  1. Lower one of the back seats and climb into the bootspace. Take a torch and small screwdriver. In the centre of the tailgate, just above the lock there is a small panel that you can prise out using the screwdriver. Reach in here with a finger and you can slide the mechanism sideways to release the tailgate. Take a piece of 2x1 timber in too, slide this under the open tailgate otherwise it will close while you clamber out again.

  2. Well I think my partner and I have really caught the Lexus bug! After getting our LC500h in May we've already traded it in against a beautiful Sonic Red V8! I can't knock the hybrid, it is exceptionally good for what it is, no issues at all with performance or economy, but of course it lacks that amazing V8 noise which you can only appreciate in person. Also the Sonic Red colour is just incredible!

  3. Just got my GSF back from its 6 year service, at bang on 50k miles. Plugs changed and some other niggles sorted, including the TPMS that Kwik fit messed (being polite here) up. Cracking customer service from Lexus Newcastle as ever. Picked up, dropped off good communication, and they did exactly what they were asked to do. Ready for another year, with a warranty, and no stress. will be a cracking car for the next owner!!

  4. Welcome to a ‘not very exclusive exLR owners club’ My RRS wasn’t too bad but the Discovery Sport was so bad that we successfully rejected it for a full refund after 16 months. We then purchased an RX, which was superior to the RRS in every way, and after 5 years with the RX changed to an NX 450h

  5. Hi Phil H Welcome to Lexus Owners Club and for help you have come to the right place! If you are buying from a Lexus dealer or an independent garage you would, of course have some comeback depending on the problem. If you don't feel confident to appraise the vehicle you are looking at then perhaps using the AA or an independent inspector would be a wise move. You could ask the seller if they would mind if the nearest Lexus dealership did a healthcheck before you make a decision. Many people believe that a full Lexus service history is a must to ensure its pedigree. I reckon it is certainly desirable but a strong regular history shows its been looked after. You could also consider are its tyres all the same reputable brand, also is there a sticker or entry in the service book which confirms its had cambelt change. Checks like, are all dash warning lights working and do they all go out when it is started up. Check the roof operation to affirm the mechanism and all the motors are working correctly. Look for signs of water ingress into the passenger cabin or boot. Does the sat nav and head unit all work properly. Corrosion can also be an issue depending how it has been used and looked after Despite all the above, they are a fantastic car and I have enjoyed every minute I have owned one! Kind regards, Anthony

  6. The solenoid is highlighted, the button is to the right and of course being Lexus there is also a shift lock solenoid computer at the rear of it. Normally a combination of dust, crud and carpet fluff causes issues, access is tight but a paint brush and vacuum would be the starting point for a clean out after removing the wood trim. ( use a wallpaper scraper with a layer of electrical insulation tape to prise it up at the rear sides).

  7. Totally agree. It’s isn’t that many years ago that, after an election, the majority of people would get behind the winning candidate (or decision) or at the very least wish them well as success is good for everybody. Things have changed, and not for the better. Now, the ‘losing’ side (in an election or almost any subject or question) seem to actively want the ‘winner’ to fail in order to prove they were right all along. The ‘winners’ can never accept things aren’t as brilliant as they hoped, and they become similarly entrenched. Disagree and debate by all means, but this deliberate antagonism and hate has to stop. It won’t of course, as the internet age has made it almost the default position. Sigh.

  9. Driving home along the M4 early evening, little traffic about so engaged the (radar) cruise control relaxed in the comfort of not having to keep checking my speed (the RX is so quiet, so easy to speed!). When approaching slow heavy goods vehicles, check mirrors and indicate to overtake (before the radar slows us down) move past no hassle. Come up to a slower private cars, do the same but 9 times out of 10 the slower car starts to accelerate as I move to pass (almost as if my 'bow wave' is pushing it forward) so I have to accelerate slightly to pass. Once passed I indicate to return to my lane, lift off and drop back to the set speed and the passed car slowly recedes in the mirrors. Now why do drivers do this? Is it they are awoken from their distraction as they see me approach and think (subconsciously?) they should 'push on'? Lorry drivers never do this. Occasionally the passed car will accelerate pass me only to drop back again and need to be passed again, irritating...

  14. Recommend the Denso hybrids, eurocarparts or carparts4less used to sell them and you'd get a good deal when a discount offer was on (about 90percent of the year) It looks like they may not be supplying them any more? Not sure why not as they have done them for years. Part references from memory are DU-060R (600mm for drivers side) and DU-045R (450mm for passenger side) Do check though.

  23. Hello Chris, thanks for your post. How long have you owned your UX300e…? I was asking the question about B mode because I liked the one pedal driving in some of my electric cars… Colin has answered my question… Thanks Colin. The UX300e with the Takumi Pack, will be my next car. I am endeavouring to buy the one at Exeter… Of all the cars that I have owned the Lexus’s were no doubt the best for many reasons… I recently bought an Evoque P300e. I bought it thinking with the limited driving I do. It could have been driven mostly in Electric mode… I couldn’t get the vehicle to drive either in EV or Hybrid mode… I joined the Evoque P300e Facebook Group and many others were having the same problem… So I got them to buy it back because it wasn’t fit for its purpose… I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER JLR VEHICLE AGAIN…! They sell every vehicle that comes off their production lines… But don’t give a toss about the problems that many of the owners have. I had two LS400’s more than twenty years ago, and they were the most comfortable cars that I have ever driven… I recently had a couple of LC500’s, and they were also great cars to own… I have a Zappi home charger… I will post on the Forum when I have bought a UX300e with a Takumi Pack… I also like HUD and 360 degree cameras in cars, and adaptive cruise control… I have an RZ on order... THAT WILL NO DOUBT BE ANOTHER GREAT LEXUS...

  26. The ACC is a very useful thing to have in motorway driving, no question about it. And insofar as its reaction time might be superior to yours, its value increases in proportion to your speed. The only thing I dislike about it is purely subjective and relates to my personal nature as a worrier, in this case about the reliability of technology and my ever increasing reliance on it. Specifically, at high speed, as the obstacle ahead comes closer and the ACC (which I generally set to the closest distance mark unless the traffic thickens) starts slowing the car, I am often unable to suppress the fleeting thought of what would happen in the event of a system malfunction. And the answer is that however remote the possibility thereof might be, I am nevertheless putting myself at risk of imminently kissing my **s goodbye.

  27. I am 99% certain it doesn’t. No SD card, no red button to press to save files and the lens is no good to record when something is very close to the rear of the car and fills the screen.

  30. As an aside, I routinely set the cruise on the IS250 — a crude control by today's standards. When I borrowed a UX with ACC, it was apparent how much greater the programmed stand-off distance from the vehicle in front was than my own habitual visual assessment — the car would back off long before I would do. Driver can vary that distance using the ACC settings, but it was an interesting lesson in how one's own habits may fall short of best practice.

  33. I have a fairly eccentric Swiss friend who mixes E5 and E10 50/50 when he fills up his Morgan. When I enquired why he does this, his not unreasonable reply was that he gets a nice feeling from the thought that he is the only driver in the country using E7.5.

  34. That is likely to happen, because the Democrats are in the same position as the Republicans, they have no credible candidate to run against Trump. Biden was the only hope they had, they used it, and it failed. The Republicans, and the country, deserve a replacement who can make real changes and improvements, and not someone who will spend the next four years acting out his perceived grievances and resentments. Totally agree, all Americans deserve better. The world deserves better. That all said, currently Trump has the base, the support, and is likely to prove to be the winner. Time will tell, lets see how the picture looks after tomorrow. Wishing things looked different, will not change anything. Politics in the US is in terrible mess, that said, not much better in this Country. Perhaps the problem is the politicians we currently have.

  38. I think that is the only setting that would be related to this, but I think this stops it switching between a white or black background rather than the screen actually dimming. All I can suggest is to alter the brightness level when it is in dim mode - maybe it will remember the two different brightness levels. The other approach would be the change the auto sensitivity of the headlights so they don't come on so easily if you just pass under a short bridge.

  41. The eCVT does require a different style of driving to a conventional automatic. I’m now on my third Lexus with eCVT (two NX and my current RX) and ‘wafting’ describes it well. You need to be much more progressive with the right foot - initially I was trying to ‘kick down’ and all that happens is the revs rise. With awareness of how it works, and driving to get the best out of it, I can safely say I’d be loathed to go back to either; - a traditional torque converter automatic with four or five gears where you need to kick down (with associated jerkiness and noise), or; - one of those hateful DSG gearboxes with the relentless ‘hunting’ for the right gear, delays and power loss when slowing down and then needing to speed up (as when approaching a roundabout)…and I certainly don’t miss the frequent repairs and inconvenience when the stupid thing went wrong!

  44. Here are a few updates pics of the build coming along which include new suspension, brake rotors, complete front end bushings and suspension components to name but a few. Motor was in bad shape so I changed out everything that looked suspect. There are before and after shots to compare notes. Trans is an A341E so that got a rebuild too, not by me. Includes newer interior going back in with refreshed dash cluster and HVAC for centre console. The last 3 pics is the drive-train back in the car. The biggest headache has been the engine wiring loom. That took near 25 new connectors. Did them all myself. More to come.

  45. Not sure Malc if there are a lot of them around on the LOC, really interested in knowing this, Anyone? And if there are how many of them will dive into a high quality read about prostate issues? Statistics statistics. Anyway an incredibly interesting thread and i have learned more about my enlarged prostate than in talks with my GP. Again it shows the versatility and deep level of knowledge of the LOC and its members.

  46. Hi Herbs, I am sorry that PCa was responsible for the loss of your BIL. When this happens it certainly brings home what could happen to us males. Home PSA kits serve a purpose but ideally NHS test at local surgery best as they generally use same lab. Having said that, PSA can vary for a number of reasons and you shouldn't have s*x, ride a bicycle or do anything really energetic for 24 hours prior to taking the sample or avoid if you have a UTI. 47 cores sounds too many for the TRUS which I can tell you stings like being flicked by a rubber band when each sample is taken. He probably had a Transperineal template which is better with less risk of infection, under a spinal block (Epidural) instead of GA. With fewer cores and fusion it can now be by deep sedation which I found OK if embarrassing! As regards spread, sometimes the cancer cells are in concentrations so small that they can sometimes cannot be seen as they set up home in bone or tissue. They can also travel through the lymphatic system. Occasionally, they can form a tumour even as far as the Brain. This is then Prostate Cancer of the Brain. There is a brilliant talk by Dr Eugene Kwon of Mayo who covers this on his talk about Oligo Metastases . It still holds up well today although the C11 Pet scan he favors would probably be bettered by a later scan today such as the 68 Gallium PSMA. Anyway, here is a link if anyone is interested. Thank you for your reply. I was aware of the comparatively recent research on helping to establish men more likely to have PCa and of course the need for a better test to replace initial PSA, the drawbacks of which you refer to. I am surprised that more progress has not been made in this area (although likely more challenging). By comparison, new and refined ways of treating have made great advances. So, I am somewhat surprised that so much credence is now being placed on the simple DRE, something I had in 2007 both by my GP and at urology but it raised no suspicion. Thank goodness I also had a PSA test of 17.6 that rang bells and with a T3A staging was glad my GP added PSA test when checked for something else, although I had no symptoms of PCa. With your long involvement in the area, you may remember 'The Great PSA Debate' that took place on 10th November 2009 with the likes of Sir Roger Kirby and Dr Chris Parker of the Royal Marsden, (the latter one of my consultants),. on opposing sides with others for a motion at a great gathering of assembled, clinicians, and interested bodies and lay people. The main motion was that every man at risk of PCa (meaning men over 50, 40 with additional risk), should be encouraged to monitor his PSA on an annual basis. The motion was passed by a large majority but never accepted into practise. Actually, having been diagnosed, my interest like most others on the Prostate Cancer UK and an American forum I am member of, is more concerned with post initial diagnosis and treatments. To this end, I did very extensive research meeting some highly regarded Consultants in the UK and Germany. This also involved reading medical papers, even from Japan, watching lectures and looking for trials in UK and Abroad. I will not go too deeply into this as it may be found to be boring. Suffice to say, knowing how badly men suffer from PCa, I wanted to make men aware of the disease and a chance of early treatment if they accept the risks.

  47. See explanation above Barry. You'll notice I talked about the zones, and specifically mentioned the symptoms of cancer arising in those zones not detected by a DRE. The urethral symptoms will give warning. Your link says the same thing but with less of medical explanation. Also, those cases of GP vs urologist, again see above when I said with proper training. I've had the misfortune of dealing with GPs who were as thick as a plank. A urologist would have proper training, one would hope. Just an FYI there is no such thing as a 100% accurate test. You take the best combination of sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values that you can get. For example, a PSA test was thought to be good enough until it turned out to be not sensitive enough (missing too many cases, i.e. false negatives), not specific enough (ejaculating, riding a bicycle, having a DRE or an infection are all things amongst a host of other non-cancer related things that can elevate your PSA, so massive over-diagnosis i.e. false positives), but good enough to follow a case post diagnosis/treatment after you have established a personalized baseline. You see a screening test needs to be sensitive enough to catch most cases (notice I said most, not all), without over-diagnosing cases that don't need to be treated or non-cancer cases. The PSA failed on both accounts. Currently, the DRE is the only thing that even comes close to fitting that description until studies on the newer diagnostic modalities provide statistical evidence. What you're quoting in that link sadly is medical legalese. They are covering their collective behinds as well as informing you, that a negative test does not mean you are cancer free, and if you read the whole thing, a positive test means we need to investigate further. It's the same warning on every single test. So if you do end up having cancer, "but the test was negative doc" "yeah, but we told you...". See where I'm going with this? This is my bread and butter specialty. I'm an MD/PhD in oncological sciences, researching and teaching this stuff for a couple of decades plus. If you're wondering my subspeciality is actually colon cancer, it's what I researched/wrote my thesis and published quite a bit on. Feel free to ask questions.

  50. I have found a Cusco Strut Tower Brace model number 188 540 A for about £200 delivered which although not cheap at least is available and not £500 for a solid Toms version. My question is has anyone got one of these and are they worth having? If it only reduced scuttle shake with the roof down I'd consider it worthwhile. Or should I hold out for finding a solid unhinged bar?
