  2. This has been fixed. Sorry for the delay, had issues and loss of hair.

  3. Surely the cost of a new engine and fitting exceeds the loss you'd make on a trade to another ISF? I'd try and leave any emotional attachment out of it and look for the best financial route or this could be very costly. I obviously don't know the costs for you but I'd make a cost comparison of engine swap Vs trade in and see what works out best for your wallet.

  4. So the only people who can reply to a thread like this are the people who agree that the IS250 is a fast car then? I post that I don't believe it's a fast car and you post that I'm a jack in the box and I'm deliberately winding people up. Thank you. A lot of people on here need to lighten up a bit and debate and challenge and accept that not everyone will agree with their posts. Sometimes posts will be a little bit tongue in cheek too, especially when someone posts that their IS250 is faster than a current model Fiesta ST because they've just raced one on public roads and knew they were really trying. This made me laugh. Very much in fact.

  5. Given the date of the original post it's a moot point but worth noting that this is actually misdirection and half truth on the part of the original seller. There is no such thing as a trade sale (or sold as seen) between a Registered business selling a car and a member of the public. Your statutory rights are unaffected (i.e. fit for purpose, right to reject, etc.), if you choose not to buy a warranty that's fine (none I've found cover the hybrid system anyway so useless on a 400h) but certainly in this case the car was not fit for purpose at the time of purchase and the buyer would have been well within his rights to return the car for a refund.

  6. What? You mean there's a Grey ISF in that picture?

  7. I'm actually blind to any other colour but silver now. If there happens to be an ISF in any other colour than silver I don't even see it, just a big ISF shaped empty space where it should be. I assume the photo above is of a non-silver ISF. Just looks like an empty Garage with a weird ISF shaped blank space in the middle to me. Odd!

  8. @Paulmx I then withdraw my comment about your post being drivel. I can appreciate where you're coming from with regards infotainment systems having the ability to be a distraction. I' d even put money on someone indesposed (is that the right spelling? ) by their info sysem that they have a crash But where I'm concerned is if my car has the ability to accept phone calls text messages and even emails then I want those functions to work. Yes lexus make fabulous cars but what gets me is they're a premium Japanese company (Japanese where most tech is invented) that can' keep up with let's say Ford. My last 6 cars were Ford (except for the is300h I had last year) and their tech was way better than lexus fit in their cars. It' daft. I've had to faff about to finally get the function to work but in the Fords it was as simple as plug n play. I know I'm not the only one who had this issue and that' why I've posted this thread so that anyone can read it and learn from it and even pass on the info. All great answers and inputs to this thread and I'm truly greatful to all involved.

  9. No not for Christmas but finally summoned up the courage to have the roof unwrapped. Car is silver and had the black wrap on the roof when I purchased it. The vendor was very trustworthy and assured me there were no gremlins being hidden under the wrap. In the pictures on Auto Trader I really didn't like the wrap but in the flesh it looked good, I guess with the benefit of hindsight I would in future insist on it being removed prior to purchase but was mightily relieved that bar one small stone chip the roof was in A1 condition. I'm guessing that when the time comes to sell the car, any prospective purchasers would have the same doubts I did so made sense to have it removed.Whilst the car was in also had a couple of minor scuffs that were present when I purchased the car painted so all in tip top condition now and the car looks great in all silver, some say it's the best colour but to be honest they all look good to me!

  10. Thanks for returning this to what I think was the the original purpose of the thread. Yes in my opinion and experience, Lexus do sometimes slightly understate the acceleration figures. No doubt it's an average quote. Track timed SC430 owners in the US seem to get under the official numbers but driver ability, weight, fuel, tyres, environment, road surface, etc all play a part. A slightly awkward and at times amusing thread but it's good to read the passion for setting things straight. Those with a need to talk about speed or rapid acceleration might look to an older 6 cyl IS. Has 'Lexus' traditionally stood for comfort and reliability over speed....yes maybe.... but take a look at the Soarer and the Aristo, speed had a high priority in those models. Do they count or are they 'greyed out' I'm not sure? This one made me chuckle, good point that the IS250 represents very good value. No matter what the car, every tenth of a second counts, if you don't understand the daft obsession some of us have with 0-60 times, I recommend the newly formed super-fast F forum where speed is secondary and most of the topics are ferocious arguments about paint colour, coffee, cake and exhaust note. Just skip over any rogue topic with 'Nurburgring' or 'supercharger in the title.' With my petrol-head on, in the matter of comparing it to other chariots, I think we may have lost the plot. I can accept that an IS250 might live with a Fiesta ST but comparing it to a DFS sofa is simply wrong and unfair. The 3 seat electric driver-less models are so quick off the line, in ludicrous mode they can pull wheelies.

  11. I have the Ignition Cylinder Lock set with transmitter housing and cut key listed at around £650.00, personally I would be looking for a breaker on Ebay for the lock and key, buy 2 new shear bolts then swop the electronic gizmos in the keys over. Any half decent independent garage should be able to do the work in a couple of hours. The rest of the work can wait a while if you have a decent length MOT left and you can still see clearly enough out of the delaminates windows (or find a couple of secondhand ones in good condition).

  15. Had the air bag recall done at Lexus Croydon. Gave me an IS Hybrid for the time the car was being worked on. Cleaned car in and out and gave it a visual safety check. Said it was in fantastic condition for the year. Reduced the price to 15500 but still no takers on auto trader. I will keep car if it doesnt sell privately. In a way i am hoping it doesnt sell!!!

  17. I would think it unlikely as they are usually at different 'ends' of the engine, the cambelt is at the front and the starter at the rear. After a few mins digging it seems that the starter is nestled in the v of the engine and it's removal might also need a coolant 'bridge' removing, according to this thread; https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-1st-and-2nd-gen-1990-2000/194735-ls400-starter-replacement-a-story-by-bdr-4.html#post5240463 The cam belt is at the front; https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-1st-and-2nd-gen-1990-2000/636730-timing-belt-help-cam-marks.html#post7256554

  18. It's not really. The cam belt replacement is all at the front, whereas the starter is all at the top. I think very little is removed from the top to make it worth doing the starter at the same time.

  21. Graham The parts you need can be sourced at Premier parts a Russian parts supplier online who ships from the UAE they are genuine Lexus parts and here is the good news part no L45002-50012 wait for it 493 dollars part no L45898-60020 " " a dollar per bolt presume two are needed On there home page type in the model and when the parts catologe page numbers appear on the bottom right hand side go to page number 671 & 719 for the reference and price. Best of luck find a good independent who should have no problem replacing and marrying up the actuator to you present set up new keys may not be required ,if a new barrel is required a further cost of around 200 dollars will click in but Its either one or the other thats failed I think, not both.

  23. The IS250 owners manual is very specific in that when you use an automatic car wash you must fold the mirrors in (use the switch in the door panel) Page 252 of the US manual refers, might be different in the UK manual (I've got a .pdf of the US manual here and my UK manual isn't to hand at the moment). I've forgotten a couple of times and folded them at the last minute! My old Mazda 626 went through fine with the mirrors out, but the weren't electrical folding mirrors............. Andrew

  26. @NemesisUK Yes I noticed that I've been onto the website it's a timed stage event with various speed restrictions at various locations due to built up area and public safety concerns, still love it all the same the colour of the car had no bearing on my decision to elevate it to my favourite isF vid Big Rat

  28. Come on peeps. We all have a right to our opinions without people being nasty to each other. Before you post something ask yourself one question would I say this to them face to face? Let's all get into the Christmas spirit, not while driving of course, and have a little good will to all.

  29. Maybe this will help you: Reversing light mod.pdf EDIT: Sorry, just realised that it doesn't help. One thing I can say is that no trim should be held on with sticky tape, the trim is held in position with white clips. Just search Youtube for tailgate trim removal because I'd imagine that almost all cars use the same system or something very similar.

  30. I don't understand why someone posts about how fast an IS250 is and when someone begs to differ, they get flamed and abused. It's just opinions. If this is the way some people react when they read something they disagree with then they have some growing up still to do. I just don't understand the IS250 is a fast car argument. I've said on many occasions they are lovely cars. I've had two - a 2nd generation 2006 SE-L and a 3rd generation F-Sport. They are nice cars, lovely cars with smooth peachy engines that sound great. Great cars to own too. I never ever felt they were fast cars though. Maybe that's because I've owned and driven many faster cars and have something to relate them to. Maybe also because I don't race other people on the road and also perhaps because I don't think that everyone else is always trying to race me so that when I beat them then my car must be faster. Sorry to keep bursting your bubble peeps. I respect your right to post that you think it is a fast car. Just as I hope you would respect my right to disagree. Pop over to PH and tell them how fast your IS250 is, you'll get some good responses over there. The best response to one of my posts above was from someone who said that his IS250 was much faster than my NX300h and yet never had any time had I even remotely suggested that it was or even posted anything to even suggest this. Awesome just awesome.

  31. Exercise extreme caution here. Lexus told me that without a master key they could not programme a new key. So it may be the lock / key / ecu combination that you need to replace - I don't know. But find someone who understands the issues before you start shelling out. Good Luck!

  32. Quite. Battle lines have been drawn it seems. I have to agree with @dutchie01 on this one. To me, acceleration and top speed are secondary to the quiet, refined and comfortable experience doing a journey in my IS affords me. If you can have both then great, but if performance is a priority then the German brands would serve you much better. Do I think the IS250 is a quick car? No. Do I like the engine in the IS200t? No. Would I happily cruise around in either? Yep.

  33. Lovely piece of engineering. You must be top of Santa's nice list this year. Even if they are from Oz, I wish his elves could think about doing some nice performance stuff like that for the 3UZ.

  35. Totally appropriate, Cadoxton Grey is well known as a suitably stealth colour, unnoticed by all as it quietly disappears into the distance.... Unlike shouty silver.

  37. And no annoying turbo lag with the barge either @peachy and drone like sounding engine. The 250 has a delightful sounding V6 engine that sings.

  38. How can anybody say the 250 is a slow car? Several independent tests have proven this vehicle can hit 60 in as low as 7.1 seconds. Not bad for a car that was never designed to be a performance car. Sorry @doog442 but your modern twin scroll turbo charged Lexus is only slightly quicker than the 250. Only slightly better on fuel and quite frankly the engine sounds naff. Why have Lexus pulled the plug on the IS200T? because it's far to slow. People looking to buy a 4 pot turbo have performance in mind and the Lexus turbo simply does not deliver.

  39. What a sin. A recent poll on here illustrated just how incredibly popular silver is.

  40. Different people different opinions. For me lexus does not stand for high speed or brute accelleration. Not for engine noise but lack of. Not for competing with other road users but ignoring them in silence. lexus is not for everybody but for people in the know. You have to see it to recognize it. Overengineering, conservative buildquality, polarising styling and above all driving something special. A feeling a lifestyle. For me it does not matter what type of lexus people drive from 20 year old ls400 to brandnew lc we all have something in common and i find all cars just as interesting.
