  6. Don’t understand the delay with locking wheel nuts. Plenty in eBay or in stock at Lexus Parts Direct https://lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/product/lexus-chrome-wheel-lock-nut-set/ A proactive dealer could source some and fit themselves Enjoy the car, great colour choice

  9. Folks i have some exciting news..... there is official roof rack available from Lexus for the IS: https://lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/product/lexus-is-roof-rack-2013-onwards/ Part #: PZ41B-C1610-GA I called Lexus Edinburgh initially to confirm and i was told they sold one back in march for a customer. when you open front and rear door you will see along the frame there is 2 hole which are used by the pins for the roof rack. He also said it has thick rubber contacts for both the door frame and the roof and thus should never damage the paint. I should also point out despite all the noise around this i don't actually have bikes yet 😂 At least now i know i dont have to get rid of the car...Yet.... 🙂

  11. In case anyone is interested... I replaced the other 3 struts with the new 'cheap' Chinese manufactured options... oh my goodness... night and day! Now, it's always possible they may die in 2 weeks, but I wil try to keep this post updated from time to time to a 'real world' road test / experience 🙂 Hopefully it'll help someone else. The other thing was it was pretty quick to swap them in and out, so if you're handy with DIY car mechanics... it's a job you can do yourself. My only concern was dealing with the air tubes/connection. I didn't want to balls that up. My mechanic knows what he's doing and did a great job keeping all the original connections in tact so they fitted back snugly to the new ones. I've heard talk that it costs minimum (approx) £1,000 to convert air struts back to springs (I doubt that after my own investigations, particularly if you factor in labour costs), but this cost me about £1,450 (incl. labour) to all in to keep it air strutted 🙂

  12. The front drivers seat on my 2006 IS250 which i've now owned since 2007 is quite worn and i've been considering swapping out for another second hand one. But given the age of the 2IS, the condition of all the second hand ones are far worse than mine (rather keep mine). Got me thinking about retrofitting RCF/GSF front seats as I really like the look of them. But they are extremely rare to find second-hand. And once or twice I came across them they were selling for 3k plus just for front seats. So that was out of the question. I then considered, that a 3IS set of second-hand front seats will probably be in better condition than some of the 2IS ones for sale because of the 3IS being younger car. But I wasn't willing to spend much for second hand seats that didn't make much difference (I would rather get mine re-done). Then, I came across the following pictured RCF breaking and I thought to myself, let me try asking about front seats..... I was quite sure either the'll have blown the airbags or if they are available they would want a fortune for the seats. I was really shocked when I was sent the following photo of the seat in the car and the reply just said £500 (nothing else, just a picture and £500) I thought to myself, is that for 1 or for both. It was actually for both and was collection price. But as I asked if they could do anything better on the price, i was offered free express pallet delivery. So it was an absolute no-brainer for me. I instantly purchased it. Not knowing if I am going to be able to retrofit it or not, I thought it's worth the gamble because even if I didn't want the seats, I could sell them off for much more than I paid. And if I manage to make them work on the 2IS platform then technically it will become a plug & play seat for the 2IS and ISF platform which I could easily sell on later for a profit. So here is the seats delivered: Now, onto the retrofitting... The RCF/GSF seats have the same cooling fan system as the 3IS and 2IS. Except there is ducted air conditioned air that goes to the fan under the seat which then makes the fan blow air-conditioned air through the seat. I've addressed this with the following 3D printed simple solution: Next... Does the rails on the seats fit the 2IS? Answer is Yes. They are the same as the 3IS and 2IS and all line up and therefore no need to make any adjustments to the rails. The main 17-pin connector on the seat itself (Part number 90980-12373) is identical and exactly the same as the 3IS and 2IS and I suspect Lexus and Toyota use this same connector across most of the seats and models. The only thing is that the wiring and pins are different on the connector. After spending hours and hours studying the schematics of both platforms and comparing and tracing wires and testing them. I finally drew up a plan to re-pin the main connector and I had accounted for every pin from the original car. With the exception of the memory seat pin (which uses a single 1pin for MPX1 communication). I'll cover the memory seats later. Here's a picture below of the depinning: The airbag connector is different but this I solved easily by transferring the loom over. As pictured below: The seatbelt buckle is different and the 2IS seatbelt does not buckle into it. So, I transferred the buckle over from the 2IS to the RCF seat. The buckle on the RCF seat sticks up quite a bit as it's quite slim and low on the bottom corners. The RCF buckle has a nice sleeve for the buckle so it doesn't look bad when it sticks out. When I installed the 2IS buckle, I noticed the metal plate was visible and looked ugly. So I decided to transfer the buckle sleeve over too. The buckle work pictured below: I have successfully installed the drivers seat. It's working very well. I have yet to do the passenger seat and will be doing this over the next few days as the wiring is slightly different on that side. I can confirm the following all work: Heated & Cooled working Buckle and seatbelt system working Airbag system working Power seat working The only thing I have yet to finish is the memory profiles for the seat. Unfortunately the RCF/GSF seats use a new type of CAN body communication with dual wire which communicates the memory button presses with two wires from the door card. Whereas, the 2IS uses a single 1 wire MPX communication. There is two ways to solve the memory seat issue. Easiest is to just transfer the position control ecu switch on the seat itself from the 2IS seat over to the RCF seat. or the other option is to create a virtual signal converter. I haven't decided which method I will use for that yet. But as memory seats isn't something I use at all, I decided to install it without that function for now and I will address the memory seat later. Below are a few pics of my drivers seat now installed. They need a good deep clean and conditon. Once i've installed the other side, I will post more pics and videos showing the seats working. So stay tuned. Updates on here might be a bit slow as I tend to prioritise updates and stuff on my instagram, so feel free to follow me on my instagram for more updates (link in my signature)

  13. After my second attempt of buying an Lexus ES premium addition (2022 - 6 months of waiting with no built date, end up cancelling) now after an order in April - it arrived 8th august. Was out the country and missed the calls/emails to say it was ready….just a 400 mile flight and to sell my old 3 series!!

Pedestrian crossing and a lady was walking past so Im stationery. Next thing you know a Golf is buried into my rear bumper. Thankfully the car is insured but the driver was a dodgy character. Seems all our cars are getting new bumpers over the past few years

  15. My dealer and a number of UK OL Lexus parts suppliers quoted a price of just short of £400 for this piece of polystyrene! I looked at the following overseas suppliers who have a good reputation with goods coming from Toyota Central Spares locations and got one for a little over £100. These sites are: https://yoshiparts.com https://www.amayama.com/en https://www.megazip.net https://partsouq.com They all have good software with on screen access to the parts catalogue pages with short and full stock numbers. So, for example, for the space saver tool tray the short number (PCN?) is 64779E for the UK supplied deep one (on the left) and the one that covers a space saver in the middle of this picture. But when you click on the latter you get its full part number 64779-33280. Now, I don't have to be 'nice' to the dealer's parts guy and find him/her on a good day (an oxymoron I think)!

  16. Some good news, folks. Just to confirm that my sixteen month wait was finally brought to a close today. Just for those who are curious, here it is: Normally on 'new car day' I'm very happy, 'full of beans' and on top of the moon. I can truthfully say that this is the first time in many years of new car collections, I’ve never felt so 'care free' about it all. I'm annoyed if anything. It really has beaten me, this one... Again, if there's any genuine emotion coming through - it really is just 'relief'. As explained in the '2023 Delivery Date' thread, I don't know when it was built, I don't know what ship it was on and I don't know when it arrived in the UK. It was just built 'at some point' randomly in June (even that’s debateable) and then just 'materialised' at the dealers nine/ten days ago. That's all I know about it. It's a complete unknown otherwise. I'm unsure whether a review at this stage is necessary as I respect 'everyone and their dog' have had their NX's (from first half of 2022 orders - even sometimes more recent) for many months already - so I'm unlikely to go to that length as people's interest will have waned. You all know what the script is with them already and I certainly don't want to waste my own time or yours. It's just a case for me to play ‘catch up’ with a MY24 car which technically I didn't order. I know many have said "you’ll enjoy it when it arrives" and phrases to that extent. Well...only time will tell. I've literally just driven it back from the dealer within the last few hours, parked up, took a few quick pictures and walked away. 'Enjoying' it really isn't a sentiment I can share at this moment in time. Time is a good healer though. Let's just wait and see. True, it's a car that may be worth waiting six months for, possibly twelve... But 16? Plus, with little sympathy for the extended wait or the trouble this has caused. After all, it's no better than any other NX out there, is it? As many other NX owners have already experienced upon collection - there's no locking wheel nuts, no second key (just a spare 'key blade' for now - which I've been told to literally protect with my life) and no instruction manual. No estimated dates given for either the locking wheel nuts or second key, either. A mere shrug of the shoulders and told it could take "up to a year". 🤷‍♂️ <Takes a deep breath> “Pppppppffffffffffffff................” 😣

  17. Thank you for all your comments so far, folks. I do appreciate them. I didn’t really want to comment further on this thread until I had the car for a week and taken some time to reflect - so apologies for the delay in responding back. I could have said a lot more in my opening post and I admit what I did post was the ‘toned down’ version. I did actually remove quite a bit from it before hitting the post button because after I read it back to myself, it did turn into a bonafide moan. More so than just about anything I ever posted over on the ‘2023 Delivery Date’ thread! I literally drove it back from the dealer on collection day and that was it. The collection experience... Yeah... Let’s just say it would have been better if I was just given the key by the receptionist and sent on my way. I never did go back to it until the following day until I put my own things in it as I was at 'bubbling point' by the time I got back home. As things stand, I’m up to 268 miles. With just one exception, I’ve basically just used it to go back and forth to work as if it were a courtesy car. At this point, it really is just "an car" to me. It’s not that I don't like it. Far from it. It's a very good car. It's just the whole poor experience right from ordering up to and including collection really has put a dark cloud over the whole thing for me. It serves as a reminder of Lexus incompetence (something I’d never thought I’d say) and no customer service with new vehicle sales. Not to mention no manual means I’m frustrating myself trying to find out how things work by pressing random buttons and seeing what happens. I don’t think those who ‘only’ had to wait up to a year to get their identical cars (and/or given more priority) quite realise just how chronic some fellow customers have had it with the NX ordering process. Even now, with missing bits such as second keys and locking wheel nuts (with no idea how or when they’ll turn up) - it just adds insult to injury. I appreciate that may sound harsh to some and I respect that. I can only be honest with how I feel. I’m really struggling to justify the ‘premium waiting time’ with my NX over other NX’s. Is the Terrane Khaki paintwork any different than others? Is the Hazel interior or any other fixtures/fittings any better? Is the engine/transmission any better? So, what exactly makes this particular car worth those extra months? As the saying goes, time is a great healer and my mood may change going forward. I really, really hope it does. Lets just wait and see. In the meantime, if anyone has any suggestions over where I can purchase some locking wheel nuts without involving Lexus (so I might actually get somewhere), please feel free to let me know. Then there’s just the issue of getting the second key which I don’t know how I’m going to get around. At that point, I can then decide whether to keep the car or cut all these troubles and move to another manufacturer.

  18. Interesting point Malc, are you saying a 40 +year old car, assuming well cared for, would fetch less today than then? I do recall being offered in the seventies a CKD E-type, released from the Suez canal embargo for £1500 which I declined , one of my many errors of judgement 🤣

  19. Maybe just you and me then Malcolm? Now on around 165k miles, I've done around 4,000 since getting it three years ago. Realistically too much to do on it as a long-term project, but I'll try and keep it going for as long as I can. In a back-to-back drive with a Mk4 I reckoned it was smoother, although it isn't as fast nor economical. The magical smoothness of the engine and 'box are still a revelation, better in some regards than my hybrid, V6 RX. There's a purity to the look of the Mk1 on it's 15" wheels that is lost on the later models.

  20. One advantage to having two GS450h, is parts swapping. The N/S Cam sensor works just fine in the running GS450h. This makes me think there is either a wiring issue or an Engine ECU problem. I guess I will try to get the crank sensor out by loosening the A/C compressor.

Mk1 non-interference engine remembering the seats are just as comfy as my Mk3 indicator stalk the other side no cigar lighter in the back seat armrests but a centre rear one ok the front ashtray isn't as deep to hold my iphone 😥 the aircon works 👍 no under tray pax front seat ...... where I hide my gold sovereigns ........... Mk1 seems a tad more powerful tbh, quicker and faster but maybe that's coz she's just been serviced and only done 97k miles ...... my Mk3 247k miles Both are brilliant stunning powerful V8s .... . my Mk3 has far more dings and dents and repaired Cat N rear door damage ... the Mk1 in grey looks just " stunning " by comparison I simply alternate their use unless we're off to Sadiq Khan ULEZ land when the Honda Legend has to suffice Now got 11.5 ltrs under the bonnets ! 29. partsouq are good... they are dubai based i think but they were quick at delivery and much cheaper for oem parts. had the part within 4 days however, i would give Lexus Parts Direct a try first as i have also had good deal for parts as well, not always but worth checking first. Only thing i guess that may be an issue is if ordering outside UK for expensive items is the good old customs will get their greasy mits on it.

  30. Cost of parts, risk of theft - I had to get a tracker to get insurance, plus everybody is seeing higher premiums probably because the FCA stopped the practice of new customers being offered better deals than long term customers. Meddling in a free market caused by politicians again and look what happens. I’m with classicline on a modern classic policy because I’ve been with them for years, only downside is no NCB accrual so I only gain NCB on my other car. Alloy insurance - they’ll take your money if you want them to but it’s only £200-300 per claim from memory, which on an LC won’t be anywhere near enough - my supplying dealer was honest and said it just wasn’t worth doing. And finally Lexus insurance should insure Lexus cars. No argument.

  32. App works OK for my 2022 NX. Seems to be accurate with journeys and location - better than the old App. EV & petrol range is ok but predicted total range is wrong. The main update expected was send navigation to car but still can't do that although the blurb says you can.

  33. I couldn’t agree more the TVR was the epitome of that. I get the feeling that with all these mega expensive cars we all dream of owning is more the situation where we are allowed to buy and run what they have made on their terms and we are privileged to have the opportunity in their eyes.
    1 point
  34. There is a an underlying truth begging to get out in that story. It is this, 'handbuilt' tends to be conceptualised by people has superior and worthy of a premium. The reality is it can almost never replicate the precision and reliability of a machined product. Essentially we are being encouraged to buy a misrepresentation of reality and if you dig into it ,it is invariably just great marketing behind it. Indeed, if the production was ever as good as the marketing you' d be making a good buy.

  44. I’ve finished the job…applied paint. I had another look at Lanogard and see that it has to be applied annually. So I’m happy with my choice. Kurust is very good and a good brush into and onto areas difficult to brush that do have heavy rust scale works very well. The suspension bars have the most rust with everything else in good shape.

You'd have to remove the seat to clear them.

  47. I've had my UX250h for almost three and a half years (it goes in a couple of weeks' time), and yes, it does all depend on what your style of driving is. The fuel tank is indeed rather small in the UX, but given the hybrid nature of the engine, it doesn't really need one. Plus, it's been notably cheaper in terms of filling up than my last car as a result of the smaller tank. In terms of economy - during colder months I can get high 40's going back and forth to work. During warmer months, that usually tops out in the mid-50's. I can squeeze that towards 57/58mpg if you're really light on the throttle. When it comes to distance drives, mid to high 50's is about the average depending on road conditions, climate control usage e.t.c... For me, I need to have a pretty heavy right foot and driving in winter for that to drop to the likes of 50/51/52mpg. I have achieved over 60mpg a handful of times on distance runs, but that's more the exception rather than the rule. Overall given it's engine size and power output, I've been very happy with it when it comes to economy.
