Aye i remember the LS7 clutch kit was a popular upgrade through Monkfish. Your right about the price though, easy to forget that some of the older Jap cars like the MKIV supra cost 50k plus in 1993. Think i paid about 13k for the CV8 and it still had vauxhall warranty left so it was a great entry into the V8 world.

Nope 2 different ones, had a silver one first but then had to sell it due to having emergency spinal surgery . So couldnt get in it . But hen got a black one a few years later.

Late last year, a mate of mine and I decided we'd bugger off to Wales for a couple days of driving. Day one was glorious weather - day two........ hmmmmm...... yuck. Hello everyone. I'm now officially the proud owner of a 2011 IS-F, silver of course 2011 plate, a tad over 19,000 miles and totally stock. It's got the optional wheels on which I love! Terrible weather today, so not had much chance to enjoy it yet. Roll on the summer!!

Congrats on your new car. I've had mine for nearly two years and it hasn't missed a beat. Goes like the clappers and is very quiet and comfortable. I can get all my bars green from time to time but you attend to find this only really occurs on driving with lots of decents as the car attends to charge up the batteries more. Two bars from the top is fairly typical though unless your driving through slow traffic on battery only when off course it will drop until the engine cuts back in. This time of year with the colder weather and heating on you attend to find the engine wanting to kick in sooner and more often but that's quite normal. as far as mirrors folding, I'm not sure. I have a feeling the are fold only on the manual button but later models may be programmed to do this automatically. I may be wrong. I know a few on the forum have discussed after market solutions which allow this option so it's possible although it's never bothered me enough to consider doing. Just watch yourself on wet bends as it's a big powerful motor and deserves a certain respect or it might bite. enjoy and get some pictures up. carl

In the states there were 50 special edition IS-F's by Neiman Marcus with black with white accent stitching in the cabin, steering wheel with white leather accents, front headrests embossed with the F logo, hand-polished finish on the wheels and numbered Special Build badge on the centre console.

When it was in for one of the previous recalls (fuel pump IIRC) the garage did an inspection on the car while it was in many bits and noticed that there was a crack on the radiator so to be safe they decided to replace it. Unfortunately parts supply was (and probably still is) slightly problematic. They tried Lexus UK but there wasn't one, there's apparently a big parts depot in mainland Europe (Germany I think they said) and they didn't have one. Had to go ask in Japan and they didn't have one either so Lexus Japan had to make me one I'm assuming it was assemble rather than make from scratch and a batch rather than just 1 but didn't get all the details. 2 weeks with a brand new IS300H Premium later and I got the car back. From memory the dealer said the bill would have been significant (well into 4 figures including labour).

Just swap the wheels while you're there!

Managed to work out the intricacies of Tasker, with the help of my brother who has it installed on his One Plus One. I now have a profile installed that will turn on the phone hotspot when it connects to the Lexus bluetooth and likewise turn it off on disconnection.

Idling has now normalised......and so has my blood pressure io think. Lol thanks for input guys. i'm not wanting to bodge it in an unsafe manner or anything like that. My logic is simply to in effect manually adjust the suspension to level as it is not doing it automatically.

Mine is almost always in Sport mode. However, the 35mpg on the motorway was in normal mode. Ive found it doesn't make much difference in MPG between ECO and normal and therefore find ECO a bit of a farce, especially as it ruins the power delivery I also don't use EV mode as to me, it seems to raise MPG for a bit, then runs out of battery and results in a bigger drop in MPG. My driving style also appears different to yours. I try to keep momentum, hence I find myself accelerating down hills and gaining enough momentum to pull me up without any use of the accelerator (not always possible I know). Ive also found it better for MPG to floor it to the desired speed and just hold it there. I live in Yorkshire so hills are a huge problem for me but I dont think Im doing too bad all considering. I think the MPG would be much better if I did longer trips and had flat ground

I imagine there are various ways of bodging the problem, as it's a suspension issue and one that affects other road users if you have a failure, and coupled to the fact that you have published on an open forum that you have a problem with your suspension then I hate to think of the ramifications if you injure someone because you have bodged a temporary fix. I image your insurance will decline any liability and you will be prosecuted... Your car is not roadworthy unless the suspension is working as intended by the manufacturer.... Take it to a good independant or the dealer and get it fixed properly...

Yeah, don't worry about the rough running that will sort itself out... I still say it's a height sensor, when you had it jacked up the sensor will have gone to a place it doesn't go often, when they get a bit long in the tooth they don't like being messed around. As I said you can get this checked by someone using a diagnostic tool that will read the live values from the sensor... Not just fault codes....

I've found the standard Nav in the 3RX to be a big improvement over the older versions, with better detail (unclassified roads shown) and really no need of anything better, as it also includes real time traffic warnings, diversions etc. No internet service on the Mk3 though AFAIK as, like many others, I think it uses it's own inbuilt receiver for traffic warnings.

It's a shame to hear all the problems you had with the car, the guy who looks after my vans is actively looking for VXR8, and viewed loads of cars in the last 7 months and still not found anything. One reason why I've jumped from German to Jap. Big Rat

First thing I would look at is the height sensors, these are basic hall effect sensors and won't last forever, it should be fairly easy to remove the arm that comes from them to the suspension arm, move the arm as if the car goes down and see what the system does, it could help to diagnose... Someone with the correct diagnostics should be able to read live values from the sensors to determine if they are faulty or not. Not sure how many sensors your model has, some have one each side and link the front and back together hence both wheels are running at high height... I'd say just buy a sensor and try it out but they appear to cost a fortune so it may work out cheaper paying for diagnostics on it... Most garages can tell you if there is a fault logged but an issue like this is the sensor giving an incorrect reading so you have to have access to, and understand, the live values from the car to diagnose. How did you get on with your Monaros? My CV8 was probably the worst car i've ever owned in terms of reliability and build quality. Used to chew through brakes every 5k (smaller much cheaper brakes than the VXR) The power steering pump failed at 3 years old whining all the time (Vauxhall werent interested under warranty) then the power steering cooler hose blew off on my drive making a right old mess off the mono block. Had to replace one of the HP power steering hoses due to rot. Belts squealed everytime it rained - failed idler pulley. Most days from cold it wouldn't go into reverse and had to go through 1st to 4th before you'd get reverse. Diff oil was silver at three years old. Clutch would slip when warm trying to pull away quick - something to do with the servo oil overheating. Oh and water liked to leak in the doors. Loved driving it though and that big old pushrod V8 was great to live with day to day. Driving in the snow was interesting lol. Seriously considered a VXR8 but saw more issues with water leaks , gearboxes failing, wishbones failing after 5k and indicator faults so went back to Japanese cars.

Nice to know. I hadn't been considering a hybrid but I am coming around to the idea. I like the idea of good performance with decent economy and lower road tax but was concerned about a potential bill for a few grand. Sorry if it's an often discussed subject. I mustn't have done a very good job searching for previous threads. Thanks very much for your advice.

Keep us updated on how you get on with it. I've heard they aren't as reliable as a Prius but I imagine some of that is exaggerated.

Hello. Sorry to hear your having trouble with your lexus vehicle. I had the same problem with my previous IS220D. I booked mine into lexus who diagnosed the 5th injector was causing my vehicle to smoke excessively. Within an hour they had fixed the problem.

As these are now getting into the realms of owner servicing etc I thought I would add this info here about battery removal or disconnection... It is unusual to have to wait this long after switching off the ignition before disconnecting the battery, failure to do this could lead to a rather expensive reprogramming of the navigation unit, the description of which takes pages and pages in the workshop manual...!!! From the Lexus workshop manual. NOTICE: After the engine switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation. Personally I'm going to put a note on my battery to remind me...

Occasionally I check the USA Lexus Owners website and they do a lot of miles (understandable). A lot of them have done over 150k to 200k miles with no problems with the batteries.

Best place to have MOTs done (if you don't use and trust a local garage that is) is a local authority workshop. Local Council, local bus depot, even Ambulance Service workshop. They don't actually carry out any repair work on private cars so there's no incentive for them to 'fail' it in the hope of making some money out of you - if it fails you know it's a genuine fail and nothing dodgy.

That's a relief, nothing like buying them and finding they are worse than the ones you took off.....

Oh, right, I see what you mean Malc, it has original front wings, doors and boot, it still has the hologram sticker on them and the boot floor looks very original... no surface rust on the bottom of the steering column which is a sign of being flooded, see bottom right, that is unprotected mild steel... Popped in this morning to see how they are getting on, roof and bonnet resprayed and they were flatting and polishing it, they are going to double bake it so it will get stuck back in the oven tonight, baked for 30mins then left to cool overnight, then another flat and polish in the morning, this is to get a good finish and check for sinkage. It should be ready for pick up mid morning... I just get them to flat and polish it, I will finish the hand polishing at home as I like doing it and it keeps the cost down.... I have booked a ramp next Tuesday at my mates garage to do the suspension and brakes, the suspension bits are here, just waiting on the EBC brakes... Getting there...

Ok so I think i can say everything is very ok. I cleaned the filters that John told me and changed the spark plugs. The check engine light did not come on since the first post of this topic. The filters where not dirty as far as I could saw but i cleaned them anyway. The strange thing is that when i took out the right screw with the filter for bank 2 of the engine, there was no oil coming out but on the left screw on bank 1 when i got the screw out some nasty dirty oil came out, probarly that was the cause for the CEL that i was mentioning in the first post. About the misfires, the strange thing is that the problem i think was related to the oil dipstick not plugged in correctly. Probably it was a vacuum leak because when i plugged the dipstick correctly, the engine cold started fine and this was before i changed the spark plugs. Anyway guys thank you allot for your help especially Britprius (John) for all the good advice about my problems. I will keep this topic updated in case others need help.

I had the terraclean done on my old mercedes e220 only because my uncle works at a garage who does this and I got a good discount . Only paid £40. thinks it's normally over £100. To be honest I couldn't notice any difference what so ever but the car was relatively new with full service history . Older vehicles with high milage and not up to date with the services may benefit . I don't know. I only use shell nitro in my is250 as it has extra additives to keep the engine clean. I don't do a great deal of miles so only costs me an extra couple of pounds each week.

When the HV battery is empty the engine is forced to idle to charge the battery. The filters are easy to get to once the engine covers are removed, and only require one spanner to remove the tubular bolts that cover them. They can be washed out in petrol as they are made of plastic with a fine mesh. Dirty oil would soon block them reducing the flow through particularly at low engine speeds. Use 0w30 or 5w30 oil or even 0w20 as I do. The 0w20 oil may be more expensive, but in my opinion is well worth the extra with the faster cold start lubrication it provides along with better fuel economy. John.

I think you are definitely right, especially because the car was bought second hand and the last owner changed the oil but the oil filter wasn't changed for about 30.000 miles because the shop where he would do the service oil did not have the tool to remove the oil filter housing (he did not know that those mechanics did not change the oil filter) and when i did the oil change i saw that the oil filter housing was very dirty and the oil filter pretty much toast. I cleaned up the oil filter housing, changed the filter, but i suspect that the enigne is still a little dirty inside. I will keep this oil for 2000 more miles and then i will changed again to do a flush (the oil was changed last week). Today i had about 250 miles with citys and highways and mountain roads. Traffic was moderate and the car run flawlessly. The CEL lights up only when the engine stop and starts allot of times on idle to power up the battery's. Strange thing is that i saw this only occurs only when the batteries are completely empty.

The code relates to the crankshaft or camshaft position sensors. The fault could also be caused by the camshaft timing oil feed filters being partially blocked. There are two of these small filters located on the side of the cylinder heads near the front. Each camshaft timing unit is fed with oil through an aluminium pipe running up the side of the heads terminated onto the head with a banjo style bolt. The filters are under this bolt. The filters can be removed and cleaned but new ones are not expensive. This would be my first port of call since the problem appears at low engine revs "when there is likely to be lower oil pressure" Cleaning the crankshaft and cam shaft position sensors might also clear the fault. I think the Accord might be cheaper on the pocket than the Legend tbh, My indie tells me it's very challenging to source spares other than from Honda main dealer as there are so very few Legend's ( of any age ever ) sold into the UK market. BUT so far 3.5 months the car's been BRILLIANT ( 56 plate SH-AWD 106 k miles ) .... but not so as I would change my Ls400 for it ( ever ) ....... my / the 4 ltr V8 is exceptional, now at 190k miles and will last me another 21 years I guess .......... hahahahaha I've had this one 5 years and my third over 15 years of constantly driving Ls400s Malc1 Malc1

Having only filled up with Shell Vpower from owning the IS250 (18 Months), last week I got caught out and had to use a supermarket to fill up. For convienience I filled the tank at the time. Now, 200 miles on, by tank avg on the display has gone up 2 mpg. Usually I have 29.5 with vpower, currently reading 31.5 with morrisons unleaded. I may try another tank of 95 after this one and see if the mpg stays up there. In addition I can not detect any drop in performance, smoothness etc. I will most likely continue with vpower for the cleaning properties in the long run as the extra cost isnt an issue (recently stopped smoking and its peanuts compared to that expense!)

Well ... after crawling on my hands and knees - literally, I found it. It is below the steering wheel, pretty much hidden - a small black switch.

Hi guys filled the tank with shell v-power nitro and can already feel the difference.. Also it's showing 24 mpg and 27mpg tank average!! That's perfect and some for central london driving. That's it will only use Shell V-Power Nitro. No more supermarket gimmick!!

I'm with the 'best fuel you can get' brigade - and that's Shell VPower Nitro or whatever they call it today. It's all I use in my Lexus and in my MX-5 - that's supercharged and needs 98 octane not to pink. On the odd occasion I can't find a Shell station (it can be tricky in parts of Wales, and not all the Shell stations there sell VPower) I use Octane booster in the Mazda or just buy a small amount of whatever is available for the Lexus. BP Ultimate (97 octane) is almost as good as VPower, but it's really expensive. (usually 13p per litre more, whereas VPower is normally 8p/litre more than 95 octane fuel). I'm convinced that VPower gives better fuel consumption - 3-4 mpg more (say 10%) and for a price premium of about 6.5% on normal fuel that's a pretty good deal.

It's not just the extra octane that you pay for, though. There are additional additives and detergents in better petrol that you don't get with cheap/supermarket petrol. I've lost count of the number of times I've read on various car forums about people having all sorts of problems, which go away when they switch from supermarket to branded petrol. Personally, I only use Shell V-Power Nitro+ in all my cars.

Just make sure that you don't get so carried away with trying to squeeze every last MPG out of the car that you stop enjoying driving the car. You are driving a 2.5 litre V6, after all. In the greater scheme of things, unless you are doing stellar mileage, the other costs of motoring (mostly depreciation, but also insurance, servicing, repairs, tyres, MOT, VED, etc, etc) will hugely outweigh the cost of fuel.
