  1. It's fixed two weeks later so was expecting a huge bill or more bad news but turned out not so bad very reasonable, definitely been a lesson though I won't even be changing the TV remote battery's from now on. Good service from lexus leeds.

  2. OK, I have just checked Oil, water etc' etc' all good, done B/days tip ( which wasn't clicked as it should be) took the car for a quick spin and vsc,vfs lights went out. Check hybrid system was still on so also did a tip I seen today about holding the trip meter and restating the car then pressing it 5 times. Not sure what it was this or the fuel cap but check hybrid system went off. Fingers crossed it should be ok now. I did notice the sensor behind the back d/side has broken so need that replacing. Thanks for the tips 10/10 will pop back here if anything else goes wrong.

  3. Well a week or so later and I have made up my mind...... It is going to be the NX Premier. I found the RX a bit daunting in size and felt it would be an absolute devil to park in tight multi storey car parks. It is gorgeous though and so wide inside, or so it felt. So after a few days humming and haa-ing and after test drives, I plumped for the NX. My son in law has the F Sport version, so I knew the interior was going to be good. It was nice to see one with a few more bells and whistles on it though 😂 Getting in and out of the NX was easy too, which was my main self-afflicted gripe over the IS we currently have. It will be a shame to say goodbye to the IS because it is a lovely car to drive, just a bummer getting out of it at my age, old fart that I am 😜 We collect the NX on Friday. It is a 66 plate in Mercury Grey, with about 38k miles on it. The interior looks great, no sagging seats or marked interior despite the higher than normal mileage. Looks like I will have to change my nom de plume on here now 😊 Thanks for all the comments and suggestions too, they did help.

  5. Do check the fuel filler cap. If removing and then reinstalling it - fully tightened - fixes it then this is a known solution. Just clean the cap and the filler rim without dropping any dirt inside the filler and see if that helps.

  7. I purchased a 15 plate CT last year for the Mrs and for the life of me could not figure out why the rear seats were damp most of the time and windows constantly steaming. Initially I was under the impression my son spilled water on the back seat. The other day my son mentioned seeing water spill on to the floor when my wife braked sharply. Me being slow off the mark decided to examine the boot are and low and behold found a few mm of water in the base of the boot and even on the rim of the spare wheel! The seals seem fine, has anyone else had this issue and if so how was it resolved? My car is going in for the full+ service on Wednesday so I plan for the Hatfield branch to give it the once over. Sorry one more thing, the serving is costing £475, is this a normal price, seems a little steep, with the MOT be £530 all in.

  8. Hey Everyone, I made a wee video on the collection of my 1st Lexus, I hope you love the video? I am loving Lexus ownership. Enjoy, Thomas

  9. Glad you got sorted at a price you were OK with. But what was the delay? did they struggle to sort it out or just struggle to fit it in/

  10. Cheers Herbie, This looks pretty helpful. You're right in that its sold as part of a larger complete unit rather than just a motor and gear interface. Quoted £300 ish Inc. import tax from Amayama who i've used before. I plan to clean and flush the screwed rod and bushings as best i can, just to be sure its not just really gunked up before i go to the dragging everything apart stages... As i mentioned, with a little outward pressure on the steering wheel i can draw it outwards, so i do have moment, and cant hear any plastic crunching from around the little gear chamber. Hopefully, If i manage to regain quiet and free movement after a good clean and degrease, i'll lub it with white lithium grease and keep an eye on it. Fingers crossed for a cheap fix..... hey ho !! Many thanks for your reply, much appreciated ... G

  11. Here's a link to a maintenance schedule for the IS in Europe. It says the spark plugs should be changed at 90,000 km. So if the car has done 105,000 km the garage would probably assume it was done last time if that was around 90,000km. I found it on a French forum about the Lexus IS. I didn't expect there would be such a thing! Here's the link if anyone's interested.

  12. We've had a longish test drive, nice to drive but noisy. I've looked at the review and he mentions a bit of noise from the mirrors and road noise. We were surprised at the level of noise for a not cheap car. We were ready to order one but it was just too unrefined.

  14. It may well be the 12V battery getting low and/or end of life. I know it sounds strange but they do throw up all sorts of gremlins when they begin to go. Have a look at the chart below and measure the 'standing' voltage, ie, car just parked up with nothing on or working, then get the car to the READY state and measure again - you should see somewhere between 13.5 and 14.2V. EDIT: Doh! I forgot to include the chart

  15. I suppose almost anything is doable as long as you can get the parts, and this is where you may have problems because there are a few complete steering columns on eBay but no individual motors as far as I can tell. However, all is not lost as you may be able to repair your own existing motor. I know it's not the same car but this guy managed it on a Toyota Land Cruiser and I'm sure the principle will be the same: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/diy-telescoping-column-motor-removal-repair.610648/

  16. The basic fan is pretty quiet, so you won't be able to tell even when it is running. There's an additional effort made for cooling the condenser, or when stuck in traffic during hot days. That fan is like an airplane revving up and you won't miss that. I say extra effort since I'm not sure whether it's the same fan (with a magnetic control for speed) or separate units. But this extra fan is seldom on. It was a good few days after getting my RX that it first came on. Gave me a scare. But then would come on more regularly because the weather had turned quite hot (yep, that period last year). In all this the temp gauge never moved from it's favourite position midway on the scale so I never gave it any concern.

  17. No idea to be honest, but why are you bothered? Even if someone put a numerical value on it (say for example 95oC) your temperature gauge isn't calibrated numerically so how would you know when they should be on or off? As long as the temperature gauge is in the 'normal' position then everything's working as it should, whether you can hear the fans or not.

  18. You can register with the My Lexus website and then after putting in your VIN can see any servicing carried out by Lexus and what was changed. The spark plugs are a 60K mile service item (not time based only mileage based) - I doubt Lexus would have changed them before that if it was serviced by Lexus previously. I would definitely check if they have or have not been replaced previously otherwise any future service will probably assume they were done at 60K miles and so they may not get changed until 120K miles...!

  21. How dare you put Lexus LS and Chrysler 300CRD in the same sentence!? 😊 Lexus any time. Peerless reliability and comfort, understated looks (in comparison with US brashness), and a petrol/hybrid instead of a noisy diesel. Your petrol bill *may* be higher with the Lexus... but it will not be spending time in the garage between services! From traveling regularly to the US, I can assure you that discerning Americans spend their money on Lexus cars rather than Chryslers...

  22. IMHO electrics in most modern cars is an issue, no matter the marque other than Lexus who seem to focus on getting that right as much as the mechanics. I have heard the 300 is a poor mans Bentley, and assume just like Bentley after a bit of wear and rear the electrics will be the pain. Also I think the 300 looks like a proper pimps car, or TOWIE Taxi (but that is just my opinion)

  24. Hi. I would go for the reliability and luxury of the Lexus any day. You won’t be disappointed as long as it’s been fully serviced. I wouldn’t go for a Chrysler.. looks like rubbish . Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  25. My last 40k full service cost was £446 with no extra work so next time I might combine a service with a holiday in Ireland (Dublin) 👍

  26. The older Chrysler 300 was using the w210 chassis, a Mercedes engine and the 722.6 w210 transmission with the same issues. Add electrical gremlins from Chrysler. In my opinion these components won't age well, so if you're already starting at 10 years it will be a gamble. The LS fares much better in age as well as mileage so a safer bet. More executive feeling than the Chrysler. 400k kms/year - maths gone wrong somewhere? Otherwise I'd think Lexus even more.

  27. Thanks - I had ordered a set of those Toyota ones from ebay, turned out it was a Chinese seller and after I waited nearly 2 weeks for them they were far too small. But anyway I didn't know there was supposed to be grommets and there are none so that explains that - so it looks like those will do the job. Of course I never thought of looking at the other side to see what type of screws are in there 🙄 I'll check them in the morning and see whats there 🙂

  28. is there any colour in the water ??? if there is it may be the rear washer pipe has started to leak . if not look by the rear lights and the vents in the boot.

  29. The 60k service is £475. If you haven’t hit that mileage then it should be cheaper as there is less to do. Not sure about the leak. Could put the seat down and get in the car while someone sprays the outside with a hose? Hopefully warranty will cover it.

  30. Can't help with the leak, but servicing/mot seems a little pricey. My dealer charges £39 for MOT.

  32. If you're local to me then I would only go to the main dealer as a last hope. Go to Ribble View Garage, 2A Rough Hey Rd, (that industrial estate opposite the Crematorium) Preston PR2 5AR - phone 01772 798856. It's run by a guy called John Barton who really knows his stuff. He's a great worker, very fairly priced and highly recommended.

Can't believe what a difference there is between the car I remember test driving and this new 2019 MY version... Now to learn what all the bits do!

  35. The new Lexus arrived yesterday and I decided to share my first impressions. I ordered the basic Lexus IS300h with comfort pack in black metalic. The car came with the standard features including Tahara Seats, keyless entry and rearview camera. On the outside the car looks great and I definitely prefer it to the Mercedes C300h which in my opinion has started to look a bit outdated. The interior is also much nicer and the quality of the materials used in the Lexus are far more superior. I never liked the tablet style display on the Mercedes so the built in screen was a welcoming feature. The seats are rely comfortable and the synthetic Tahara leather feels really nice to the touch, time will tell if this will last. I love the clock which in the evening has really nice background glow. The drive is very different to the previous car, the Lexus feels heavier but more solid and stable on the road. The Mercedes was quicker when accelerating but also the diesel was making it very noisy when accelerating quickly. The Lexus has a complexity different style of accelerating, it seems slower but I think this is only because of the ‭CVT gearbox and the way the engine works under heavy load. The steering is also bit heavier, it feels the same as the Merc when switch to Sport+ mode, I did like the lighter steer in Eco or Comfort when parking but I think I will get used to it. I can’t comment on the stanav and the stereo yet but it looks and sounds ok. I don’t think the satnav can beat my phone though (I use Waze on my journeys) but at least it can offer some alternitve options when needed and it is very similar to the one in the Merc. I liked the way the Mercedes had their software, it was simple and quick to navigate from one screen to another, what I saw in the Lexus was not that far off but i will need some time to work it all out. The rear space looks similar and the booth in my opinion is better, I think it might be a bit bigger but I will find out later in the week. In the Mercedes the floor was slightly raised and sloping at the back so I had to constantly rearange the luggage as it kept moving around. In the Lexus the floor is flat and it looks like it will be easier to stack suitcases there. One thing I noticed in the merc was the top of the boot area was left with bare metal and few cables were stuck and clipped to the surface, where in the Lexus everything is padded and better protected. Overal I think I made the right choice, the Lexus is slightly better car in my opinion and I think it is better built and has few more features than the merc. There are bits which I will miss from the Mercedes like the 360 camera, break hold function, automatic electric hand break, auto folding mirrors when locking the car, lighter steering, sunglasses compartment, the little horn noise when looking the car, electric booth opening and closing and the kick open function (btw I had to have the motor replaced in the merc as it stopped working and would’ve cost £1000). I suppose I need to mention that the cost of the Merc was around £40k and the Lexus IS only £33k so if you go for the higher spec model all these features probably would’ve been included. The Mercedes went back today and after two years I managed to cover around 84k miles. The car overall was very reliable and never let me down, I had the booth repaired (as I mentioned it would’ve cost around £1k if it wasn’t under warrant), few sensors failed, and the suspension started to get a bit noisy when going over bumps in the last 6 months. The stereo was also a bit temperamental and sometimes would freeze and will need a reboot. The fuel consumption also dropped over the two years from 70mpg in the first year to 55mpg in the last 8 months. It is worth mentioning that I only had to replace the rear tyres once and the front were still the original with around 3mm left. I have to make few trips in the next week and hopefully will get some more idea on how it all compares and especially what the fuel consumption is as this was also a big factor when I was choosing the car. I hope all this helps, feel free to ask if you have any questions about the merc or the new Lexus.

  36. I had a damaged wheel which I had replaced today with another, 2nd hand but better one sourced from eBay. It came with the TPMS sensor still attached and Lexus have swapped it for me as easier than recoding the sensor to the car. So I now have a spare sensor and a spare wheel! In case anyone was curious what they looked like or details on them, here it is. Looks completely non serviceable. Battery is sealed in.

  38. Sorry to say my friend but it's showing the same symptoms as mine when the head gasket failed. Luckily for me I have a mechanic mate who fitted me a new gasket for £450 but your looking at around £600-£700 at an indy garage and a couple of grand if you go to lexus. Don't meen to sound harsh but geting rid of the diesel for the 250 is the best thing I've ever done.
