear light lamps. For the life of me I don’t understand why DRLs don’t include the rear lamps as well!

I imported an exhaust from the USA for my FK8 through them so the price you see is what you pay rather than getting hit with import tax and the like.

  17. agree, local garage, this is a standard job.. would be surprised if this was more then £200, as it's pretty straightforward. They would either replace a small section with couplers, or the whole length if needed... and it will be the bare copper pipe rather than the coated OEM stuff... but to be honest on an older car, the copper stuff is perfect.. .it should outlive the car.

  18. Thanks Malc. I found them on Amayama, at a reasonable cost. I have also found that most parts ar avaiable from swindon lexus under lexuspartdirect.com, although a bit more expensive.

  19. Hi Michael and welcome to the LOC. If it was all working before the sensor replacement I would be going back to the garage that did that work and firstly ask them why it isn’t now. If they won’t sort it start by checking the fuses beginning with the Radio No.1 fuse (Fuse 16 in the number 2 fuse box) https://fuse-box.info/lexus/lexus-ls430-xf30-2000-2006-fuses-and-relay

  22. I exchanged the first one I had. It was a Lexus approved used car, but despite that it had underside damage which I didn't think was right on a car costing decent money from a main dealer. That was obviously a fault peculiar to that car, but it could be worth checking in case a previous owner thought they had more of an off-roader than the RX really is. The one I got instead just does its job. After nearly three years the only issue I'm having is squeaking brakes, possibly because of lipped discs.

  23. If I were you I'd be looking at a 450, you'll appreciate the double pane glass, keyless entry/start, parking sensors, auto fold mirrors over a 400. No cambelt changes to worry about either. The warranty on the hybrid battery is now 15 years provided you get the checked over once a year at Lexus or 10000 miles whichever is first. Haven't heard of any issues with rhe hybrid battery, however the 12v battery is not cheap. Not had any issues with the tailgate, just the annoying beep when activated and it's not the quickest in the world to open or close. Some models do come with air suspension which isn't cheap to fix, however issues do seen rare. The RX450h was recently rated the most reliable car you can purchase according to carwow and warranty direct. Like all pre owned cars you may have wear and tear issues like suspension bushes, tyres, brakes etc but you can't really go wrong with a Lexus. Just look for full service history and a good overall condition of the car

  25. Don't agree with your assessment of this incident and I am sure that if you did a poll most people would likely disagree too. You need a video showing approach of both cars to the bend and the point after Lewis had had left the track. A static picture does nor adequately convey cause and effect. It was not surprising that in order to risk a coming together, (something more vital to Lewis than Max) Lewis has to turn right more sharply or hope by braking very heavily he would avoid Max and also give track position to Max. The sensible thing therefore was to do what Lewis did. You link to an article about that majors on the driving of Lewis Many years ago but this is not relevant to the disputed current race although it does show Lewis was robust in some earlier races. But this was the disputed race and should be judged according to what happened then, not what had happened in any previous races. Max should not be given more tolerance because he is less experienced, has not previously been champion, is young and good looking and Red Bull deserved something missing out on the constructors prize or for any other spurious reason. However, as so many people have said, the result was over influenced by the Race Director changing his mind and then making a decision that with fewer cars allowed by the Safety Car, thereby enabling Max to make up ground more easily on his newer rubber and pass Lewis.

  27. Personally I prefer having wing mirrors that don’t fold every time I lock my car. Always felt that folding every time the car is locked puts excessive wear and tear on the mirrors motor. The only time I fold is when damage may occur, for example I need them to fold before driving into my garage so manually fold via the switch to improve the existing clearance between the mirrors and the door frame. I can see when the car is locked or unlocked because each door panel on the UX has a chrome door locking pillar clearly visible along the top edge of the panel. Protruding above the panel shows an unlocked car and when submerged flush along the panel’s edge the car is fully deadlocked therefore I don’t need a folded mirror to confirm I have locked the car.

  29. It was probably from the rear pads as they can get stuck on the two pins (each side) if they are not completely slotted straight on them - with the pistons forcing them onto the brake discs then they will have levelled themselves out - would have sounded like something metal tapping the brake disc i would imagine?

  32. Excellent results Ed. It demonstrates the advantage of having a professional Detailer spend time on a new car - the applied finishes get the best possible start in life. So it’s not just the initial improvement in the ‘new car’ finish, which to be fair, many if not most buyers, might consider unnecessary, but also the long term benefits in maintaining that finish. Like all such investments, the quality remains long after the price has been forgotten.

  33. Hey MNMJ, yeah the tyres are availbale no doubt, i guess finding the right person to do it correctly as well seeing the alloy wheel is dimond cut some tyre shops dont want to touch it because of there machines. The tourque is no doubt good.. stick it in sports + and watch the beast move. i think fuel as well can make a difference... i normally use tesco momentum same as Shell V-power... then you can feel the car move. Anyway ive decided to take it to lexus for a full service, they have a offer where u get an additional 12 months warranty for every service... even though no issues with the car... i think the setup can done better so that the rear tyres wear out less.

  34. Compared to general NA 2L petrol, yes hybrid definitely has more torque, but at no point would hybrid torque be higher than RC-F. The only other thing is that I guess RC-F suspension set-up may be slightly more sophisticated, angles little bit better and there would be less issues with uneven wear. Overall, RC isn't particularly bad on tyres, but they are known (same as IS mk2 and mk3) to wear inner edges of tyres little bit more. So it is possible, that one could have 3mm left across the tyre, but inner edge could be worn to threads. But it isn't massive issue overall, when tyre is close to 3mm, it needs to be replaced anyway.

  37. Hi all. Update. After 77 days of hanging on the ramp in Lexus garage, I got my baby back. The engineer working on my car said , that in his entire career in Toyota\Lexus service(22years) he never had such a problem. The gearbox and all associated parts which had contact with transmission oil were replaced for brand new according to Lexus technical department recommendation with hefty bill over 17, 000 British pounds just for the parts. Everything what been uninstalled from my car had been sent back to factory for post mortem examination. It's not likely they will share the knowledge about this problem unless it's necessary to introduce any critical improvement affecting other cars with this gearbox. This would lead to recall action . Anyway, the car was on warranty, it costed me nothing, got new transmission and I enjoy my ride again. Two and a half months waiting time is mostly awaiting for these associatiated parts which are specific to RCF's and not available on demand. One thing I can realise after the replacement is - the box is working quicker, with no such a long lags in reaction for pressing the throttle. I was driving the sc430 for 7 years before, with both 5 and 6 gearboxes and response from them was much better, what was making me bit concerned. Now is better, but on normal mode still bit sluggish. Sport mode is ok. Got another appointment in the garage in 3 weeks time for transmission oil service. Hope that's the end of problems, now got to replace axleback exhaust and the infotainment interface to enjoy my beast even more.

  38. That's the advantage of buying the car from the dealership. It's the extended warranty which costed me a pound, and saved 17 grands at least.
