  1. Hello, today was our collection day to pick up the NX300h from Lexus Leicester to London and we drove back really impressed with this car. We are so happy with this purchase! Amazing car!! We love the way it drives on the motorway and city. It is really a good car and I can see the things that have been done to it compare to my GS 450h. The car does have enough power and it has a tendency to cruise at the same speed for a while even if you release the accelerator (our Tiguan did not do this, it would decrease speed instantly) - so long driving distances, this is perfect and very relaxing. The adapting cruise control is a very good thing to have when in lots of traffic on motorway. The air con is brilliant, provide cool air like wind blowing from time to time unlike Tiguan making the air con constant blowing. There are some small touches that show how much they thought through like stopping the air con for back passengers (brilliant idea!). We cannot wait to drive luxurious miles with this car - even our 2 young kids (8 and 6) did not complain during the entire trip back home...They were super happy. Please see some photos of this car parked next to our GS450h...

  2. Back in my 400 days, I found my internal boot release lever badly bent. The car had been laid up for a couple of months and I'd taken it for a full valet to spruce it up. The young lad doing the cleaning had bent the lever trying to open the boot.....not realising that it was an electrical switch and it had been disabled. Luckily, it was only bent and could be 'persuaded' back into shape.

  4. Reading your comments it makes me feel very privileged to be owning my LS 400 - even after a hefty MOT bill.

  5. I've been using the Faraday pouches for a long time and yes, they do work well to begin with, but they do fail. My current Monojoy ones have failed after about 9 months use so two more are being delivered today. The metallic mesh has to be flexible but it appears that that flexibility also makes it delicate and eventually the movement of the keys will break the continuity.

  7. As promised, I contacted the parts departments today of two major Lexus franchises regarding the 12v battery for my car representing the 3rd generation and some earlier generation RX450h cars. These were the franchises of Snows Exeter and Thistle Groups Cheltenham Branch. Both confirmed that there was only one battery specified for my car, the AGM S55D23L and that it was only available as a 51Ah battery. Cheltenham kindly unboxed a new one to check the specification. So this further supports what I thought was the case. I could not establish the specification of the 12v battery of the 4th generation because either the chassis number or the registration number of a car is needed and I have neither. In the circumstances, I repeat my request for somebody to give me the specification and size of the battery on their car so I can check how this compares with previous generations. Thank you.

  8. Hi there, I'm a owner of GS250(2013 F-sport) since 2018. This is a great car, becoming a rare. Let me highlight the reasons why I chosen this vehicle over others Lexus models at my budget, when I bought mine. Remember, this is my personal opinion only. I was thinking about IS300h, IS250, GS300h and GS250. 450h was over my budget. I had to refuse all IS models due to I'm 6ft, and I like to have more room (I can still fit to an IS but getting in/out is easier in GS) I do like pure V6 engine, simple engine,no turbos, but still enough powerful and sounds nice on higher revs :) I do prefer traditional auto gear box over CVT. I know, new CVTs are better than before, but I'm a fan of auto-shifting gears. I do not mind the fuel economy, so I choose pure petrol car over 300h hybrid Lexus. Service costs are very similar comparing to other models at this age, sometimes are less. The only cons I found at the moment is the road tax cost but it is law,we can not change it :( Overall, GS250 is a nice vehicle to drive unless you drive a huge distances. Do a right choice :)

  11. 10 years I would say for a modern car. Or just buy something old that's worthwhile like a Lexus or for me a Volvo 240, 740, 940. 1989 240GLT auto was my daily and only car until 2018. Had 10 years reliable and trouble free miles. Bought at 159,410 for £350 and sold 10 years later with 234,000 and £500. James.

  12. I can tell you that the power in the NX300h is more than enough. This car has AWD so the power delivery was quite smooth and it is a very capable car to drive long distances... Of course the GS450h has more power but do you really need all this in a SUV? I think not...

  13. Cracking Nick! Really glad you are pleased. I did wonder if you would find the engine underpowered compared with your 450h.

  14. Thanks Phil. Quite right, there have been some times like this. My wife and I both work and we work hard and I am in a property business (property recruitment) that I set up over 15 years ago called Cledor (www.cledor.co.uk) and my wife is an expert in consultancy business, but as you can suspect, things have not been easy, we have 2 great young kids (8 year old boy and 6 year old girl) so family is priority, then work and leasure. My wife had her Tiguan for a long time (9 years in fact) and would have kept it if ULEZ was not enforced, but something happened and made her think seriously about getting a car that will be passing ULEZ. The NX300h is a perfect choice for our family needs.

  15. Agree with you 100% Steve. This will be a class leading SUV. I reckon the 350h will start at £39k with the 450h+ at £50k.

  16. It's down the the electric motors which are much more powerful than fitted to a normal Lexus hybrid as this one is designed to operate as a full EV for 30 odd miles. Identical to the current Toyota RAV4 plug-in in terms of engine/hybrid system/performance. An electric door opener rather than an internal mechanical door handle seems a bit unnecessary at first but its linked to the safety system so it won't open the door if a car or cyclist is coming past which is quite a cool feature.

  17. It looks like there are different types for the centre section and sides, there are some on Fleabay claiming to be “ genuine” but the provided part number doesn’t exist. Found these on Amazon but again duff part numbers and only lists 2003-2006 facelift models. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultrasonic-Reverse-Parking-89341-50011-8934150011B0/dp/B018TR4KHE Give LexusPartsDirect a call they will help you with part numbers and supply.

  18. I received an AC compressor from them last year, the plastic connector bracket on the pump was broken. I fixed it ok and didn’t affect anything but I agree the packaging could have been better but compared to the cost elsewhere I wasn’t too upset. I thought it must be a ‘one off’, maybe not though. Didn’t affect the compressor I bought but other stuff may be worse.

  19. Completely disagree. There was a grave danger that in redesigning the NX they would design out the appeal of the shape and look of the first model which is stunning to look at, still. This even more aggressive looking version of the current look I think completely manages to update without losing what I loved and still love about the NX. It still looks very different to other SUVs on the road. They all fade into the background while this one continues to be a head turner. I'll be first in the queue.

  20. If Ev's are that reliable and simple to fix via straightforward component swap why wouldn't Tesco do it let alone Tesla? For example Costco do an ace job on tyres and stuff why not?

  22. Yes you can turn it off. Menu > Setup > Vehicle on the main infotainment screen. If it is turned off you need to place the key fob next to the start button to turn on the ignition.

  24. For me it would depend on, how much I bought the car for, how long I have had the car and its overall condition and mileage. I would consider taking it to a specialist independent - I believe Roy of the Rovers has a list of garages recommended by members. Give him a PM, but I am sure he will see this post!

  29. I also bought one of these and yes it works however I find it too big and cumbersome to open close but great for my spare. I then bought a Monojoy boxy zipped thing which equally works well and it takes 2 house keys. But it's also bulky when you don't have a jacket on on warm days. But being England that won't be too often 🤣

  30. The Mrs wanted a Q3, which I wasn't against but made her test both before making a decision, she didn't like the old shape Q3 and she had to spec the new Q3 quite highly before she was happy with its creature comforts but the price was then eye watering! She loved the looks of the F-sport NX and the 'packs' are so much easier to navigate, we grabbed a bargain high mileage (for its age) NX which was fully kitted out, with the reliability rating being so high, I wasn't worried. The only thing she wasn't keen on, was the lack of 'oomph' but she's getting used to the CVT & hybrid style of driving 😛

  34. if you have had the car longer than the 6 months john has mentioned have a look under the carpet by the transmission tunnel there will be a drain tube there it goes throught the floor to drain ( well it should drain outside ) once you have found the pipe put some towels down and disconnect the tube, blow down the tube to make sure the drain is clear i have used a syringe and warm water squirted water back up the drain tube into the ac system to dislodge any blockages once running clear reconnect the drain tube

  36. Am looking at a second EV for the house hold the range and price of the UX E is actually OK. Pretty much every half decent EV starts at £40-50k these days. The problem is the IS300H that it be replacing is simply proving to be TOO RELIABLE!!! Its done just 34k in coming up to 7 years, I've started to skip the annual oil service as its used so little, but even than its not using a drop of oil/coolant/brake fluid between 2 year services. Still returning 45-50mpg, and with petrol prices at a very stable £1.25/l, its costing less than a few hundred £ per year to refuel + VED is only £10/year. Its simply so cheap and hassle free to own/run, spending £40-50k on ANY new car to replace it seems crazy. So because of Lexus build quality and reliability we simply cannot find any reason why we need a new car to replace the IS......at this rate even by 2030 I don't think there would be a 'logical' argument to replace the IS!!!

  39. How weird is that? Yesterday I sold my 2000 ls430 with 144300 miles on the clock and I'd had that for six and a half years. Not a bad result with that really, it means it only cost me £1000 for the whole time I've owned it! Very happy to say I've still got the "55" plate ls430 though.

  40. Hello All, This is my first post on this forum. It's been really interesting to see all the comments about the UXe- especially about how it drives and the battery range. I have a Takumi Pack model on order (as a company car) and decided on Mercury Grey with a black interior in the end. There were many other EV's available but I went for the Lexus because of their reputation for quality and excellent dealer service. I'm currently investigating a home charger and will post some pictures when it arrives, which will be another 4-6 weeks. Best wishes, Chris

  41. Point well made Shahpor. There are many of us in that boat with you. It might be useful going forward if we had access to the design life of parts that seem subject to the most claims, whether they are included or excluded from the new Relax warranty.eg, Shock absorbers, Multi-media systems, Headlights etc. We could then perhaps form a view as to whether a particular failure was due to poor design, defect of manufacture, design life having been achieved (wear and tear?), not fit for purpose ,etc. We could then decide how to pursue the matter eg, use the Relax warranty, accept wear and tear, or not fit for purpose under Sale of Goods Acts etc. There is much for us all to reflect upon. As I said in another Post, if 80% of claims are approved, there will be general acceptance.

  42. But that is the point - up until now the Lexus Extended warranty precluded this issue which is why this is such an annoyance to people like myself. I could have handled the reduced mileage allowance but it is the reduction in coverage that make it unfeasible for me. As an example, BMW do offer what they call Comprehensive cover, which is very similar to the Lexus Extended warranty. Granted it isn't as cheap (especially after 60k miles) but the fact that it is an option means that I have the choice if I buy one of their cars.
    1 point
  43. For me this is the crux of the issue. Personally, I have had a shock absorber and engine mounts replaced under warranty and I know there are members on here that have had headlights and multimedia screens changed, so these things do occur and are, as you say, very expensive to rectify. As someone of limited means (I am far from homeless but a repair of £'000's is beyond my usual income limits) the worry of something like this happening would somewhat rob me of the pleasure of owning one of these cars. Shame really as I do like the Lexus experience a lot.
    1 point
  44. I wonder what the term "manufacturing defect" means, said Christopher Robin.
    1 point
  45. Most of that wouldn't have been covered on extended warranty and the paintwork has a warranty anyway. But the issue is the differences that are no longer covered such as headlights, exhaust, shock absorbers, engine mounts, multimedia system (which the assumption is that is the whole system headunit, amp, screen). Possibly the headlights stopped being covered on the very latest extended warranties but not supporting the multimedia system which would cost thousands to replace is a concern. Whether Lexus still choose to cover these items remains to be seen, but by the letter of the contract they certainly don't have to.

  49. I doubt it would work in that sort of way like a switch, ie, either wet or AGM. Irrespective of chemistry and construction, as a battery ages it will present different characteristics to the charging circuits (or I would think so anyway) so I would expect the electronics of the DC/DC converter to be intelligent enough see what it's dealing with and to act accordingly, automatically.
