RX450h 2009-2015 has a rubber belt, which drives the water pump. All other aggregates are either part of the eCVT (starter/alternator) or are fully electronic (air conditioner compressor). The auxiliary belt is 7PK810, and generally does not require much attention. I decided to replace mine at 186k miles, as part of a major service. Access: remove the front right wheel, unscrew the plastic panel which covers the main shaft and the water pump shaft, loosen the tension pulley with a 14mm key (turn counter-clockwise), remove the belt from shafts. While working on the belt, look around the shafts for coolant leakage - water pump is one of the week spots in the car. After 10 years 186k miles the belt appeared to be in good shape without any cracks or excessive wear. The only issue was a few small stones and sand stamped into the belt contact surface. It would be possible to keep using the old belt after cleaning, but I replaced it anyway because a new one had already been bought. The original appeared to be Bando Toyota, which is one of the top quality makes. In RX450h it does not take much load and does not bend outwards, which is the reason of its longevity. In 2015 RX upgrade the belt tensioner was removed, which implies that the belt does not need to be changed for a long time. I would say it should only be inspected after 100k miles. Belt scheme: Original belt (Bando Toyota 7pk810) removed: Stones and dust on the working surface, no cracks or heavy wear: New Gates 7pk810 belt fitted (double check that all teeth are properly on all pulleys): The belt is £7-10 on eBay/Amazon. Mechanical skill required: moderate Time required: 20min

I'm a time-served electrician, having done my apprenticeship in a factory. When the factory closed down I got a job on what was then known as Post Office Telephones and became a telephone engineer for many years. After a back injury saw me medically retired, I went self-employed doing computer repairs, until I retired last year. All my working life has been spent in electrical/electronics maintenance - about 47 years of diagnosing and tracing faults in one form or another. It doesn't always make sense to members of the public, especially if they aren't very 'tech-savvy', but it's nigh-on impossible to trace a fault if it's not present at the time of inspection. Even a 'really real special specialist' will struggle to find a fault if it's not there. We have to believe what our test gear is telling us and what our eyes and ears are telling us, and if all those are telling us that everything is alright then the job sheet gets 'NFF' or 'No Fault Found'.

As Ken has said one will pay more for a car from Lexus, but one will receive more too.

Sorry Im a bit late. Ive got a 2016 blu e with black leather, had it from 11months old with 5k miles Now has 20k miles , 3 and a bit years in. Absolutely nothing else around to replace it as our family wagon. Kids love it, wifey loves it and its different enough to keep me interested.

No it doesn't. My car was first registered in November 2013 and it's an Advance without ML. It was added to Advance in August 2014. Sorry 'my bad' , I'd forgotten that they changed the spec in 2014

Advance is a good spec to have. It has Mark Levinson as standard. Do be aware that the diamond cut wheels soon lose lacquer coating in centres. Mine was just out of warranty when I noticed they were going. Lexus Customer services paid for them to be refinished and I had them powder coated in an f sport dark chrome look whiwwas awesome. If car is around 60,000 miles make sure the big service has been done. Cross Climate tyres are brilliwon a gen 3 car.

Just read this thread. Interesting to read about differences between na and turbo. For me I'd prefer na all day and I quite like a car that has to be worked to deliver performance, I mean its hardly a chore wringing out a 5 litre v8! The is500 looks nice to me, such a shame it isn't coming over to the UK, or the is350 for that matter.

On the higher grade models the seats can have cooling, as well as heating, so the leather has perforations. You are correct in that some colours seem to look as though they have worn better.....ie black versus ivory.....there is also a grey interior. However, the leather can be cleaned and treated....I think someone in here put up some photos after treating his leather seats on a GS450 if I remember correctly. I also think, just my opinion, that the black leather makes the car rather dark inside. It's all down to personal choice I guess but the RX450h's are pretty solid cars. Just make sure it has a good, preferably, full lexus service history including the hybrid battery health check. You will pay more direct from Lexus. I have also found that the cars tend to be looked after by their owners as well as they are looking to keep them for a long time.

The better way to fuel economy for hybrid cars but for every car also is to drive in a way you do not need strong braking; if you predict that you have to stop, as approaching to a red traffic light, leave the pedal and let the car "flow", and press brake pedal lightly so to stay in "charge" zone without intervention of brake pads: the smoothest driving is the most fuel efficient.

I was quoted £120 by Lexus Hatfield. When they couldn't find a fault, they charged me £0. Very good of them I thought!

Unlike an extended/used warranty, you are free to have your vehicle serviced at any independent and maintain the new car warranty - provided the schedule is adhered to. But I agree it is a little odd, especially as it would devalue the vehicle greater by not having full Lexus history than any saving made in the first two or three years.

I've been waiting since the 30th January 2021 for the V5c in my name as new owner. The Car is still recorded as taxed until October 2021 so the seller also hasn't had the advantage of a tax refund. Checking the option Forms it seems to me that I'd need pay £25 as if I'd lost the original V5c. I don't fancy having the small green slip sent to DVLA by the Post Office as I recall the fact that I discovered after (was it twelve years??) that DVLA had cancelled my Driving Licence instead of that of my Brother which I submitted on his death in a Motor accident. Only discovered that becuase went to hire a Van and they said I didn't have a Driving licence. Dougie of UKIP sorted for me! So, although I could give the car its first drive thinking that any Police Car would find the car recorded as having tax, I just don't care for the hastle if such bravery is found out. The good news is that the Boys turned up and took away the Grandstand Wheels and replaced with the ones I've had in my hall for weeks. The five will be refurbished and I'll almost certainly sell four of them and keep the fifth 18 inch as a spare in my Boot. I now have 17 inch rims but the two rim and tyre size match to .03 % I quite like the look of the new Rims. Tidy, anyway. New Aero Wiper Blades arrived and as I have one fog light broken glass, I've ordered a pair of Yellow Glass fog lamps with bulbs from USA to replace. Good job I'm a patient Man although perhaps more like a Patient, these days!

Just to add to your conundrum.........many recommend taking out a 2 year Lexus warranty on an older car. The car needs to be under 140k miles and not more than 10 years old. Hence if you want to do this then it's a 2011 year car or younger. The warranty is very good and many members of the forum can attest to getting a lot of things done under this warranty. You need to have the car serviced by Lexus to maintain the warranty but using the essential service option it's not that expensive. The warranty gives you 2 MOTs and 2 years worth of RAC breakdown cover. For a RX450h the warranty cost is £995 on a 2 for 1 deal. Worth looking into I would suggest.

Cyclone, Go join Lexus Owners club UK on Facebook. Guy had accidentally used a scouring pad on his leather seat and then took it to a leather restorer who made it as good as new. Pictures are there on the group. Suggest that should allay any fears about the seats.

Just installed: - front splitter MaxtonDesign, - side skirts MaxtonDesign, - rear diffuser with brake light MV-Tuning. Need to reweld exhaust tips - should be a bit longer.

I’d suggest to avoid SE-L, because of air suspension. It is not just expensive to repair, but also much stiffer than the normal suspension. Also if you find one with ICE (entertainment displays for rear passengers), dot’t agree to pay an extra penny for it - these displays are absolutely useless and outdated.

^^ Thanks John. I spent a good thirty minutes looking everywhere for something about warranty but couldn’t find it. About the only place I didn’t look was under ‘owners’ 😆 £795 for two years is a great deal and confirms my decision to keep what I’ve already got!

Yup - hadn't logged in here for ages, and haven't the foggiest what my username/password/etc were. (age, brainfade, etc) Your RX has been totally flawless (just a low 12V battery during lockdown). It's taken us all over Europe, too, although we've done fewer miles this last year, obviously. Valeted yesterday and still great for 16 years of age. Just getting a quote now for getting those key-scratches done. (Alas in order to sell it - it's time to change to an all-EV for commuting and daily duties.) Good to see you got into an LS, too. 🙂 What do you reckon to the LS vs the RX? I'll be recommissioning my '97 Mk4 LS for long-range and weekend runs.

The sensor shaft can easily be repaired by epoxying a piece of metal tubing over the broken pieces. Free of the seized ball joints at either end before doing this. You cannot buy the shaft on it's own it only comes as a complete assembly at wallet ectomy prices. John.

If you need the ride height sensor - SGS Engineering do one for the LS400 - you could ask if it will the GS or perhaps they can make one for you. This is a common problem on the LS400 aswell

Moreover it is really stupid selling something on ebay from a bidding starting price of £40,000 even with reserve while the buy now price is 45,000. Nobody will bid I am sure.

Most of the time I prefer to drive fairly normally and not concern myself with trying to achieve the best economy. I do a couple of journeys where I’ll try to better my best figures just as a bit of fun but nothing more than this. I find it boring to be honest.

There were several OEM 18" options (and one 19"): 18" Original Sport, F-sport 18-Spoke, F-sport "Baransu", Mk3 - F-sport... and few more I don't even know the names of (mk2 f-sport?): 19" US Speck F-sport: several 17" options, the original 10 spoke (you have) and 2 options of "advance" : and one 16" option on early SE model only... Then you can fit any mk3 IS wheels or RC wheels, RC-F wheels and of course mk2 IS-F wheels. And older IS and GS wheels... so there are quite a few OEM options. Probably few more I have missed. Finally just a picture of my old car for good measure 😁

Great service - The Hybrid fault had cleared by the time they tested it. The £60 was waived and the car was washed. Wow!

Various things I have seen as reported.......rear door intermiittant working, air suspension, sun roof leaks, imbalanced tyre wear....ie shoulder wear, wear in drovers seat. The usual checks on brake discs and pads. Suggest there are no gotchas that I have seen.

I previously noticed light condensation on my battery also. So where the water ingresses through the boot seam crack, it runs down between the boot trim and the inner boot lid, dripping onto the lower boot threshold carpet. If there is sufficient water it drips down between the gap around the hybrid cover trim ( the tray that holds the tools). This water then evaporates (especially if the hybrid battery is used and warms the surrounding air). This moist air rises, including into the quarter area on the left as it is linked. The coldest surface is the outer quarter panel skin, so condenses there (ie the compartment where the battery is). In another post a member mentioned there was sufficient moisture to damage their amplifier located in the space around the hybrid battery. Maybe remove the tray covering the hybrid battery check there is no water collecting in this area around the hybrid cell and is the carpet damp near the boot opening or on the LH side? As you say, get some dehumidification on the go in the interim.

If you look on YouTube, there are several videos covering the work. It's more fiddly than difficult, by the look of it (I've yet to have to do it)

If you mean the HID dipped beam, it means dropping the front bumper, inner wing liner and removing the whole headlight assembly. The main beam is easy!

My hybrid makes lots of funny noises which sound disconcerting but are normal.

M3/M4 “outright sports car” - never in a million years. Performance saloon - yes And again - you’re not driving the right turbo cars. Plateaus then change up - nope. In a shopping trolley yes. Not in a proper performance “turbo” like an M, RS, AMG, Porsche etc etc etc. They pull like hell to the red line. and as @Flytvrsaid the nanny programming on the gearbox wanting to be in the highest gear possible is a problem and does effect ultimate performance. I use mine as a daily, and find it fine for that. Using the paddles in S+ allows the performance to used to the full if required.

Agreed. I bought one of these recently for the Saab but currently it's in the boot of the LS because there was a bit of condensation in the wheel well. Assuming you don't find a leak it's nothing to worry about. Just builds up through lack of use and the change of weather.

Buy a dehumidifier bag from Amazon and stick it in the boot if you cannot fine any leak.

Yeah, simply push the cruise control stalk forward (away from you) toggle from adaptive cruise to normal cruise. It's in the owners manual 😛
