  1. Can’t beleive it , spent ages on a reply to your comments then found I wasn’t signed in Doooh 😞 So here we go again ! I would like to stand on a soapbox and rant at all the manufacturers who in MHO compromise the safety of all our sons daughters and wives who drive the family car to save money by Not supplying a spare wheel , it infuriates me and for many brands not even a space saver is supplied Now having read your posts I have to agree that any spare regardless, compromises fuel economy and to a minor degree performance , this coming from a guy who spent a fortune on a highly tuned Skyline just for track days and yes the spare always came on track with me but did I notice a drop in performance of course not , fuel , well yes just a wee bit !! It was always in the back of my mind I had no spare and suddenly for the first time ever, there I was for several hours on the hard shoulder of a motorway awaiting recovery .. for those of you not worried by the lack of a spare or want better fuel consumption consider this, fortunately I was on my own but you suddenly find yourself in my position on said hard shoulder but with your family and young children and like me, sitting in the nettles and weeds , suddenly some muppett watching a film on his laptop driving his 40ft HGV plows into the back of your car , we have all watched Traffic Cops on TV , what would your reaction be or if any of your familty were injured , would you blame yourself or the manufacturer for not giving you that spare you could have changed in 10 minutes and been on your way , the guy that sold you the car wouldn’t feel bad any more than the CEO of the company Northumberland afforded me 1000’s of puncture free miles for years , however living in Cumbria for 10 years emptied my wallet to be replaced by receipts for split wall tyres at 230 quid a pop because of all the slate and stones that drop from the walls and hide under flowers and fern you just can’t see and eventually you are obliged to move over close to that wall to allow the tourist to pass who is hogging most of the road because he dosn’t want the overhanging branches to scratch his car So I say to those who tempt fate , dont stray too far from the beaten track because as tomRCFcarbon said, the shaving foam is as much use as a Cat Flap on a Submarine not to mention the useless Compressor whose seals have perished from lack of use because it just sits in the boot .. time to check it’s working guys !! NEVER again will I buy a car without some form of spare wheel which is one of the reasons I now drive a Lexus and as Womble72 reminded us we won’t even need recovery I am that confident neither of them will break down and of course I have peace of mind that they both carry a full size spare Hope I havn’t upset anyone with my comments but for me its all about safety .. no spare potentially increases your chances of getting stranded Sorry ive gone on , rant over !!

  2. Picked up my grey carbon rcf yesterday. Looks lovely and Lexus done good job in prepping it with new new brakes and tyres and service etc Will start a new thread soon.

  3. That would be awesome if you dont mind as I just bought it! Proper tidy car, couple of marks on rear seats to sort but I am buzzing from it, just felt so right to me after test driving the obvious rivals. I also briefly considered a newer Golf R/Leon Cupra but have now seen the light lol. Hopefully pick up Tuesday after a new parking sensor is fitted... its 3 weeks young enough for the Lexus warranty too!

  4. My best friend and his partner are joining us for the trip. Marius&Helen Already booked room for them at Premier Inn. I will squeeze them somehow in the back seats of my RCF They are traveling all the way from Romania for this blat. He is a big Lexus fan&owner for years now. I’m to blame for that

  5. Hesitate to wade into this passionate discussion, but I want to stress that for at least one Lexus owner, the availability of a hybrid drivetrain was the primary reason for getting into the brand. I think the Toyota/Lexus hybrid system is brilliant, blending mechanical simplicity with sophisticated software to liberate the internal combustion engine to work at its most efficient, while delivering low-speed refinement that was previously only available in very expensive luxury cars, and doing so with outstanding reliability. However creamy a non-hybrid V6/V8/V12 might be, I never want to own a car with something as crude as a starter motor again. Drivers – and in particular motoring journalists – who’ve been used to conventional transmissions seem unable to get their heads round the idea that an internal combustion engine’s speed might vary with road speed in a non-linear way. But once you’ve accepted that, the planetary power-split gearset and the associated software take care of the rest. Some of the hybrid system’s overall efficiency comes from letting the ICE run in its most efficient operating zones, as well as the recovery of kinetic energy under braking. As a hybrid purist, I’m somewhat sceptical about the added complexity Lexus is introducing by trying to simulate conventional drivetrains with virtual gears, paddle shifters and two-stage transmissions. Though I'd happily accept the extended loan of an LC500h to explore this further. This just a way of saying that I don’t think all or even most IS/GS/RC/NX300h owners reluctantly settled for hybrids just because of the tax breaks. Some of us love the way they drive.

  6. Hi Guys, Off to view my first ISF today (finally!) its a silver 2008 model (WV58 BCU) 2 owners from new. The first was a doctor and then a private owner from 2014 until now, anyone recognise it? Its got full history, 76k miles, and just had the wheels refurbed. Up for £15,890 at a local dealer. Only 7 for sale on Autotrader at the moment! Thanks, Ryan

  7. After a hideous journey to Essex on the M25 the ride home was superb, quiet, relaxed and it drove beautifully. So far so good. I'll get some decent photos on soon for anyone interested. Road tax only £265. All I need to do now is find out how to stop it talking to me in Japanese every time I start it!

  10. @Womble72 I really miss that car, first of the breed, flew under the radar, humbled a couple of Supercars and never ever let me down once...……. I have always said, the ISf, except from the front, just look right, the rear and rear three quarter view is beautiful, it is as quick as any other F car in 99% of any given conditions and will, I have no doubt increase in value. I am very happy with the GSf, in a way its a grown up ISf, has a bit more tech on it which I must admit does work up to a point, the TVD is very good and it looks more up to date, but is the GSf worth twice as much as an ISf? No way...…………………..

  14. I bought the blue one mentioned above from Coventry. Used to belong to Markg. I'd been lurking on here beforehand to get some idea of what to look out for concerning the ISF. Saw it advertised and did an MOT history check which showed the brakes needed attention. Armed with this information I viewed the car, looking at the pads and discs carefully. I didn't want my purchase to be influenced by the sound of the V8, so didn't start it, let alone drive it! When looking at the service history, the brakes had been done, so had no worries. I didn't drive it because I know a quick trial up the road would not be long enough to fully understand it, and would be a waste of time when being offered with the Lexus warranty, and also my purchase of the 2 years extension. Deal done, I went home and looked about getting the exhaust done, but because I hadn't signed up here, had no idea of the history! 4 days later was pick up time. Driving home along the M45 on my own, I thought, bleedin' hec., this sounds nice!! Arriving home, the wife asked what I'd bought! Next day, looked underneath, and hey presto exhaust all done. Thanks Mark! ( and I still love it ) So yes I bought it unknowingly, but in my case a good result, and there's enough history on here as proof that I purchased a modified car

  16. Some great posts and puts the thread on an even keel. Thankyou for posting and reminding me what this place is all about. This forum was always about embracing Lexus, not slagging it off at every opportunity, something has been lost in translation along the way.

  17. I used to think that sunroofs were a complete waste of time. I thought they were only useful for people below average height that didn’t drive above 30 miles per hour. BUT, I take it back - they can be useful - as can be seen here. I popped the sunroof open, and the Mrs was able to film this rather lovely Mustang. Sunroof is now closed and will remain so until I need it again - in about 10 years - possibly

  18. To be fair I would have gone for the 350 if it was here and its probably the only thing Linas and me agree upon, However it isn't here so I did a back to back with the IS250 and IS200t over numerous test drives and decided, without doubt the IS200t was a better all round drive . I left a straight six Lexus, to go to a straight six BMW with a turbo to come back to a 4 pot turbo that does everything better than the previous cars and with newer tech. It was a no brainer. That said I'm itching for an RCF now so lets see what happens. I've had two years of brilliant ownership, as a daily driver its spot on.

  19. Hi Chris, nice to hear from you. The IS300h economy figures are astounding and would encourage me to have one if I could be pursuaded to part with my GS 450H. The IS seems to offer Lexus quality, engineering and reliability along with economy which once could only be obtained by small cars with diesel engines. I do intend however to keep my GS which provides for all of my current needs. DO continue to enjoy your IS and please keep us all informed as to how it is serving your needs. Lexus motoring is given only to the chosen few !

Such a haven of peace and tranquility, a veritable Jewel in the Crown of British Motorway Services cuisine. I think that dear lady cleaned my shoes on the occasion of my very first visit. :):)

  21. I see others have mentioned the blue Rcf they have just got in stock, but with me having an interest in all things ‘F’ car related I looked a little deeper at the Autotrader advert. There is a row of pictures on the advert some are very recent but others are from 2015. So this one contains an Rcf a Gsf and an isF from that year..... not a great picture blown up but.... It shows the 3 one is a White Carbon I wasn’t aware of which hasn’t been mot’d and has outstanding recalls, wonder if its still on the road. I know the Gsf and the IsF all 3 reg numbers if any owners on here are... Rcf GU15URV Gsf. GX66MGJ isF. WN13 WZR Big Rat

  22. Don't turn the a/c off, ever! Set it to the temperature you like and set it on Auto with a/c on and leave it to do it's job. Leaving the a/c on also helps keep the seal lubricated. There is a negligible hit on mpg...

  23. @Mark G.....I’ve been in Ryo GSF a couple of times and it’s a VERY nice place to be, I’m amazed at the low number of sales and the ending of it too, think the GSF will increase too, ISF as first BUT GSF as such low numbers and the huge step up between the two. 👍🏻....will u be joining the group on the 29th?.....looking to be a good turnout 👍🏻

He bought the car from Lexus Bristol and it is a nice one serviced by them and he was handy with the spanner’s himself. He is still regular at meets dispute going over to Ze Germans. I can always pm you pictures and the odd video of the car from the last couple of years. Big Rat

  29. Have you checked the actual tyre sizes fitted on each wheel of the car? They should all be the same. It has been known for a different width or aspect ratio to be inadvertently be fitted. This gives a different TPM (turns per mile) for the wrongly fitted tyre fooling the anti skid system into thinking there is a problem. John.
    1 point
  30. That's very weird. Normally the anti-skid light would come on under acceleration i.e. traction control or if the car was in a spin. My guess would be that the car thinks that you are in a spin and it is possibly pulsing each brake in turn trying to find the best grip. I'm guessing that you're not driving in this way so I would imagine that one wheel is registering as going slower or faster than it really is hence confusing it. I would say wheel speed sensor/ABS sensor or reluctor ring as already suggested.

  31. I’m really happy that hybrid owners like the way they drive and that they’re reliable too. No one says they shouldn’t be offered but more conventional drive trains can and should be offered too. It would open the marque to more people Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  33. The wipes never seem to be as good as spray on cleaners. I would say every 6 months if they get fairly dirty or just keep it to once a year if the car is only driven say 5k miles per year

  34. Also many other drivers just jealous because they can’t do what BMW/AUDI drivers can as they are scared to do it or in most cases their car won’t let them, well, just my opinion That’s the bmw Audi arrogance right there. I for one am annoyed, not jealous because some of their driving is downright dangerous to other road users including me and my kids. Others don’t do what they do because they are good drivers not arrogant ignorant or selfish in their driving

  35. Sorry, Vlad.Big letters were my mistake in not realising that caps key was on. I think that in general you are right.Audi,BMW and Merc drivers are today`s yuppies who can afford these cars and display arrogance and bad manners. Mt best pal has a BMW however and he is a gentleman personified in all he does. I also drive a (old) Merc and try to observe all that I learned from The Highway Code which cost me the principal sum of one old penny!!

  36. You can't moisturise the leather as it's sealed. I found the Dr Leather wipes I tried a couple of times just left the surface tacky.. As has been said already deep cleaning the seats really only needs to be done a couple of times a year. Just give the leather a wipe over with a damp cloth each time you clean the car or vacuum the carpets. It's probably more important to clean the seats of any grit and general dust that can abrade the leather surface and cause cracks to appear in the coating

  37. 30K on Michelin primacy is that a record, also I would suggest the tyre walls are not as good as when new, so no doubt tyre noise/rumble will change when you get some new tyres on there.

  38. All fair comments. I’ve had several punctures over the last few years (although none in the RCF). On every occasion the foam failed to fix the problem and the vehicles had to be recovered 😡

  40. Grant, Did mine this week. Unlike you I've never changed discs before. Straightforward job even whilst sitting on pavement. The discs are handed if they have cooling slots. Poke a screwdriver into the slots of the old ones at the top. It will lean forward i.e. the slots are not radial. The idea is to scoop up cooling air better. Should also be marked on the box. I did not find any caliper pins. On the back yes but the front callipers have two pistons each side of the disc and do not need to float on pins. I can recommend ProSlip Pin, Pad and Clip grease available on Amazon with discount for LOC members. Lee's advice about not starting the engine when pistons could pop out is excellent. I had my key in my pocket but didn't go near the start button. Hope you manage it with no problems. I discovered this evening that my car had a caliper recall in 2009. Does anyone know any details of this recall? John

  44. Clearly none of us are party to what actually transpired, but if the Buyer is to have a case to pursue, then (a) He will have to show that he was mislead into signing the Disclaimer and that it was simply a ruse by the Seller to avoid his own Statutory responsibilities and to "justify" to the Buyer the finally negotiated purchase price. (b) The M.O.T. Certificate will show the date, time and location of the vehicle examination and be compared with the financial documentation. If the Seller arranged the M.O.T. prior to issuing the Disclaimer the Buyer wins. If the Buyer arranged his own M.OT, he loses. But of course, all of that is subject to the Buyer, (the OP) telling us all what actually happened as regards the details of the entire transaction. If only matters were so simple !! The events may unfold. We shall wait and see.

  45. Denso are the OEM wipers and I always fit them to mine as I have also found them to be much better than other brands. I get them from www.carparts4less.co.uk . A look at their site shows a set for a Mk4 GS for approx £26.00 with free delivery.
    1 point
  46. Why would you go to a main dealer for wipers? Many excellent brands are available from many excellent motor factors at prices far below main dealers, so why do it? If you really must do it, I found that buying through my local Toyota main dealer was also a lot cheaper. I needed the Toyota Super Long Life Pink coolant for my old RX300 and found it was about half the price of my nearest Lexus dealer who is about 30 miles away.

  47. @Stuno1 I enjoy the thrill of acceleration rather than top speed so 0-60 is important to me personally but not from a bragging rights perspective. It came in handy last week when my 3 year old decided she needed a wee on a busy A34. Pulled into parking layby, she did what she needed to do, I then managed to filter nicely into a gap (with no run up on layby) by booting it (to which my kids giggled and the wife shouted at me) that a slower car may have struggled with 🙂 People always ask 0-60 and it's amusing to see their reaction when I tell them my fairly ordinary looking ISF can do it in 4.x seconds depending on what you read. 30 - 70 is always the one I look at though. The ISF as you well know covers this quite nicely and multiple car overtakes on a decent A/B road when conditions allow are effortless.
