I think its worth seeing the vehicle and seeing how it drives. If the price is good i.e. £3-4k less than an equivalent car with Full lexus service history at a Lexus dealer it might be worth a punt. You won't get any serious long term damage with an oil change at 16k miles and also over 2 years if its only travelled 8k in that time. For piece of mind you could get a Lexus service which would then give it 1 years Relax warranty

No matter how much I abuse it the RX just keeps going and going and with decent tyres it's a proper 4x4. I'm not particularly attached to the SC but I do understand how that can happen. It's been great fun but it's served its time. I did try to sell it a couple of times in the past but no one was brave enough to take it on and so the modification has continued. It almost had a new owner (a fellow enthusiast) a couple of years ago but that didn't work out either. The only car that I really regret selling was a very nice modified high spec TT Soarer for a bargain price to a young guy from Hamburg who managed to write it off about 30 miles from getting it home.

Finally got this done today. Cost me £130. No real difference could be felt but at times I did feel it was peppier in eco mode not sure if its just a placebo. But at least i have peace of mind now that I don't have to worry about the oil going bad at least for as long as I plan to keep it.

I think it is OK but I don’t think it flows very well. It does look like it’s just been stuck on the glass rather than styled with the rest of the car. My personal view is that roof spoilers look better on hatchbacks and estate cars as opposed to a boot spoiler on a car with a boot which can be an appealing addition providing you don’t go silly. However if you like it go for it it’s your car and we are all different in what we like and don’t like. It might look great in the flesh especially if the car had a boot spoiler as well to balance it out looks wise.

Last week I sold my is 300H for a little more than I paid for it 18 months ago. It was a good, comfortable, reliable car but - prior to buying it - I had always had convertibles & wanted to go back to that means of transport. After searching for some months I eventually found a suitable low mileage example 'oop North,' some 250 miles away. Got the train up & stayed in the local Wetherspoons overnight before driving back to Devon the next day. Had a lovely drive back - pretty well motorway all the way (M1, M42, M5) & very quiet, being early Saturday morning. The only problem I had was that the TPMS warning light came on so stopped at the first service station & checked all tyre pressures - all correct. After checking the handbook, it would appear that the TPMS system is at fault (faulty sensor?) so it's going into the garage this week for sorting under warranty. My car is 2010 registered with 30k on the clock. Photo attached. Looking forward to Spring/Summer!

Went to Westfield London mall (in Shepherd’s Bush) last weekend and got to sit into the new RX500h and RX450h Premium Plus. None of them had panoramic roof which was a bit disappointing (or maybe it didn’t notice). What wasn’t disappointing was the quality of the interior, I was literally blown away, such a big step up compared with my 2016 Luxury but also compared with the 2022 Takumi I got to test drive a couple of weeks ago. Exterior wise I wasn t so sure when I first saw it on YouTube but seeing it in flesh I thought it was a masterpiece. After visiting a few dealerships lately and checking different SUV models from Porche, Range Rover and BMW I honestly believe the new RX is a bargain. (Porche has the best interior materials from all though) Curios if anyone else got to sit in the new RX what was your first impression. Prices : RX500h F Sport - £74.950 (£79.950 with Takumi pack) RX450h+ starts at £64.950 and goes up to £79.450 for the Takumi model) RX350h starts at £59.950 and up to £74.450 for Takumi PS : Sorry for the bad photos, it was very busy and I was too excited about the car to bother taking better photos.

No idea to be honest but what I can say is that, not using a car enough can create greater problems than you find with high-milers. An average of around 2,500 miles/year is not doing the car any favours at all, so get out there and enjoy driving it

I agree Herbie but I believe Flashback32 only joined yesterday so maybe they did not have an account when they first clicked on the link hence the issue which they joined to raise.. But only they can confirm it… either way it works once your logged in and that’s all that matters really I guess, I assume admin don’t want to give ‘butterfly’ access to such documents without people creating an account.

Hi, I'm a little late to this party - but a very interesting thread. I've had my battery replaced at a local garage, and since then, the boot cannot be opened, manually or automatically. Its gone back to the garage but they are struggling to find any reason for it - found no obvious electric faults. Interested to read about this happening to some people in the cold/damp. In the three weeks or so before we had the battery changed, the heater broke (coolant leak - now fixed) and I noticed a lot of condensation forming on the inside of the car. I'm wondering if this has led to the problem. It seems that for a few people, this issue rectified itself when the weather improved. Herbie, if you still have the information that pertains to this issue - I'd be grateful to have a look. I might get my car back this weekend and warm it up for a good while and see if that does anything. Thanks.

Things change we no longer travel to Europe by car. at the moment I am doing 100 miles a week down to my partners and back, she is in Bahrain for 5 weeks so the cars not moving very far at all.looking on the drive I am seeing a £40k plus car going no we're . Well after 7 short urban journeys with a small amount of ICE kicking in at the start due to frozen windscreen I managed to get 28.5 miles actual distance before it reached HV mode and after starting with predicted 40 miles. Having thought 30 was closer given the 2.1 m/kWh displayed and the amount put in by my charging point I still can work out how the estimate in the car is being arrived at. car is almost 12 months old with 7200 miles and I mainly drive in ECO mode around the city so whilst not the best conditions it is still (currently) cheaper than using ICE for my kind of journey roll on the better weather when I can get back to the 3.2m/kWh that I enjoyed over the summer

The look of the UI has changed slightly. In a nutshell, the display is now split into 2 "tiles" - a larger one for your navigation app (Google Maps; Waze; etc.) and a slightly smaller one for your music player (Spotify; YouTube Music; etc.). The music player tile now displays the album art more prominently (albeit with some "Material You" colouring embedded on top which I'd rather not have). On the right of the tiles you will find shortcuts to your most frequently used apps. You can also run Google Maps fullscreen. It's also easier to read and respond to WhatsApp messages; etc. Additionally, if you go into your Android Auto settings on your phone and see an option to enable "Taskbar widgets" then you have it. If you google "Coolwalk" you'll see loads of images of it and how to use it. Hope this helps.

My RX does the same this winter. Funnily enough the side windows don't mist up but the rear does and there is no sign of water in the car. I have a Pingi dehumidifier on the dash and this is not showing any wetness. I've come to the conclusion it must be something to do with the extreme angle of the screen which is radiating to the sky and becoming "colder" as a result. The screen is also hard to clean effectively because of its angle and I think that road pollution gets blown on to the glass by the a/c, forming a greasy film which the moisture clings to. I do leave the a/c on all year and let the car decide whether to use outside air or recirc.

Just a thought, I would reserve your position ( if you paid by card ) with your card provider by putting them on notice regarding chargeback particularly by Debit Card as this has a limited time for chargeback, Credit Card has much longer but still good to report the issue to them The card provider will ask for full details of the transaction & the issues you have described, this way you will stop the clock ticking from the day you notify the card provider. This can be done at the same time as your dealings with the Dealer & this will not compromise your actions with either the card provider or the dealer. Hope this helps.

Well finnally got them and installed.

Thanks for all the help, I dropped the car at a specialist yesterday and they got the door open. It was in the half lock position something that Honda used to have a problem with. They had not done a Lexus before but were willing to try. The car is now going for some mot related repairs. the car belongs to my father in law who had a almost life ending stroke in 2021 and he wants to drive his car again hence my needs for the help from the club. I have one further question the dash only partially lights the dials? The needles are bright but not the background? It’s been a long time since I owned a ls400 so any help would be greatly welcomed

I would hang on to your SC it is really unique and special plus you have put so much time and effort into it as well as money. You never know if you do sell it you might wish at some point you hadn’t. I am getting on a bit now and in 53 years I have owned nearly 30 cars but my SC is the one I feel most attached to. The RX is a lovely car and I really like it but it is not quick nor particularly economical. I recently changed the tyres on the RX to Michelin Sport EV tyres and they give a lot harder ride so I now wish I had gone for the non EV ones but having spent £800 on them I am stuck with them.

Agree. Ridiculous charge for updates. I use Waze on my iPhone, no problems and cost nothing. I too use RAC for breakdown cover and as you say it covers me, my wife and as passengers in any other car. Haven't got a mistress though 🙂

It will reward you on the bends stick with the F Sport suspension take it for a spirited drive on a twisty road & you will soon appreciate it. Ensure tyre pressures are set correctly if i'm not mistaken 36psi all around. They are not run flats so should be smooth ride. Keep in mind this time of year local Councils generally wait until the winter passes then send the roadwork repairs out so the roads are more pot holed than usual is why you could well be experiencing it more so than normal. Not that I recommend swerving but I do have habit of avoiding pot holes where possible ever since I broke a Coil spring in another car many moons ago + keeps your wheel alignment in check.

I agree entirely, would love an LC500, I regard it as the new Soarer but couldn't justify £60k or indeed near £40k for a GSF. The GS460 is my poor man's GSF for now. It's ultra rare, practical, quick and understated. The RX is just a luxury tool. Testers wrongly compare it to a Range Rover conveniently forgetting the LX570 and Landcruiser. With some M+S winter tyres on it, there's not much the RX wont do - tyres are the only thing I've modified on that one.🤣 I should really sell the SC as it was finished a while ago but I might just try another couple of mods before Spring arrives.

Rather than buy another SC part of me wants to swap the RX for a GSF but the price they sell for is above what I want to spend. They may be rare but around £40,000 for a 7 year old car I think is overpriced compared to other Marques. If it was £30,000 I would be tempted. They also seem to hang around for bit before they sell which may mean it is not on many peoples wish list. I bought a four year old BMW X5 M50d from a BMW dealer that was £75.000 new for £29.000 with 60,000ml on the clock. When I sold it to buy the RX it was 9 years old and I struggled to get £17,000 at 84,000ml. The first LC500's which I love also go for around £50,000 now but again there doesn't seem much of a market for them.

the numerous Dust Covers . just had one front one done on my Ls400 ............. £40 cash all-up . and maybe last another 27 years 243k miles ...... i wish eh ! A buddy had a 1999 V reg V8 Jag . beautiful car which he swapped for a brand new diesel Range Rover thingy . his son kept the Jag as he couldn't bear to see it just " go " It's still going well .... this car suffered stupidly from frequent battery failures and my buddy was just fed-up with all that happening at inauspicious moments ............ of course His son, like his dad, has plenty of spondoolies to keep a luxury motor or two on the road ... an old V8 Jag is NOT for the faint hearted however My cousin had an " ordinary " X reg Jag saloon that he bought brand new as his retirement pressie to himself BUT a couple of years ago it had to go . a rust-heap developing . he now runs an Audi ............. wouldn't listen to me to buy a Lexus Malc

For private use over the better part of two decades I have never had anything other than various generations of a MacBook, an iPhone and an iPod (the latter now commercially defunct but still fine for the car). I once also had an iWatch but was never comfortable with it, not least because it made me feel nerdy. While realizing full well that I am locked into an Apple ecosystem from which there is no easy escape, I don’t resent my captivity for the simple reason that I have always found each and all of the devices easy to use, totally reliable, and aesthetically pleasing. Maybe there are competitors with equally good and functional products, but I have never felt any urge to go out and find them.

Thanks to all who responded. It was, as Ken said, the child lock switch on the door edge. Why the car would have been delivered with one rear door child locked and one not is a valid question, but I still should have thought of that myself. Thanks, Ken, for saving me a potentially embarassing visit to the dealer 😀

Ah yes of course, the exhaust issues. Toby is a really good guy and knows his stuff. We met at the Sleaford meet. As you say, your SC430 is a lovely example as it is and too good to modify beyond cosmetics or enhancements that don't detract overall or can be easily reversed. So how long before you buy a second SC to go wild with?🙂

Hi Glyn, I think all kits need a bit of fettling, even the really expensive, well known brands from Japan. It's fun to do but you would probably need some dry space/rent a garage/lock up. I modified the kit, filled in the marker lights, had a challenge with rear lights and headlamp washers but it wasn't too bad. When I bought the SC as a project I knew it was going to be an expensive journey, I just didn't realise how long I was going to keep it or how far I was prepared to go with it. I doubt any other SC in the UK could match it for 'entertainment' but if I reveal that it has cost around £22k in mods so far then I think that confirms Perry's take on it.🤣 For examples of owners with class, subtle mods, see Lex legends Texsexlex in the US and WIL44 in the UK.

The kit from Poland needs extra work to fit around the headlights of an early model SC430. Actual costs for the kit, properly fitted and painted, budget around £3500. Or perhaps go for the SLC when they complete production......

I have considered IS250C, SC430 and SL500, but they all are kind of ~£10k nowadays. Not much to shed... I decided against them because the price was not right for me - kind of crazy market right now. Overall, I sold RC for £19k ... and £10k was just not my definition of "cheaper" so ended-up not buying any of them.

@Ullager i see. Sc430 is a thirsty beast indeed. I think the pre 2006 model is in the same tax cost as the the sc430. still two minds. Seem to struggle to find one with good service history and reasonably priced. can @Linas.Pshed some light since you considered is250c too as opposed to sc430 😬 barry

Hi John great choice ,I have had mine for 7 years and I am not going to sell it any time soon . You have done well getting such a low mileage car that will run for many years and I like the light upholstery ,mine is back inside and a bit dark with the hood up . I have run convertibles for years as I did ride motorcycles as a preference.§ These cars are really cruisers and relish long runs ,I will be interested in how you get on with the TPMS as this is one thing I'm sure I will encounter soon and I don't do Lexus dealers Enjoy Dave

Now I know how it works I'm quite happy to leave it like it is, I have techstream now so will have a look at the customisations and see what can be changed to my liking.

Best to get the customisation changed so either shifting into P will unlock all doors, or opening the drivers door will unlock all doors. There is also a customisation to allow the hatch to be opened when the doors are locked.

So you took it for a drive, during which the doors auto-locked. When you got home, did you just use the driver's door handle to unlock and open your door, or did you use the unlock button? If all doors are locked on my 450h and I just use my door handle to get out, only the driver's door unlocks, everything else remains locked. Only when I use the unlock button do all other doors and tailgate unlock - this isn't a fault, it's the way it works.
