  2. There is something to be said for 'Winter blues' when it comes to these things I reckon. I'm chomping at the bit to get mine out to enjoy the new supercharger setup, but the cold weather is a real fun killer in that respect! I'm sure it will be worth the wait, but do see why people lose interest or think about selling up. A few years back I bought a Navara because I thought it would be useful with snow etc, that's fine, but in reality how many snow days do we get each year?! Not many! Don't buy a car for the wrong reasons, don't sell a car on a whim, you only live to regret it I find.

  3. Well I have made it home but it wasn't drama free, serves me right for opening my big mouth, it's dangerous out there in freezing temperatures and packed ice on some roads, took me ages to get back on account of stopping three times, firstly to tow a Defender out of a ditch, then a gritting lorry and finally a snowplough - none of which unlike me were on winter tyres! On a more serious note, I took the LS for a blast round a very empty and icy a Tesco car park, very difficult to break traction unless seriously provoked and tried some emergency stops, no drama, no abs etc, will be interesting to see if the conditions in the morning can provide more challenge.

  8. Hey Mike, Indeed, made the same mistake myself when I sold my UK spec with a nice small single conversion! Would be worth a small fortune in comparison to what I got for it nowadays! You live and learn I guess!

  11. I love the old fj40s as well especially the troop carrier style I saw for sale last year from Oz. Really I could maybe opt for one of these newer forerunners and keep the ISF. The beast aka my trusty t sport Yaris would have to go instead

  12. Couple more cars new to sale one at Lexus Leicester a White low miles one owner........here is a couple of pics of it in London 3 years ago looks nice http://usedcars.lexus.co.uk/en/used-lexus/Lexus/IS-F/50-V8-with-Mark-Levinson-Premium-Audio-qxbk4e6 And this Silver one on autotrader in isF circles this is quite a famous car as it was one of the first registered in the UK and was used in a lot of promotional work and magazine articles, I see the car has had fair old wedge spent on it including a short block, looks a nice car at a fair price https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201712041791211?make=LEXUS&model=IS F&logcode=p And here is a picture of her in action March 2008 Big Rat

  13. I'm still getting used to the whole hybrid experience and I'm really missing a rev counter for the engine. I've read all the manuals and I think I've pressed all the buttons but I can't see anything that will show revs - I haven't missed anything, have I?

  14. @mike m Your right about the confidence thing I worked hard to like my last car a 996 turbo, I spent money it had a relatively low mileage for 52 plate, and I thought if I keep it low the value would go up. So I wasn’t using it much, it’s ridiculous so I started using it all the time up when the mileage down went the reliability and the values of them started to rise. So I resparked my interest in the ISF, sold the 911 got nearly 5k more than I paid for it 18months before, so here I am now, and I’m glad I did. We need to use these things and enjoy 😊 🐀

  16. Probably where I'm going wrong because I don't drive it enough. It sat for the best part of six weeks then it got out for a run beginning of December one afternoon to make sure the battery got a decent top up. You lose confidence in a car when you don't drive it enough.

  18. The Audi has a stop/start system. That is very different from a full hybrid vehicle, which is capable of pulling away without the engine running. You cannot control the engine start/stop in normal operation. The engine may start before moving off, but only if the hybrid battery gets low and needs to be charged - or in cold weather you have the heating on and the engine temperature drops too low to keep you warm. Whilst moving the engine will cut in and out as needed. Above a certain speed the engine won't cut out but will idle if only electric power is needed.

  23. Agreed with other members Your gearbox will not get up to 6th gear until the engines warmed up - to see this yourself select the gear selection screen on the dash and take it for a drive in the morning and you will see for 3 or 4 miles or so it will remain in 5th gear. Obviously the cold weather will affect the time it takes to warm up. Its important to keep your coolant changes up to date also as this cools the gearbox. The temp sensor for the gearbox is, I believe, on the upper side of the box and some can be affected by condensation, coupled together with the freezing weather then it may explain why its taking a while to get to speed but if at fault there will be an error thrown up. Its not normal to only get to 30. I would put a code reader on it just to see if there are any stored codes. The dash board Christmas tree lights on mine came on last week in the snow and it was the MAF sensor that needed cleaning so it is more than likely weather related as it has been cold but I would get your codes read...

  28. Most if not all of the Aisin transmissions fitted to Lexus vehicles will not shift into higher gears until the transmission fluid has reached normal operating temperature, there is even a transmission coolant temperature sensor fitted to ensure this happens. The reason is to avoid damage to the transmission.

  31. Hi Chan, I think the thread you mentioned pretty much sums up all the issues you might possibly face. I too have had my alloys refurb'd as they were in a dire state. I have also managed to curb one of my fronts since then. As far as i am aware, none of the issues mentioned in that thread have been resolved for the facelift models. The calipers certainly haven't. Since you plan on having it serviced at Lexus, have you considered putting an extended warranty on it? The IS250 is a well built car, and with that age and mileage I wouldn't expect many problems, but you never know. At £895 for 2 years it is pretty good value for money, especially when you factor in the fact that it includes top level AA cover as well.

  32. Noobie has put a (very good it is too) list encompassing the whole range of years really. There will be little differences from year to year when facelifts occurred. For example from 09 to 10 the facelift had a USB in the armrest and sat nav changed from disc to HDD. Some items are continuous though. The good old calipers need to be checked regularly. Lexus don't include these on their servicing schedules...they just expect you to fork out for new ones every so often. My advice would be do it yourself or get a reliable indy to do it for you. Yep the alloys are naff for longevity...had mine redone a while back (18 months or so) and now they are perfect. Well , apart from my nick on the front wheel in a underground car park in France....Grrrrrr. I doubt you'll see any exhaust problems on a car that young in miles, but, hey ho you never know. The 250 section is full of helpful folk who enjoy their cars. Fine cars they are too. Like mine very much indeed. Best of luck with your search. Take your time and get the one you want.

  33. If you look at the Reliability Surveys which have been issued over the last 15 years James, you might have been much less surprised. It is extremely unusual for any purchaser of a JLR product to be a private consumer. They are Corporate or Self Employed who can offset the cost against taxation. The private buyer looks increasingly towards Japan and South East Asian owned organisations. The ones who give 5 or more year Warranties on their products.

  34. Seems a reasonable explanation to me. Keep the revs up to warm up more quickly. Certainly how it was in my Mercs, both held low gears until engine and perhaps more importantly the CATs had warmed up. Did you notice 'normal' or expected operation resumed once your engine had warmed up?

  35. Hi phil once you adjusted the tire pressures you need to reset the warning - the button is located just above the pedals - you need to switch on ignition and press and hold the button for a few seconds - hope this helps

  37. Stick with the F, just my 2p worth. Funny to see the link you posted is the same garage where I bought my F almost 4yrs ago! Small world!! Literally just got back from a trip to LA yesterday. Saw these a lot over there, but I get the appeal, just think that would wear off pretty quickly when your shelling out the same on fuel for a barge like driving experience. Each to their own obviously, but think you’d regret parting with your F. Almost everyone does it would seem, one guy in the US has come back 3/4 times! Lol. Cheers. Pete

  41. Great freeze of 81! How well I recall. I got caught in Alton, Hants, having driven my Citroen Dyane there to deliver a hi-fi amp -Quad 405 -(stuck avidly behind a coach 'getting his wind'....). HEAVY snow and freeze overnight; on the way home to Bristol, the M4 was mainly one wavering lane through frozen snow, passing abandoned Saabs and Porsches etc.. on the way. Thin tyres, air-cooled 602cc engine.....no problem!. (Pic; I didn't ALWAYS deiver giant cinema horns!) Later, I used my Citroen DS Safari on high suspension to deliver goods over the frozen ruts that kept everyone else marooned! How DID I drive a Ford Galaxie in Canada in December snow I wonder now, in 92? At least the roads are wide and thinly populated there, not our jammed roads.

  42. I don't know how you can achieve those figures, please share. My average since owning my NX is 33.1, which roughly is 35 in summer and 31 in winter. My last fill up I managed just 27 due to the cold snap. The best I have ever achieved from a tankful is 39.7, With a good run getting near to 40. I think it must be due to the roads you drive, or flat countryside with few hills on A and B roads. I do a regular motorway journey of 150 miles and at a constant 70mph I get no better than 38. I admit I do a lot of very short journeys with the car barely warming up, so I know I am below national average. Some tips would be good. :)

  45. All things considered with lexus, the tensioner does seem like the likely cause, And as someone with history working with (much simpler) engines, I had no problems agreeing with the lexus tech that this is a likely symptom, however I just hate the idea of chasing a problem around this engine not knowing whether it will be a problem again, also if bank 1 has this issue.. how long before bank 2 shows the same issue! I spoke to Lee at srd this morning, And I realised that love this car and realistically the only thing I would chop it in for realistically is a gsf... and i think thay might give the mrs a brain aneurysm, so I think theres only one way forward really, engine swap it is for me! So I'm on the lookout for an engine, any help from you guys on this front would be much appreciated.... I've seen the ads for the scrapped vehicles and talked to them, the 2010 already has it's engine sold and the 2008 is certainly expensive so I've got to keep my mind open and hope that something will come up, If anyone knows of any engines collecting dust somewhere im happy to give it a loving home where it will be pampered!! Honestly thanks for all your help so far and hopefully in advance for the help going forward Andy

  47. I certainly did not, however I also didn't get a salesman claiming he would phone me back about an RCF then not bothering!!! I'm not annoyed about it at all, dont feel like I need to rant about LEXUS EDINBURGH!!!!! not phoning me back at all. Not that I'm annoyed, just in case you were wondering. What does Lexus coffee taste like? Is it a premium coffee that never breaks down but most people don't appreciate it non the less. P.s. I'm not annoyed at all

  49. Hey Guys, I'm not sure if you are still wondering about this - it seems like the post is pretty old. But, in case someone else runs across the question, I thought I would Chime in. I've been in the car business for 20 years, and always try to help when it comes to finding those hard-to-find parts for people that return their leases. Headphones are one of those things that people just dont think about until they have to return their leased car. Then, all-of-a-sudden it becomes an added lease return expense. it's a bit frustrating. While good dealerships will accept factory replacement parts (like IR headphones from china), many dealers want to be able to re-sell their investment with the original parts in the car. ebay is a good place to find parts, but you can also search on Google for reputable companies. I use http://www.froogle.com to find lots of parts sold by reputable companies with good return policies. For Lexus headphones and GPS discs, I have been fairly successful with http://www.audiovideo2go.com/categories/Automotive-Headphones/Lexus/ Just my two cents... http://leasexpert.wordpress.com/

  50. A little sad answering my own post but I managed to get a pair of these, £11.12 each plus P&P. I added the two AAA batteries to each headphone and they just worked flawlessly. I didn't realise how cheap they would be. :) But how long they last well that's a different matter.
