  1. In Japanese but you get the gist even if you don't speak the language. Interesting idea but I'm not sure it will take off.

  2. I understand that the Timbuktu edition comes with a pure carbon, plastic, metal body with a sustainable real leather interior made from plastic bags, is as light as a Caterham 7 but as refined as a Bentley, does 0-60 in 2.2secs and can overtake a lorry in traffic even when there’s no space to go to. Even better apparently they have already depreciated and lost all of their value before they’ve gone on sale so it only costs £2.50 and has been engineered to have completely compatible and swappable parts with the entire Lexus range of the last 30 years, it also has a V8 that produces 500hp but is derived from the IS220d so has more torque than anything else on the road and is able to return 60mpg...but sadly it doesn’t have a sunroof

  3. Looked at the Cheltenham car yesterday, looks better than it does in the photos but it doesn't work for me, interior colour isn't great and the paint job on the wheels looks cheap, It looks as though they couldn't really be bothered to put any effort into the car.

  4. Got a call tonite from Karl in sales it seems after a long long time my isF is hopefully going to a new home abroad but a tea leaf helped themselves to the exhaust tips and they dispite there best efforts can get hold of a Upper offside one. So is there anyone on here that has one and can assist........ he’s authorised me to say that it’s a straight swap for that Matt Grey Rcf........ Big Rat

  5. Have been in touch with the sat nav update site : https://toyotamaps.online/map-updates/toyota-lexus-navigation-gen7-update They say that a new version will be out towards the end of this month (2018 v2). Therefore hanging on until this is released before I purchase. Will post how I get on in October.

  6. Totally stock. Except for the front license plate having been knocked off at the local Sainsbury’s car park. 🤔

  8. The problem with 'reliability' surveys like that found in What Car? this month, is that they are often based on owner responses rather than tangible data. It seems obvious, but a few years ago I listened to a chap on the radio discussing the JD Power survey - he was some sort of motor industry expert. He stressed that any survey based on owner feedback has a number of significant flaws. First, the expectation of the owner. A small fault, not worthy of mention by one respondant, could be listed by others. If somebody had bought a cheap brand, their expectation may also be different to somebody buying a 'premium' brand. Second, whether the respondent chose their vehicle. Those who are given a company car, especially those with little or no choice, are (he said) likely to be more critical of that car if they really wanted something else. Lastly, what the chap called 'justification.' If a respondent has spent a considerable amount of money on a car then they sometimes ignore faults as they are justifying their purchase - to themselves and others. Such an owner wouldn't want to see their car or car brand perform badly in a survey as they feel it reflects badly on their choice. It is a complex area, but since hearing the discussion I've only been interested in surveys that use tangible data - usually from warranty companies. Anything requiring owner feedback - which could or should be called opinion or perception instead - is interesting but not necessarily reliable. As Blackadder would say, they're a bit like a broken pencil...pointless.

  10. As much as I love my RX450h one thing, which I've mentioned elsewhere, which bugged me is its lack of Rev Counter. I'm sure I've read elsewhere on this forum if it's possible to introduce a Rev Counter and although there were many replies I didn't come across a possitive answer. Very recently I Googled said question and came across an American Lexus forum. Someone found that you can introduce a surface mount OBD reader which has a Rev counter within its plethora of other readings. I thought what a good find and proceeded to Amazon and purchased an OBD reader which pleased my eye and was small. Needless to say I'm a happy bunny now and I'm gobsmacked how low my car revs in various situation's and just how fast it gets to 6200 revs. Wow it revs quick and for a big V6 that's impressive. Below are a couple of photos of where I have mine mounted and a pic of which I have. Yes OK some wire shows but it's not a bother. A wider angle pic to show how small but very effective it looks. This is the reader I chose. I hope this will interest those, who like me, would love a Rev Counter in their car. Dead easy to fit and it also reads all other info and can read faults if they occur.

  13. I did. 😁 I'm not worried about heat soak, at the end of the day at high revs when the engine is under maximum load and needs more air that flap is open anyway, and if you are driving rather spiritedly it will be open all the time. Therefore, at low revs, I don't see how that would ever be an issue . Similar for the ECU, it's no different than having a hi-flow filter in there. I was worried it might throw a warning light, but no, seems totally fine.

  16. I'd guess to be more aligned to the Lexus ethos of comfy cruiser at low revs, sporty GT at high revs. I did the mod a few months ago (though with a proper vacuum cap, not a pencil!), can't notice any loss of power or pickup at low revs but it does sound nicer on-throttle.

  17. For a limited run I would have expected to see small boost in power. Maybe lower ride height for improved handling, maybe lighter, maybe different exhaust to make it truly special. Just feels lazy.

  19. made 3 passes around the car and didn't even show interior... Ok.. I see so in addition to UK spec.. it as well has Carbon side skirts, rear diffuser and front ~not really lip, but just corner covers.... In some way I agree - it more hardcore carbon of the carbons, in other hand why not to have carbon mirror covers as well? Maybe even low drag mirrors, something like that (just electrically adjustable): still prefer metal bonnet thought... The only reason to have carbon one is if the interior is stripped out, door cards carbon, no rear seats, front bucket seats and roll cage inside - 350kg less weight... and then I would appreciate carbon everything.

  20. Mine is completely stock. Although, seriously considering an aftermarket exhaust at the moment. Something that isnt obnoxiously loud. So i can enjoy the V8 in low revs

  22. Depends how you look at it 😄 It think it looks better then UK one... but for no objective reason.

  23. Ok... I see - the one in the video is US spec. and US spec always had metal bonnet and carbon roof + spoiler. That means UK delivered ones are like previous UK delivered Carbons with carbon bonnets... Hence my previous comment: Sorry... my stupid mistake - I would have liked it more with matte paint over bonnet - I guess one can still paint/wrap it in matching colour 😄 Yep... sorry, ignore me Colin is correct.

  25. As above - cameras for the mirrors have been shown on countless concept cars and have never taken off. I think one important issue is screen contrast in bright sunlight, whereas mirror is not impacted, secondly actual detail of the screen - human eye over mirror is many times more precise then camera over screen (even with today's technology). Then there are practical issues, e.g. if you have drop of dirt on the mirror you still have 99% of visibility, same drop of dirt on the camera and you likely will have it out of focus and dirt covering maybe 30% of camera view.. Finally, talking about focus - your eye naturally focuses on what you care, so you can look to the mirror and focus your attention for that car far away in third lane, or onto to car right behind you, you can move your head a little to see completely different perspective... with camera it is just fixed and focuses mildly on everything, but not sharply on anything in particular you want to see. For some time they will stay just fictional, concept ideas... I guess maybe with self driving cars they will become more realistic option.

  26. The primary faults to look for on the GS450H are leaking shock absorbers at the shaft seal, and exhaust leaking around the area of the "Y" piece where the exhaust splits into two to go to the rear silencers. The rear silencers also rust into holes on the top of them this does not seem to make the exhaust noisy so can be difficult to spot. The shocks are around £250 each, and there is no alternative. The exhaust rear section is around £600 from Lexus, but most here have systems made from stainless steel for much less money with a life time guarantee. A few have had a problem with the gearbox electric hydraulic oil pump. Cost from Lexus £2500, but can be simply repaired by changing the bearings for an outlay of less than £10, and a couple of hours work to remove and refit the external pump. Minor problems that apply to most of the Toyota/Lexus range are seized rear brake caliper slide pins. These can be usually freed, and greased without problems. As they are not considered a service item Lexus will just fit new calipers. There were a number of Lexus recalls for some items on the car, but do not worry if these have not been carried out. Lexus will still carry out any outstanding recalls free of charge, and usually with a loan car if required along with a wash and valet. I am in the same position as you, and find the 450H a better proposition than the 300 being lower road tax, and better fuel consumption. Do not let these seemingly expensive problems put you off these amazing pieces of engineering. If you try one you will buy one. John.

  31. Tell them to replace the entire system with a H&S catback. That’s what happened to my ISF. Ridiculous price for the tips. The situation may be different now, but when I asked about a set of tips several years ago, the price was £480 a side, and they only come in pairs.

  36. Hi all, thank you for all your helpful comments, I am going to ring the garage I bought it from tomorrow, I do have a warranty and breakdown cover on it, so might be worth getting them out fist to check my battery and take it from there, not a good start to my Lexus ownership, hopefully it will be an easy fix.

  39. Actually you could email the guy from that podcast Louis Altazan, he knows Toyota/Lexus very well and might be able to tell you what’s likely wrong with it and whether it’s safe to drive. go to agcoauto.com and fill in the contact page, he’ll get back to you usually within an hour and answers email about any car problems for free.

  40. Whilst at Lexus Cheltenham today and I know this is of interest to @Stuno1 @Bluethunder As well as myself I now have the low down on an alternative and cost wise is quite frankly amazing look at the below sheet. Incredibly cheap took a bit of finding though ☺️ I will highlight an aspect from the beginning the rear window and large trim surrounding are one piece and bonded in but are only £53.74 we checked 4 times after picking up ourselves off the floor, takes about an hour and a half each side. Even the spindle grille and parts are very reasonable and everything is black. Big Rat

  41. Exterior wise it is the same as the standard UK carbon with a grey matt paint finish, blue brake callipers and gloss black wheels. All the chrome, unsmoked headlights etc. are the same.

  42. OK, what I am saying is this, there are 10 of these cars, forget how the "normal" cars depreciate, if you have a lot of spare income then it could be a car to buy and store, it makes no difference how good it is or how the others depreciate, it is rare, there are 10, its like any other rare item, people buy them because they are rare not because of how good they are, look at how certain things, be it cars, watches or whatever, if it is rare then it has the potential to be an investment, in my opinion the colour, interior and how the others models depreciate will have no bearing on this model...………….All In my opinion of course.

  43. Cheers all - sounds like I got myself a better deal than i thought which makes it even sweeter, Found it at a dealers literally within 2 miles from me which is tucked away and had forgotten all about it - popped in and there it was! To be honest I was looking for XC90's, X5's, Touaregs, Range Rovers etc and totally forgot about the Lexus.....until I saw it. I needed a car where i (at 6'3") could sit behind myself due to my 13yr old lad being 6'2". All the other cars failed but I can sit comfortably behind with room to spare in this - and in amazing comfort. I'm smitten to say the least. And yes the cambelt was done in 2014 so 6yrs at least before worrying. Only downside is one key so will get that sorted asap.

  44. Fair way off I’m guessing But...and its a Nicky Minaj sized one...I would be willing to bet the farm that an LC-F won't be NA or a v8. My guess is that they will use a hybrid platform...combined with a conventional semi-auto box in place of the CVT...and in doing so create a proper modern F halo car that then sets the format for future RCF/GSF's in 2020+ Not saying it would be a good decision (for my tastes), but its the way the industry is going and in the face of the NSX, etc a highly tuned v8 variant would seem incredibly regressive and possibly not even permitable in Lexus' biggest markets (Japan, California, etc).

  45. LC500 I am guessing. But my kids legs are not getting any shorter, so I might have to saw them down to stumps to fit them in the back! For me the RCF is an indulgence - pretty much the only time I’ve ever been selfish as a dad, and the family wagon is for carting kids to and from so I don’t need a four door compromise car. I fear the coming of the electric revolution is nigh (see the other thread) so I want to stay big displacement and preferably NA as long as I can...I do love the look of the new S-class coupe but don’t love any of the engines and so I still have a hankering for its predecessor the CL600...possibly the last proper MB V12? But by the time I want rid of the RCF it will be possibly a little long in the tooth, although they are pretty much exclusively owned by the garaged and multi-car fraternity so usually polished weekkly and only driven three or four times a year to Ascot! Funny story - I had a friend who worked in a MB specialist restorer in Worthing and he said they had a Pagoda with bodywork that looked ‘weird’ and colour that was all mismatched. So on a hunch they took a wax remover spray to one of the panels and ended up removing what he said was about a pound of car wax. Once they did every panel the car looked immaculate...the paint matched again and also weighed about 5 pounds less than when it came in (exaggeration I’m sure - he was three pints in).

  46. Finally got around to sorting my private plate out... now the car properly feels like it's mine. I gave the car a proper clean and wax while with the plates off, actually felt the car looked better without plates altogether...
