  5. It's been resolved!!! My son requested to cancel the gift card, they initially refused as the gift card had been technically redeemed (by me). Australia Amazon contacted me for my permission for them to cancel the balance in my Australian account. After l agreed they sent me a code that l had to use in order for them to do that. They have reduced my balance to zero and after a period of time they will return the $600 to my son. Lesson learned!!!

  12. Hi all, I'm back again with my 3rd ever IS250! My first was an 2010 IS250 F Sport, then I had a 2008 IS250 SE-L and now I've got a IS250 SE! It's weird as I've gone a bit backwards in spec, but I'm happy this one at least has the Mark Levinson stereo which I'm unsure of it being common or standard in this lower spec model. I do miss the memory function, xenon's and the electrically adjustable steering adjustment but less to go wrong (making myself feel better!). Happy to be back in a Lexus, especially in the current market and with my current limited budget! I'll run the car for a little while and see what needs doing.

  14. The motoring press are gushy about whichever manufacturer buys the most advertising. I don't trust most of them but have over the years learned to read certain reviewers and read between the lines of their comments. They are rarely looking for what we are looking for in a car. Many years ago Clarkson commented that the LS430 was supremely competent and whisper quiet but too dull and bland looking. Sounded like my ideal car and what do you know,... it is 😁

  17. I guess one option would be to use the gift card to purchase items from Amazon AU for your son (and his family and possibly other trusted individuals?) in Australia over the forthcoming months until the card value is drained. You could seek recompense from them for each purchase in some way (electronic or otherwise). I realise that's a bit of a faff but it would work. Now whether your son is willing, or indeed able, to stump up another $600 for the planned Christmas present is another matter.

  18. Hello, Regarding my 2010 Lexus Ls600hl Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has helped, am getting there. Still have the front LED sidelight to sort and the drivers mirror (does not fold in automatically) but all of a sudden now retracts. Sorted out the following. With my solution also mentioned... TPMS not working - replaced all 4 sensors from ebay and programmed via Carista app. Fuel consumption low - changed both front air filters and carried out a de-carbon. Front passenger window not going up properly - carried pout the reset program. Braided cable 4 inch rusted (attached to underside body and m gearbox) Lexus wanted £268! and back order- bought an 11 inch one from Euro carparts (cost £2.78) and auto electrician cut to size. Front power socket does not have power- replaced 15A fuse, from under driver side fuses (no.5. also note fuses are micro size). Not really a lot of work, but thanks to you guys got it all sorted. Have a very Merry Christmas (festive greetings if you don't celebrate)

  19. I use Autoglym interior cleaner on just about everything. A mild solution of your surfer is also ok. My UX has soft leather seats so I use Meguires leather wipes on them.

  20. Don't think it'd matter how close you park to the wall with the new NX. It's got encrypted canbus anyway so they won't use the canbus method

  22. If Lexus have any sense and respect for customers, the keys are small enough to airfreight at relatively zero cost.

  23. Or why our government decided that DLRs will resolve all the problems, rather than simply make into the law to turn on the lights like most of Europe. Once drivers build that habit (and they do in few years) then you don't need technical solutions for simply turning the lights on. That said last Wednesday noticed Prius driving without lights, it was 4PM, but in this time of the year it was already getting kind of dark and then specifically looked to the plate, because it looked like rather new car... sure enough 67 plate. No lights whatsoever... And I am like "wait, but these should have DLRs from factory and it is legal requirement to fit it"... sure it is for any car after 2012, yet people go to extreme lengths disable even the DLRs (I know in US that is popular mod)... I just don't get, why would anyone want to be less visible, sure... too lazy to turn the lights on, because it is not required in UK, but actually take time specifically to disable feature that is there to make everyone safer?! The only saving grace it was white car, so not exactly easy to miss.

  24. Just one thing to think about, if it spends a lot of time not being driven the 12v battery can go flat, so consider a trickle charger. Otherwise a great car when you get used to how to drive a hybrid. Have a great Christmas and welcome to LOC.

  25. The ones that come around corners knowing you are coming the other way yet wait for the auto dip to kick in and totally blind me before they dip. I've started keeping my beam on when I see them coming now to see how they like it... Seen that too, behind one that uses DLR at night and has no rear lights. Why car makers thought it was a good idea to not have tail lights on with them is beyond me...

  27. Find a used approved and you’ll get 12 months of warranty from the day you buy. They are solid and reliable cars. That will be peace of mind for you, if you’re afraid to pull the trigger. Are you inclined to continue with dealership servicing? You get warranty for up to 10 years if you keep up with dealership servicing. That will give great peace of mind too, as if something goes wrong (you’re in the premium sector now) then it can be costly. Thankfully issues are rare. I personally operate without relying on Lexus warranty. Specialist servicing instead of main dealer. The app is quite useless. Pretend it is not an option. There is no auto heated windscreens or connectivity. You might be better spending money on an aftermarket upgrade of the screen, adding in Apple CarPlay or Android Auto functionality. ML audio is nice but if you don’t appreciate the audio, no need for the upgrade. All editions have Bluetooth audio and calls. Not sure AA inspection is worth the paper it is written on. Find a fine specimen with a careful previous owner / enthusiast. I personally prefer the F-Sport styling.

  29. It seems the new 300h will be offered with non leather option. I’d take Alcantara every time. I don’t yearn leather and it starts to stretch and distort in no time.

  30. It was the White Ochre that I had in my NX. Surprisingly easy to keep clean and made for a very bright interior with the panoramic roof!

  31. Our UX looked like the leather had never been cleaned by the previous owner in 2 years! There were a few black scuffs too which I thought would be permanent, but the Dr Leather stuff has got the seats looking like new. All marks gone, nice and matt. The water was dirty when I washed the new micro fibre cloths I had used, a lot of grime had been removed!

  36. Check out the video around 9 mins 10 when he announces that it took 5 attempts to align the steering wheel ! Also given the airbag and the delicate clock spring I personally wouldn’t attempt this job.

  37. Older is better and less complicated. like normal lights that don't blind everyone coming the other way instead of LEDs that cost an arm and a leg when they blow. I will keep my older one until something serious goes wrong...

  38. Congrats.... these bloody IS250s... they are so good that it is hard to replace them! It is funny indeed, because I did similar thing 2012 F-Sport > 2010 Premium (it was US AWD, but specs wise like SE-L, but without wood grain), then 2008 SE-L and now 2006 SE-L. So spec. wise I didn't go backward, but age wise older an older. To be fair it kind of makes sense - second generation Lexus IS250 where pretty much the same throughout the years, fundamentally the same engine, gearbox, power, fuel consumption etc. What changes was only infotainment system, minor things like indicators on mirrors, DLRs, things that honestly do not matter. Infotainment is shaite either way, even back when it was new it was outdated and now it is basically irrelevant whenever it is first or last car that rolled of the line, it would be considered outdated. So it kind of makes sense to go for older model all else (vehicle condition) being equal. ML in SE is indeed very unusual and weird, so if memory serves to get ML you had to buy Navigation for £1995 and only then you could put ML option for £1000 (or am I mistaken this for MK3?) So somebody saved £3,000 on SE-L, to then spend them on ML, which to be fair in MK2 makes minor difference considering standard car had 13 speakers and ML only adds 1 speaker in the centre. Sure it goes from something like 375W to 795W in power and clarity is much improved, but apart of that it is not like MK3 that has poverty line 6 speaker stereo which is awful by default. In MK2 ML is really a marginal improvement. As for less stuff to go wrong - probably not, Lexus are not known as far as stuff going wrong is concerned. Certainly not memory seats, not wheel column - but every little helps I guess!

  40. Amazingly planning was fine, as we are literally just outside the boundary of a conservation area. The biggest 'risk' to the project by far was getting the steels installed, we needed 35 tons of worth split into about nearly 100 pieces. Both the builder and steels fabricators openly confessed half way through getting the structure up they hadn't realized how complicated the structure was and that it was the hardest domestic project they have done. I had serious worries one or both were just going drop the job due to the complexity, but we got there in the end, and the result is essentially the entire new section of the house doesn't require a single supporting wall, all the weight is carried on the steels, which opens up so many options for room placement etc. It's a shame most of the steels will be hidden by insulation/plaster boards, but we will leave at least one bit on show. The construction of the front gable really was something I couldn't picture until it was in!! Looking forwards to 2024 and seeing if we can move in before the summer :D.

  45. Surely there are grounds for a class legal action against Lexus. All these adverts that you are owed thousands of pounds if you once looked at a diesel car, and at most impacted owners have taken a relatively small hit on resale values.

  46. Dan, Being a father is something special, and you never stop being a parent. I would say I got my first LS when my son was 7 years old, him and his mates thought it was such a cool car, so maybe in future you can indulge. Having just got rid of my LS (scrapped), after 16 years of Lexus ownership their still is nothing like an LS, but at least we have all enjoyed a period of driving such a magnificent beast. Sorry to hear about the miscarriage, and all the best for success with some 'tiddly-winks' in the near future

  48. OK - so I didn't go ahead with this as the car was actually a simple fix - the pipe leading from the Thermostat to the expansion tank, and then from expansion tank to nothing seemed to be the problem. I can't explain why, but once I changed this with another it stopped losing coolant immediately. I did all the research though, and the swap is 100% viable, and probably the cheapest way to add c50bhp!
