  1. @Oscar (The Grouch) Very good how observant you, yep the Silver car goes with the silver hair and of course hand in hand with my silver tongue ๐Ÿ˜Š And for you delight here is a pic of mine the day I picked her up, just to wet the appetite for your impending collection > Big Rat

  2. Well it seems the boys in blue are kitting up ready for us. They are bringing in new speed vans and V8 Mustangs to chase us down by the transporter load @Rusty Crobar have you been misbehaving ๐Ÿ˜‚ Big Rat

  3. So, back on topic ( @Big Rat ๐Ÿ˜‚)... The O2 sensors are actually in the car, under the centre console so no chance of them being damaged. Mr mechanic checked the fuse which was fine, and when he put it back in the problem was fixed! Can't believe you lot wasting money on warrantys, these cars are Rusty proof ๐Ÿ˜‚ Back to more boring drivel and arguing about how good the RCF is then... ๐Ÿ˜‰

  4. I've been looking into this, got quoted the same ยฃ895 for one year and they will give me another for year for free. You can get a full 2 years even if your car is 9yrs 11 months old on the day you take out the policy

  6. Touch wood I haven't used the breakdown cover but looked through the booklet and happy to discover it also covers my dearest wife for travelling in her car or me in her car . I reckon saves about ยฃ100 a year for decent joint cover so warranty only ยฃ347.50 per year . I haven't claimed off warranty yet either but only had it for 2 months . Timed it so I can renew for 2 years just before it is 10 years old .

  11. Yes you can, IS220d, IS250 and IS-F all have same headlights. The difference is however whenever you have HIDs or Halogens. HIDs will have ASF and that won't work on aftermarket lights and you will have AFS warning light on dash. Generally, I would not advise change HID to aftermarket lights because you will run into issues and aftermarket lights will be effectively worse. If you have basic Halogens then it should be fine.

  15. That makes sense. The warranty doesn't differ in price whether your vehicle is 3 years old or 10 but one would think that, statistically speaking, it represents much better value during those final years in which it's offered. The point I was trying to make earlier with regards to a potential buyer is that, given the choice next year between a ยฃ15000 2008 that you cannot purchase a warranty for or an ยฃ18000 2009 that you can, you could not dismiss someone as crazy for choosing the 2008 and putting ยฃ3000 (plus the ยฃ895 cost of the warranty) aside as a sinking fund for potential repairs - to which you could add your further ยฃ895 every 2 years. My thoughts are that, if a potential purchaser sees a Lexus warranty as a must-have for their IS-F, then they should seriously consider looking elsewhere unless they expect their ownership period for a 2010 model not to exceed 3 years, a 2011 model not to exceed 4 years and so on. On another note, that 2009 model with 45,000 miles seems a good bargain at ยฃ17,990. It was up at ยฃ21,995, dropped to ยฃ19,995 and now to its current price.

  17. In a previous thread on this topic in the IS Forum (see Premium Fuel, started by mpls, 19 November 2015), the consensus was that the benefits of higher-octane fuel are minimal or non-existent. My own opinion with regard to the IS300h was that "I used to think that Shell V-Power or similar brands of high-octane fuel might yield a combination of better economy and performance but have never found objective proof of it...." I mainly based this conclusion on comparisons of non-stop drives of approx. 900km over exactly the same route with tankfuls of RON95 or RON98 V-Power. After hoping to get a few extra km with the latter, I had recently been disappointed - though not especially surprised - to find myself pulling in to the same services as I customarily did with RON95 after the appearance of the fuel-reserve warning some 15-20km earlier. I thus concluded that higher-octane fuel was not worth its premium price. And nor, in more normal motoring situations over the years, had I ever been able to detect significant improvements in punch and acceleration in any car, including the IS's non-hybrid predecessors, attributable to the use of V-Power or any of several other brands of RON98> fuels. However, on one other occasion since then (actually on the same route but in the opposite direction), I got a much better result which, if I manage to duplicate it later this year (with due allowance for the fact that I will be driving an RC and not a somewhat more economic IS), may cause me to revise my opinion. Instead of starting out with the usual tankful of RON95, I this time filled up with V-Power and, to my surprise, not only proceeded past the services where I expected to stop but finally saw an increase in range of close to 7%. My reason for choosing V-Power despite my earlier thinking was that Shell in Denmark, where I filled up for the journey, were running a campaign promising it gave you "up to 3% more km". This was in itself no big deal but it impressed me because I had never before seen an oil company make so specifically and precisely quantified a claim for its fuel - or, as it turned out, such a conservative one. I can offer no explanation for this event since I recall no great variations from previous drives in terms of weather, traffic, roadworks, queues, amount of luggage etc. Maybe Shell uses some particularly miraculous additive for the Scandinavian market, but I have found no online mention of it.

  18. Could that be a slight hint to age there Paul when you have the temperature set to Fahrenheit on the dash? not that I would ever want to take down a fellow "F" owner especially not one with the faster silver version, the others all secretly want one!!!

  19. Chances are, the warranty wouldn't be needed but it's the potential ยฃ3-4k + bills, like Flytvr had, which would really hurt. As you say, it would tarnish the ownership experience. With the warranty, it's giving me the "new car peace of mind" feeling which I like.

  29. This is absolutely BS, there is no way on this planet a head unit will cost ยฃ8K on something like a IS. The huge 17inch touch screen on our Tesla cost ยฃ3.5K to replace out of warranty direct from Tesla. What on earth were they doing stripping a car they had sold/selling for parts when they can just order the part from Lexus. You bought a car in good faith, it's under warranty, it's up to the dealer to sort out what ever mess they have created.

  30. When I extended my warranty in January I had 6 weeks left to run so they postdated it to start when the current one ran out. Considering they keep doing warranty deals I wonder what's stopping you from just buying several at the same time and let them run one after the other. Is that all C63s or just the 6.2l NA one? Any idea how RS4s do?

  31. You can check that yourself by going on Menu, Display (right hand top corner) and then turn headlight on and see if "Daylight mode" is still lit up. If it is turn it off. This will control the screen only and not the other buttons Id be pretty surprised if they checked everything - some of them don't know about how simple features work.

  32. I too would recommend the 450h, which is very refined. The 300h is a good car, but cannot compete from a performance perspective. MPG wise, not a huge difference because the 300h will make you pay for the performance you are looking for, whereas the 450h will take it in its stride. the F Sport has better and more sporty looks and offer colour combinations not available with other models. On the other hand, the Premier has ALL the toys... but is more expensive. As well as Autotrader, you should check the Lexus website. Cars may be a little more expensive, but Lexus dealers tend to only keep the best on their forecourts. For peace of mind, the warranty offered by Lexus dealers is excellent.

  37. There's always something. More than any other model of cars I bought over the years the LS400s I've looked all have had something reasonably significant wrong with them (usually multiple suspension issues.) I'm hunting around for a burgundy rear passenger door to replace the awful one on mine which is bothering me more and more; such a bad repair letting the car down. Fortunately, the mechanicals are great and no suspension issues. Guess I'll be paying for my panel man's Christmas.

  38. @ronaldo It's all down to personal preferences really as long as knock sensors are fitted, which they are then just plant your foot down harder for the extra performance on the lesser fuel๐Ÿ˜ Any way it's a petrol engine so they all ' Suck Squeeze, Bang and Blow' ! Big Rat

  39. well, obviously the glare from the garish, sales rep silver paint slows them down, whereas a nice, subtle, cadoxtan slate colour blends in with the scenery more and is therefore faster.... I've had an indicated 165 on the autobahn and it was still going, unfortunately I've not managed to find enough clear road on trips to Germany to max it...

  41. I'm still debating what car to go for but, were I to go for the IS-F, I've been trying to decide between a newer model that I can put a warranty on or an older, cheaper, model. My conclusion, perhaps incorrectly, is that even with the budget for a newer model and the money for the two year warranty from lexus, I'm best going for the older model and setting the difference aside for issues, should they arise. If warranty is your main reason for upgrading, would similar logic apply - or are you looking for the others perks, such as slightly softer suspension, too?

  42. Having had a Prius, and belonging to the Prius forum it was proved long ago that accelerating briskly up to speed, and then easing off got better MPG than gently gathering speed over a longer distance. It is quite possible this principle also applies to the GS450H. John.

  43. On the contrary...it's a great idea....unless you want to crawl home at 20 mph. Cleaning the EGR is like changing the oil filter...necessary maintenance! The idea it works for a couple of days is I have to say very very far fetched in my experience. By the way what do you mean when you say cleaning?....do you mean a fuel additive? or taking it out and cleaning it with carburetor cleaner and a toothbrush meticulously? I do the latter and never had an issue after I got caught in crawl home mode the first time....9 years ago...same car.
