  1. Lower one of the back seats and climb into the bootspace. Take a torch and small screwdriver. In the centre of the tailgate, just above the lock there is a small panel that you can prise out using the screwdriver. Reach in here with a finger and you can slide the mechanism sideways to release the tailgate. Take a piece of 2x1 timber in too, slide this under the open tailgate otherwise it will close while you clamber out again.

  2. Well I think my partner and I have really caught the Lexus bug! After getting our LC500h in May we've already traded it in against a beautiful Sonic Red V8! I can't knock the hybrid, it is exceptionally good for what it is, no issues at all with performance or economy, but of course it lacks that amazing V8 noise which you can only appreciate in person. Also the Sonic Red colour is just incredible!

  3. Just got my GSF back from its 6 year service, at bang on 50k miles. Plugs changed and some other niggles sorted, including the TPMS that Kwik fit messed (being polite here) up. Cracking customer service from Lexus Newcastle as ever. Picked up, dropped off good communication, and they did exactly what they were asked to do. Ready for another year, with a warranty, and no stress. will be a cracking car for the next owner!!

  4. Welcome to a ‘not very exclusive exLR owners club’ My RRS wasn’t too bad but the Discovery Sport was so bad that we successfully rejected it for a full refund after 16 months. We then purchased an RX, which was superior to the RRS in every way, and after 5 years with the RX changed to an NX 450h

  5. Hi Phil H Welcome to Lexus Owners Club and for help you have come to the right place! If you are buying from a Lexus dealer or an independent garage you would, of course have some comeback depending on the problem. If you don't feel confident to appraise the vehicle you are looking at then perhaps using the AA or an independent inspector would be a wise move. You could ask the seller if they would mind if the nearest Lexus dealership did a healthcheck before you make a decision. Many people believe that a full Lexus service history is a must to ensure its pedigree. I reckon it is certainly desirable but a strong regular history shows its been looked after. You could also consider are its tyres all the same reputable brand, also is there a sticker or entry in the service book which confirms its had cambelt change. Checks like, are all dash warning lights working and do they all go out when it is started up. Check the roof operation to affirm the mechanism and all the motors are working correctly. Look for signs of water ingress into the passenger cabin or boot. Does the sat nav and head unit all work properly. Corrosion can also be an issue depending how it has been used and looked after Despite all the above, they are a fantastic car and I have enjoyed every minute I have owned one! Kind regards, Anthony

  6. The solenoid is highlighted, the button is to the right and of course being Lexus there is also a shift lock solenoid computer at the rear of it. Normally a combination of dust, crud and carpet fluff causes issues, access is tight but a paint brush and vacuum would be the starting point for a clean out after removing the wood trim. ( use a wallpaper scraper with a layer of electrical insulation tape to prise it up at the rear sides).

  7. Totally agree. It’s isn’t that many years ago that, after an election, the majority of people would get behind the winning candidate (or decision) or at the very least wish them well as success is good for everybody. Things have changed, and not for the better. Now, the ‘losing’ side (in an election or almost any subject or question) seem to actively want the ‘winner’ to fail in order to prove they were right all along. The ‘winners’ can never accept things aren’t as brilliant as they hoped, and they become similarly entrenched. Disagree and debate by all means, but this deliberate antagonism and hate has to stop. It won’t of course, as the internet age has made it almost the default position. Sigh.

  10. Recommend the Denso hybrids, eurocarparts or carparts4less used to sell them and you'd get a good deal when a discount offer was on (about 90percent of the year) It looks like they may not be supplying them any more? Not sure why not as they have done them for years. Part references from memory are DU-060R (600mm for drivers side) and DU-045R (450mm for passenger side) Do check though.

  11. I had Lexus fit new wiper blades some 4 years ago at a service (they are branded Toyota Optifit) - they have been excellent over all that time (and some 60k miles in all sorts of weather). Just starting to think about fitting new ones now as they are starting to judder a little bit and will definitely go OEM again - excellent value for money IMHO.

  12. Bought from Lexus OEM blades, almost 1 year now and still OK, no noise, cleaning the windows. Not really that expensive. A new windshield is expensive.

  17. Each time the 12V battery is allowed to go flat it sustains a small amount of damage that lowers its capacity and the amount of time it stays flat also contributes to this. As a random example, if it used to take a full 100% charge it may now only take 80%. Depending on the age of the battery and how often this has happened, it may be time to replace it. However, it's worth a try with a good battery charger first, before you spend any money. I would give it a full 24 hours on charge, or at the very least, overnight (NB - as long as you have a modern 'intelligent' charger and not some 40 year old transformer-based thing) and see if that helps. If not, then it's time for a new one.

  20. Never seen this issue reported on LOC before so isn't a common issue. It does sound like bad wiring or solder joint on the headunit, and if it is temperature related then I'd expect it to get worse as winter closes in. When it occurs again try resetting the system by holding the audio power button in for 8 seconds to see if that brings it to life earlier than just leaving it to do its own thing. It is safe to do this whilst driving. This isn't the problem I'd expect with a low battery but you should rule it out by measuring the battery voltage after the vehicle has been left overnight and hasn't been put into Ready mode yet. Anything below 12.2 v would be cause for concern, and would be worth fully charging it up with an external battery charger. It also won't hurt to disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes to reset everything but isn't normally something that needs to be done, and you will need to reinitialise the power door, windows etc so the auto functions work correctly.

  21. In the comparison sites you can also try changing your job description (obviously don't lie but sometimes the same job can be described in different ways) and whether you park on road, secure parking, drive or garage (assuming you have any choice with this) as these can also make some difference to the premiums charged. Similarly where ithe car is parked during the day (again if you have any flexibility there).

  23. Yes, will do so. Not that young but my 10 years of driving in India does not count here. And when I moved to UK in ,my first 6 years in London never provoked me to get a license as commute was good and never felt the need to buy a car in city. Outside London is a whole different world 🙂

  24. As an aside, I routinely set the cruise on the IS250 — a crude control by today's standards. When I borrowed a UX with ACC, it was apparent how much greater the programmed stand-off distance from the vehicle in front was than my own habitual visual assessment — the car would back off long before I would do. Driver can vary that distance using the ACC settings, but it was an interesting lesson in how one's own habits may fall short of best practice.

  25. I have opinion of truck overtaking as well, but to be fair this is completely different topic which deserves it's own thread. The only other thing I wanted to say - the unconscious zombies on motorways are obviously "mildly" annoying, but they are outright dangerous on country lanes when road opens-up for limited opportunity to overtake and the xxxxxbag you overtaking starts accelerating as well. I know it is already illegal to accelerate whilst being overtaken (that applies to all roads), but when it is done on single lane road I think it should be prosecuted same as attempted murder.

  28. You would need to have pretty thick skin to say everything since 2019 is a conspiracy Even the WC in Qatar, the Qatari organisers are paying fans from NL, England and I assume more countries air fare, tickets and credit cards pre-loaded with $$$ all gratis as long as they provide positive feedback on the event on social media forums AND report any unwanted tweets etc. Interest rates going up every month, really? The Bank of England, America, Australia it seems are all involved. This behaviour is rampant all over the last number of years, the government of the west pay off the eco nut jobs about net zero - its fact, whether you accept it or not is your problem. Reliable Combustion Engine cars manufactured since the 1800s do not disappear just like that without a crazy amount of intervention from governments. It doesn’t surprise me one bit because I know a) combustion engine cars are not the problem for greenhouse gases themselves - in England combustion cars account for less than 1% of global greenhouse gases b) EVs are damaging for the environment in terms of manufacturing c) the batteries weight a tonne, literally, and are difficulty to recycle d) the number of batteries to make the tens/hundreds of millions of planned EVs in the future will outstrip the available natural resources e) most of the charging uses fossil fuels anyway So saying they are the saviour for greenhouse gas is nonsense but I stopped listening to governments around the time they said diesel was good, I never did buy a diesel and never will. You probably have heard the Mark Twain quote It’s easier To fool people than To convince them that they’ve been fooled, well this is another of his beauties "There is nothing in the world like persuasive speech to fuddle the mental apparatus."

  29. I have a fairly eccentric Swiss friend who mixes E5 and E10 50/50 when he fills up his Morgan. When I enquired why he does this, his not unreasonable reply was that he gets a nice feeling from the thought that he is the only driver in the country using E7.5.

  30. That is likely to happen, because the Democrats are in the same position as the Republicans, they have no credible candidate to run against Trump. Biden was the only hope they had, they used it, and it failed. The Republicans, and the country, deserve a replacement who can make real changes and improvements, and not someone who will spend the next four years acting out his perceived grievances and resentments. Totally agree, all Americans deserve better. The world deserves better. That all said, currently Trump has the base, the support, and is likely to prove to be the winner. Time will tell, lets see how the picture looks after tomorrow. Wishing things looked different, will not change anything. Politics in the US is in terrible mess, that said, not much better in this Country. Perhaps the problem is the politicians we currently have.

  33. I think that is the only setting that would be related to this, but I think this stops it switching between a white or black background rather than the screen actually dimming. All I can suggest is to alter the brightness level when it is in dim mode - maybe it will remember the two different brightness levels. The other approach would be the change the auto sensitivity of the headlights so they don't come on so easily if you just pass under a short bridge.

  39. EGR pipe not broken at all. Anyhow for the past 4 weeks spent time on the little things. Courtesy lamps inside foot wells and door cards, getting seats in shape, using the best of both colours schemes to get the finish im looking for. Also had some electrical issues with the cooling fans constantly on. turned out to be faulty relays in fuse box 2 under the bonnet, and fuse box 3 behind bumper left hand side. There were four (4) of them so I replaced the lot. All sorted now. This week I'll be getting round to buy them body paint in preparation to get to work on the body. I suspect 3 coats of primer then colour. Mmm, what colour shall it be ? lolol.

  40. Here are a few updates pics of the build coming along which include new suspension, brake rotors, complete front end bushings and suspension components to name but a few. Motor was in bad shape so I changed out everything that looked suspect. There are before and after shots to compare notes. Trans is an A341E so that got a rebuild too, not by me. Includes newer interior going back in with refreshed dash cluster and HVAC for centre console. The last 3 pics is the drive-train back in the car. The biggest headache has been the engine wiring loom. That took near 25 new connectors. Did them all myself. More to come.

  41. What a minefield! That pesky prostate gland. In 2018 I had backache, kept asking for a PSA test. It was 8/12. After a colonoscopy PC was found in the prostate, it hadn’t escaped. I was lucky to be put on trial at the Marsden Fulham. I received the Cyberknife treatment over 5 days. 5/40 minute sessions. August 2022 PSA 0.17. Let’s bring on the blood tests etc, just like breast and bowel. We shouldn’t have to wait for symptoms. My backache was purely muscular. I had NO other symptoms. Peniole keep up the good work. Piers, all the best.

  43. Not sure Malc if there are a lot of them around on the LOC, really interested in knowing this, Anyone? And if there are how many of them will dive into a high quality read about prostate issues? Statistics statistics. Anyway an incredibly interesting thread and i have learned more about my enlarged prostate than in talks with my GP. Again it shows the versatility and deep level of knowledge of the LOC and its members.

  44. Hi Herbs, I am sorry that PCa was responsible for the loss of your BIL. When this happens it certainly brings home what could happen to us males. Home PSA kits serve a purpose but ideally NHS test at local surgery best as they generally use same lab. Having said that, PSA can vary for a number of reasons and you shouldn't have s*x, ride a bicycle or do anything really energetic for 24 hours prior to taking the sample or avoid if you have a UTI. 47 cores sounds too many for the TRUS which I can tell you stings like being flicked by a rubber band when each sample is taken. He probably had a Transperineal template which is better with less risk of infection, under a spinal block (Epidural) instead of GA. With fewer cores and fusion it can now be by deep sedation which I found OK if embarrassing! As regards spread, sometimes the cancer cells are in concentrations so small that they can sometimes cannot be seen as they set up home in bone or tissue. They can also travel through the lymphatic system. Occasionally, they can form a tumour even as far as the Brain. This is then Prostate Cancer of the Brain. There is a brilliant talk by Dr Eugene Kwon of Mayo who covers this on his talk about Oligo Metastases . It still holds up well today although the C11 Pet scan he favors would probably be bettered by a later scan today such as the 68 Gallium PSMA. Anyway, here is a link if anyone is interested. Thank you for your reply. I was aware of the comparatively recent research on helping to establish men more likely to have PCa and of course the need for a better test to replace initial PSA, the drawbacks of which you refer to. I am surprised that more progress has not been made in this area (although likely more challenging). By comparison, new and refined ways of treating have made great advances. So, I am somewhat surprised that so much credence is now being placed on the simple DRE, something I had in 2007 both by my GP and at urology but it raised no suspicion. Thank goodness I also had a PSA test of 17.6 that rang bells and with a T3A staging was glad my GP added PSA test when checked for something else, although I had no symptoms of PCa. With your long involvement in the area, you may remember 'The Great PSA Debate' that took place on 10th November 2009 with the likes of Sir Roger Kirby and Dr Chris Parker of the Royal Marsden, (the latter one of my consultants),. on opposing sides with others for a motion at a great gathering of assembled, clinicians, and interested bodies and lay people. The main motion was that every man at risk of PCa (meaning men over 50, 40 with additional risk), should be encouraged to monitor his PSA on an annual basis. The motion was passed by a large majority but never accepted into practise. Actually, having been diagnosed, my interest like most others on the Prostate Cancer UK and an American forum I am member of, is more concerned with post initial diagnosis and treatments. To this end, I did very extensive research meeting some highly regarded Consultants in the UK and Germany. This also involved reading medical papers, even from Japan, watching lectures and looking for trials in UK and Abroad. I will not go too deeply into this as it may be found to be boring. Suffice to say, knowing how badly men suffer from PCa, I wanted to make men aware of the disease and a chance of early treatment if they accept the risks.

  45. I used Poly bushes on a Soarer a long time ago and they were great for a year but then needed to be replaced so I didn't ever go back to them. Interested in what your results are like many years later. Figs Engineering are very good. 👍

  46. Yes superpro poly bushes on the two lower suspension arms and standard rubber on the upper "A" arms. The bushes I removed were all perfectly serviceable but I wanted a bit more precision to make the most of the other changes. I'm still experimenting with the suspension settings and ride height.

  47. I have now rebuilt the entire front suspension with superpro bushes and figs ball joints/new steering arms etc. Had it all aligned/set up...massive improvement over stock but I will go for higher profile tyres (35) when I change them as 30,s are too harsh.

  48. Fitted the Cusco strut bar as the final part of the suspension upgrade - it makes a very noticeable difference. The front end feels much more precise - well worth the cost. Bought from Nengun Performance Japan.

  49. I have found a Cusco Strut Tower Brace model number 188 540 A for about £200 delivered which although not cheap at least is available and not £500 for a solid Toms version. My question is has anyone got one of these and are they worth having? If it only reduced scuttle shake with the roof down I'd consider it worthwhile. Or should I hold out for finding a solid unhinged bar?
    1 point
  50. I have finally completed the suspension upgrade after the rear ARB arrived from Japan yesterday (£103 delivered compared to £228 from Lexus UK). Installing it was probably the easiest part of the conversion. The two chassis bars that bolt to the centre of the chassis behind the diff need to be unbolted and the bar will then pull out easily. I bought some universal poly bushes but found they did not fit so for now have reused the old ones which work fine. When installing the new ARB the best order is to bolt the new drop links to the bar then position the bar but don't clamp it to the chassis. Encourage (carefully with a hammer) the drop links to sit inside the lower arm and bolt them up. Then bolt the ARB to the chassis. It now handles soooo much better and really transforms the car. This must be the best and most cost effective upgrade for an SC.
