  1. Rather than blowing all your cash buying an IS-F and fitting 220d seats to it, why don't you keep your 220d(?) and stick an IS-F V8 in it. With all the similarities between the two cars, everyone will think it is an IS-F anyway. You'll probably need to change the speedo however - but maybe that's the same?

  4. Luckily, the whole IS range is practically identical so they could be retro fitted into an ISF!

  5. My old 2005 GS430 had them and they worked a treat. That was 8 yrs old when i bought it so i've certainly never experienced any issues with the cooling fans and that includes one of my previous RX450h's . Must admit i don't really miss them in the ISF but they were good for spreading trouser coughs around the car

  6. Lovely! I watched this recently. Doug DeMuro's videos are great, he chats about all the little details you'd only ever find out about if you owned the cars. Worth checking out some of his other stuff if you like this too.

  7. Hi All I thought I'd write my own thoughts around the car, having bought it around the middle of last year. The drop down, windows in, parking sensors, etc. Gets in the way of my knees, personally it would have been nice to locate it elsewhere, but it could be a space issue. Would also be good if the wing mirrors opened automatically at say 10mph? traction is very poor (i may drive too fast?) and handling is average, compared to the german counterparts. I have what I believe is a "common", if thats the right word for any fault with a lexus...problem with a door lock. basically it slips, so won't open (the car tries to open itself a few times, so you know just from listening if it's slipped. I need a new one, it's around £120 i think for the part, plus labour. I have a tear in the drivers seat (back not side bolster) - could quite easily be user error i think the seal in the sunroof has seen better days, and the rear door seals stick a little (nothing me pulling my finger out and lubricating won't fix) the boot confuses me, sometimes it opens sometimes it doesn't (thats separate from the sneaky button in the glovebox that locks it when all you're really looking for is a cd) Its fast. No one seems to know how fast, and it's under appreciated in that respect. Its comfortable, reliable (I do have a knock, but so far no one has been able to identify what it is), and nicely equipped, especially considering its an 11 year old car.

  10. My dash creaked a lot, and I've discovered it's fairly common. I bought some black rubber used in double glazing, just the right size for pushing between the dash and windscreen. It took one minute and the creak has gone!

  12. Hi all. Just to put my 2 pennies worth in. I was a proud owner off 3 jaguars before the Is and loved the first two both X-types i no not a XFR but to me they were brilliant cars servicing was dear parts were not cheap then i brought the XK4.2 lovely looking car admired from everybody BUT the costs after 10 months were crippling it had so many things wrong it was a money pit i had the alarm sorted twice but still kept going off not good when you do shift work as i do and get home at 10.30pm and lock car and wake all off your neighbours up. Dash board was a laugh sometimes rev counter worked sometimes it did not alas the list went on and on don't want to boar you with it all As i said the XK is not a XFR but shares many items especially electrics including dashboard. If you must buy one make sure you have plenty off money behind you as you will need it. This is the reason the XK went and i went to the dark side and brought the IS250 not a ISF but did not want one more refined and comfortable than the Jag and not so noisy pity the navigation is not so good but cannot have it all. 65mike

  13. I owned an S Type R for 2 years. I spent 3 times the original purchase price fixing and maintaining it. Comfy? Yes. Great to drive? Yes, but not like an M3 or ISF. Reliable. Absolutely not! I test it drove two XFR's before buying my ISF last year, one from the dealer that had supplied and maintained my STR. The service manager came out to see me after my test drive and when I asked him if I should buy the XFR he simply said "nothing has changed Mr Graham" . If you want to get one put the same amount aside to keep it on the road. Good luck!! P.S. isn't that your Dad's car?

  14. I have some more news on this no firm date as yet but it is going to be most probably the latter part of April, as regards location it has not yet been decided but will either be Coventry or Cheltenham. There will be a full range of 'F' cars and LC as well as most likely 'F' sport vehicles. One of the reasons for the uncertainties of the date is that they are trying to secure anniversary models of Gsf and Rcf which would be great. Now one major plus for us is that Tim Huxley the Dealer Principal at Lexus Cheltenham has secured the attendance of one of the LFA's , now they are usually in attendance at events as a static display but he will have the keys so at the very least we can all drool and dribble at THAT noise. Just as soon as I get more detailed information for date and location I will post it up. Big Rat

  15. 8 am she goes on the ramp and 20 mins later we have a new certificate. Offside Front suspension has slight play in a lower suspension ball joint (2.5.B.1a) Nearside Front position lamp(s) deteriorated, but still visible from a reasonable distance (1.1.A.3d) Front Tyre worn close to the legal limit (4.1.E.1) Some underside corrosion. How happy can car owning when you have a Lexus? Just 5000 miles in the last year. I must get those new tyres fitted now.

  16. I thought I know pretty much everything when it comes to IS mk2 options, but apparently there are still much to learn. Recently, I was slagging-off BMW M3 for not having ventilated seats (generally that is very rare on any BMW) "in comparison with IS-F" and argued with friend it would be the feature which I would greatly miss, or which I would potentially consider retrofitting if I would get one. I have completely missed that IS-F comes with only heated seats and there is no option of cooled seats. What is that - weight saving?! Seat cooling is just a fan.. what weights in the seats are the electronic adjustment, not cooling ... bizarre. Anyone have other thoughts? Looking at perforated leather I always wrongly assumed that they are cooled like in standard IS... I have once made this mistake when talking about F-Sport, but then I had excuse - F-sport I have had previously was EU spec. and had heated/cooled seats like any other IS, but UK spec. comes with those Alcantara seats (which I hate) and has no ventilation. I would never have thought that to be the case on IS-F as well:

  17. I prefer to cool the seat naturally using the ice from my old chest freezer, applied just before any hot summer drives.

  20. It's a pity they didn't fit a LSD to these cars. I think off the line traction would be much better. Also doesn't the car restrict full power to a certain speed? It really accelerates well when your already at motorway speed.

  21. Nope definatly depends who it is, we submariners are known for being dirty, horrible people. I was always told if your fist won't fit in it then it's too small (I'm taking about exhausts by the way!!)

  22. No after sales upgrades. Toyota/Lexus hardly ever have dormant features. If a feature isn't included then the sensors aren't in place and a completely different wiring loom is used without the wiring to the sensors. The only exception that I can think of on a Lexus in the last 15 years is the retrofit of cruise control to the CT200h because the wiring is in place and the ECU has the functionality. With regards to blind spot mirror, you would need: The glass with the indicator in it. The mirror connectors won't have space for the additional wiring, the wiring loom won't be in place from the mirror to the ECU, the mirror ECUs are different to standard with the extra functionality, the system works with microwave sensors on either side of the vehicle at the rear (behind the side of the rear bumper) so you need those as well and the wiring.

  23. There have been several Lexus models that have perforated seats without active ventilation - my old GS430 and RX400h were both in that category. The F vehicles certainly aren't fully loaded compared to the Premier models. The GS F for example doesn't have the 3 zone AC system, only 2, nor the ion generator and the seats are only 10-way adjustable rather than 18-way. I'm with you on ventilated seat though, I use the all the time in the Summer, especially if I'm wearing a formal shirt.

  24. As Colin said, It would be massively expensive. I am almost certain it would be cheaper to Part-exchange to the car you like.. And it was like that for long time - Lexus cars are not retrofit friendly at all. Thought there was guy on CT forum who had dealer to fit cruise control on CT for quite reasonable price, but hat was very specific case where the only part needed was the stalk on the steering wheel column and the rest was already in the car. I am surprised that IS mk3 doesn't have cruise control - that was standard on mk2 range.

  25. Hi, welcome to LOC. Whilst anything is possible it would be extremely expensive to add features unless you had a donor car to take the parts and wiring loom from. The F Sport centre dial can be moved over via a button on the steering wheel, that wheel is only on the F Sport so you would need that in addition to the instrument cluster plus potentially different wiring looms.

  29. In the two months I’ve owned mine I’ve had to spend around €4500 fixing stuff- all four shocks, water pump, new 12v battery, all brake discs and pads. This was on top of the €11000 purchase price for a 2008 450h (the tax changed here in Ireland in 2008 from €1850 PA to €750 as it became emissions-based, so the post-change cars hold their value very well). Lexus have agreed to give me a new bonnet, however, as there were small signs of corrosion, and it passed its final hybrid battery check last week. Reversing auto-tilt mirrors don’t work properly. Driving-wise it’s great, although it creaks like an old ship, going to have a felt and silicone grease festival this weekend to see if I can eliminate the noises. Traction control is too invasive- every time I put my foot down the nanny slaps my wrist. Traction not great in general really, again it might be the tyres in need of refreshing. Love the power though, and it’s doubled the mpg of my rx8 in every driving style. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  31. I was pondering an F-Type instead of the RC-F. But 6 months of lurking on the owners forums (fora?) suggested it was a risky proposition in terms of reliability

  33. My previous 56 plate is250 had heated and cooled seat, the ISF doesn't. It was quite a nice touch but the Mrs did used to say it made a noise and sounded like being sat on an aeroplane (cabin pressurisation) 😂. The ISF seats are different in their construction, so perhaps the clearance wasn't enough to add the fan/blower, or there are some reliability issues with the fan so they didn't bring it into the ISF. I did think the same thing at first but I don't miss the cooled seats in the ISF. If all else fails, if you drive fast enough in the ISF with the windows open you do get a lovely breeze throughout the whole car, even on a hot day 😉

  36. Hi all. Sorry to throw a spanner in the works but are you sure it is a sensor from the engine as i had the VSC come on in my IS250 and the garage after a lot off searching with lap top and 2 technicians driving the car found it was a sensor in the car nothing to do with engine / exhaust at all and it cost £ 950.00 pounds including labour over £600 for sensor lucky i had the warranty just worth looking deeper before parting with money. 65mike.
