  3. Hi I also have this problem it annoyed me for ages and I can't find an answer so similar to Steves solution I removed the bulb and said the fuse had blown due to excessive use ,that was over 2 years ago so long forgotten😃

  4. Perhaps take the bulb out and tell her it’s going to cost thousands to fix it at Lexus 😀

  6. Update: managed to get the issue sorted. Seller covered the costs too! it was indeed the sensor, in the future if anyone has the issue it’s this one in the photo attached ( the mechanic was confused exactly which sensor it was but the diagram helped) only thing now is I think the mpg has taken a slight hit, or maybe I’m being paranoid either way, I am thinking of counting my losses and getting rid of it and getting a 400h instead as it’s a hybrid thanks again for everyone’s help!

  7. I am really impressed with how brilliantly members have pitched in to help Adam (OP). Hope you get it sorted, Adam, but whatever the result, at least you've proved where to come for advice! Thank you everyone! 😁

  8. Hello, After driving very carefully over the last 2000 miles have managed to achieve 51.6 miles per gallon average. This compares with the Winter low of 46.5 mpg. Just curious as to the results other UX owners are/have achieved. thanks for your replies.

  9. Evening, I've been signed up for quite awhile now and have wanted to buy an ISF multiple times but it's never worked out. A very nice one popped up at a local classic/ prestige sales place owned by a friend of a friend. He'd invited me over to have a look and no pressure, not many seem to venture up north so he'd suggested I take advantage to at least have a look around one in person at last! Before I knew it I was out for a test drive and then discussing a deal for my current car ( a Golf R Estate) This all happened very quickly, I went from being happy with my golf to owning the ISF in a day! First proper drive out was my favourite 110 mile loop in the North Pennines which I tend to do quite often in my second car, an old BMW. Really impressed, I don't agree with the write ups on them about the suspension being harsh and not well damped, which most seem to say! The roads in the north Pennines are a good test for compliant suspension, my golf wasn't great at speed over continuous bumps but the Lexus ate them up! Great fun! Ill get a couple of snaps up from the drive when I can. Looking forward to reading more of the forum (and trying to ignore the threads with large expensive problems!) Thanks, Scott

  10. I've had idling issues and the cutting out issue on my 1996 LS400 Mk3 more or less since I bought the cat in Oct last year which I think I've now solved. I have posted regarding this on other posts but thought I would put it all together and it may help other owners with the same or similar issue. Cutting out issue after a decent run and stopping: When I first experienced this issue I did some research and the general feeling was that it is caused by the ECU capacitor issue so I duly ordered the capacitors and removed the ECU to replace them. After examining the ECU I couldn't find any traces of leaking capacitors or 'doming' on them, ECU looked pristine so put the ECU back in the car. I'm not saying the capacitors are 100% ok (see further information below) but decided not to fit them. I decided instead to purchase a second hand ECU, replace the capacitors and fit it to the car. That way I wouldn't end up with a knackered ECU and not being able to run the car if I screwed up. I couldn't obtain the exact ECU but did obtain an updated version that is ok for my car (I also posted about this regarding ECU compatibility). I examined this updated ECU and it was also pristine and as new so didn't replace the capacitors and didn't fit to the car at this point. Erratic idling sometimes well over 1000 revs, engine revving by itself at low speeds and driving the car forward when it shouldn't: I stumbled upon a post on a USA forum regarding the 'ECM/ECU Coolant Temp Sensor' causing excessive fuel consumption and idling issues (I did a post about this) so I have replaced the sensor. But at the time I replaced the sensor the aircon compressor had just packed in. After I replaced the sensor the idle was immediately spot on at 600rpm and wasn't erratic at all, also the car didn't cut out after a decent run and stopping. All good for a few weeks (aircon still not fixed). Great result and gave myself a pat on the back🙂 But after I fixed the aircon the erratic idling came back with the same symptoms and maybe a bit worse, I reset the ECU and it was fine for a few days but came back again. After putting up with it for a few weeks I decided to fit the updated ECU to the car - 1. to see if it actually worked and was ok with my car and 2. to see if it made any difference to the idle (being an updated newer ECU). I was pleasantly surprised to find that it did actually work on my car as Lexus said it would and the idle is much much better, idle isn't 100% rock solid as before because the aircon is kicking in and out etc but I think it is 'as it should be'. Based on the above my conclusion is that the cutting out issue on my car was solved by replacing the 'ECM/ECU Coolant Temp Sensor'. I'm reasonably sure the erratic idling was solved by replacing the 'ECM/ECU Coolant Temp Sensor' as well or a least when not using the aircon. Replacing the ECU with the updated newer one I bought definitely solved the erratic idling etc after I fixed the aircon, either the capacitors were starting to fail in the original ECU or just fitting a newer updated ECU solved it or maybe the combination of a new 'ECM/ECU Coolant Temp Sensor' and a newer updated ECU solved it all. I hope all that makes sense and will maybe help someone else with the same issues because the erratic idling and cutting out is very annoying ....................

  11. Check another thread about MK IV as most of the checks will be the same. MK III got extra weak points: - shock absorbers - I've seen some info about leaking exhaust - sized rear calippers Audio streaming showed up after facelift in 2010 - the ones without deck player 🙂

  13. I've got no real problem with it either, I just don't understand it. Back in 1975 when I passed my driving test there was a fair bit of snow later and I went on a car park and did something like 'drifting' as a way of teaching myself how the car skids, how it handles in a skid, what to do to get out of it and so on - but that was educational, useful and informative. Why anyone would get excited about making their car go in circles just for the sake of it is just not in my sphere of comprehension. Even worse are people who get excited by just watching someone else make their car go round in circles. But hey, as we've said, whatever floats someone's boat is fine as long as it's not illegal. I'll get me coat

  14. I think I will do just that, i calculated if I sell my car and buy an rx400 I’ll end up paying an extra £1500 ish. I just thought paying that would be worth it but I doubt I’ll make the savings with the mpg.

  15. What sort of mileage would you be putting on car in next 2 years and apart from accepting depreciation due to age and mileage, would you be able to fund repairs and wear and tear, the cost of which is rather unquantifyable? The present issues don't seem to be major. Breakers could be useful at some stage as Lexus parts are expensive, particularly so when compared with the value of an old car.

  16. Avoid book pricing for any F models right now! F models are moving. A GSF came up for sale last week at 25k, it was criminally under priced, within an hour of the listing going live I made contact with the dealer and suggested 35k, he ammended the listing to 30k, 2 days later, gone! You have not specified the year on yours, however, based upon your profile I will take it as a 2015 model. There is a none carbon edition, 2015, white, 30,000 with none oem wheels model up for just shy of 30! 34-37k should be about right for your model. Considering the major service and MOT, I would suggets 37 and see what offers come in.

  17. Sadly, the mechanic was unsuccessful in repairing the compressor. He hasn't talked much about it but I think it's to do with too much corrosion inside. He is now trying to source a second hand compressor for me and will ring me with updates. Crazy thing about it is, he still hasn't charged me for any of the work that he has done so far(1 day and a half).

  18. MPG in hybrids are very sensitive to weather extreme conditions, in my experience the best MPG are in middle season weather, where there is no need for air conditioning, HV battery works at ideal temperature and thermal engine reaches relatively fast its working conditions; between winter and summer winter is worse, may be that in warmer climate zones the results are slightly different, as I am considering summer season with temperature over 30° C (and consequently AC on) and winter just around 0° C. Generally speaking, I found best results driving with dry weather at about 22° C. Another great difference is the lenght of journey, as short ones need to warm up thermal engine more time s and in this phase is used much more gasoline (it is the same for traditional cars too).

  20. If it's judder when braking, I would check the brake sliders, calipers and pistons first. If there is some play in the rack you should be able to feel it with the car stood still. When the reluctor rings go you usually can tell from braking at very slow speeds, as the abs 'clicks' rapidly as you press the pedal.

  22. It's not just UX owners; I think most models have a slightly worse fuel consumption through the winter. Extra heating, demisting/air con (and heated seats in some cases), all add to increased energy consumption. As an aside, have any other Lexus owners noticed a change (improvement) in fuel consumption, once a new engine has been "run in", e.g. done 3-4K miles? My ES has improved by some 3-5% once I went past 3K miles. Is the ECU leaning off the mixture a little maybe?

  23. This is what I would do: 1) Get an independent trusted qualified technician to provide an opinion on the appropriate way to correct the situation 2) If their opinion is anything other than a complete system replacement, get a second opinion If two qualified techs agree that it can be done without replacing the entire system, go ahead but as John said insist on some kind of parts+labour written warranty for the compressor. Otherwise, full system. Imagine how galling it would be if you agree to let them go the cheaper route and have the compressor fail two and a half years down the line. They'll be able to claim that it was unrelated and you'll be left out of pocket.

  24. Be careful buying something that significant very cheaply. Sometimes the cheapest way out is the most expensive way in.

  25. Headlight lamps ( not bulbs....."bulbs grow & lamps glow! ) have been discussed numerous times and the Osrsm Nightbreakers keep getting talked about ( do a search as I personally am happy with my headlight performance as I seldom drive at night and have not changed mine ) As for the speaker situation then any speakers you intend fitted must match the spec of the ones fitted already, I have got a ML system and I know they use a non standard impedance size which if not allowed for could damage the amplifier(s). paul m.

  28. Switch the radio on to the FM. At the bottom of the screen, below the cd slot, press TA button to go to TP, again to go to TA and again to go to OFF. TP, the system switches to traffic information when a broadcast with traffic information signal is received. TA, traffic information can be heard only when a signal is received. Chris.

  29. Correct. Obviously it doesn't hurt to refresh the ATF every few years but no need to do it at the same time. No. Certainly doesn't need a Lexus mechanic to do it. Just make sure the correct Toyota fluids are used and not alternatives, especially for the ATF.

  31. Hi Just looking into a similar problem of juddering at 70mph when breaking, could be ABS sensor worn or reluctor ring wear? See this thread from Lexus-World https://forum.lexusownersclub.com/threads/abs-sensor-advice.2695/

  32. I see Rockauto has a rebuilt rack for less than £200, although that would include Vat and shipping, plus the old one would need returning to them, it may still be worth checking though.

  34. Really been looking forwards to see what Lexus can do on the EV front. The UXe is clearly a first gen EV product, with a 50kWh battery there is no way it'll do 250 miles, even 200 miles will be a struggle for it. But that will change with the next EV Lexus brings to market - hopefully with a bespoke EV platform. Our Tesla has needed this list of things fixing at 2 year old car and 30k. 1: Drivers side A pillar rebuilt 2: New sun visors 3: New steering wheel 4: New door latches FWD 5: New door motor passenger side 6: New rear hatch latch 7: New FWD sensors 8: New drivers seat 9: New front suspension links 10: New front drive shafts 11: New key fobs 12: New MCU screen 13: UV treatment for new MCU screen. In addition, the driver door latch got stuck a few weeks ago and I couldn't close the door, and the front lower suspension links is now making a knocking noise!! In contrast our IS300H has been faultless at nearly 5 years old, and if you open the bonnet its looks still brand new but just a covering of dust you would expect if you leave anything uncleaned for 5 years!! We did have a Model 3 on order but cancelled it, am glad to see Lexus has finally joined the EV movement. We're happy to wait another few years and see how Lexus EVs develop, our IS300H will am sure go on and on and on, so no worries not that front with no rush to replace it.

  35. Just as a warning to others. Well aware of the cat theft issues with these cars. Been parking on my driveway for months which is gravel and close to the house. Last night Mrs was on drive so I parked in front of the house. 10:30 at night hear a buzz saw, I immediately knew what was happening so ran outside with a baseball bat to be confronted by large chap with a machete. Would have obviously loved to give him some but fortunately sense prevailed. Within 3mins they were gone. I will not be replacing the secondary cat much to the dismay of every left wing environmentalist out there. I've bought Jetex pipe and kit from Merlin Motorsports and will (fortunate to have a MIG in the garage) weld it up this weekend. After a chat with the MOT center I use their wording was "if we can't see it we can't test it" So a temporary sheet metal cover so sort the visual inspection. The cover will be removed in the hope that the next thief will use 1 of their 3 brain cells before cutting. I guess the warning here is that these guys are potentially armed and violent so be careful, for me a cat wasn't worth a hospital trip. Good luck.
