Full spectrum of colours and prices now and here's today's latest addition, looks very very nice 2 years Lexus warranty remaining. Its original registration number is DF08VSJ https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201712182139995?model=IS F&advertising-location=at_cars&sort=sponsored&radius=1500&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly New&onesearchad=New&make=LEXUS&postcode=ba11rj&page=2 Big Rat3 points

So I’ve learned about 3 more cars today alone thanks to @Toothy and @ollie isf and found one for myself so the numbers are climbing to the magic 211 ! To give you an idea here is the car once owned by @Toothy father pictures taken back in the day and whoever bought it in 2011 still owns it, look at that paintwork 😎 Big Rat2 points

Are there no Engine Management warning lights on, reading the codes would be a good first move. The symptoms would describe a sticking EGR valve (loss of power and plumes of grey smoke) and with what you mention it would seem the service regime is a little vague given the internal state of the engineand so would be looking at an immediate oil and filter change. Also check the 2 breather pipes they can clog up or collapse.2 points

I think I must of heard most that are available for the isF in person now, which in my opinion is the only way to decide before parting with your cash. So if you just want that extra little bit of V8 burble a few hundred quid will just do it. Cutting off your rear boxes is fine for the extra A+B road antics but get on the motorways and the drone for most is unacceptable. Lots of systems available just depends how much you are prepared to pay most are from a little over a grand to five thousand, it's the percentage value to the car that most need to be wary of I guess. Now I posted up about the Uk company Quicksilver and the Rcf,s they did for Lexus and it was Lexus who approached them, I initially listened to them like we all do on line and i thought I need to hear that in person. So as luck would have @Flytvr has had their cat back system fitted to his Carbon Rcf and it is without a shadow of a doubt absolutely stupendous from the build quality to the noise and zero drone at motorway speeds. Just after he had done I took the below couple of clips unfortunately usual iPhone rubbish speakers better on headphones. With the intention of going back to the airfield to get some full chat runs which we did but the weather was appalling and prevented filming but those of us that were gathered there agreed it is a fantastic deep V8 menacing old school system sound with all the pops and bangs that bring the car to life. There are some great cars featured in the movies, but if you could substitute an F into a movie, what movie would it be, and what F!? Ill start it off - Layer Cake - The magnificent Lexus GS-F1 point

I might be wrong and might need a more technically minded member to confirm but it could cause a 'slight' inaccuracy on your speedo reading. Also the cautious of us would declare the larger tyre sizes to the insurance company.1 point

That's the great thing about the IS-F. I will always love them and respect them. Still missing mine1 point

That's the one, the guy runs Obsessive Compulsive Detailing, hence the OCD He'd not had it long from what he said. Does that check out with the Great Rat Databank?1 point

There's a blue RC-F in the next village, seen it a couple of times. A right garage queen according to the service manager. They were on the taxi rank?1 point

@NemesisUKAh yes only BL could build cars that rusted faster than an aboned trawler 😂 🐀1 point

@NemesisUK Do you think it's the time of year their all coming out to get covered in filth, well except for the Carbon Garage Queen ones that is 🐀1 point

All the BMW X5s and Range Rovers I have driven for the last 15 years have had the fuel burning heater as an accessory. It is most annoying that you can't get this on the RX as it is the best accessory that I have ever had. Get up in the morning and click the remote control. Have a shower and by the time you go out the car is defrosted and ready to go. Makes seat heaters and steering wheel heaters uneccessary.1 point

I am afraid I agree with Shaun, it sounds like a head gasket to me. Now, I am the first to admit I know very little about the mechanics of the LS, but surely losing that much oil, that quickly, without a leak, means it is burning it at quite a rate? Also, a failed head gasket doesn't necessarily mean loss of coolant or mixing of fluids since the gasket might have only broken around an oil way. Unfortunately, this also means a sniff test won't confirm it either. You could try taking the sparks plugs out and seeing if any of them has more oil/soot on it then the others? I do hope that I am wrong though and it is something quick and simple to fix.1 point

I've not had to work on the sensor itself before, but I bookmarked this for future reference as you never know!! Have a scan through this it may give you some pointers. Not the same model but it would not surprise me if some parts are common across the range.1 point

There’s a need to keep stoking these F threads on Pistonheads from time to time. Really can’t do any harm1 point
-
That’s a good question. Not really blown away by H&S either. Probably the best IS-F exhaust I’ve heard is what @Warrington guy has on his. Not sure what it is however..... On the RC-F, rumour has it that the Quicksilver system is awesome GS-F, not sure. Probably best to keep the noise down. You just don’t need the attention when leaving the bank at speed.1 point

The button from the IS is no longer there. It's the same stalk as the RX where you click it down once to go to a auto, twice for intermittent and so on. Also worth remembering that you need to turn the car off and then hold the stalk fully up for a few seconds to go into service mode so the wipers can be changed easily.1 point

Hi Nean ( @Bluethunder). I did see it, but I didn't look at it. I could be wrong, but I suspect silver RC-Fs are going to be hard to shift, so got to be a deal there1 point

@Flytvr did you look at the silver RCF carbon at Stoke when you bought your white one? They've just reduced the price by £3k on the Lexus website!..hmm1 point

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news old bean but it sounds like the head gasket has failed.1 point

There is a specific UHD version you need to find. If you just select the main HD version it doesn't automatically detect you have 4k capabilities and switch to it. If you don't have a 4k device with a built-in Amazon app you won't see the UHD content.1 point

This seems to have happened suddenly as it was fine for the first two weeks? I had a hesitation and stalling on a Mk3 LS400 - I think it was the throttle body - after driving it for a while longer it cured itself to some extent. What mileage is on the car? Did it have a service history? As you are from the West Midlands, could you have inadvertently bought it off a dealer posing as a private seller? You might try the American Lexus Owners Club site. Keep us informed how you get on. Wishing you luck.1 point

Where did you buy the car from? As for the smoke? are you sure it isn't just steam from the condensation the builds up in the exhaust system overnight especially in this cold weather we've been having?1 point

Well William as I stated I would I'm reporting my findings. I switched to auto and then drive to normal. I then started the car then pressed the demist button and hey presto 1 click to demist. Thanks pal. Oh. It works in eco too as I tried it whilst at some lights. The fan sped up to max. Happy bunny now.1 point

I use a method thats probably frowned upon, but as I park outside my house, I use a 10 litre container of warm water (tepid not boiling) and just go over all the windows. its quick and have never cracked a windscreen throughout ownership of cars. However my old Clifford Alarm had remote start and 5 mins of the car running outside all windows are generally clear :-D1 point

Sorry for late reply, didn't see this, oups. All my bits came from Nippon auto spares, great company, great prices, fast delivery and very helpful. Only bit that disapointed me was that i ordered track rod ends, not realising the ball joint wasnt part of it. They didnt mention this and i couldnt return them as nippon had to special order them for me. Guess it was my fault for not confirming before ordering though.1 point

Sounds odd that you need to do that. If my climate control is on auto, when I press the demist button the air is directed to the windscreen and the fan speeds up automatically. The windscreen demists quickly. I wonder why your fan doesn't speed up automatically. Is it because you've changed the fan speed from the auto setting? Or is the air conditioning turned off? Or maybe the fan speed only increases when the engine has warmed up a bit. But that seems unlikely from what the RAC website says (mentioned in a link above) as even cold air will help. Another factor of course is that the screen should be clean. In days gone by, before air conditioning, people would wipe the windscreen to get rid of mist. But that just made it worse by putting specks of dust on the windscreen that the mist would stick to. Might be worth checking the air conditioning is working properly. My experience is that the whole car mists up if the air conditioning is turned off in wet or cold weather.1 point

Pete It sounds like you have a airlock within the heating matrix and this is causing restricted flow that is fluctuating with increased pressure from the engine when the temp goes up. You will be best served getting the system totally flushed and refilled properly exhausting any airlocks. The leak in the radiator can cause the problem you have in that it will draw air into the system as it cools down after use this air lock will travel round the system and get lodged because the pressure on both sides of the airlock equalises.1 point

Given the date of the original post it's a moot point but worth noting that this is actually misdirection and half truth on the part of the original seller. There is no such thing as a trade sale (or sold as seen) between a Registered business selling a car and a member of the public. Your statutory rights are unaffected (i.e. fit for purpose, right to reject, etc.), if you choose not to buy a warranty that's fine (none I've found cover the hybrid system anyway so useless on a 400h) but certainly in this case the car was not fit for purpose at the time of purchase and the buyer would have been well within his rights to return the car for a refund.1 point

I have an SC430 that had levelling sensor problems - now fixed for pennies - The sensors are on the front and rear nearside suspension. They can be removed with a 10 mm & 8 mm spanner. These sensors often get water in side which causes their failure. Rather than pay Lexus £300 to fix try this. Remove sensor ( try the front one first) take it onto a clean table. Unscrew the 4 cross head screws. Inside you will find a variable resistor. There are 3 wires going into this sensor. First with either a meter or bulb circuit tester check that each of the 3 plug contacts are conducting to one of the 3 springs ( see photo ) Often the sockets where the springs fit are rusty and sometimes the springs themselves are disintergrated by rust. Pull each spring out using fine nosed pliers and look at the condition of the gold plated contact at the bottom of each socket. If there is rust present use a small screwdriver to scratch away rust until shiny and bright. Clean each spring - replace any that look past it - Recheck each spring for electrical continuity. If all ok replace cover and 4 screws and refit to car. If you can not clean up then consider soldering a wire from the lead between the plug and the sensor and feeding it into the unit and soldering it to the dodgy spring.
