  1. If there's a turbo, an EGR and a DPF involved, it doesn't matter what car it is - if you drive it inappropriately, you're going to have a bad time. One of the best dieselisms I've seen was hand written on the rear of a Mondeo TDCi: "Have you been missold TDI?"

  3. But only for two weeks with a colleague who needed a bigger car to take to the airport and has done me a favour knowing I like my cars and as I have been thinking for a while now of buying a 911 this was a good opportunity to have a taster of one. The porker is a 2011 Carrera S convertible with the PDK 'box with a few options sports chrono, PASM, sports exhaust. Was a bit of a shock during the drive home today, the noise, ride and rawness (roughness)) was not pleasant. Made more sense this evening honing around with the roof off and although in a couple of weeks I may be of a different opinion for now I am really looking forward to getting the ISF back!

  7. I almost always wait until it reaches 0 miles, or later. From extensive experimentation, 0 miles means there will be about 2 gallons left in the tank, so anything between 40 and 60 miles of driving depending on the road you are on. This works for ISFand RCF In 7 years, my fuel pumps have never caught fire through lack of cooling.

  9. I once ran out of fuel many years ago, in a very inconvenient part of the world in an old car with, as it turned out, dodgy electrics. I guess I was scarred for life by the experience, because I have made sure I always fill up early. The sight of that little yellow petrol pump glowing at me makes me come over all strange.....

  10. Turns out it was on top of the bumper, possibly residue from being masked off and sprayed? either way a massive relief and some simple cleaner and a gentle cloth and all is well!

  11. @NemesisUK He was of the opinion that they were just not up to the Lexus original quality by a fair way, for me I know the Lexus prices are high for supply and fit of these items but I've not heard anybody say a bad thing performance wise about them apart from cost and dust. Now obviously they are an important feature of any car goes without say, but mine is original brakes all round including pads after eight years and 42K which I think speaks volumes it's just a shame Mr Lexus wants sooooo much for them. 12. Don't mention SKODA! She is a REAL badge snob! Well an update on the saga. She wanted and I found two good ones in her price range .... but they had been sold! Tried hard to sell her a Corolla and Honda Jazz - "Granny Cars!" In frustration, and as a joke, I sent her VW Beetle I saw on AutoTrader - she liked that! It looked good one ....... sold! Then saw another Beetle in Canterbury - 2005, 2.0 litre petrol, 71,000 full service history (independent VW garage) cambelt done - immaculate! Sold? NO! She got it for £1,500 - I thought a really good buy. Not the car she wanted at first or the size of engine - WOMEN! Not a car I would have chosen - style of substance - but she is thrilled with it and £2,250 cheaper than an 06 Polo she was going to look at! Are men like that? Has anyone here set their minds on a particular car and ended up buying something completely different on the day? Also managed to sell her Seat Ibiza to a Polish chap for £200, who was exporting it for parts. He buys 400 cars each month for parts. He says older cars are very cheap here in the UK.

  13. Been to look at them with my mate Paddy he's an automotive engineer specialised in braking and suspension systems over many years. He's probably forgotten more than I'll ever know about these matters, and even his cursory look at them the pad compounds are very different from the standard ones this of course may be a good or a bad thing ! He felt the compound was less metallic and possibly softer, the originals are legendary for the dust but they work very well and last. The bells don't look the best quality in surface finishing nor did the rears of the discs. Suffice to say I've passed on these I'm not desperate for them at the moment so I shall keep looking and may take the route of others on here with alternatives. Big Rat

  14. Well, I don't know what I was worried about. All went well, the fitter was a really nice competent guy who explained all the process and didn't seem irritated when answering my stupid questions! Would definitely recommend auto windscreens.

  16. I have not long passed 222,222 in my 1997 LS400 - current is mileage is not much over 223,000. It had 211,000 on the clock, or should I say on the digital display, when I bought it about three years ago, so most of the mileage is down to previous owners. The engine runs very nicely and it feels as though it could go on for another 222,222. Perhaps it will, although probably not under my ownership ...

  17. Once again, you've all missed @Rusty Crobar's real reason for running the tank low. Just like a formula one car, Rusty's car is fuelled for the optimum.... lap.... I mean, traffic light getaway. @Big Rat uses a different fuelling strategy. His car will always have sufficient fuel to get to the next cake & coffee shop!

  18. It's a matter of convenience, really. I normally buy V-Power and have to go out of my way to access a Shell station, so I invariably wait until I have to get fuel.

  19. I've been fortunate enough to drive these on extended 'tests' many times in the last 6 months, I think they are a fabulous car but the only thing that stops me trading my isF for one is the residuals they still have a fair way to fall in my opinion. Now in the past I've not always been quite so sensible but hey ho on current trends when my isF warranty runs out in 18mts I shall be searching for one, preferably in White with a red interior which was the colour combo I last drove. 20. Nothing wrong with a 1.4 Polo. Bought one with 46k miles for £2.5k from an auction as my sons first car - went OK, pretty nippy and had no issues apart from a large rock flicking up and going through the front grill and radiator. Sold it for £2.3k a few months ago with 54k miles on it :). The thing is, its a 1.4 Naturally aspirated engine, very little to go wrong with it and very simple to fix. Doesn't look too bad for a 12 year old car either. And I got its replacement for £3.4k with 64k miles on it - A Golf 1.4 TSI, again, has no issues. TBH the refinement in the Golf at high speed is pretty remarkable for a car of this size (its honestly better than a Lexus CT hands down in every department) He tells me he's keeping the Golf for 2 years until he graduates! Somehow I dont think so!

  21. Quick drive to Lexus Birmingham this morning in my is300H Premier (got 50mpg at a 50 to 70mph) to check out an RX450H F Sport white with rose interior. Initial thoughts on the test drive were mixed due to fuel consumption looking too low to consider the change but it had settled at 36mg by the time we got back to the dealership. Anyway the deal was pretty decent so I bit the bullet and drove it away. Got 45mpg on the drive back to Yorkshire, traffic on the M42 and M1 50/60mph restrictions as far as Barnsley helped but I am sure I would have achieved around 40mpg at a constant 70mph. Love the car, the adaptive cruise control works brilliantly and it is so quiet. Its bloody huge though LOL I thought that I was going to miss the ML sound system but Rayaans was right the 12 speaker Pioneer is pretty good and I think is not far off the ML so very happy with that. I am sure all the motoring journalists who review Lexus hybrids have no clue how to drive them and constantly whine about 0-60 performance and laggy gear change. Blithering idiots IMHO. I want a quiet comfortable car that is reliable and makes you feel good and dont care if it doesnt handle or accelerate like a sports car. This is my 6th Lexus in a row and second RX and I have to say this one is miles ahead of the others Anyyway over to ebay now to list some accessories from the is

  22. If you damage a mere 5 meters of single height Armco and you could be on the hook for 150 Euro cost for men in a truck to come out to assess the damage, this is alongside the 31 Euro cost per meter to replace it if damaged. If your car is broken after a crash, the cost of recovery starts at 600 Euros minimum. Assuming you’ve crashed and the safety car is required to attend to you and or your stricken car, that will cost you 82 Euros for every 30 minutes it’s in attendance. The biggest cost of all though is incurred if the marshals decide that the track needs to be closed to recover your now very broken car and all of the bits that came off it when crashing, this will cost you from 1,350 Euros per hour for every hour the track is closed. Here is a full list of the potential cost of damaging and or closing the Nurburgring: Base fee for attendance of Armco truck – €150 Removing damaged Armco – €10/metre (x2 or x3 or x4 for multiple-height sections) Replacement Armco – €31/metre (x2 or x3 for double/triple height) Removing damaged armco posts – €5.10 each Replacing armco post – €39 each Safety car attendance – €82 per 30 mins (car and two people) Circuit closure from – €1,350 per hour Recovery truck from – €600 (inc VAT)

  25. Hello everyone! I picked up my first IS200 SE last week for the princely sum of £650. She has 97,000 miles, one owner, full history and lovely in every way apart from the bodywork. My plans are to slowly restore it to a nice standard. Primarily lots of small bodywork and paint repairs including the seriously scuffed alloys. PLANS Remove major scratches and minor dents. Repair deep dent on rear panel. Deep polish to remove the pretty bad swirl marks. Alloy repair and respray. Tint rear windows. Spray chrome rear light inserts red (sorry, not a fan of lexus lights). Make sure everything is fully rust proof and pristine for longevity. Cruise Control retrofit (if possible). Wire folding mirrors to central locking.

  29. When I bought my is250 in November 2016 it had 6 lexus service stamps in the book. Ideally I would like to have my car serviced at a lexus dealership as they will know these cars inside out. Unfortunately living in hereford it's over a 100 mile round trip to my nearest lexus centre which is in bristol. Luckily for me we have a toyota dealership here in Hereford. I recently took out a service plan with them and as an added bonus they promised to grease my caliper slide pins too at no extra cost. The service plan is considerably cheaper than what I was offered at lexus bristol and I'm certain the toyota mechanics know these cars just as well as the lexus guys. A full lexus service history stamped in the book would be nice but a toyota stamp is better than some back street garage.

  33. I bought my RX400H last March and after a short 15 months I've now sold it. For the first time since in 25 years of driving I do not currently own a car and it's a bit scary right now. Anyway I wanted to give my short-lived but exceptional companion a quick eulogy. It was by far and away the best car I've ever owned or had the privelage to drive. Completely reliable, comfortable, quiet, quick when required and totally capable in every way. However, the one thing I have noticed as the whirlwind sale took place over the last 24 hours is that I've come to realise I did't have the same personal connection with it that I have had with other cars I've owned. Technically it's utterly brilliant, no doubt, but I never found it's personality. Was it simply too good? I think perhaps the lesson I've learned is that the cars I've loved the most in my past have not been the ones that ticked all the boxes. They weren't the most practicle or economical or reliable (far from it thinking about my Alfa). Something for me to ponder as I search for my next car. That said, I can't argue with getting back exaclty what I paid! I suspect I'll file Lexus Ownership under 'unfinished business'.

  37. Yes, in that case, the Red 7 should be good for her car then. On a side note, the wheel woolie style brush has come from China - ordered from Aliexpress about 2 weeks ago but its arrived much quicker than expected. So far, it looks like the perfect size and reasonable quality for £10.

  42. This is true but today the missus wanted to get home early and didn't want to stop! Obviously she always gets what she wants. I use my car everyday so fuel stops are a tedious necessity for me but I agree with the advice, I usually fill up once I'm down to a quarter tank 😴

  47. I spent the afternoon doing some paint correction. Clayed the whole car and polished out all the scratches that weren't so deep before applying a layer of wax. Made a big difference! I also picked up some body filler to do the deep scratches and the dent above the rear light, along with the alloys. Rear bumper before: And after... I've also been experiencing a wobble from around 50-60mph from the passenger front wheel. I took it off and turns out there's a chunk missing, also looks like it's missing some balancing weights. I put the spare on which seems to have made it better, but not irradiated it completely. Any ideas?
